Game’s Tweet ‘Interfered’ With Police, Sheriff’s Department Says

Rapper claims a friend accidentally sent tweet of department phone numbers, resulting in ‘overwhelmed’ lines. By Rob Markman The Game (file) Photo: Jason LaVeris/ Getty Images It’s no secret that Game has an itchy Twitter finger, and now a tweet from his account has landed him in hot water with the police. After a message appeared on the West Coast rapper’s Twitter asking aspiring interns to call the sheriff’s station in Compton, the station’s phone lines were flooded with calls. The resulting calls reportedly caused a delay in emergency services, including a missing person report, a spousal assault incident, two robberies and a stolen car incident. Now the sheriff’s department is looking to hit the rapper up with a series of charges. A press release issued to MTV News by the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department said that the phone calls started at about 5:23 p.m. PT on Friday (August 12) and didn’t subside until a few hours later, at 8. “These needless phone calls interfered with the ability of sheriff’s desk personnel to answer the business line phones and 9-1-1 calls, and for dispatchers to send help to people who really needed it,” said Captain Mike Parker of the Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau. “We don’t know how many people needed help but couldn’t get through the overwhelmed phone lines.” Parker tweeted the Game directly, alerting him that his initial call-out was jeopardizing public safety. Game, however, told TMZ.com that he wasn’t responsible for the tweet, and that a friend accidently sent the message from the rapper’s phone while he was at a photo shoot on Friday. The sheriff’s department is now presenting their case to the district attorney’s office in consideration of a criminal filing of three charges including annoying or harassing phone calls via electronic device or Internet, delaying or obstructing peace officers in the performance of their duties, and knowingly and maliciously disrupting or impeding communications over a public safety radio frequency. MTV News reached out to Game’s publicist regarding these reports and is still awaiting a response. Related Videos ‘RapFix Live’ With Game, Diddy And Machine Gun Kelly Related Artists The Game

Who Would You Rather: Hot Hunk Edition!

Has the torch of hotness been passed? At yesterday’s Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s luncheon in Beverly Hills, Mark Wahlberg took to the podium, looked at Leonardo DiCaprio and said: “I’m sitting at a table with a gentleman who is better looking than you and is in better shape than me. So, we’re both out of a job, dude. Taylor Lautner! We’re screwed.” Wahlberg’s praise flattered Lautner (“Hearing words like that from Mark and everybody it’s just really surreal.”), but they simply caused us to wonder: is the rapper-turned-actor correct? Which of these stars would you rather take it from?

Chris Brown Has ‘All The Characteristics,’ Says Jay Rock

‘The dude can dance, sing and rap … he’s a talented young brother,’ Jay Rock says of his ‘Westside’ collabo with Brown. By Rob Markman Jay Rock Photo: MTV News Jay Rock is known to keep it gangsta, but on “Westside,” a track off of his debut album Follow Me Home, the Watts, Los Angeles, MC slows it down with Chris Brown on the hook. The song, produced by Tha Bizness, serves as an ode to the allure of Hollywood. “Basically, it’s just tellin’ a young chick, if you wanna come to the West Coast, we’ll book you a flight. Come hang out with us and have a good time,” Rock told MTV News. “It’s a wonderful record. It’s for the ladies.” Brown, who is known for chart toppers like 2005’s breakout single “Run It” and his current hit “Look at Me Now,” didn’t have a chemistry problem with underground fave Jay Rock. In fact, the rapper says that the union came together rather easily. “That’s my dude, I done seen him a couple of times in the streets and holla’d at him. We exchanged numbers and we kept in touch,” Jay said. “He’s a busy dude and he was doin’ a video and I was like, ‘Man I got this record.’ He was like, ‘All right man, when I get finished doing this video, I’m going to go to the studio and come through.’ And it was just like that.” Once in the studio, Brown laid down his vocals in no time. “He did the hook within 15-20 minutes. That dude, he grinds and he had other stuff that he had to do, but he still [did it].” The result is a smooth, breezy tune whose lyrics invite a lover for a Westside rendezvous. And while fans may find the pairing of CB and Jay Rock a bit surprising, the rapper can’t say enough about his multitalented collaborator. “The thing is, that dude, he’s talented,” he said. “The dude can dance, sing and rap. He got all the characteristics and he’s a talented young brother. I can respect him.” Related Artists Chris Brown Jay Rock

