Oscar-Winning Directors The Coen Brothers Say They See No Need For Diversity In Their Movies – Compare Black People To Martians And Dogs??

Coen Brothers Downplay Diversity In Their Filmmaking We’ve already heard what George Clooney had to say about the #OscarsSoWhite controversy…but the director duo that has brought the actor many of his most successful roles seems to have a different outlook. When one writer asked the directors of films like “Oh Brother Where Art Thou?” and “No Country For Old Men” why it was their own films never seemed to feature Black faces…the duo basically scoffed at the question. Via TheDailyBeast : I asked the Coens to respond to criticisms that there aren’t more minority characters in the film. In other words, why is #HailCaesarSoWhite? “Why would there be?” countered Joel Coen. “I don’t understand the question. No—I understand that you’re asking the question, I don’t understand where the question comes from. “Not why people want more diversity—why they would single out a particular movie and say, ‘Why aren’t there black or Chinese or Martians in this movie? What’s going on?’ That’s the question I don’t understand. The person who asks that question has to come in the room and explain it to me.” As filmmakers, is it important or not important to consciously factor in concerns like diversity, I asked. “Not in the least!” Ethan answered. “It’s important to tell the story you’re telling in the right way, which might involve black people or people of whatever heritage or ethnicity—or it might not.” The Cohens very very rarely feature people of color in their films at all — much less in prominent roles. However they think singling out individual films “It’s an absolute, absurd misunderstanding of how things get made to single out any particular story and say, ‘Why aren’t there this, that, or the other thing?’” added Joel. “It’s a fundamental misunderstanding of how stories are written. So you have to start there and say, ‘You don’t know what you’re talking about.’” He continued: “You don’t sit down and write a story and say, ‘I’m going to write a story that involves four black people, three Jews, and a dog,’—right? That’s not how stories get written. If you don’t understand that, you don’t understand anything about how stories get written and you don’t realize that the question you’re asking is idiotic. “It’s not an illegitimate thing to say there should be more diversity in an industry,” concluded Joel. “But that’s not what that question is about. That question is about something else.” These two clearly don’t see diversity as their responsibility or concern…. WENN

Stacey Dash Orders Black Twitter To Apologize For Roasting Her, Backpedals On Banning Black History Month

Stacey Dash Wants Twitter To Apologize, Explains Comments On Black History Month Stacey Dash is even more delusional than most of us originally thought, because she seems to think that she is owed and may possibly receive an apology from the army of Twitter users that came for her whitewashed neck last week after her comments bashing BET , The Image Awards, and dismissing Black History Month as racist. Citing a 60-minutes interview Morgan Freeman gave years and years ago, Stacey asked when exactly she was going to receive an in-pouring of “I’m Sorrys,” after people realize that she’s only agreeing with what the actor said: When I spoke out on Fox News and on my blog about the need to get rid of BET and Black History Month, all the same usual Twitter haters came out of the woodwork to troll me and say all sorts of disgusting things about me. The same trolls who attacked me when I endorsed Mitt Romney came out and called me all sorts of things, many of which I can’t even say here. Well, if you’re going to call me ignorant, stupid, and an Uncle Tom, you need to be intellectually honest and also call out Morgan Freeman. Like I said… so when do the Twitter trolls apologize to me? Well, while she waits on that apology that will never arrive, she also decided to “clarify” what she meant when she said she wanted to get rid of Black History Month. In her newly posted blog , Stacey insists that Black people are holding themselves back by accepting a set aside month to celebrate our contributions to US History: It’s hard to cut through the hysterical reactions to my comments the other day about Black History Month. I feel like many of your reactions — saying that I’ve sold out to white people, that I’m “coonin’” etc — show you aren’t hearing me. I’m not saying we as black people deserve LESS respect. I’m saying we deserve MORE. Black History should be apart of social studies and history curriculum EVERYDAY OF EVERY MONTH OF EVERY YEAR. not just 28 days out of 365!!!! Black history IS American history. We are not a category or a special interest group. We are Americans. I am an American and I cannot be categorized or limited by anyone else’s definition of me. I can tell by the hysterical reactions that it’s not WHITE PEOPLE who are trying to keep black Americans in their place. It’s BLACK people. We need to stop doing this to ourselves, to our brothers and sisters. We need to swipe the breadcrumbs on the floor and eat of the wonderful, rich food this nation offers. Well now that she (kind of) cleared that up, what do you think? Does Stacey have a point or does she still need to have a whole stadium of seats?? WENN

