‘American Idol’ Experts Predict Elimination For Aaron Kelly Or Andrew Garcia

Kelly ‘opened the night on a forgettable (and regrettable) note,’ MTV ‘Idol’ guru Jim Cantiello says. By Gil Kaufman Aaron Kelly performs on “American Idol” on Tuesday Photo: FOX It’s getting harder and harder to predict which “American Idol” finalist is headed for the door each week, as seeming also-rans are suddenly surging (Katie Stevens), while onetime front-runners continue to slide down the rankings (Andrew Garcia). That might explain why our “Idol” brain trust was deeply divided this week when we asked who they thought would be eliminated after Tuesday night’s Lennon/McCartney songbook parade . While Michael Lynche, Casey James and Crystal Bowersox bolstered their credentials with more dependable performances, the rest of the field was solid, if at times underwhelming. That said, MTV’s “Idol” guru Jim Cantiello said teen Aaron Kelly’s mournful take on “The Long and Winding Road,” which opened the show, didn’t do the high schooler any favors. “Aaron Kelly got lost on a long and winding road and forgot to leave bread crumbs,” Cantiello quipped. “He opened the night on a forgettable (and regrettable) note. Although past seasons would indicate the grandma vote could take him very far, I think grannies moved over to the other young’un, Katie Stevens, after she gave her best performance yet.” Randy Jackson called the performance “sleepy,” and Simon Cowell said Kelly was running out of chances to be young and relevant and show that he can take some risks. “The only door that road is leading him to is an emergency exit … See you on tour, Aaron!” Cantiello said. The verdict was much different for MJ Santilli, webmaster of leading “Idol” blog mjsbigblog.com . “I figured Katie Stevens was next, until she stepped up her game with a heartfelt performance of ‘Let It Be,’ ” she said. “Tim Urban’s mop-top came in handy this week, as he delivered a competent ‘All My Loving.’ I can’t imagine he’ll be leaving this week. Aaron Kelly had the weakest performance of the night, but I think his tween fans will carry him through to another week.” With those likely suspects out of the way, Santilli said the only logical choice left was slowly fading star Andrew Garcia, who has yet to live up to the early hype. “[His] Vegas-inspired ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ failed to impress the judges. I think his time is finally up,” she said. Who do you think will go home tonight? Share your own “Idol” predictions in the comments below. Live at American Idol: What Had Kara DioGuardi Up In Arms?

You’d think all that flirting with Simon Cowell—and Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest—would put a girl in a better mood, but tonight that was definitely not the case for Kara…

Kara DioGuardi: Bikini Stunt Saved My Job

A year after strutting around in a black two-piece on stage on the American Idol finale, Kara DioGuardi tells Women’s Health that the move “probably saved my job.” “I kept saying no,” the songwriter said, recalling the plan to face off against Katrina Darrell , a.k.a. Bikini Girl. “I mean, what crazy nut is gonna go out there in a bikini at almost 40 years of age against a girl who is 20 and probably cosmetically enhanced?” Still, she calls it “a defining moment” that helped cement her place on the American Idol panel along with judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul. “Like, ‘She’s serious and industry, but also as kooky as everyone else on this panel,'” DioGuardi says . “I looked a little pasty. But hey, at least I didn’t wet myself!” Small victories. As for how she maintains her body, the American Idol staple says she hits the gym four times a week. There, she runs two miles or does 25 minutes of cardio. “Boxing, treadmill, step-ups, lunges, sprints, I mix it up … Weight training is important as you get older. You build muscle, which burns fat when you rest.” And in addition to drinking at least “two huge bottles” of water a day, she eats plenty of veggie stir-fry: “The more roughage you eat, the more it fills you up.” And if she ever loses motivation to maintain her fitness and diet, she counts on her loved ones. No we don’t mean Simon, although we can see him saying this: “Someone [close to me] said, ‘You may want to work on your arms – they’re a little jiggly,'” she says. “The people in my life have no qualms about telling me!”

Snooki Responds To ‘American Idol’ Shout-Out From Ellen DeGeneres

‘My mom called me screaming,’ ‘Jersey Shore’ star says after Ellen’s ‘poof’ reference. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Adam Abernathy Snooki Photo: MTV News Siobhan Magnus’ dramatic and sinister take on “Paint It Black” on Tuesday’s “American Idol” had Randy Jackson saying the singer looked hot, Simon Cowell calling it the standout performance of the night and Ellen DeGeneres comparing her to a certain pint-size MTV reality star. “Like Snooki’s poof , you just stand out,” the judge declared. Shortly after the show aired, Snooki told MTV News how excited she was about the shout-out and shot a compliment right back at Ellen. “I didn’t watch ‘American Idol,’ but my mom called me screaming. I was like, ‘Why are you screaming?’ She’s like, ‘Ellen DeGeneres just said Snooki.’ I was like, ‘Oh, that’s my girl!’ “How many people watch ‘American Idol?’ ” the “Jersey Shore” star asked. “Millions? That’s awesome.” This isn’t the first time a Snooki reference has popped up on network TV. In December, “Saturday Night Live” funnyman Bobby Moynihan donned a wig and some orangey bronzer for a good-natured send-up of Snickers, then reprised the impression in January. Snooki welcomed both the “SNL” parodies and the “Idol” name-check. “Honestly, it’s really, really flattering,” she explained. “I’m so thankful Ellen said something about it. That just shows that you made it. I knew I made it when I was on ‘SNL’ and they did skits about me. They did, like, two of them. You know you’ve made it when they do that.” Snooki and her poof have certainly made it, even if Simon looked a bit confused after Ellen’s comment. Snooki took that reaction in stride as well. “Simon doesn’t know me,” she said with a shrug. “Cool.” Have you used Snooki comparisons in your everyday conversations? Crystal Bowersox Performs, Wows Judges On ‘American Idol’