Future Is Tagged For MTV Jams’ Fab 5

‘I’m a trendsetter. The Future is now,’ rapper tells MTV News. By Rob Markman, with reporting by James Smith Future Photo: MTV News The future is unpredictable, but Nayvadius “Future” Cash is taking all bets. The Atlanta spitter broke out in late 2010, appearing on YC’s club hit “Racks” and segueing into rap’s collective conscious with his own party starter “Watch This.” Known for his repetitive and catchy hooks, plus his melodic bars, Future has earned himself a spot on MTV Jams’ 2011 Fab 5 roster. Conceived in 2005 on MTV Jams, the Fab 5 is a collection of the year’s most outstanding new hip-hop artists who have made a visual impact on the road to releasing their debut albums. Fab 5 alumni include Juelz Santana, Tony Yayo, Paul Wall, Young Jeezy, Kid Cudi, Drake and 2011’s first inductee, Big Sean . This year, MTV Jams, MTV News and Sucker Free will bring you 2011’s hottest new hip-hop upstarts, and they get no hotter than Future! “Future is a painter, very creative, very original. I’m a trendsetter. The Future is now,” the rapper said. Growing up in Atlanta’s Zone 6 section, Future had to look no further than his own family for musical inspiration. As the younger cousin of Organized Noize (Outkast, Goodie Mob) producer Rico Wade, Future soaked up tons of game. “I got the nickname Future from the Dungeon Family,” he said of the collective that is made up of Outkast, Goodie Mob, Organized Noize and others. “My dog G-Rock used to always tell me, ‘You’re the future, you’re the future. You’re young, man. Keep dreamin’ and settin’ new goals and achieving new goals and just reach to the top and stay at the top.’ ” Though he hasn’t quite reached the heights that he plans to, the 25-year-old is well on his way. The Astronaut Kid, as he calls himself, established his sound on a pair of mixtapes he dubbed 1000 and Dirty Sprite. Since then he has been on a tear. Future is now heralded as Atlanta’s biggest young street artist and his latest tape, True Story, reflects his popularity. According to the rapper, all of his material is based on real events that have happened in his life. “Right now we represent music with substance, music that has meaning behind it. It’s just motivational music, everyday life stories and just put it all together on the track,” Future said. “I make music from my soul, so it comes across to my fans the same way. So when it touches them, it touches their soul and it comes across right.” So far it has! Check back here every Monday for the next three weeks to find out who will join Big Sean and Future in the Fab 5. And tune in to “RapFix Live,” where each artist will be highlighted. Tyler, The Creator ‘Cried’ Over VMA Nominations

Odd Future MC’s ‘Yonkers’ video up for Video of the Year and Best New Artist. By Rob Markman Tyler, the Creator Photo: MTV News Who says Tyler, the Creator is a foul-mouthed malcontent? Well, the foul-mouth part is true, but when the Odd Future standout learned that his video for “Yonkers” received two MTV Video Music Awards nominations, he couldn’t have been happier, as seen in his Wednesday night tweets. “Video Of The F—ing Year. What The F—,” he wrote before tweeting that he was about to “Pass The F— Out.” Tyler’s self-directed “Yonkers” clip was uploaded to Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All’s YouTube page back in February. Now five months and 15 million views later, the black-and-white vid earned the Goblin rapper VMA nominations in the Best New Artist and Video of the Year categories. Simple-yet-effective, “Yonkers” starts off with the rapper seated on a stool, performing the song’s lyrics while playing with a large cockroach, which he later vomits. A visibly disturbed Tyler continues to rap the track’s second verse, stripping off his shirt then putting his neck in a noose. In the video’s shocking ending, the MC stands up on the chair and kicks the stool from under his feet as his legs dangle in a simulated suicide. “Damn, I’m Looking At The Video Treatment I wrote In This Blackberry Back In Jan. F—!” Tyler wrote beside a link to the clip. In all, the rapper/ producer/ video director fired off more than 40 reactionary tweets , even threatening to go on a killing spree if he lost Video of the Year to Bruno Mars. Still, through the profanity-laced celebration, Tyler is just overjoyed: “So F—ing Happy F—!!!” he tweeted . “I Cried Legit. F— it.” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Beanie Sigel ‘Didn’t Apologize’ To Jay-Z