‘I Am A Gay Man, I Am A Gay Man, I Am A Gay Man’ Jussie Smollet Covers ‘Out’ Magazine

For your viewing pleasure… Jussie Smollett Covers ‘Out’ Jussie Smollett is a proud gay man and he’s speaking candidly on his sexuality. The “Empire” star recently sat down with “Out” magazine to speak on his journey into stardom and accolades since landing the role of Jamal. He also made a point to confirm ( once again ) that he’s indeed gay—who could possibly fall in love with a woman. He tells OUT: “I am a gay man with an extremely open heart,” he says, easy and assured until he’s asked to elaborate on what that means to him. “God, I’ve never had to talk about this, so I’m trying to find the words. If I had to label myself, I would label myself as a gay man. With that said, I believe that love is the only thing that matters, and I would hope that anybody would leave themselves open — not to gender, but to love. I would hope that people would not close themselves off from what could be if, lo and behold, you meet somebody that just sweeps you off your feet, and you just can’t do anything about it. If we truly believe that we are born this way, then why do we try to stifle the way we were born? If I fall in love down the road with a woman, I’m going to love that woman.” On his words being misconstrued: “I’m sure that those words will be misconstrued,” he says, because if there’s one thing he’s learned this year, it’s how easily that can happen. “But this is a conversation that deserves to be had, because we don’t all understand each other. You’re not going to tell me that loving someone is wrong. That does not mean that heterosexuality is not very real. It does not mean that bisexuality is not very real. It does not mean that homosexuality is not very real. They are all very real. But what I’m saying is, I am a gay man. I am a gay man. I am a gay man. I don’t know how many times I have to say that.” Good for him. What do YOU think about Jussie coming (back) out in “Out”??? Hit the flip for more photos. Michael Muller

#Quarterblack: Jets Baller Brandon Marshall Says Cam Newton Hate Isn’t About Race

Brandon Marshall Doesn’t Think Race Is A Factor In Public’s Dislike Of Cam Newton As the 50th Super Bowl fast approaches there will be continued talk about lightning rod “quarterblack” Cam Newton and how his flamboyant personality and bravado rub (white) people the wrong way. Much of the talk surrounds the color of Cam’s skin, but New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall doesn’t seem to think race is a real issue. According to his comments on the Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore , he thinks it’s about something else… “It’s a generational thing and I just stick to that,” Marshall said on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore. “I don’t think it’s racial. I just think that there’s a box that we put our quarterbacks in and we say, ‘This is how you’re supposed to be. This is how Peyton Manning did it, this is how Joe Montana did it, Tom Brady, so you do it the same way.’” Not sure how Brandon can ignore the racial component of the thing, but he seems to admire Cam for using his voice: “I commend him because back in the day our athletes and entertainers used to be civil rights leaders. They used to speak up,” Marshall said. “But now, the business has taken over. You have these brands like Under Armour, Nike and Beats by Dre and the yogurt thing (Dannon) that he endorsed. They come in, they tell you, ‘you know what, just be a good boy, shut your mouth and collect your check.’” “I am one of those guys that, if I have an opinion I’m going to to say it. I guess that’s why I’m on my fourth team,” Marshall added, with a smile. Another topic often broached when talking about why Cam Newton isn’t liked is his infamous dab touchdown dance. Brandon seems to have a hard time making up his mind about that part… “I don’t want my quarterback dancing,” Marshall said. “I’m from the old school…I want my quarterbacks to get back in the huddle and lead us.” But then he turned right back around and complimented Newton. “But what we have to understand is this is the new generation. This is what they’re doing next. They’re disruptive, they’re disrespectful, they don’t give a damn about any one, and I kind of like it,” Marshall said. “Go back to when he was a rookie and he said, ‘I want to be an icon.’ You want to be an icon, you can’t stay in the box, you have to get out of the box, you have to be disruptive.” Based on these responses, we’re not sure if Brandon really rocks with Cam or not, but we can definitely say that race plays at least SOME factor in why people aren’t quick in embrace Cam. That’s why he’ll continue to #DabOnThemFolks. Image via AP

