Race Matters: San Francisco Hotel Manager Refuses Music Legend Because He “Doesn’t Take Black People’s Credit Cards Anymore”

Wow. Racist folks cease to amaze us these days. Via Huffington Post: A local venue owner says that last night a manager at the San Francisco Travelodge on Market Street refused to accept the credit cards of three members of the Meters Experience — because they were black. Jason Perkins, who operates the New Parish in Oakland and S.F.’s Brick and Mortar Music Hall, says the manager of the hotel at 1707 Market insisted that original Meters guitarist Leo Nocentelli leave a cash deposit, saying “he doesn’t take black people’s credit cards anymore.” “Your manager refused to accept a credit card from a famous artist, Leo Nocentelli of the Meters, saying your policy is not to accept credit cards from black people,” Perkins wrote in an e-mail to a Travelodge manager that was cc’d to SF Weekly. “This person is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and you treated him so terribly I am still shaking.” Here’s what Perkins told his friend, David Pescovitz, who’s an editor and partner at BoingBoing : I bought 4 rooms for the band and prepaid for them on debit card. After sound check, Leo and the band went to the hotel and tried to check in. The manager refused to accept 3 of 4 members credit cards for incidentals (4th member is Rich Vogel/white dude). Leo called me and (my family and I) drove to the hotel at 7:30 pm. I asked what the hell and manager pointed at 3 members and said he wouldn’t accept credit cards and “those people” need to pay cash deposit. When I asked what did he mean by “those people” — he pointed at Leo and said “black people.” I felt like I was hit in the face. It was stunning. I called the police and when they arrived, the police went through it with him and then he caught himself and said that they cannot check in any longer as he didn’t feel “safe.” He then refused to talk. Post racial America right??? Here is what a shady Travelodge representative told Examiner: Travelodge Central manager who identified himself only as Matthew W., claims hotel policy is to deny access to those whose credit cards reflect insufficient funds. When asked if Mr. Nocentelli’s credit card had been run through for a credit check, Mr. W. responded, “there are cameras in the hotel.” Mr. W. then stated he was being harassed and hung up the phone. SMH. Only color these fools should be seeing is green, how ridiculous! GTFOH Travelodge.

Republicans Scramble To Stop Gloria Allred From Releasing An Election Damaging “October Surprise” On Money Makin’ Mitt!

Uh-oh Mittens, time to protect ya neck… Via RadarOnline Republican’s Fear Gloria Allred’s “October Surprise” Attack Against Mitt Romney The Republican party is bracing itself – and preparing to fight back – against Gloria Allred’s rumored “October Surprise” on Republican presidential hopeful, Mitt Romney, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting. “We’re doing too well to risk ‘an Allred,’ she can be stopped, but it will take action on our behalf,” a GOP watchdog group blogged, asking supporters to contact Romney’s campaign headquarters, the Republican National Committee and Judicial Watch. As previously reported, Drudge Report founder and respected politico, Matt Drudge, tweeted Thursday: “Here she comes. Hearing Gloria Allred out there again, about to make a move. After all, it’s her time of the campaign. Team O at the ready!!” Allred, an outspoken supporter of President Barack Obama refused to confirm, or deny, Drudge’s prediction, telling RadarOnline.com: “I have no comment at this time about Mr. Drudge’s Tweet. I don’t discuss meetings with potential clients.” The Red Side of Life, Conservative Musings from New York says on their website, “Gloria Allred Prepares Anti-Mitt Strike. You Can STOP Her Now! (action!) Don’t underestimate Gloria Allred’s ability to inflict damage. The media will ‘eat up’ anything she feeds them and turn it into an endless scandal. Recall she took down Cain and RINO Whitman with NO EVIDENCE. We’re doing too well to risk ‘an Allred.’ She can be stopped, but it will take action on our behalf.” How desperate are Republicans to keep Allred from ruining Romney’s run? Well… The blog asks supporters to “please make these two calls. We will only get their attention if we bombard them. If you get VM, leave a message,” to the Republican National Committee and Mitt Romney’s national presidential campaign headquarters. “The critical points to get across: Warn them about the pending attack (they really may not know) – Explain the severity of damage Allred can inflict – Demand that they get their teams of lawyers to launch a pre-emptive strike against Allred, coming down on her first like a ton of bricks -This is no trifling matter. Let’s roll!” This should be VERY interesting, stay tuned to BOSSIP as more details on Allred’s shenanigans come to light. Do you think that scandal and mud-slinging should be left out of politics or do you feel like all’s fair in love and politics?? Images via WENN

George Zimmerman’s Defense Granted Access To Trayvon’s School Records!

