Lil damn hooligans! South Carolina officials say a 10-year-old trick-or-treater pulled a 9mm handgun on a woman who joked that she’d steal his Halloween candy. The Augusta Chronicle reported Tuesday that a 28-year-old woman told authorities she recognized some youngsters Monday evening and she joked she’d take their candy. Aiken Public Safety Lt. David Turno says a 10-year-old in the group said “no” and pointed the handgun at her. Turno says the gun wasn’t loaded but the boy had a clip of ammunition. He was taken to the police station and was turned over to his parents. Turno said the boy’s brother, who is also 10, told officials he also had a gun and both weapons were recovered by police. Turno says the boys got them from their grandfather without his permission. It’s just candy kid, no need to go all Nino Brown on the lady. Cotdamn…SMH Source
She probably didn’t envision this scary of a Halloween… A “scream park” in Missouri became a real-life nightmare after a teenage girl was found hanging from a noose, authorities said. The 17-year-old, whose name has not been released, was discovered on Thursday by co-workers at Creepyworld in Fenton, according to KSDK 5 News. She was unconscious at the time and rushed to a nearby hospital, authorities said. She was listed in critical condition. “It’s a situation that’s under investigation,” Larry Kirchner, president of Halloween Productions Inc., which operates the park, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The teenager was one of the actors at Creepyworld, an attraction designed like a small town infested with ghouls and ghosts, police said. It is unclear how she became trapped in the noose. “This is odd and a little strange because it is a haunted house,” Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department Captain Ron Arnhart told KSDK 5 News. “It’s really an unfortunate accident. It’s sad.” If the girl comes out of this okay, you can bet this ends up being the best promotion Creepyworld has ever had. SMH .
This is Ayesha Niles. She spent her eighteenth birthday in a Miami-Dade County jail on Monday after trying to live out rap lyrics in real life. Via CNN.com An 18-year-old woman who was arrested after nearly 30 pounds of cocaine was found hidden in cake mix boxes in her suitcase will be charged as an adult, according to a Florida state attorney’s office. Ayesha Niles, who lives in London, was traveling from Jamaica to London with a stopover at Miami International Airport on Friday when she went through a routine luggage check. “Twenty-four boxes of cake mix in your luggage,” Ed Griffith, spokesperson Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, told CNN. “It just seemed extremely unusual.” It was unusual enough that the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agent sent Niles to the inspection area for a second screening. According to the arrest affidavit the boxes of cake mix contained a total of “+/- 29.30 pounds of powder cocaine.” According to the state attorney’s office the estimated street value of the cocaine in London is $650,000.00. The affidavit says Niles told law enforcement that the boxes were placed in her luggage in Jamaica but she was not aware of what the boxes contained. Niles was arrested on charges of trafficking of cocaine and transporting of a control substance. Niles turned 18-years-old this week and because of her age of majority and the seriousness of the crime the state attorney’s office has filed notice that she will be charged as an adult. Niles, who is still in the juvenile system currently, could not be reached for comment. “This is an extremely serious charge,” Griffith said. “She is looking at minimum mandatory prison time upon a conviction.” If convicted Niles could be sentences up to 15 years in prison for each count. Anti-Wall Street demonstrators of the Occupy Chicago movement stood their ground in a downtown park in noisy but peaceful defiance of police orders to clear out, prompting at least 100 arrests early Sunday, authorities said. Occupy Chicago spokesman Joshua Kaunert vowed after the arrests that the protesters would be coming back. “We’re not going anywhere. There are still plenty of us,” Kaunert told The Associated Press after police began the wave of arrests that took more than an hour to complete. Police began taking people into custody just before 1 a.m. Sunday, first in a trickle and then. Those arrested were led in groups to vans and two large white buses. “Take me next! Take me next!” some shouted as police began the arrests. Others chanted as they were led off: “We’ll be back!” Officers had begun placing metal barricades around the part of Chicago’s Grant Park known as Congress Plaza about 11:10 p.m. Saturday, minutes after the park had closed. Soon after that, police went through the crowd and warned people to leave or risk arrest for remaining in the closed park in violation of a city ordinance. Several of the protesters who remained inside the barricades in the park sat on the ground in the chilly Chicago night air. Others locked arms and then the arrests began as trickle before picking up speed. “One: We are the people! Two: We are united! Three: The occupation is not leaving!” demonstrators shouted. Others joined in from just outside the park. Police said they made approximately 100 arrests early Sunday but did not have a specific count. Kaunert said he expected the final figure to be higher after late arrests but police did not immediate return later calls seeking comment. Kaunert said those arrested were non-violent. “Everybody was very peaceful and smiling and there was no violence, though a lot of chanting,” he said. He urged authorities to let the people resume protesting peacefully against the perceived corporate greed and other ills they see on Wall Street and elsewhere. He noted it was the second straight weekend that arrests had been made in the park after 175 arrests the previous Sunday after protesters set up tents past public hours. Source
