Daaamn: Bus Rider Slashes Woman Who Touches Her Dog & Slices The Victim’s Girlfriend

Source: Angelo Merendino / Getty A Harmless Offense Ends In Stitches One New York bus rider went OFF when a passenger tried to put her humanely paws on her dog, so much so that the dog owner slashed the passenger with a knife. The scene went down in the Bronx on a BX2 bus at around 2:15 p.m. on Monday. Imzadi Henriquez was the unfortunate victim of the dog-owner’s blade. “I put my hand out so the dog could smell my hand,” the 22-year-old told New York Daily News.  “She got mad at that and ended up smacking my hand.” Henriquez was riding the bus with her 20-year-old girlfriend, Lenora McClelland-Fraser. Henriquez says she brushed off the hand-smacking and went looking for a seat on the bus. But the dog-owner was not done with her. “Don’t touch my dog. You can’t fu**ing touch my dog. My dog is a service dog. You can’t do that,” the woman said, according to Henriquez. Henriquez then said the woman kept muttering about how she wished Henriquez’s mom would die. This struck a nerve with Henriquez since her mom recently had a health scare. When the bus stopped, Henriquez was getting ready to step off and walk away, but she heard the woman laughing and couldn’t leave it alone. “I ended up coming back on the bus to go ahead and confront her. We ended up fighting,” Henriquez said. “I don’t know who hit who first, but I then went to grab her jacket to take a swing at her. She ended up grabbing my jacket and swung at me.” Henriquez continued, “At some point, I grabbed her hair. Then she kept hitting me and hitting me and I didn’t know she had a blade in her hand until my girlfriend told me I was bleeding.” Henriquez’s girlfriend stepped in to help and the dog-owner ended up slashing her left arm, according to police sources. During the scuffle, the bus driver stopped the bus, and the dog-owner ran out and got into a green SUV taxi to ride off. Medics took the two knife victims to Lincoln Medical Center for treatment. Henriquez received stitches to close up two long gashes across her eyebrow, and a third near her ear. “I didn’t think that petting someone’s dog would have that kind of reaction and that it would escalate to that,” she said. “I’m not okay that I made the decision to go back and confront her, I can’t take that back. But I’m that person that— yeah, I probably would have done that again, honestly.” Daaamn. The police described the slasher as Black and between the ages of 30 and 35 years old. They are still on the search for the dog owner. Continue reading

That’s Your Dog, Huh? Here’s Why Twitter Reactions To Cop K-9 Ringo Are Infuriating To Black Folks

When Ringo, a yellow Lab, was retired after working for a Mississippi police department for 9 years, his handler took him to a shelter instead of keeping him. Now the officer has been demoted. https://t.co/Ofv9JUzA7W — The New York Times (@nytimes) December 18, 2018 Black Folks Aren’t Feeling The Reactions To Story About Cop K-9 Ringo Twitter users of color are currently repulsed by the New York Times story seen above. Mississippi police officer Carl Ellis in was charged with taking care of his narcotic-sniffing K-9 partner, Ringo, upon the dog’s retirement from the Jackson Police Department. Instead, he dropped the dog at a local shelter and was caught when Ringo’s former trainer Randy Hare was contacted about adoption. As a result of this shabby behavior of a former police officer, Ellis was “demoted”. But this story isn’t about Ringo or the shady officer who dumped his bestest boy at the shelter, this is about people’s reactions to this story in contrast to how they react when police kill unarmed Black people. How could you treat your partner that way after 9 years?! Ringo is better off with someone else. What is wrong with people? — BCB (@BCFB828) December 18, 2018 We don’t typically see this kind of passionate decry of police conduct from WASPy folks when they decide to empty a clip on kid in a hoodie. …officers literally kill people and I don’t see this much backlash outside of the marginalized communities it happens to. I love dogs and want them to be cared for but I’m astounded by these responses in comparison to when officers literally kill unarmed people — eMo Bamba (@marciMcFly) December 18, 2018 We just tired. That’s all. So this is what it takes to have an officer demoted? Not wanting to take care of a dog, not planting weed in a kids car or KILLING PEOPLE — Hellraiser III: Imani on Earth (@ImaniChanel) December 18, 2018 Flip the page to see some of the cringe-y and animal-loving outrage from whites and the righteously indignant responses from people of color. Race Matters: Arizona Lawmaker Doubles Down On Saying Black People Don’t ‘Blend In’ With Society

