Did You Know: 67 People (And Counting) Have Been Killed By Cops Since Colin Kaepernick Began Anthem Protest

67 People Have Been Killed By Cops Since Kaepernick’s Protest How many people exactly have been murdered by police since NFL star Colin Kaepernick decided to protest the National Anthem? A lot more than people are willing to discuss reports HuffPo : At least 15 black people have died during encounters with the police since San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick began protesting police violence by kneeling before NFL games, based on numbers compiled by The Guardian . Kaepernick’s decision to sit or take a knee during the national anthem first drew attention after his team’s Aug. 26 preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, when he told NFL.com that he was “not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.” Since then, Kaepernick’s continued protest has drawn considerable criticism from politicians, police unions, pundits, other professional athletes and many on social media who have opposed both his message and his method of conveying it. But the problem Kaepernick wants to highlight has continued. And on Monday, it was back in the news again, after police in Tulsa, Oklahoma, released multiple videos that showed the fatal shooting of Terence Crutcher. Overall, police have killed at least 67 people since Kaepernick’s protest began, according to The Guardian’s database. Roughly 22 percent of the victims have been black. Police have killed more than 780 people so far in 2016, according to The Guardian’s numbers. At least 193 of those people ― or about 25 percent ― were black. Of the 15 black people killed since Kaepernick’s demonstration started, at least 11 were shot, according to The Washington Post’s tracker of fatal police shootings. The white officer who shot Crutcher, Betty Shelby, was placed on paid administrative leave while the department investigates the case ― another issue Kaepernick highlighted when he spoke out against police killings. Get Ya Folks: Hillary Clinton Talks “Directly To White People” Following Terence Crutcher’s Murder

Hillary Clinton Tells White People That They Need To Help Fight Racial Injustice Despite there not being much national television coverage surrounding the unscrupulous killing of Terence Crutcher, The Steve Harvey Morning show wasn’t about to let the subject go ignored. This morning they spoke to Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton about the newest social media hashtag and she took time to specifically address her fellow anglo-saxons. Via HuffingtonPost On Tuesday’s episode of “The Steve Harvey Morning Show,” the former secretary of state and current Democratic presidential nominee said she wanted to speak “directly to white people” and let them know that “this is not who we are.” “How many times do we have to see this in our country?” Clinton said. “In Tulsa, an unarmed man with his hands in the air. This is just unbearable. And it needs to be intolerable.” “Maybe I can, by speaking directly to white people, say, look, this is not who we are,” she continued. “We have got to do everything possible to improve policing, to go right at implicit bias.” Hillz is making a concerted effort to gain the trust of black folks by speaking to the social justice issue that many of us are concerned about, but is it too little, too late? The Kaepernick Effect: Broncos Baller Brandon Marshall Sits Out The National Anthem During Season Kickoff Game

Broncos’ Brandon Marshall Takes A Knee For National Anthem Colin Kaeperinick’s influence is resonating throughout the sports world. After Eric Reid and Jeremy Lane joined Kaepernick on one knee during the national anthem…one of Kaep’s former classmates is kneeling in support of the movement as well. Via NFL.com : Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall took a knee during the singing of the national anthem prior to the start of Thursday’s season opener against the Carolina Panthers. Marshall is the third player to not stand during the national anthem since San Francisco 49ers quarterback revealed last month that he was not standing during the anthem to protest social injustice against African-Americans and other minorities in the United States. Niners teammate Eric Reid joined Kaepernick in not standing during the team’s preseason finale and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane sat on the bench last week against the Oakland Raiders. Marshall and Kaepernick were college teammates at Nevada. NFL Network’s James Palmer obtained this statement from the Broncos: “While we encourage members of our organization to stand during the National Anthem, we understand and respect it being a personal decision.” Marshall’s action comes a day after Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin and defensive end Cliff Avril told reporters they were considering not standing during the national anthem before Sunday’s game against the Dolphins. Baldwin tweeted Thursday that the team will take part in a pregame demonstration Sunday. “To express a desire to bring people together, our team will honor the county and flag in a pregame demonstration of unity,” Baldwin posted. More and more people are taking a stand through sitting the anthem out. Do you think this protest is finally going to get these issues the attention they deserve?? Instagram/YouTube

