Russian invasion hoax spooks Georgia

Caucasus nation Georgia went to war with Russia only 18 months ago so it's understandable that some folks might call a Russian invasion jke “too soon”. Pro-government station Imedi TV aired a 20 minute report saying that Russian troops were in the capital of Tblisi. But they totally weren't. Hilarious, right? Apparently not. From Reuters: Mobile phone networks crashed and there was a spike in calls to the emergency services. Saakashvili criticized how the report was presented but said it was not unrealistic. But U.S. ambassador to Georgia John Bass slammed the stunt. The situation between Georgia and Russia is “serious enough without this sort of sensational quasi-news activity and I look forward to the examination of what happened by the appropriate organizations,” he said. The EU also condemned the stunt. Are Russia and Georgia close to a rehash of their five day war? added by: afitzgerald

More Americans get news from Internet than newspapers or radio

More Americans get their news from the Internet than from newspapers or radio, and three-fourths say they hear of news via e-mail or updates on social media sites, according to a new report. Sixty-one percent of Americans said they get at least some of their news online, according to a survey by the Pew Internet and American Life Project. That's compared with 54 percent who said they listen to a radio news program and 50 percent who said they read a national or local print newspaper. Almost all respondents, 92 percent, said they get their news from more than one platform. “In the digital era, news has become omnipresent. Americans access it in multiple formats on multiple platforms on myriad devices,” reads the report, based on a survey conducted in December and January. “The days of loyalty to a particular news organization on a particular piece of technology in a particular form are gone.” Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter have made news a more participatory experience than ever before, the survey suggests. People share links to news stories by e-mail, post articles on their Facebook and other networking feeds and tweet them on Twitter — often following up by discussing the articles on message boards and other sites. Seventy-five percent of respondents said they get news forwarded through e-mail or posts on social networking sites, while 37 percent of online users said they've reported news, commented on a story or shared it on sites like Facebook and Twitter, the survey said. “To a great extent, people's experience of news, especially on the Internet, is becoming a shared social experience … ,” reads the report. “[T]he advent of social media like social networking sites and blogs has helped the news become a social experience in fresh ways for consumers.” Most people said they use between two and five online news sources, and 65 percent said they don't have a single favorite Web site for news. When looking for news online, people said they're most often seeking information about a common topic: the weather. Eighty-one percent said they search for weather information online, followed by national news at 73 percent. Just over half — 52 percent — said they look for sports news, while 47 percent said they look for entertainment or celebrity news. Online news users are generally younger than the average population, according to Pew. About two-thirds of the study's online news users were younger than 50, and nearly 30 percent were younger than 30. Racially, that group is more white and Hispanic than the national average, while half of non-Hispanic black respondents said they get all of their news from offline sources. Only television news still outpaces the Internet, with 78 percent of respondents saying they watch local news and 73 percent saying they view a national network or cable news channel like CNN, Fox News or MSNBC. The report was based on a daily tracking survey of 2,259 adults age 18 or older. The margin of error for all respondents is plus or minus 2.3 percentage points — 2.7 percentage points for Internet users. A combination of land line and cellular numbers was used in the survey. added by: singrrr

Simon Monjack Rails Against Latest Brittany Murphy Findings, Needs to Go Away

Brittany Murphy’s husband Simon Monjack is furious over a report that the star obtained medication – a majority of which is MIA – just before she died. The late actress, who died in December, allegedly secured a prescription for 120 hydrocodone pills 11 days before her death. Only 11 were found after. At the recommended maximum of four per day, she would have taken only 44 of them, and you can do the math there. So where are the missing pills ? Monjack says the pills were prescribed to Brittany’s mom Sharon, a cancer survivor, and the report is so outrageous that he’s considering legal action. What a surprise there. THE MONJACKS : Simon Monjack has been outspoken since Brittany’s passing. Is he trying to clear her name, or his own? What is his agenda at the end of the day? The release of Brittany Murphy’s autopsy report on February 26 ended all rumors and hurtful speculation that the actress had abused drugs, Simon says. But a day after that report was released, a website claimed that 109 pills were missing from a bottle of 120, leading to renewed speculation over Murphy. The article asked why so many pills prescribed in the first place, and by whom, while saying Simon Monjack has provided no help in locating the doctor. Well, Simon claims the 120 hydrocodone pills in question were really prescribed to Sharon , not Brittany (the truth of this statement has not been verified). Dealing with the report that falsely claimed “missing” pills belong to Brittany is harming her mother’s health even more, according to Monjack. Sure dude. He accused the source (TMZ) of devastating Sharon by “trying to dig up any last fantastical story based entirely on fiction to defame her dead daughter.” “This false story is damaging,” he said. “She is a very sick woman. It’s hard enough to lose a daughter but then to have this story. makes it even harder.” Also damaging? Marrying a famous actress for money, then setting up a sham charity in her name just months after she died. Go away, Simon. Go away.

Capone-N-Noreaga Revisit The War Report Before Recording Sequel

Busta Rhymes urged the duo to listen to the original, even though they had avoided it for years. Capone-N-Noreaga Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — Thanks to Busta Rhymes, Capone-N-Noreaga had to face the music. The Queens duo, friends for more than 20 years, decided they would make a sequel to their classic debut, The War Report, late last year. Upon hearing of the re-up, Busta — who guest-starred on the original album — called the group and told them before they went into production on part two, they had to listen to part one. “I’mma be honest: For years, I could never listen to The War Report, ” N.O.R.E. told MTV News. “It wasn’t because I wasn’t proud of it; it just brought up so much pain and so much hurt. To listen to it, I used to tear up. I used to think about Capone when he was gone [in jail]. I didn’t just lose a partner, I lost a best friend. It’s like not being able to use your right hand. When I listen to The War Report, it’s bugged out. I’m talking about years of not being able to listen to The War Report. When Busta said that, it was almost, like, painful: ‘Damn! I got to?’ But when I did it, I knew exactly what he was talking about. I had to go back into that style. It’s beyond the music; it’s the feeling, the tension that was built around it. We luckily captured it [on the new album].” Noreaga’s other half, Capone, also has his horror stories from the time the first War Report was made. “I really didn’t listen to the War Report album for a long time too,” Capone said. ” The War Report was a long time for me. Besides what he was going through and what I was going through, it was a lot of family stuff — losing my mother, getting shot. … During War Report, I had to go to jail. I was on the clock. I was on the studio-time clock and the judge clock. Every day, knowing I was getting closer and closer to going to jail, you feel like, ‘Why am I doing this? I’m about to go to jail. Nothing is promised to me. Why am I recording this?’ “Certain songs I sit back and listen and be like, ‘I gave 60 percent effort there. I gave 80 percent effort there. Damn, I could remember that day. I had to go to the hospital to get my bandage checked,’ ” Capone added. “I really didn’t like listening to War Report until Busta … gave us that talk. Like, ‘You have to. You have to.’ ” “I wanted Bus back as a fan,” Noreaga added. “I love when Bus calls: ‘Yo, you blacked on that Jay Electronica joint.’ I wasn’t getting those calls for a while.” The War Report 2 is slated for a June 15 release to coincide with the anniversary of the original. The first War Report came out June 17, 1997. Meanwhile, C-N-N just released a new single, “Thug Planet,” with Iman Thug. Related Artists Capone-N-Noreaga