Source: Robert Alexander / Getty David Stringer Doesn’t See A Problem With His Racist Comments An Arizona state legislator with a long history of anti-immigrant comments is facing calls to resign after he told university students that black people “don’t blend in” to society like European immigrants do. Representative David Stringer, who represents the Yavapai County area, made the comments after a public lecture at Arizona State University on November 19, during which a history professor, Donald Critchlow, discussed the 2018 midterm elections. Mr. Critchlow said that the students recorded a “private conversation” they had with Mr. Stringer after the lecture, which was  sent to local news outlets  last week. In said recordings, Mr. Stringer can be heard saying that he doesn’t think America is a “successful nation.” He follows up by saying that “diversity is relatively new” in our country, and that while European immigrants assimilated to society, “that’s not the case with African-Americans or other racial groups because they don’t melt in.” He continued on to say that this was connected to “white flight” and people moving out of Detroit and Baltimore. Stringer said that immigration was affecting states like Arizona in a “dramatic way.” He claimed that it cost more to educate children who don’t speak English as their first language, which he described as a “burden” on taxpayers. He also said that he wants to slow down immigration because it is happening too fast. The context of the conversation and how it began were not immediately clear from these recordings. Since his comments became public, there has been widespread condemnation of Stringer’s words. The Prescott City Council voted 6 to 1 to pass a resolution asking for Mr. Stringer’s resignation. David Stringer says he doesn’t intend to resign for his comments, though–because to him, it’s all true, he explained to the  Prescott Valley Town Council on Thursday evening. “I believe that everything I‘ve said, if you look at what I actually said, is defensible, that it is truthful, that it is factually accurate, that it can be supported by academic research,” the Republican said. Though calls for his resignation have been made, not a single Republican in the Arizona House has called for Stringer’s resignation.

A Puerto Rican woman named Lennys Bermudez Molina says she was trying to find a seat at a Phoenix restaurant last week when she was berated and told her race would be “wiped out.” “I hate to say the political climate is to blame for someone’s outrageous behavior, but I was visibly shaken today with this exchange. I simply asked the woman if I could sit down next to her while I waited for the car to charge,” Molina captioned a Facebook video of the incident. The video shows the spoiled mayo rudely telling Molina she wished the “whole freaking nation” was white. “You will be wiped out … trust me,” added the woman. What’s Free: Jay-Z Jukes Janky Lawsuit Arguing That Lack Of Black Arbitrators Could Create Bias Against Him

Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty Jay-Z Wins Court Battle Over Lack Of Black Arbitrators In Legal System Jay-Z is currently riding a wave of public adulation after the release of Meek Mill’s new album Championships on which the soon-to-be 49-year-old (his birth is in three days on December 4) spit some of his most poignant lyrics ever in a prolific list of on-the-nose verses over the years. One with a penchant for puns might call Jay’s verse — a victory. We say that to say, that the win that Shawn Corey Carter got in rap is nothing compared to the “historic” win that he got in court this week. According to Rolling Stone , on Wednesday Jay-Z won a battle in court that is seemingly unheard of. He argued that a lack of African-American arbitrators left him potentially exposed to unconscious racial bias. Jay is being sued by Iconix, the company that he sold is clothing brand Rocawear to back in 2007 and in that agreement, there must have been a clause about future clothing brands. Iconix argues that Roc Nations paper plane hats violate those terms. Jay countersued Iconix arguing that clause applied to Rocawear, not Roc Nation. Arbitration ensues. All parties involved are to eliminate names from a list of 12 in order to choose one. Problem is, when looking at the list Jay couldn’t readily identify a single African-American name. When he brought his concern to the American Arbitration Association who chose the original list of 12, they went through a list of 200 eligible arbitrators and guess how many African-Americans they found… Three, and one of those three had a conflict of interest and was thus rendered ineligible. Here’s what Jay’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, argued to the court: “…deprives litigants of color of a meaningful opportunity to have their claims heard by a panel of arbitrators reflecting their backgrounds and life experience,” putting Jay-Z at risk of unconscious bias by white arbitrators toward black defendants. If unresolved, the issue would “deprive black litigants like Mr. Carter and his companies of the equal protection of the laws,” he said.” Apparently, this is a thing that doesn’t happen very often where the legal system is forced to look at the disparities in the process it claims to uphold. We love this song.

Championships: Meek Mill Shares Title And Cover For Upcoming Album, Releasing November 30

Source: @JustInMyView / R1 Digital Meek Mill Releases More Info About Upcoming Album In a profile published yesterday by  Vogue ,  Meek Mill  confirmed that his new LP will be dropping on November 30. Now we’ve got even more news on the upcoming project,  including the official album title. The Philly rapper revealed both title and the cover art for the project through a tweet and an IG post he put up on Friday afternoon. “CHAMPIONSHIPS – 11/30” Meek tweeted between two trophy emojis, confirming that   Championships  to be the title for the project, along with the November 30 release date. This recent announcement comes shortly after teasing the LP’s release date as he took part in a criminal justice reform discussion at Georgetown University only a week ago. Though he confirmed the date of release in the aforementioned Vogue interview, he didn’t talk about the title of the album in the piece–but he did speak about dealing with the terms of his probation while fighting for criminal justice reform with big names like Jay-Z. “We’re taking a superhero approach, where we’re trying to do amazing things . . . things that have never been seen before,” Mill told  Vogue  about the group’s mission. “We started with a bold number, saying we’re trying to help free a million people, and we’re not saying free a million people out of prison. Half of these people are on probation or parole, or on cash bail and things like that.” Beyond just a release date and cover for the highly anticipated project, he also previewed his upcoming collaboration with Cardi B. In the video that accompanies  Vogue’s piece, Meek can be seen playing a clip from his new album, and confirms the track is with the Bronx rapper. Check out a first look at the album cover for Meek Mill’s upcoming  Championships  album below.
