A puppy born with markings suggesting that she has a mustache has become a Reddit phenomenon – and you won’t believe what she looks like now! Actually, you probably would believe it. The ‘stache is real, and pretty spectacular. She may be growing up, but she remains dapper in all facets of life. Here’s the photo that first captured the web’s fascination: Fake as it may appear, it’s not. That’s just how a patch of black fur amazingly grew in on the otherwise white face of this sweetly bi-colored canine. Now check out what she looks like after a few months – courtesy of an update on Reddit from the owner – in a couple of photos after the jump! In a hyphenated word … life-altering.
The Powerball jackpot ballooned big time in the run-up to this evening’s drawing, with an estimated $360 million in play. Do you have the winning numbers? We highly doubt it. But if you have a ticket, you never know! Officials expect jackpot totals of this size to continue to climb, thanks in part to a game redesign that increased the odds of winning some kind of prize. This also lowered the possible number combinations to win the Powerball, however. In any case, the lotto craze is showing no signs of slowing. The “cross-selling” of Powerball and Mega Millions tickets – states being able to sell both Powerball tickets and Mega Millions tickets – also helps. As a result, large jackpots will continue to surpass all-time jackpot records set years ago, said Mary Neubauer, spokeswoman for the Iowa Lottery. Iowa is one of the founding Powerball states, where it remains huge. “It usually took a handful of months, if not several months, for a jackpot to reach this large amount,” she said. “Now it’s achieving that within a handful of weeks .” “I think the redesign is achieving exactly what we had wanted it to.” In fact, more than half of the all-time records have been hit recently. The top two all-time jackpots – $656 million from a Mega Millions jackpot and $587.5 million from a Powerball jackpot – were achieved in 2012. The last major win came when a New Jersey man won a $338.3 million jackpot – now considered the fourth largest jackpot in history – this March. Players aren’t complaining about the large sums. On the contrary. “I’d hire someone to tell me what to do with the money,” said R.J. Konyek, 36, an engineer in Omaha, Neb. “I’d definitely be up for the challenge (of spending it).” Insurance agent Joe Williams, of Middleton, Wis., is trying like so many others to get lucky with Powerball. Even his $4 investment gives him a shot. “I know rationally it makes no sense,” he said of his long shot. “But at the same time, without a ticket, I have zero chance.” You can’t win if you don’t play. Words to live by.
The Facebook page of an Arizona bakery became a national story after the owners of Amy’s Baking Company were featured on Gordon Ramsay’s FOX show. But the insane-seeming duo now says they had nothing to do with the EPIC rants that followed their Kitchen Nightmares appearance, which was ridiculed online. Instead, they’re playing the “hacking” card . The couple’s behavior on the show was beyond bad – it was even too much for Ramsay, who walked out before renovations in the May 10 episode. The Scottsdale, Ariz., establishment was accused of stealing tips from employees, selling desserts from elsewhere and being rude to customers. After the show, outraged viewers flooded the restaurant’s social media outlets, including Yelp, to call them “horrible,” “rude” and their behavior “criminal.” As the angry commenters bashed them online, the incredulous owners responded to the “witch hunt” by calling them “stupid” and asking them to “piss off.” The posts were later removed, however, and the couple, Amy and Samy Bouzaglo, now claim that a hacker is to blame for their alleged responses: “Obviously our Facebook, YELP, Twitter and Website have been hacked,” the duo said in response to the controversy on Wednesday … OBVIOUSLY. “We are working with the local authorities as well as the FBI computer crimes unit to ensure this does not happen again. We did not post those horrible things.” “Thank You Amy & Samy.” We’re sure the FBI will make this their HIGHEST priority. Amy’s Baking Company hacking excuse: Real or BS? Totally real. BS. They’re insane and everyone knows it. View Poll »
According to the Huffington Post, Reddit User AlphaF posted a picture of herself holding on to the edge of a clifff along with the caption, “Mom was worried about my trip to the Grand Canyon, I sent her this picture.” The photo seen below made it to the front page of Reddit and went viral. The Grand Canyon photo prank calls to mind the recent Onion article in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, “Mom Just Called To Make Sure You’re Not Under That Dangling Crane.” In it, the fake news source lampooned
“I’m here to answer all of your questions about Rampart .” With that sly nod to Woody Harrelson ‘s infamous fiasco of an internet Q&A, Molly Ringwald arguably won Reddit’s Ask Me Anything (AMA) for all of eternity — and that was even before she named Nights of Cabiria as her all-time favorite movie, answered Redditor memes with other memes, quoted American Psycho , and told tales about John Hughes and The Breakfast Club and applying lipstick with her boobs. For example, on the subject of her famed lipstick trick: Regarding lipstick, it’s all movie magic. There is a story behind that: John Hughes wrote it but never actually thought about me having to do it. He kept putting it off until the end of filming that long scene. I kept bringing it up, like, “Hey. We gotta figure this out. Are we going to have robotic breasts?” Finally we decided it was better to see less and let everyone assume that I was particularly skilled. Let the record show that Molly Ringwald did not, in fact have robo-boobs! (That should make some of us ladies who still