Philly MC concedes Hov ‘gave me an opportunity,’ but said press mistook his gratitude as an apology for dis tracks lobbed at Jay. By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Sway Calloway Beanie Sigel on “RapFix Live” Photo: MTV News Despite the lyrical vitriol Beanie Sigel shot Jay-Z ‘s way beginning in 2009, the Philadelphia MC is still grateful for the opportunity the rapper-turned-mogul gave him when he was just a budding Roc-A-Fella Records artist. However, during Beans’ visit to MTV News’ “RapFix Live” on Wednesday (July 6), he stopped short of saying he had apologized for his sharp words. XXLMag.com previously reported that the “The Truth” rapper expressed contrition after his Hov comments. But Beans, without specifically naming the outlet, said he felt the interview focused more on the controversy than his current projects, so much so that he still hasn’t bothered to read it. “I had a interview with somebody and we were supposed to talk about the music and what I was doing with myself and my music and my plans for the future, and what me and you have been sitting here on this couch conversating about kept coming up,” Beanie told host Sway. “I didn’t want to talk about that stuff no more. So if anybody read the article or the interview — I never even read it after I did the interview with [the reporter].” Sitting on the “RapFix Live” couch, Beans and Sway talked extensively about the rapper’s feelings on the demise of Roc-A-Fella, specifically, his falling out with its co-founders Jay-Z and Damon Dash. Beans alleges he never got a phone call from Dash or Jay saying that the Roc-A-Fella he knew was no more, and that left a sour taste in his mouth. And though Beans acknowledged that during his run with the label, most everything was all good, he just refuses to gloss over the bad. “I’ll reiterate today and tell you everything that we discussed and talked about out of all that was going on and the feelings that I might have had, whether they were good or bad, whether I was truthfully in my speech or wrong in my speech,” Beans said. “What we did together and what Jay did for me … he gave me something a lot of people don’t get in this music business for a life period. He gave me an opportunity. … We’ve been around the world together, people knew who I was, they embraced me, they wanted to wear the clothes we wore.” Despite Beanie’s grievances with Hov, the fiercely loyal Philly spitter admitted he owes the man his career. And Jay-Z has been steadfast in saying he always supported Beans the best he could. But Jay probably shouldn’t hold his breath waiting for an official apology. “At the end of the day, yo, all that don’t matter,” Beans said. “That opportunity supersedes my personal feelings. And he gave me that [opportunity]. You can’t deny he gave me that. So at the end of the day it’s about just growth and everything. It wasn’t no formal apology. I didn’t apologize. People took it that way. But it is what it is. At the end of the day, like I said, he gave me an opportunity.” What do you think of Beanie and Jay’s past conflict? Tell us in the comments. Q-Tip’s Documentary Comments Confuse Michael Rapaport