For Discussion: Bill Cosby Claims “Racial Bias” Is Significantly Affecting His Rape Trial

Bill Cosby’s Legal Team Believes “Racial Bias” Is Against Him In Rape Trial Bill Cosby is about to have his day to face a jury of his peers and let his attorney’s tell it, race is going to play a significant role in whether or not the comedian spends his last days as a free man… Via NBCNews As embattled comedy legend Bill Cosby enters the legal fight of his life, his attorneys have begun to invoke the concept of “racial bias” playing a role in the case being made against him. The 79-year-old actor is scheduled to go on trial next summer for drugging and molesting Andrea Constand, then an employee of his alma mater Temple University, in his home in 2004. Cosby has denied any wrongdoing in the case — which he had previously settled in 2006 — and has maintained that their encounter was consensual. On Tuesday, following a hearing where prosecutors sought to make testimony of 13 other Cosby accusers admissible, his attorneys went on offense — calling out attorney Gloria Allred, who represents several of his alleged victims, for her role in the case. “The time has come to shine a spotlight on the trampling of Mr. Cosby’s civil rights,” Cosby’s lawyers wrote in a statement. “Her campaign against Mr. Cosby builds on racial bias and prejudice that can pollute the court of public opinion.” Allred retorts: “He complains about racial bias, but what about the African-American women whom I represent who accuse him of sexual assault or rape and who refuse to remain silent about what they say they have suffered?,” While Mr. Cosby and his legal team may smell the stench of bigotry surrounding the prosecutions narrative, it isn’t as if the former “favorite dad” of America doesn’t have black supporters. Eddie Griffin , Kanye West , Luenell and Keshia Knight-Pulliam several other celebs have spoken out publicly in support of the comedian. Then you have those like Monique Pressley , the former face of Cosby’s defense team, who recently quit her job working for Cosby for unspecified reasons. Former prosecutor and Cleveland-Marshell College of Law professor Lolita Buckner Inniss seems to think Pressley’s presence could have been extremely helpful to Cosby keeping some of that black support: “Her gender and her race matter, because Bill Cosby is being charged with sexual assault of several women. A large number of those women are white women. I think there’s a certain extent to which the idea of racial solidarity plays in here. The idea that if an intelligent, well-spoken black woman stands with Bill Cosby on this, then perhaps some of those people who accuse Bill Cosby are lying,” Lolita Buckner Inniss, a former prosecutor and professor at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University, told NPR earlier this year. Do you think the racial component of this case is a hinderance or help to Bill Cosby? Image via WENN Continue reading

Wait, What? Muhammad Ali’s Ex Wife Says Colin Kaepernick Should Apologize For National Anthem Protest — And Call Her For Suggestions

Khalilah Ali Offers To Help Colin Kaepernick Muhammad’s second wife — the one who still harbors quite a bit of bitterness over his constant cheating 50 years later — is speaking out on Colin Kaepernick’s decision to use his position as a star athlete to make a statement for the treatment of African Americans in the US. She was with Muhammad Ali when he Surprisingly, she isn’t a fan. Via TMZsports : Muhammad Ali’s ex-wife says Colin Kaepernick needs to apologize for his National Anthem protest … saying it’s “not heroic” and he should “get off his high horse.” TMZ Sports spoke with Khalilah Camacho Ali — who was married to the boxer from 1967 to 1976 — and says she was his adviser for his biggest protest … refusing to fight in the Vietnam war. “What he’s doing right now is not heroic,” Khalilah says … “I would love to meet with him or talk to him on the phone to help share his message in a better way.” “I helped Muhammad decide whether he was going to the army or going to jail. He listened to my every word. You see the impact that had on our nation? Colin could absolutely have the same impact if he made the right decisions to really make a difference.” Apparently, Khlalilah feels like this makes her an expert on protests, and Colin needs to ring her up to learn a thing or two about how to do this right. “The first thing I would do is ask him about his stance on humanity … what exactly is he trying to improve and how is he going to make that happen? Next, I’d have him make a retraction for his actions against the American flag. He needs to apologize.” “I will help him meet the groups that will fight with him, donate to charities of all people — not just minorities — because we cannot single anyone out. If he wants isolation to end, he needs to prove that he cares about all people, and not just his people.” “If he is willing to get off his high horse and humble himself, we could do a lot of good together.” Ummm…okay lady. Muhammad Ali said he wouldn’t fight for a nation that treated BLACK PEOPLE the way it did…but nowadays, it’s not just about Black people, but all people? We respect our elders, but maybe Ms. Ali should sit this one out. Colin seems to have his own message and how he chooses to deliver it under control… Continue reading