This is prob the lowest blow Zimmerman and his crew have made to date! Showing us he’s willing to do pretty much anything, George’s racial-profiling azz is going to question Trayvon’s character by using his school and SOCIAL MEDIA records in court. SMH According to CNN : A Florida judge has ruled that Trayvon Martin’s school and social media records can be handed over to the defense team of his alleged killer, George Zimmerman, despite the efforts of the slain 17-year-old’s family to keep the information private. The decision, made Friday afternoon by Circuit Judge Debra Nelson, could prompt the Miami-area schools Martin attended to provide documents that may include his grades, attendance and any disciplinary action. But Nelson also ruled that Zimmerman’s medical records must be given to prosecutors, though she stipulated that she must first review the material to determine if anything should be removed. The decisions came just hours after Martin’s father made a plea to the court not to disclose his son’s records. “I think it’s wrong that we attack the victim,” said Tracy Martin. “Our first priority shouldn’t be to assassinate the character of the victims and make dead children seem as though they’re the perpetrator.” If you were on trial, would you try to dig up dirt too or would you be able to respect that the young man you ‘accidentally’ killed can’t defend himself? In White Folks News: Joaquin Phoenix Talks Racism Against Blacks In Hollyweird With Interview Magazine

Preach white man, preach… Joaquin Phoenix Talks Racism In Hollywood With Interview Magazines Via Interview Magazine Joaquin Phoenix has been known to be a bit of a fawking weirdo, but in his latest chat with Interview Magazine he takes on an issue that he feels strongly about, racism against African-Americans in Hollyweird. After briefly describing his childhood troubles, Joaquin asks the writer about his concern over racism in the film industry. PHOENIX: Yeah. So I don’t experience any of that. I mean, dude, how can you work in film and still see the overt racism that exists in film and not just be furious all the time? MITCHELL: You know what? As a black person, you see so much racism. Films are no different than the government, politics—it’s everywhere. It’s not exclusively film. It’s infuriating to see it in film. But my being in film changes things. PHOENIX: Yeah, but there’s all of this horrible racism that white people don’t even recognize. Did you see Jumping the Broom? MITCHELL: I’m a black person. Of course I saw it. PHOENIX: I feel like all white people have to see the film just because I’ve never seen a movie in which most of the white characters in the movie were just working. It was fucking great. It was almost comical. There was a scene during the wedding reception, and there are, like, eight white people just carrying stuff. The main white character with some dialogue was the ditzy, stupid assistant. I enjoyed it so much because you never see that. But that’s something that I think white people don’t notice. They don’t notice that the fourth character is black and that’s what it always is. It’s always happening. It’s just the assumption that, “Well, that’s just a representation of life.” Joaquin also talks about a run-in he had with some movie producers who were totally oblivious to the racist undertones of their films. PHOENIX: You know, I got this script a while ago for this thing. It was kind of like an action movie, and it definitely dealt with race in a big way. But then it didn’t. Without getting into specifics . . . MITCHELL: Did the film get made? PHOENIX: Oh, it got made. But you could not believe that this thing actually got made, because it seemed like it was from the 1940s or something. It’s got this black character in it who was literally always being saved by the white dude because he was, like, cowering in the corner. So I went in and met the director and producer and I said, “You guys realize that your only black character is this guy, and it’s like the most clichéd thing we’ve seen in movies forever.” And they were like, “What do you mean?” And I was like, “You mean you’re not even aware of it?” They didn’t even realize what they were doing. So I said, “Look, I’ll give them a read if the black character doesn’t get killed and is going to make it into the sequel. They have to put him in their sequel, the black character.” So I spoke to the writer and was like, “Dude, be a hero. When this movie comes out in the summertime, give black kids a character they can see themselves in.” But it just didn’t occur to them, and I realized what a battle it is when people aren’t even aware of what they’re doing. I know what that battle is. I’ve done battles like that before, and you lose. So I didn’t do the movie . . . They did keep the black character alive, though. He’s in the sequel-at least, that’s what I’ve heard. MITCHELL: Was it a successful movie? PHOENIX: I don’t think it’s come out yet. It’s one of those big action movies. Interesting, you don’t often hear white actors/actresses stand up and speak out against the foul industry practices that they KNOW are going on. This interview doesn’t make Joaquin Malcolm or Martin, but it is kind of refreshing to hear. How do you feel about Mr. Phoenix’s comments? Image via

Race Matters–Judge Rules The Bachelor Doesn’t HAVE To Cast Black People

Did anyone other than the two fools who filed this suit ever care about being on The Bachelor anyway? LLS We’re not surprised with the Judge’s ruling one bit. According to TMZ… A judge has THROWN OUT a lawsuit that two black men filed against “The Bachelor” … in which they claimed they were rejected from the show based on the color of their skin. In the original suit, the men pointed out that every bachelor in the show’s history has been white — and claim producers intentionally stayed away from people of color because they feared an interracial relationship would alienate the show’s “predominantly white viewership.” But a Tennessee judge has officially dismissed the case — citing the 1st Amendment (Freedom of Speech) … and explaining that the court cannot tell TV producers … or movie producers … or playwrights … how to cast a production. In fact, the judge explains that Freedom of Speech is why “The Cosby Show” could have an all-black cast … why “Jersey Shore” can cast all-Italians … and why “Shahs of Sunset” can cast all-Persians. A rep for Warner Bros. — which produces the show — tells TMZ, “We felt from the onset this case was completely without merit and we are pleased the Court has found in our favor.” Damn…looks like homeboy isn’t gonna find his one true love on reality TV anytime soon. At least it’s one less show for us to be stereotyped on! Images via facebook

Columbia, MD Residents Get Racist ‘C00n Hunt Court’ Street Name Changed After 40 Years Of Complaints!

