Yale Chapter Of Frat With Troubled Past Accused Of “White Girls” Only Party Anybody surprised to see SAE back in the headline s again? Via NY Post reports : A Yale fraternity instituted a “white girls only” policy at a weekend rager, a student at the Ivy League university is charging on social media. “I’d just like to take a moment to give a shoutout to the member of Yale’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter who turned away a group of girls from their party last night, explaining that admittance was on a ‘White Girls Only’ basis,” sophomore Neema Githere posted to Facebook on Saturday. The post prompted several comments from other students, alleging that the same Yale fraternity had racially discriminated against them as well. Yale SAE members, including chapter president Grant Mueller, denied the accusations. “Obviously I was shocked and flabbergasted [at the idea] that anyone in SAE would even have these words come from their mouths,” Mueller told the Yale Daily News. “It’s just kind of upsetting for me because we try to be so incredibly accepting and take pride in our diversity.” Mueller said he reached out to two Yale deans, and plans to address the allegations during a forum at the Afro-American Cultural Center on Monday. Blacks And Hispanics Are Less Likely To Be Approved For A Mortgage Do you think minorities are less likely to be approved for a mortgage or loans from a bank? According to The New York Times this discriminatory act is nothing new most communities… In 2014, Hudson City Savings Bank, New Jersey’s largest savings bank approved 1,886 mortgages in the market that includes New Jersey and sections of New York and Connecticut, federal mortgage data show. Only 25 of those loans went to black borrowers. Hudson, while denying wrongdoing, agreed last month to pay nearly $33 million to settle a lawsuit filed by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Justice Department. Federal officials said it was the largest settlement in the history of both departments for redlining, the practice in which banks choke off lending to minority communities. Banks normally try to avoid borrowers who seem likely to default on their loans, but some stepped over the line, officials say, excluding entire communities and the creditworthy people who live in them. In 2014, black people held 5.2 percent of the nation’s home loans, compared with 8.7 percent in 2006, according to the Federal Reserve Bank. Hispanics have struggled to regain lost ground as well, accounting for 7.9 percent of home loans in 2014, compared with 11.7 percent in 2006. Federal and state officials said it was impossible to determine how widespread discriminatory lending had become. They believe a vast majority of banks are operating legally, but recent lawsuits have revealed striking disparities. Discuss.

Rolex Store Employee Told 911 She Was “Uncomfortable” Letting John Henson In To Buy A Watch [Listen]

Employees Tell Cops They Were Uncomfortable Letting Henson Into Rolex Store John Henson detailed his experience getting racially profiled last week after employees at a Milwaukee Rolex wouldn’t let him in the store because he is Black. However, the store claims it was all a big unfortunate misunderstanding, stemming from an unrelated situation that occurred a few days before Henson arrived to buy his first Rolex watch. Apparently the car that Henson arrived in looked similar to one that had “cased” the store over the weekend. And John made the “mistake” of calling the store before arrival to double check what their hours were before he made his purchase. Via Deadspin : The audio starts with a call from Friday, Oct. 16, with a woman saying the store had gotten “a couple suspicious phone calls” and would like an officer to come and sit in front of the store until it closes. The dispatcher asked the woman to describe the calls and she said ,“They’re just asking about what time we’re gonna close and they just didn’t sound like they were legitimate customers.” The audio picks up again on Monday, Oct. 19, the day that Henson said he was profiled. In this call, the woman tells dispatch, “We had some suspects Friday. They had stolen plates on their cars. The officer told us if they came back we were supposed to call again. They’re at our front door now, and we’re not letting them in.” Take a listen to the call. Do you hear racism…or reasonable caution? Hmmm…it sounds like the shop worker would have been nervous about just about any Black man showing up to her place of employment after whatever happened Friday. SMH. Instagram

Sheriff Denies Racism In Spring Valley Arrest Because Cop Dates Black Woman The video of a female student at Spring Valley High School being physically accosted by police officer Ben Fields has lit a white hot flame in the social conscious of black folks over the past 24 hours. While many of the reactions have obviously been centered around race, Officer Fields’ superiors don’t seem to think that race played any factor whatsoever in the incident… Via ABCNews A South Carolina sheriff says he doesn’t think that race played a role in his officer’s arrest of a female high school student. Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said Tuesday that the deputy that made the arrest, Ben Fields, has been dating an African-American woman for “quite some time.” He says that if that had any bearing on the arrest, it would have been in a positive way, not a negative one. “He couldn’t POSSIBLY be a racist! He’s having sex with a black woman!” White people say the stupidest s#!t when it comes time to defend each other against claims of racism. Spring Valley High Classmates Dismiss Claims That Black Teen Was Disruptive Spring Valley High School officials and local deputies in South Carolina are investigating after a video taken at the high school shows a violent attack between a Black female student and the school’s resource officer. The Sheriff’s office claimed the Black student was being “disruptive” in class but many of her peers have come out the dismiss the claims. Student Aaron Johnson says otherwise: South Carolina cop Officer Ben Fields is already being sued in federal court for targeting African American student according to Raw Story : The suit, which is scheduled to go to trial in January, stated that Fields “recklessly targets African-American students with allegations of gang membership and criminal gang activity” and wrongfully accused a former Spring Valley High School student, Ashton James Reese, of being involved in a “huge gang fight” at a Walmart parking lot near the school in January 2013. Fields did not respond to the original incident, the suit stated, but took over the investigation from a fellow deputy. He is accused of falsely describing Reese as a gang member without even speaking to him about the incident, which reportedly involved three men not identified as Spring Valley students attacking another man. Fields described the incident as an attempt to unify three gangs. However, neither Fields nor the school’s assistant principal, April Shell, were able to provide written statements implicating Reese in connection with the incident during a pair of subsequent hearings. Fields allegedly insisted that he would only review his files if Reese were to face criminal charges. Something in the water doesn’t smell clean with this story! Why would this grown man feel the need to attack and assault this female teenager while she sat peacefully at her desk? Hit the flip for more next..

