As you may know, in 1991 Troy Davis was convicted of murdering a Georgia police officer . Twenty years after his conviction and despite growing doubts of his actual guilt, an execution date has been set for September 21. The Georgia Board of Pardons & Paroles will determine Troy Davis’ fate on September 19 during a final clemency hearing. As NAACP President & CEO Benjamin Jealous said, “Time is running out, and this is truly Troy’s last chance for life.” Now is the time for action! The NAACP (in partnership with Amnesty International) began the #TooMuchDoubt campaign last Tuesday. There are three easy ways that people can support Troy Davis. 1. Sign the petition to the Board of Pardons and pass this on to your friends and family. Each name means a more united front for justice: http://action.naacp.org/Name-Wall 2. Send a message of support to Troy as he fights for justice on what may be the final days of his life. http://action.naacp.org/LettersOfSupport 3. Make sure everyone knows about this injustice. Spread the word on Facebook and Twitter (hashtag #TooMuchDoubt) so that Troy Davis’ story can be heard. We still have a chance to save his life, but only if people are willing to speak out against injustice. The NAACP will also be on the ground mobilizing our members and allies in the state of Georgia as Troy Davis’ hearing date approaches. On September 15 they will hold a rally at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA.

As if it wasn’t bad enough that he bought a building of condos, Hov just had to go and p*** off his mostly White tenants, didn’t he? How do we know they’re predominantly White? They took their griping and rabble-rousing to the good folks at Faux News. And they, of course, went in with their “savvy and balanced reporting”. Current and former residents at a luxury building in Philadelphia partly owned by hip-hop star Jay-Z say the music mogul’s legal team has been relentlessly harassing them to leave until they give up and vacate the premises, FoxNews.com has learned. “I’m scared of Jay-Z,” says a tenant of 603 North American Street, who because of what she claims are safety fears does not want to be named. “I’ve endured endless harassment from his team of lawyers, and I can’t take it anymore. I don’t know when this drama is going to end.” The 24-unit condominium complex was purchased by SCC North American Realty, LLC, in January of 2009. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, SCC North American Realty, LLC, is partially owned by Shawn Carter, otherwise known as Jay-Z. “The whole thing has been so unsettling,” former tenant Liza Tedeschi tells FoxNews.com exclusively. “I’ve been in tears over this.” Tedeschi claims Jay-Z’s legal team has been trying to evict tenants at his four-year-old building.

Poor Thang! Barry Bonds Will Be Likely Be “Home Confined” For Christmas… Judge Orders Sentencing For December 16th

Well here’s another hit Barry Bonds … We’ll have yet another opportunity to see just how much “race matters” this December 16 when Barry Bonds heads back to federal court to be sentenced for his obstruction of justice conviction . A jury convicted Bonds in April of giving an evasive, rambling reply when asked whether he received drugs that required a syringe. Jurors couldn’t unanimously decide three other perjury charges alleging that Bonds lied to the grand jury when he denied knowingly taking human growth hormone, steroids and receiving injections from anyone but his doctor. His conviction carries a possible sentence of up to 10 years in prison, yet federal guidelines call for 15-21 months. For similar offenses in the BALCO steroids ring case, U.S. District Judge Susan Illston sentenced cyclist Tammy Thomas to six months of home confinement and track coach Trevor Graham to one year of home confinement. So far all the journalists weighing in on the matter say it would be wrong for Barry to go to jail, but there’s really no telling til the time gets here. As it is, it sucks that he likely won’t be able to play Santa for real since he’s likely to be hit with home confinement even if he doesn’t get sent to the slammer. Do you think the judge will give him a sentence to similar to what’s been given to others in his situation or is it likely he will get a harsher sentence because he’s so hated for being an arrogant black athlete? R.I.P. 9/11 Victim Ernest James’ Remains Identified After 10 Years!

