And while it may seem like she’s been quiet since, her fifth album just came out… That is singer (and real life basketball wife) Syleena Johnson in a new spread for Juicy Magazine. In her cover interview, Syleena explains the importance of her fans to this album. JUICY: Your new album, Chapter V: Underrated, was named by your fans. How does it feel being classified as “underrated?” SYLEENA JOHNSON: It makes me want to cry. But it’s a happy cry… a triumphant cry because I work so hard. Even if I don’t sell a million copies, I am still triumphant because it’s *out*. The reviews for *Underrated* have been great. I feel that I did my part and that I’ve been triumphant in creating a great album. I can’t thank my fans enough because without their support, I wouldn’t be here. And I mean that! We [artists] are supposed to say that but I truly mean it. Besides having my sister, I didn’t really have anyone else to speak with about quitting music. But my fans were there and they were my biggest motivators. They were the ones who said “No!” and were serious about it. No more “running” for Carl Lewis A federal appeals panel took nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis off a New Jersey state Senate ballot yesterday, finding he does not meet the state’s four-year residency requirement after all. The ruling came nine days after the same three-judge panel from the 3rd US Circuit Court of Appeals said Lewis should be on the ballot. The issue, which turned out more complex than it seemed, was whether Lewis would satisfy a requirement that state senators live in the state four years before they take office. Lewis, 50, grew up in Willingboro, NJ, went to college in Texas and settled in California. In 1984, he won four gold medals in track and field at the Olympic in LA. He would add five more Olympic golds over the next 12 years. He bought homes in New Jersey in 2005 and 2007 and began working as a volunteer track coach at Willingboro HS. But he continued to pay taxes in California. Lewis and supporters blast what the say was a politically motivated move. In 1984, he won four gold medals in track and field at the Olympic in LA. He would add five more Olympic golds over the next 12 years. He bought homes in New Jersey in 2005 and 2007 and began working as a volunteer track coach at Willingboro HS. One of the best things about Fox Network was the fact that they were the network of “In Living Color.” We’re not exactly sure how the Wayans family managed to sell those studio executives on the idea; but, thank God somebody recognized a t.v. classic when they saw one. Dialogue, jokes and expressions from “In Living Color” became a part of urban culture. Good for Rob Van Winkle: Adam Sandler has been gearin’ up for his new upcoming comedy I Hate You Dad, and it looks like he’s cast 90′s rapper Vanilla Ice AKA Robert Van Winkle! According to Variety, Ice will play Sandler’s longtime friend. We all hoped that it would never come to this but unfortunately there will be a work stoppage this NFL season because the millionaires and the billionaires can’t get along. Now that the NFL Players Association has decided to decertify, here’s a road map of what might happen next. 1. The NFL will immediately file a grievance with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in an attempt to block the decertification. The NFL will argue that the NFLPA is acting in bad faith and that the NFLPA’s true goal is to get the NFL exposed to antitrust litigation as a way of grabbing owners’ money. 2. The NLRB takes no immediate action on the NFL’s grievance over the weekend as its offices will be closed. The NFLPA proceeds as if it has decertified. Monday comes along and the NLRB schedules a hearing, possibly for later in the week, to review the NFLPA’s decertification. 3. In addition to the NFL’s NLRB grievance, the NFLPA will file a request for a temporary restraining order with U.S. District Judge David Doty in an attempt to block the NFL from executing a lockout. The NFLPA, with Tom Brady and Peyton Manning as named plaintiffs, will argue that the lockout would violate players’ employment contracts with NFL teams and would constitute a group boycott under federal antitrust law, which it can now turn to since the NFLPA has decertified. Federal antitrust law is very threatening, as damages in a successful antitrust lawsuit are automatically multiplied by three. We have to side with players on this one. You can’t ask for a billion dollars and then not be willing to show a reason why you need it. Sh*t if you ask us for $50 we’re gonna wanna know why… Who’s side are you on, the players, the owners, or do you not give a damn and just want them to play?? Source