‘It was confusing to me,’ director tells ‘RapFix Live’ in response to the MC encouraging rappers to tell their own stories. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Kara Warner Michael Rappaport Photo: MTV News Despite all of the controversy surrounding “Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest,” ATCQ’s Q-Tip has encouraged fans to see the documentary, which is now playing in select cities. The Queens MC has bucked at how the group was portrayed in the film, and during a visit to “RapFix Live” this past March, Tip encouraged other rap artists to tell their own stories. The doc’s director, Michael Rapaport, who has weathered criticism from Tip in the past, appeared on “RapFix Live” Wednesday (June 29) and admitted that he was confused by the rapper’s comments on the live stream. “We crack the mold, we break the rules. We define this culture that we in right now, this Western culture, the sh– that’s moving around the world, whether it be Tribe to Lil Wayne, Drake to Kanye, I don’t care,” Q-Tip said to Sway back in March. “This hip-hop sh– is our sh–, and when we start moving in, control your stories, man. Tell your stories — that’s what I learned from this.” “I don’t understand what [Q-Tip] was talkin’ about with ‘telling their own stories,’ ” Rapaport told MTV News. “I don’t know if it was like, ‘Hip-hop artists should direct movies about hip-hop artists,’ or maybe he was saying, ‘I should direct a documentary about myself,’ which has never been done before.” Rapaport argued that a filmmaker doesn’t need to be a hip-hop artist to effectively document the culture on film and used “Goodfellas” and “Casino” director Martin Scorsese to illustrate his point. “Martin Scorsese does movies about gangsters, and if you’ve ever been around Martin Scorsese, he’s the furthest thing from a gangster, so I don’t understand the thing about ‘tell the stories yourself,’ ” Rapaport said, sounding perplexed. “I don’t know if he meant, ‘We’re from hip-hop, it should be a hip-hop director’ or — I don’t know who would go under the auspices of being a hip-hop director. Or if it was a racial thing like, ‘We’re black and shouldn’t have a white director.’ It was confusing to me.” The filmmaker did acknowledge that despite the back and forth between him and the rapper, he did appreciate Q-Tip asking fans to support the movie. Whether the two can reconcile is up in the air. According to Rapaport, the last time he heard from Tip was through email and it seems that the message was less than encouraging. “I haven’t talked to Q-Tip,” he said. “Last time I heard from Q-Tip he sent me an email and he said, ‘All you gotta do is stay white and be privileged.’ ” What do you think of Michael Rapaport’s response to Q-Tip on “RapFix Live”? Tupac’s Teasing Inspires Tech N9ne’s New Video

Kansas City MC says playful ‘Pac taunts like ‘How’s Dorothy and Toto?’ sparked concept for ‘He’s a Mental Giant’ clip. By Rob Markman Tech N9ne Photo: MTV News Strange music indeed. In Tech N9ne ‘s latest music video, “He’s a Mental Giant,” the Kansas City, Missouri, rapper puts a hip-hop twist on the 1939 classic film “The Wizard of Oz.” While Tech says that the clip’s concept came from director Dan Gedman, he also credits Tupac with helping to spark the idea. “I remember when I met Tupac in ’92 at Jack the Rapper [music conference] at the Atlanta Hilton. I used to be down there in the lobby and Tupac down there drunk, yelling and stuff. I used to tell everybody I was from K.C.; they was like, ‘They let y’all rap in Kansas City? How’s Dorothy and Toto?’ ” he recalled of the ribbing he got from ‘Pac and other rappers. “I’m like, ‘OK, watch this.’ ” Of course, Tech hails from the Missouri city, not the state of Kansas, where “Oz” is set. Regardless, the “Mental Giant” clip shows Tecca Nina looking into a crystal ball as another incarnation of the MC wanders through a fantasy world. Throughout his journey, Tech avoids various pitfalls like lustful women and an alien air-raid before escaping in a hot-air balloon made of stone. “Mental Giant” is the second single off of Tech’s All 6’s and 7’s, which debuted at #4 on the Billboard albums chart this week thanks to Nina’s dedicated fanbase , an 82-city tour and, of course, creative video concepts. “I just did it and some crazy-ass Wizard of Oz on ecstasy and shrooms came out,” he laughed. “I think that’s a good thing.” Related Artists Tech N9ne Tupac