Wouldn’t you be embarrassed every time someone asked you for your address? Seven months after starting a petition to rename their Columbia street, C00n Hunt Court, residents officially have their new street — April Wind Court. According to The Grio : “For more than 175 years, the word “c00n” represented racism and bigotry against African-American people. Whether those charged with the naming of the streets of Thunder Hill named Coon Hunt Court with cruel intention or honest mistake will remain a mystery. Today, that no longer matters,” April Wind Court resident Ambrose Lane Jr. said during Monday’s unveiling ceremony. “We come here today to right the wrong, to correct the mistake, to continue James Rouse’s vision and dream of an inclusive, neighborly, and multiracial Columbia community,” Lane Jr. said. Lane Jr., the son of a civil rights activist, was one of six residents living on the Oakland Mills street who, with the help of County Council member Calvin Ball, spurred the name change. “I am pleased to be part of creating a new chapter for this neighborhood and making it more inclusive. By working together, we were able to accomplish this efficiently and quickly,” Ball said. “I want to thank all the county departments, staff and the Planning Board — all of them made this reality.” In July, a petition to change the name was accepted by the county’s Department of Planning and Zoning. On Sept. 7, the Planning Board unanimously voted to approve the name change. Street names in Thunder Hill come from the titles of paintings by Andrew Wyeth, and although there was no “C00n Hunt,” there was a piece entitled “The Coot Hunter,” named for a type of bird found in Maine. Resident Khari Lane said watching the neighborhood rally around the change was motivating. “To finally have it done here in 2012, it’s more of a representation of how our culture is changing,” Lane said. County Executive Ken Ulman said his parents moved to Columbia to “raise a family in a community that embraced the values of diversity, acceptance and opportunity.” “The fact is, the street name “C00n Hunt Court,” does not represent those values,” Ulman said. “Your new name and your new identity in the community begins today free of negative racial connotations.” Sad it took more than 40 years to get this changed. The Side-Eye: Slavery-Lovin’ Lawmaker Jon Hubbard Defends Comments, ‘Slavery Was Cruel… But Black People Are Better Off Here Than In Africa’

Aww shucks…thanks for clearing that up for us! Jon Hubbard actually gave an interview to defend his piece of isht book and it backfired because the lawmaker just ended up sounding even more racist. Hubbard continued to say that African-Americans are lucky they were once slaves. According to TalkBusiness : “Slavery was cruel, but as a result of slavery, we have African-Americans living in this country today who are living here in situations that are probably much better to endure than if they were living in Sub-Saharan Africa. If you had the choice knowing the lifestyle of people living in Africa and knowing the lifestyle of people living in the United States, which would you choose? Pure and simple.” “But I think the end result — that they [African-Americans] did get to live in America, although the means for getting here were terrible —I think the end result was better than it would have been if they had to live in Africa themselves.” Asked if the outcome justified the institution of slavery in early America, Hubbard said it did not. “I don’t think anything justifies nearly three centuries of slavery, but the facts are the facts; we can’t take that back,” he said. “… I don’t know of any other way that black people in America could have gotten here if there hadn’t been slavery back at that time.” According to Hubbard’s version of history, absolutely no one in Africa had a boat or a ship back in the day. Wow! We never knew Africans didn’t have boats!! The saddest part about this story is the fact that Arkansas Republican leaders have not asked Hubbard to resign. Images via Facebook

The President ‘s points in the article hone in on Jobs, Health Care, Education, and Crime and Violence, to name a few. And, he makes his second term plan clear—continue to improve the economy, accessible health care, foster community sustainability via education, health care and stable families. Here are a few quotes from the cover story: On Jobs: “African Americans were hit especially hard by the recession…but over the past 30 months, businesses have created 4.5 million new jobs.” On Education: “We created the first-ever White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans.” On Health Care: “…the numbers of working poor who don’t have health care who are African American or Latino are higher than the general population…the 30 million people who are going to be able to get health care for the first time…are going to be African Americans.” What do you think? Epic Twitter Fail! Grand Ole Opry Accidentally Tweets Racist Hashtag!

We’re told this was an accident… but the Grand Ole Opry sent out a tweet to welcome Darius Rucker (you know…the former Hootie and The Blowfish singer turned Country Music Star), and they ended up looking pretty racist after you took a second look at the tweet. Somehow the Ole Opry’s PR peeps forgot there’s a 140 character rule on twitter and their #OpryNights got cut off. They basically ended up looking wrong and racial: LLS…whoops! We’d like to think this was all an accident but either way, they look like some good ole boys who love God’s country! Images via twitter/WENN