The Weeknd Pleads No Contest To Battery Of Las Vegas Police Officer Don’t let the high-pitched falsetto fool you, Abel is ’bout that action, boss. Word on PageSix is that Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd entered a no contest plea last week in front of a Las Vegas judge for misdemeanor batter of a police officer. The report states that the judge agreed to drop the charge if Abel could keep his nose clean (no pun intended) and complete 50 hours of community service. The judge also demanded that Mr. Friday-Saturday-Sunday attend “impulse counseling”, an alcohol evaluation, and pay $1,000 to the injured officers fund. There is nothing about this guy that suggests he would be catching fade with a police officer. Maybe Canadians aren’t as nice a people as we think they are… Image via YouTube

Spring Valley Student Brutally Assaulted By White School Resource Officer Spring Valley High School officials and local deputies are investigating after a video supposedly taken at the high school shows a confrontation between a Black female student and the school’s resource officer . Via Live 5 News : School officials confirm the incident happened on Monday, but stopped short of releasing further details. According to Sheriff Leon Lott, the school resource officer was acting in response to a student who was refusing to leave class. “The student was told she was under arrest for disturbing school and given instructions which she again refused,” Lott said. “The video then shows the student resisting and being arrested by the SRO.” The video shows the officer approaching the girl sitting at a desk in a classroom. The officer grabs the girl’s arm while putting his own arm around the student’s neck. A struggle ensues, and the girl falls on the floor before being dragged away and out of the view of the camera. Parents of students at Spring Valley High School are already reacting to the video. A group calling themselves the Richland Two Black Parents Association called the video “egregious” and “unacceptable.” “Parents are heartbroken as this is just another example of the intolerance that continues to be of issue in Richland School District Two particularly with families and children of color,” the statement said. “As we have stated in the past, we stand ready to work in collaboration to address these horrible acts of violence and inequities among our children”. Obama Backs Black Lives Matter President Obama spoke out in defense of the Black Lives Matter movement on Thursday, pointing out that those voicing concerns over the treatment of Black people at the hands of police officers have legitimate concerns and stressing that it’s unfair to paint activists in the movement as having anti-police sentiments. Via HuffPost : “We as a society, particularly given our history, have to take this seriously,” Obama said of the fact that African-Americans are treated unfairly by the criminal justice system. “The African-American community is not just making this up, and it’s not just something being politicized. It’s real, and there’s a history there.” “We as a society, if we are not investing in opportunity for poor kids, and then we expect just the police and prosecutors to keep them out of sight and out of mind, that’s a failed strategy. That’s a failure on our part as a whole,” Obama said. “If kids in the inner city are not getting treatment and opportunity, that’s as much of a problem as if it’s happening to our kids, and we’ve got to think of all our children in that same way.” The president also addressed “All lives matter,” the frequent response to the “Black lives matter” refrain, saying that organizers of the Black Lives Matter movement were not suggesting black lives are more important than others, but rather that some things happen in black communities that wouldn’t be tolerated in other communities. “I think everybody understands all lives matter,” Obama said. Everybody wants strong and effective law enforcement, he said, and nobody wants to see police officers hurt who are doing their jobs fairly. At least the President gets it! Hopefully the next person to slide into office will understand too…

John Henson Gets Racially Profiled In The Worst Way By A Jewelry Shop Staff And Then Milwaukee Police He couldn’t even make it inside the store… 24 year-old Milwaukee Bucks player John Henson experienced some of the most blatantly disrespectful discrimination from a jewelry shop staff and Milwaukee police. The baller who felt compelled to share his experience with instagram followers, detailed what happened Monday afternoon when he decided to take a ride and look at a watch. Henson walked up to the shop when employees locked the door. He then rang the bell, all of the employees hid in the back of the shop and police that were parked nearby pulled up.