Girl, Bye: Charlotte Rampling Takes Back ‘Racist To Whites’ Oscar Comments After Getting Dragged To Hell

Charlotte Rampling Takes Back Racist To Whites Oscar Comments We reported that decrepit Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling was not here for the #OscarSoWhite outrage. The elderly actress recently blasted the controversy over claims of lack of diversity in Hollywood as a racist plot against white folks. What?! According to The Guardian the actress says that the controversy is discriminatory against Caucasians. Asked for her take on the current furore over all-white lists of nominees on French Radio network Europe 1 on Friday morning, the British actor did not mince her words. “It is racist to whites,” she said. “One can never really know, but perhaps the black actors did not deserve to make the final list,” added Rampling. Asked if the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences should introduce quotas, a proposal which no current advocate of increased diversity has mooted, she responded: “Why classify people? These days everyone is more or less accepted … People will always say: ‘Him, he’s less handsome’; ‘Him, he’s too black’; ‘He is too white’ … someone will always be saying ‘You are too’ [this or that] … But do we have to take from this that there should be lots of minorities everywhere?” Now Charlotte wants to backtrack after getting dragged to hell for her comments. The ain’t isht actress made this statement to CBS News : “I regret that my comments could have been misinterpreted this week in my interview with Europe 1 Radio,” said Rampling, who is nominated for a Best Acting award for the film “45 Years.” “I simply meant to say that in an ideal world every performance will be given equal opportunities for consideration. I am very honored to be included in this year’s wonderful group of nominated actors and actresses.” “Diversity in our industry is an important issue that needs to be addressed,” she continued. “I am highly encouraged by the changes announced today by the Academy to diversify its membership.” Girl, bye! Jada Pinkett Smith On Oscar Boycott: ‘Begging Diminishes Our Dignity And Power’ [Video]

Jada Pinkett Smith Boycott Oscars Video You won’t be finding Jada Pinkett Smith on the Oscars red carpet or at home watching the ceremony either. After questioning whether or not people of color should boycott the show over the weekend, Jada doubled down on her statements with a new Facebook video detailing why it’s time for black folks “to do us, differently.” Jada says we’re too powerful and too dignified to be begging the academy for acknowledgement and that it’s time to pool our resources together and look at ourselves the way we’re asking mainstream to look at us. Do you agree with Jada’s comments? Is it time to stop laughing and actually pay attention to black-centric award shows like BET, NAACP, etc or should we continue fighting for seats at mainstream’s table?

Black Woman Says She Was Chased By 6 KKK Members & Chicago Police Did Nothing! [Video]

The KKK is really out here and police don’t care! 6 Racist KKK Members Chase Black Woman From Bus Stop, She Vents On Facebook Chicago is still an extremely segregated city and one black girl who ventured off into a different part of the city learned why, the hard way: Racism still exists! The victim says she was just trying to wait for the bus after a bowling outing, not know she was in a racist neighborhood. The bus stop sat in front of a bar with white men who openly plotted to “kill and rape her” according to a witness. The men began to chase her down the street until she found safety in an uber driver’s vehicle. How scary, we’re happy things didn’t end worse for her. Facebook

May The Oppression Be With You: George Lucas Says He Sold Star Wars To “White Slavers”

George Lucas Says ‘Star Wars’ Was Sold To “White Slavers” Even after clocking over $1 billion at the box office worldwide in just a few days, OG Star Wars creator George Lucas ain’t feelin’ the new version of his baby. In fact, Lucas feels like the new producers just bit his whole style from the original flick and didn’t do enough to make “The Force Awakens” it’s own entity. Via NYDailyNews “They wanted to do a retro movie,” Lucas said in an interview with Charlie Rose. “I don’t like that.” “Every movie, I work very hard to make them different,” he continued. “I make them completely different, with different planets and different spaceships, to make it new.” He also called the first six movies his “kids,” saying he “sold them to white slavers that take these things and…,” before halting the remark and laughing it off, presumably thinking better of it. Now before you go and weep for Lucas and his tragically bastardized creativity, be aware that he sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012 for, wait for it…$4 BILLION! Boo-the-f***-hoo, George Lucas. Boo f***ing hoo. Far as the “slavers” comment, there was prolly a MUCH better choice of words considering he has a black wife and the ugly controversy surrounding black “storm trooper” John Boyega.