This is sad. After ten years, 9/11 victim Ernest James has become the 1,629th person to have his remains identified. The New York City medical examiner’s office said on Tuesday that it had identified the remains of Ernest James, 40, a victim of the World Trade Center attack. The remains were identified “within the last few days” through DNA testing, said Ellen S. Borakove, a spokeswoman for the office. She declined to disclose more specifics about what type of remains were tested. Mr. James, an IT specialist who worked for the professional services company Marsh & McLennan, was one of nearly 300 members of the firm who died on Sept. 11, 2001. In addition, more than 60 consultants working with the firm that morning also died. A spokesman for the company said, “We continue to mourn their loss and honor their memory.” James’ loved ones say they had accepted his death the day of the attack. “When I couldn’t reach him,” said his fiancée, Monique Keyes, “I pretty much, deep inside, knew.” Asked for her memories of Mr James as the anniversary of his death approached, Miss Keyes said: “He just loved to make you laugh”. So far, Ms. Borakove said, officials in her agency’s DNA/World Trade Center Identification Group have identified 1,629 of the people who died in the attack. Before Mr. James, the most recent identification of human remains was made in May. Ms. Borakove said efforts to identify remains would continue. “As long as there is technology available, doctors have made a promise that we would continue to try to identify people,” she said. Can you imagine how it must feel to be one of Ernest’s family members? Trying to recover from his death and then having it rehashed all over TEN YEARS LATER because that’s how long it took to identify his remains. There may still be some degree of relief though, by at least having him identified and potentially being able to hold a burial. R.I.P. Race Matters: Iman Gives Vogue Italia The Ho Sit Down For Their BS Explanation Of That “Slave Earrings” Fiasco

In case you missed it, the editors at Vogue Italia lost their rabbit a** minds last week and promoted a trend they called “Slave Earrings” . They even included a description that included the sentence “If the name brings to the mind the decorative traditions of the women of color who were brought to the southern United States during the slave trade, the latest interpretation is pure freedom.” When the world reacted appropriately to the ridiculousness, Vogue.it changed the caption on the article to “Ethnic Earrings”… as if that made it better. Their editor even tried to claim that the word they used in Italian that was translated to “Slave” really did mean “ethnic style”… And if you think that’s pure bulls***, Iman agrees with you. I’m a huge fan of Franca Sozzani and Vogue Italia’s website because they have a whole section on black models. Is it controversial? Yes. The naming of it, I don’t get it. I sometimes wonder in this age of reality shows has it become part of the language-the more controversy the more [buzz] it creates. But yeah, I didn’t like it. Slave does not make it ethnic. Mind you, it’s not lost in translation-the word slave, we know what it is. They might as well have called them “n**** earrings.” For somebody like Franca Sozzani, who did that whole black issue for Vogue, somebody should have said something. After years of construction, the Martin Luther King , Jr. Memorial is finally ready for the public. Here’s a sneak peak for those not in the D.C. area. The memorial features a tall granite statue inspired by his “I Have A Dream” speech. The memorial opened today at 11 a.m., starting off a week of MLK celebrations to commemorate the new statue. The statue is also taller than the Lincoln Memorial, standing 30 feet tall. Enough talking, here are some more angles.

Philly Mayor Gets Gully And Lays Down The Law For Black Parents: Kids Need More Than A Just “Sperm Donor Or Human ATM”

Michael Nutter is speaking out on the most major problem in the black community: The painful images and graphic stories of repeated violent assaults and vandalism by mobs of black teenagers had gotten to be too much for Mayor Michael Nutter. As an elected official and a “proud black man” in the nation’s fifth-largest city, Nutter felt he had to go a step beyond ordering a law enforcement crackdown. So he channeled the spirit of another straight-talking Philadelphian: Bill Cosby. Nutter took to the pulpit at his church last weekend and gave an impassioned, old-fashioned talking-to directed at the swarms of teens who have been using social networks to arrange violent sprees downtown, injuring victims and damaging property. Moreover, he called out parents for not doing a better job raising their children. “You’ve damaged yourself, you’ve damaged another person, you’ve damaged your peers and, quite honestly, you’ve damaged your own race,” Nutter said at Mount Carmel Baptist Church. The 54-year-old mayor, married with a teenage daughter and a grown son, called out absentee fathers and neglectful parents. He did not mince words, saying they need to be more than just a “sperm donor” or a “human ATM.” “That’s part of the problem in our community,” Nutter told the congregation. “Let me speak plainer: That’s part of the problem in the black community. … We have too many men making too many babies they don’t want to take care of and then we end up dealing with your children.” It’s a version of the tough-love message Cosby and others have telegraphed for years. “I am a proud black man in this country,” Nutter said in an interview with The Associated Press. “It was a message that needed to be said. It needed to be said at this time. … People have had enough of this nonsense, black and white.” At a National Association for the Advancement of Colored People gathering in 2004, Cosby chided the black community in a speech commemorating the 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, the legal case that toppled segregated education. “These people marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education and now we’ve got these knuckleheads walking around,” Cosby said then. “I can’t even talk the way these people talk, ‘Why you ain’t,’ ‘Where you is’ … and I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk,” the entertainer said. Nutter’s words also harkened back to a 2008 Father’s Day speech by then-presidential candidate Barack Obama. “If we are honest with ourselves, we’ll admit that what too many fathers also are is missing — missing from too many lives and too many homes,” Obama told a church in Chicago. “They have abandoned their responsibilities, acting like boys instead of men.” Source

Race Matters: Spider-Man Is Black And Latino Now But… He Might Be Gay Too!