have to apply by hand a little bit better.) Elsewhere, she was asked to clear up the rumor that Breakfast Club co-star Judd Nelson was almost fired from the shoot for giving her a hard time. This is true. I think Judd was doing the method actor thing during rehearsals. He was wearing Bender’s clothes and trying to annoy me. I was fine but John Hughes was very protective of me. We ended up having a powwow, led by Ally. I remember her telling me, “We have to get him focused. Like a laser!” I think a bunch of us including myself called John and asked him to reconsider. I am thankful he did. Ringwald, who can currently be seen on ABC Family’s The Secret Life of the American Teenager , joined Twitter days ago and set up the Reddit AMA after admitting to being a longtime lurker and Reddit fan. Head here for her full Reddit AMA, which will only ignite your totally ’80s Molly Ringwald obsession/crush anew. [ Reddit via @ifctv]
Here’s a doozy to add to the annals of great PR stunts gone wrong: Last Friday, Woody Harrelson took to Reddit to promote his latest film, Oren Moverman’s Rampart , in which he gives a pretty terrific and tough performance as a corrupt L.A. cop. Harrelson’s been an open book to the world in the past, so why not sit him down for a session of “Ask Me Anything” with the users of the internet’s arguably most powerful (and famously no bullshit-taking) community? Well, because it can go very, very wrong . As when Reddit user AndyRooney asked Harrelson about a rumored onetime tryst with a high school student at a prom in L.A. “I swear this is a true story. I went to a high school in LA and you crashed our prom after party (Universal Hilton). You ended up taking the virginity of a girl named Roseanne. You didn’t call her afterwards. She cried a lot. Do you remember any of this and can confirm or have you been so knee deep in hollywood pooty for so long that this qualifies as a mere blip?” Harrelson refuted the claim and attempted to move on in the AMA chat, but things just were not going his way. For starters, Redditers became testy when the actor kept directing his answers toward Rampart — a trick employed by any actor or filmmaker or famous person who has something specific to promote. Media training, people! Well, it might’ve worked on the late night talk show circuit, but it didn’t fly this time; Harrelson fled the chat as users erupted over his using the open channel of AMA to pimp a product, his handlers reportedly flipped out , and the rest has made history among spectacular press flame-outs in recent memory. The victim in all of this, and I’m not talking about some 18-year-old young lady who may or may not have had a fling with an actor at prom, is the film itself — Rampart is Moverman’s sophomore feature, an intense character study filled with noteworthy turns by Harrelson and his castmates (including Brie Larson, near unrecognizable as Harrelson’s rebellious teenage daughter). Following the critical success of Moverman’s debut film The Messenger , a sensitively observed drama co-starring Harrelson and Ben Foster (who also appears in Rampart ), the cop drama hits theaters this Friday and needs all the attention it can garner. And truth be told, it deserves to be seen. But this kind of attention isn’t helpful to anyone except maybe the Reddit community, which holds on to their reputation as an iconoclastic, no-fools-suffering information exchange on the internet. Reddit’s “Ask Me Anything,” meanwhile, remains a brilliant way for certain celebrities to interact openly and candidly with internet denizens. But publicists — if you do expose your clients to the wonders of Reddit, at least make sure they know what they’re in for. Movieliners, here’s your chance: Ask me anything who’s to blame for the Great Harrelson-Reddit Debacle of 2012? [ Reddit via Mediaite , hat tip to Martini Shark ;)]
Enjoy the fine mess, Matt Williams . Digg’s newly announced CEO has the privilege of cleaning up after a redesign that has users up in arms, the social news site scrambling to add back old features, and rival Reddit surging. More
Incredibly popular Internet linkdump Reddit was informed by its corporate parent, Conde Nast , that it could not sell ads supporting Proposition 19 , California’s marijuana legalization ballot initiative. So Reddit figured out how to preserve its soul and screw Conde, too. More
Found via Twitter on the Glinner feed, but from reading the reddit website it sounds like the image sharer website imgur has been blocked in Ireland by o2. http://imgur.com/ “Its looks like 02 are the first broadbrand provider to become complicit with the new governemnt nanny state internet policies. I woke up this morning went to reddit and every link to imgur is blocked WTF 02? Blocked becasue of their child protection policy – is anyone else having this problem?”-Reddit It's hard to see why imgur would be stamped as a risk to child protection, unless there's a problem with pictures of a horse or a hedgehog in a chocolate box. Though, the block has many Reddit users upset. There's an article on Daily Tech from April about the website blocking laws in Ireland. http://www.dailytech.com/Ireland+Considering+Chinalike+Filter+to+Block+Infringed… http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/finance/2010/0416/1224268442542.html “But critics say it is a blunt instrument that does little to combat pornography or other activities, while causing headaches for networks and ISPs. It can also cause inconvenience and costly disruptions to service for innocent companies and individuals if their websites, internet access and e-mail get cut off. Paul Durrant of the Internet Service Providers’ Association of Ireland says blocking brings cost burdens for service providers and is not particularly effective. He also says it often means many legitimate websites are barred.” added by: Mcellie