Ummm… A woman who told her doctor she had a sudden, unbelievable increase in her sex drive died four days later of rabies. The 28-year-old, who lived in India, complained that she felt constantly aroused, sometimes with no stimulation at all. Her confounded physician referred her to the Sri Gokulam Hospital and Research Institute in Salem, Tamil Nadu. They discovered that a small bite from a puppy two months earlier caused the disease. The fear of water caused by paralysis of the swallowing muscles is widely known as a symptom of rabies. But it can also cause hypersexuality, a result of inflammation of the brain. Peter Costa, the communications director for the Global Alliance for Rabies Control, said that by the time the disease reaches that stage it is incurable. He said: ‘If you’ve been bitten or suspect you’ve been licked or scratched by an infected animal, you should seek treatment within 24 hours.’ Pet vaccination programmes have been largely successful in staving off the disease in the U.S. But around the world between 55,000 and 70,000 people die of rabies each year, Mr Costa told LiveScience. Most of the deaths are in children under age 15 in areas where vaccinations are lacking. Mr Costa said: ‘Dogs are responsible for more than 99 per cent of human rabies cases.’ SMH. Wow.
Poor lady…this is absolutely ridiculous!! When Doreen Wallace fell and broke her hip in the lobby of a Niagara Falls hospital, she figured at least she’d get help — and fast. But that’s not what happened. Instead, the 82-year-old Wallace — who was leaving with her son after visiting her dying husband at Greater Niagara General Hospital on Oct. 8 — was told by staff no one could help her until an ambulance was called. To a hospital. “It was horrible. It really was. Everybody who walked through the door stopped and stared at me,” said Wallace, who already had a broken arm from a previous fall. She ended up spending almost 30 minutes on the ground. “I was inside the hospital. Why did they have to wait for an ambulance to come and pick me up?” As she lay face down on a metal grate, her right arm slashed, a security guard called for help and two nurses from the emergency room came over. But Wallace’s son said they refused to help until paramedics arrived. “I was floored,” said Mike Wallace. “We’re probably, maybe, like a 50-yard walk, literally, down to the emergency department.” In the meantime, Wallace’s head was wrapped in a dirty blanket and the security guard helped wipe away her blood with paper towel. Eventually, an orthopedic surgeon came across the scene and with the help of an assistant, moved the elderly woman into a wheelchair. Shortly afterwards, paramedics finally arrived at the main entrance — their ambulance allegedly originating in St. Catharines because no one at the hospital in Niagara Falls was available to help. The supervisor of the Niagara Health System said the incident stemmed from a communication problem among staff. “We shouldn’t have called the emergency room,” said Dr. Kevin Smith, who was hired on to aid the beleaguered region at the end of August. He said when a person is hurt in hospital, staff should call a “code,” meaning a team — not necessarily in the ER — is paged to help immediately. When asked why staff felt the need to call for an ambulance, Smith said that may have been an old rule at the hospital. He said staff has now been briefed on the correct policy and a review is underway. Health Minister Deb Matthews said the situation is unacceptable. “Clearly this is very disappointing and isn’t the standard of care that people should expect,” she said, adding she is pleased a review is being done. But little did she know that her brother’s two-week trip to Canada would result in a 43-page bill for more than $201,000. “I was freaking out. I was shaking, crying, I couldn’t even talk that much on the phone. I was like my life is over!” The woman tells WSVN-TV about her reaction to the mammoth bill. Apparently what had happened was that her brother had not turned the data roaming off on his phone during his trip to Canada. More than 2,000 texts and a number of downloaded videos later and — at $10/megabyte — you end up with a phone bill larger than many mortgages. While T-Mobile says it sent several texts to the brother alerting him of the rates, the sister believes she should have been given a heads-up at some point before things got into six-digit territory. “Wouldn’t you let me know as the primary holder and they are saying no we respect your privacy. What privacy? That is my account,” she says. Though it had no obligation to do so, T-Mobile eventually decided to slash the bill to $2,500 and gave the customer six months to pay off that amount. $201,005.44 to be exact. That’s crazy!! Source