Problematic? Kanye West Only Wants “Multiracial” Women Audition To Model For Yeezy Season 4

Kanye West’s “Season 4” Casting Call Asks For “Multiracial” Women Only Here we thought that Labor Day weekend was gonna be filled with barbecue , momma’s potato salad, a few drinks, family and friends. Nope. Kanye West just hit “tweet” on this doozy of a casting call and we can already tell that all hell 140-character hell is about to break loose… pic.twitter.com/o8sB124An3 — KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) September 3, 2016 Historically, casting calls are notoriously biased. The person doing the casting is looking for something very specific and that often leaves a lot of people (see, black or darker skinned) with no real shot to land the gig. Hell, sometimes the casting call will forego the coded language and get right down to the nitty-gritty, like Straight Outta Compton . Being that many believe Mr. West’s perceived history with colorism is sordid at best, the cynicism surrounding his casting requirements is Wiz Khalifa high… I LOVE KANYE BUT THIS IS SO PROBLEMATIC LIKE WTF — ️️️️ (@caringarianas) September 3, 2016 Then there are others who think Kanye is just trying to gently weed out white girls without hurting their feelings… i'm hoping what kanye saying with the “we only want multiracial women” part is just a nice way of him saying no white chicks — Ahmed/Zaywop Stan (@big_business_) September 3, 2016 It should be noted that there were multiple darker-skinned models in Kanye’s past fashion shows who may not have been “multiracial”. Guess we’ll all just have to wait and see what shakes, but one thing’s for certain, two is for sure, Twitter is gonna be an ugly place for Kim Kardashian’s husband over the next 48 hours or so. What do you think of Kanye’s casting call? Does he deserve the benefit of the doubt in regards to his “multiracial” intentions? #BlackHairMatters: The Only African-American Cheerleader At Texas High School Banned From Game Over Braids

Only Black Varsity Cheerleader At Texas High School Banned For Wearing Braids It’s always something with “they”. One day, “they” invented a long-standing staple in black culture, the next, “they” hate on us for expressing that very same culture. SMFH. Via ABC13 A Baytown teen’s mother says her daughter is the victim of racial discrimination by her high school cheer coach. Fifteen-year-old Kemirah Jn-Marie is a flyer on the Ross S. Sterling High School varsity cheer squad. “The coach makes it hard to be on varsity,” she said, telling Eyewitness News the coach has been on her repeatedly about her hair. “She makes me feel bad about myself,” said Jn-Marie. This year, she says, she had special braids done in the hope of meeting cheer requirements. Her mother says things really got out of hand last week when the coach told Kemirah she wouldn’t be able to perform at Saturday’s football game if she showed up as she did at school – with her hair in braids. “I said, ‘If that’s the case, put it in writing. Just put it in writing,’” said Mayra Jn-Marie. She says the school district refused. What is in writing are these Sterling High cheer guidelines: Hair must be “pulled back in a secure pony tail” and hair “must not distract from the cheer environment.” The policy also states that an administrator will determine if a hair style is disruptive.