Did you know the new Spider-Man is black??? Say goodbye to Peter Parker and hello to Miles Morales… the half-Black half-Latino young man who replaces Parker following his death. Miles Morales has replaced Peter Parker as the face behind the famous webbed mask, Marvel Comics has revealed. In the latest edition of the Ultimate Fallout series he pulls back the disguise and shows his face for the first time. Fans will have to wait until the official Spider Man relaunch next month to find out how he came to be the superhero. But another surprise could be in the pipeline after his creators said that in the future they would not rule out making him gay. Peter Parker first appeared as the superhero in 1962 – having been bitten by a radioactive spider he found he developed the strength and agility of an arachnid. He was killed off by the Green Goblin in June in a controversial move by Marvel which left fans aghast. Morales was inspired to do good after learning of the death and in Ultimate Fallout issue four he dons the mask and gets into his first fight. Marvel has revealed that he does have a connection to Parker in terms of how he got his powers but he will have different abilities beyond ‘Spider Sense’ and the ability to shoot webs out of his hands. Parker’s Aunt May and Gwen Stacy will also be in the plot to help him on his way to being a superhero. ‘The theme is the same: With great power comes great responsibility,’ Spider Man writer Brian Michael Bendis told USA Today. He’s going to learn that. Then he has to figure out what that means. ‘He’s younger than Peter Parker, he’s coming from a completely different background, a completely different world view. ‘It’s Peter Parker’s death that inspires this kid to step up.’ Marvel’s editor in chief Axel Alonso denied that having a black Spider Man was a publicity stunt. What you have is a Spider-Man for the 21st century who’s reflective of our culture and diversity. ‘As someone who grew up on a steady diet of ‘Luke Cage, Hero For Hire’ and ‘Shang Chi, Master of Kung Fu,’ I am personally invested. ‘This was a conscious decision. Here at Marvel, we pride ourselves on reflecting the real world in all its diversity. ‘We think that readers will fall in love with Miles Morales the same way they fell in love with Peter Parker.’ Italian artist Sara Pichelli, who designed Spider-Man’s new look, added: ‘Maybe sooner or later a black or gay – or both – hero will be considered something absolutely normal.’ Not everything in the world of Spider Man has changed, however. The Ultimate imprint is separate from Marvel’s other comics – where Parker is alive and well. Ultimate exists in a parallel universe where entirely different realities can take place, Marvel said. We are glad Marvel is adding more diversity to their comics, but how are they gonna say Miles “might” be gay? We thought Lady Gaga said gays were “Born That Way”??? Source

Ever seen a racist, homophobic, Mets fan, Pastor, school teacher? Here he goes… Cops were called to Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Fordham after a church-goer interrupted the service to call for the removal of Frank Borzellieri as principal of the parish school. “I wanted them to feel my sense of outrage that he was brought into the community to teach,” said Juan Varela, 54, who was arrested yesterday on disorderly conduct and weapons possession charges and spent seven hours in police custody. Varela, who is Catholic but lives in Queens, said he sat in a pew during the 10 a.m. Mass. At one point he stood up, walked to the altar, faced parishioners and began railing against Borzellieri. “This church hired a racist. This church does not like Hispanics and blacks,” one police source quoted Varela as saying. Cops said he initially refused to leave, but finally complied. He said he was kicked from behind by ushers at the back of the church as he tried to exit. He was picked up by police about two blocks away. Varela was charged with criminal possession of a weapon – a knife – and disorderly conduct, cops said. Damn a knife in church, sounds like Varela planned to “lay hands” on this pastor if he got close enough. Peep what the good ol’ pastor was kickin’ The News revealed Sunday that Borzellieri, 48, was quietly hired two years ago as principal of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School despite his controversial writings. In his 2004 book – “Don’t Take it Personally: Race, Immigration, Crime and Other Heresies” – Borzellieri declared “diversity is a weakness” and that America’s rising black and Hispanic populations will lead to a “New Dark Age.” He has also written for the white supremacist publication American Renaissance. As a city school board member representing District 24 in Queens from 1993 to 2002, Borzellieri tried to ban literature he labeled “anti-American” from school libraries. One of the books he targeted was an biography on the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. He also introduced a resolution calling for students to be taught that U.S. culture is superior, and he advocated the removal of an openly gay teacher from the classroom at Public School 199 in Sunnyside. So the Catholic church is just going to act like their new pastor isn’t a hate-monger, bigot, racist piece-of-s#!t? Damn, they’re a tough crowd.