It was unclear until the show aired whether the recently hospitalized singer would even make it to the show. By James Montgomery Crystal Bowersox on “American Idol” Wednesday Photo: Fox A day after she was hospitalized with what “American Idol” producers would only describe as “medical issues” and after a full day of drama about whether she’d even show up for Wednesday night’s (March 3) “Idol” telecast , Crystal Bowersox not only performed, she brought the house down. And, in the process, she may have established herself as the girl to beat in season nine. At the opening of the show, as host Ryan Seacrest was introducing the 10 remaining female contestants, he paused, put his arm around Bowersox and asked her how she was feeling. “I feel good,” she said. “I’m a tough cookie.” And she wasn’t kidding. Bowersox showed no signs of being under the weather, leading off the episode with a soulful version of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “As Long as I Can See the Light,” which showed off her powerful pipes and earned a well-deserved standing ovation from the audience and a whole lot of praise from the “Idol” judges. “That is pure, raw, natural talent. … There’s nothing forced, there’s nothing pushed, it is just raw, natural talent,” Ellen DeGeneres told Bowersox. “And I am so glad you are here today. I was so scared for you. So please stay healthy. We need you here. You are amazing.” Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi raved too, but the highest compliment was paid by none other than Simon Cowell, who praised Bowersox’s toughness and compared her to one of the all-time “Idol” greats, Kelly Clarkson. “I know how sick you were, actually, over the last 24 hours. … It wasn’t just like catching a cold or something. You really were ill, and I didn’t know whether you were going to back here this week,” Cowell said of Bowersox’s complications due to diabetes. “What’s great about you is that you didn’t play the whole sympathy thing, you chose a great song. I have to tell you something, Crystal: I completely underestimated you last week, because for you to come back this week with that song, that performance … I promise you, this was like the moment we realized with Kelly Clarkson that we’ve got a serious artist here. And I think we’ve got a really serious artist with you.” Bowersox smiled and thanked the judges, and then was asked by Seacrest if, in the hours leading up to the show, she was worried about her health. As it turns out, she was more anxious about something else. “I was just worried I wasn’t going to be here,” Bowersox smiled. It’s a good thing she made it. Earlier in the day, “Idol” producer Ken Warwick had told Seacrest on his radio show that if Bowersox didn’t perform, she’d be booted from the show. But just before “Idol” went on the air, she calmed her fans’ nerves by tweeting that her ” ‘beetus is under control. Thanks for all your well wishes … can’t wait to perform tonight.” Related Photos ‘American Idol’ Season Nine Performances The ‘American Idol’ Season 9 Top 24

By Katie Byrne Kris Allen Photo: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images Kris Allen will appear on “American Idol” next week to help raise money for Haiti, it was announced Wednesday (February 17). Last year’s “Idol” winner has partnered with the United Nations Foundation to take a trip to the earthquake-ravaged country, and he will share footage from his visit and perform on the February 25 results show. Allen will head to Haiti on February 19 to meet with U.N. staff and Haitian people to find out what the country will need to recover in the coming months. Fox told The Associated Press that viewers will be asked to make donations online or by text-messaging during the “Idol” episode, with the money going to the Idol Gives Back Foundation to help support the U.N. Foundation’s work in Haiti. “I’m looking forward to traveling to Haiti to see the U.N.’s work firsthand,” Allen said in a statement. “The people of Haiti are rebuilding their country, and the U.N. is there to help them every step of the way. I look forward to sharing the images and stories from my trip with ‘Idol’ viewers across the country.” The appearance is part of the show’s “Idol Gives Back” charity effort, with the full “Idol Gives Back” episode airing April 21. The charity show took a break last season due to the pressure of producing that show along with the finale. “Idol” judge Randy Jackson suggested that this year’s “Idol Gives Back” might benefit Haiti, and it looks like that is part of the plan. Kara DioGuardi in Maxim: Hot or Not?

There’s little question that Kara DioGuardi is annoying on American Idol . She comes across as cocky and condescending, taking extreme offense any time Simon makes a dig in her direction and somehow managing to be neither reassuring to the contestants nor especially criticial. She doesn’t even have a Randy Jackson, dawg-like catchphrase. But there is one debate regarding this singer/songwriter: Is she attractive? We wondered about this issue when DioGuardi strutted her stuff in a bikini on last May’s Idol finale. We’re now forced to ponder the question again because Kara is featured on Maxim.com: During an interview with the men’s magazine, DioGuardi touches on her fellow judges. A few excerpts: On missing Paula Abdul : During the auditions, I missed her. She was so nurturing, and I try to have some of that in my critiques. I wouldn’t say I have the maternal instinct that she had, though. I’m a little bit more New York, a little more hard-edge. On Simon leaving the show : All I can say is the guy can do things not many folks can get away with, and people like when someone is true to himself. On the addition of Ellen DeGeneres : I was like, “Rock on!” Are you kidding? The thing with Ellen I don’t think everybody understands is that she’s a huge music lover. That’s what you need to be on Idol . DioGuardi stood up for Ellen yesterday, following the latter’s first night as a judge. But we still come back to the pertinent topic at hands. These photos are Kara are…
