‘I wanted to make hip-hop that I felt right now and the way that I’ve known it in my years to sound,’ rapper says. By Jocelyn Vena Common Photo: MTV News With the Maya Angelou controversy over his song “The Dreamer” cleared up, Common can now drop his newest release, The Dreamer/The Believer , with a clear conscience. The rapper’s latest effort hits the streets on Tuesday. “That’s very special to me, man. I’m excited, man. This is like one of the favorite, one of my favorite albums that I ever been a part of,” he told MTV News on the red carpet at “VH1 Divas,” where he was on hand to introduce the Amy Winehouse tribute . “And I feel like it has that music that we want to hear. So it’s produced by No I.D. and it’s some great music. “I wanted to make hip-hop music. I wanted to make hip-hop that I felt right now and the way that I’ve known it in my years to sound,” he continued. “So it just was about, like, let’s make some real good hip-hop music and make it a great piece of art, so when people hear the album, they can have the complete package of everything.” In addition to releasing new music, Common is also knee-deep into the season of his AMC drama “Hell on Wheels,” in which he plays former slave Elam Ferguson, who is struggling with his identity shortly after the Civil War. “I’m supercharged about that also,” he said. “We’ve been doing really well. Everybody that has been supporting it, thank you very much. And those that haven’t seen it, you got to check it out.” Much like in his music, the show is about storytelling and taking fans on an emotional journey. “It’s a great story about the building of the Transcontinental Railroad, but it’s more about the relationships of the people who were there to build this dream, you know, from freed men, from black freed men, to the Irishmen to Confederates to Union soldiers to the whores of the town and how these lives mesh.” Balancing his acting and musical careers is sometimes a struggle, but it’s a struggle that Common is willing to make. “Once I really got into the acting world, I definitely had to balance it,” he explained. “I love acting — I love it for real and I love music too. Hello Bossip , My hubby and I have been married 10 years with 2 kids. He is in the military. I am having a serious problem and I will try to make this short even though there is a lot to my story. One night we had friends over and we were drinking and ended up messing around with another couple. (Me with her hubby, her with mine) This is not something we have ever done before. Ever since then my hubby keeps asking for a threesome with another girl. I keep saying no!! Girl, you’ve caught him several different times communicating with other women asking for pictures, and soliciting sex from them. Two times you caught him with his own cell phone, and the third time was via the internet. Am I missing something here, or are you really that naïve and stupid? Either your husband has got to be the dumbest ass man who keeps getting caught doing the same thing, or he wants you to catch him and he’s hopeful that you’ll change your mind and ask to join in for a threesome. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that he wants you to catch him. I mean come the freak on! You keep catching him. Well, isn’t this an interesting turn of events… Joe Paterno transferred full ownership of his house to his wife, Sue, for $1 in July, less than four months before a sexual abuse scandal engulfed his Penn State football program and the university. Documents filed in Centre County, Pa., show that on July 21 the Paternos’ house near campus was turned over to “Suzanne P. Paterno, trustee” for a dollar plus “love and affection.” The couple had previously held joint ownership of the house, which they bought in 1969 for $58,000. According to documents filed with the county, the house’s fair-market value was listed at $594,484.40. Wick Sollers, a lawyer for Paterno, said in an e-mail that the Paternos had been engaged in a “multiyear estate planning program,” and the transfer “was simply one element of that plan.” He said it had nothing to do with the scandal. Paterno, who was fired as the football coach at the university last week, has been judged harshly by many for failing to take more aggressive action when he learned of a suspected sexual assault of a child by one of his former top assistants. Some legal experts, in trying to gauge the legal exposure of the university and its top officials to lawsuits brought by suspected victims of the assistant, Jerry Sandusky, have theorized that Paterno could be a target of civil actions. On Nov. 5, Sandusky, Penn State’s former defensive coordinator, was charged with 40 counts related to the reported sexual abuse of eight boys over 15 years. Paterno, 84, was among those called to give testimony before a grand jury during the investigation, which began in 2009. Experts in estate planning and tax law, in interviews, cautioned that it would be hard to determine the Paternos’ motivation simply from the available documents. It appears the family house had been the subject of years of complex and confusing transactions. Lawrence A. Frolik, a law professor at the University of Pittsburgh who specializes in elder law, said that he had “never heard” of a husband selling his share of a house for $1 to his spouse for tax or government assistance purposes. “I can’t see any tax advantages,” Frolik said. “If someone told me that, my reaction would be, ‘Are they hoping to shield assets in case if there’s personal liability?’ ” He added, “It sounds like an attempt to avoid personal liability in having assets in his wife’s name.” Yeah, okay. Cotdamn there is a lot of failed assassinations going down today. People still want Casey Anthony dead and somebody came awfully close to doing her in. Casey Anthony is lucky to be alive after allegedly surviving an assassination attempt at her Florida safe house. Casey’s ‘panic-stricken’ bodyguards had to pull her out of the firing line and whisk her to an emergency hideout in the middle of the night before an assassin ‘put a bullet through her brain’, The National Enquirer reported. Casey, who has been dubbed America’s most-hated mom, has been in hiding since she was released from jail following a shock not guilty plea at the murder trial of her daughter Caylee on July 5. Despite efforts by her crack security team to protect her, a hit man allegedly located her hideout and stuck a death warrant to her door saying: ‘I know where you are, I’m coming to put a bullet through your brain.’ The Enquirer said it was eerily similar to an email threat the 25-year-old’s bodyguards previously received saying: ‘I want her dead! if she knew where she was I would do it myself!’ She was released from jail on July 17 and since then, thousands of hate mail and threatening emails have been pouring in to her lawyers’ offices from all over the world. The threatening message – which was allegedly pinned to the door – was said to ‘set off a complete panic’ and the security team had to assume that Casey’s head would be blown off the moment she stepped outside the house. The Lifetime cable network is developing a possible TV movie about the sensational murder trial of Casey Anthony. Fox Television Studios optioned the film and television rights to the book Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony, written by retired prosecutor Jeff Ashton. It’s not known when the project, which is said to be in the early stages, will air. Variety reports that Lifetime has not greenlit the film yet. In the book, Ashton takes jabs at Anthony’s defense lawyers and jurors, calling lead defense attorney Jose Baez ‘smarmy’ and displaying an unflattering view of the jurors. According to People, the film would tell the story from the prosecution’s point of view, detailing the three years Ashton and his team spent preparing and prosecuting the Florida mother. A source told the Enquirer: ‘There are plenty of people who want to kill Casey because they believe she got away with murdering little Caylee. ‘Her bodyguards rushed her off in the middle of the night to another safe house a prearranged safe hideout that was available in the event of such an emergency.’ The insider said decoy vehicles were also used so the ‘killer’ would not know which one Casey was in, as they are said to realize how determined Casey’s enemies are to kill her and had to take every precaution. ‘The fact she is still hidden and still alive is testimony to just how good her team of bodyguards are. They’re the best, but it was a very close call.’ Because of the terms of her probation for check fraud, Casey must stay in Florida for one year and report every month to a probation officer. This is not the first time her security team have moved her. According to the Enquirer, she was first hidden on St George Island off the coast of northwest Florida before allegedly being moved to a rural location near Gainsville and a condo in New Smyrna Beach. The beautiful and multi-talented, Christina Milian , has been a little under the radar lately after the news of her very public divorce from The Dream hit the media. Since then, Christina has been working hard on her new album and as the new social media correspondent on “The Voice”. With all these new projects that Ms. Milian is working on, we had to catch up with her to see just what has she been up to lately! Take a look at my exclusive interview with Christina where we chatted about her new album, dealing with her divorce in the public and moving on. How does she run in those heels? HelloBeautiful: How did you get the gig as the social media correspondent with “The Voice”? Christina Milian: I guess they were looking for someone to fill that role. They wanted someone that could relate to the celebrity coaches and the music industry. They wanted someone who could connect all the dots. Social media has had a huge affect on their fan base. With the following that I have and the fan base that I have, they felt it would be a good connection to have me come on board. They came to me and we had this great meeting and then I was there the next week! It happened that fast. It’s pretty exciting. Its fun. I have the coolest job. All I have to do is tweet and shoot interviews and be myself. I feel so blessed that I don’t have to go out of my way to do what I love. HB: What are you bringing to the table this season? Christina Milian: I like to help edit the videos and give fine tuning detail and bring the personality to it. It’s one thing to ask the basics but having been in this situation that the contestants are in, it’s easier to bring your own experience to the table. HB: What kind of advice would you give to anyone looking to follow in your footsteps whether it be singing or acting or anything that you’re doing in your career? Christina Milian: First off the biggest lesson is patience because it doesn’t happen overnight. The best thing to do is connect with a specific idol. I wanted to be like Janet Jackson and Madonna so I paid attention to their careers. Pay attention to their history and study the people you love and then study the people they studied. I think that’s the best advice. HB: Now, we have to get into the juicy stuff! How has it been living your life so publicly with the birth of your daughter and then your very public divorce? Christina Milian: You know, I’ve been doing it for so long that now, it comes with the territory. Certain things are crazy. There are things in my life that have been private and when it comes time to explain them, no one can believe it. When you live your life in front of a camera it’s not the easiest thing, but people are relying on