Ricky Gervais Bids Steve Carell Adieu from The Office

While NBC hasn’t confirmed that Steve Carell plans to make the next season of The Office his last at Dunder-Mifflin, executive producer Ricky Gervais has wasted no time in offering up his farewell. Said Gervais: “It was expected of me, as executive producer, to persuade him to stay on. With syndication in full swing the more successful the show remains, the more billions we all make. It was tempting, but the truth is, I believe he is doing the right thing. He’s fulfilled his contract and more, and is a huge film star now I’d be lying if I said he should do more. He shouldn’t. He should move on, continue to do great work, and buy a new house every time The Office is repeated somewhere.” That sound you heard was Angela Bromstad throwing her morning latte at the wall. Ricky Gervais to Curb Your Enthusiasm

Prepare to cover your eyes out of sheer awkwardness. In a marriage so obvious that it probably should have happened sooner, Ricky Gervais will appear with Larry David on the eighth — and New York set — season of Curb Your Enthusiasm . Of course there are no details what he’ll actually do on the show — beyond the aforementioned awkwardness — but supposedly Gervais will show up for a single episode late in the season. Pretty good, etc. [ THR /The Live Feed ]

Who Should Replace Steve Carell on The Office?

During an NBC Upfronts conference call this morning, TV Entertainment Chairman Jeff Gaspin conceded that he too had heard the rumor that Steve Carell would probably not be renewing his contract with The Office after next year. However sad that revelation is, Gaspin assured reporters that producers on the show are already “preparing in the event he chooses to move on.” But who will lead Scranton’s finest paper company into the future? Here are Movieline’s casting suggestions — feel free to contribute your own.

Madonna, Ricky Gervais Give ‘Advice’ In ‘Marriage Ref’

Duo, with Larry David, made up panel on Jerry Seinfeld’s new show. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna (file) Photo: MTV News Madonna has been married and divorced twice. Larry David just recently got divorced. And Ricky Gervais, despite having been with his partner for the last 25 years, has never actually been married. Still, Jerry Seinfeld called on these three superstars to hand out marriage advice to troubled couples on his new show — on which he himself doesn’t actually appear — “The Marriage Ref,” hosted by comedian Tom Papa. Each week on the show, celebrity guests dole out advice to husbands and wives who find themselves in stressful yet often humorous (to outsiders, anyway) conflicts with their spouses. On Thursday’s show, one husband had a problem with his wife keeping her dead previous husband’s prosthetic leg in their closet. Gervais’ reaction? “This is insane, what I just watched.” David, meanwhile, wanted to pass on this couple, saying, “They’re so moronic, I don’t want to help them.” The show and the hosts turned against each other at one point when the panel was faced with a couple with sex issues. Apparently the wife didn’t want to have sex with her husband because of his uncleanliness. David accused Madonna of hating men, to which Madonna shot back, “No, I hate you. ” Then there was the husband who let his overbearing mother have too much control in his life. “This is the Oedipus complex run amuck,” David said. “He’s in love with his mother; he should start sleeping with her.” Perhaps Gervais summed up the night’s festivities best when he said, “This is the weirdest show I’ve ever been on.” Related Artists Madonna