you to help them get through the same thing. It’s actually motivating in a way. You have to accept it. People always think I call the paparazzi! I’m like “look, I live in LA they are EVERYWHERE!” I mean they pop out of bushes! So I’ve accepted it. It’s my life. It’s like having a spy on you 24/7 so it keeps you in check and in line from doing anything stupid. But I’m still human and I still make mistakes. I used to let it affect me but now I’m just like, nobody is living my life but me. At the end of the day, I have to live for me. I don’t mind. I’ve gained a lot of respect and support especially from women. They have helped be my backbone. HB: Speaking of that situation, how are things with you and Dream now? Do you still talk? Christina Milian: We have a mutual friendship and we communicate very well with each other. We both have very busy schedules but it’s working out very well. With all the drama, I just wanted us to be cool because at the end of the day all that matters is our daughter. It’s worked out well now since all the media is out of our business. I mean, we’re going to be in each other’s lives forever because of our daughter, by choice, because he doesn’t HAVE to be present, but he chooses to be. We have a great speaking relationship, and I’m grateful for that. HB: Do you think there is any truth to the rumors that some of his new songs on his mix tape are about you? Christina Milian: (Laughing) You have to discuss that with him! I mean, he’s an amazing writer and I’ll give him credit for that. I do believe that he’s taking pieces from all his relationships and making them into songs. He’s very creative in his writing and he’s speaking for a lot of men. I think when Dream writes, he writes about everything and he’s also adding what the fans what to hear: the realness. I mean, I’m not the only one in this situation that has a Mercedes car and for second everybody was like “did you hear this?!” and I started thinking that people might think these songs were about me. I called him and talked to him about it, and he basically told me that at the end of the day we’re both creative people and we dated publicly so of course they’re going to point the finger at you but we both know that these things aren’t true. But since all eyes were on us during our relationship, it’s natural for people to look at me. HB: Are you dating anyone new? Christina Milian: I’m enjoying being on my own and have been that way for about a year and some change. I’m pretty much not open to dating. I think I’m just spending time on me. I’ve been from relationship to relationship my whole life. I think the most time I’ve spent in between a relationship was like two months and then I was right back to like a three-year relationship. I have all the love I need right here from my daughter and I’m very protective over her because now when I do decide to date it will not only affect me but my daughter as well. I’m just not interested right now. It’s going to take some time. I’m not bitter I’m just enjoying my me time. HB: Okay, moving on from that and back to your music. Are there any artists that you would like to work with that you haven’t already work with before? Christina Milian: I would love to work with Chris brown, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West- we actually did a demo in the past that never came out, so I would love to work with him again. And Rihanna, I would LOVE to work with her. HB: Are you working on any new projects that we should be aware of? Christina Milian: I am working on a new album. Its just a lot of business matters I’ve been trying to clean up. I took some time off after having the baby and trying to find my new sound so now I think I’m in a good place. I’m always traveling and meeting new people, so I’m definitely in a place of moving forward in my career rather than making music just to make it. Trust me, your girl is working hard! And now the questions we always ask… Whats in your bag? My iPad. I went to the dentist today so I have this sleeping guard retainer thing. My Crooks and Castle sunglasses, Mac 3d glass lip gloss and my little red Cannon camera If you were forced to get a tattoo what would it be of and why? I have a bunch of tattoos but if I was forced I would get the quote, “live the life” because it’s my motto. I love to live. You have to be free. I have freedom on my wrist so I think that I would put that quote on me somewhere. Whats your vice and where do u go to get it? Food and shoes! But shoes definitely. I have my share of Louboutins. You can go to the actual store and get the best ones and there’s another store out here that has some great choices. Whats one urge you get but never act on it? To be aggressive with a guy and be like, “hey this is this and this is that and peace out!” But I don’t have the guts to do that because they would know who I am and it would just be all bad! (laughing) When was the last time you cried? Recently in church. I cried and I actually became a member of the church that day. It was a great message and I feel really good in my life and I feel really proud of myself because of all I’ve been going through. I’ve been going to this church for about a year and I have faith and believe in God so the message really spoke to me. I was amazed. MC Hammer is trying to make that super bread with his new search engine venture. MC Hammer, entertainer-turned-entrepreneur, demonstrated some of the capabilities of WIREDoo, which Hammer called both “Deep Search” and “Relationship Search,” at Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco on Wednesday. Hammer, cognizant of the presence of Google co-founder Sergay Brin in the audience, said that the technology isn’t meant to replace existing search, but to add value. Specifically, search queries add the notion of data relationships to results.
