Geraldo Rivera Selfie to Blame For Canceled Speaking Engagement?

Geraldo Rivera’s infamous selfie was the reason Duquesne University canceled his upcoming college speaking engagement, the Fox News host says. He was set to visit the Pittsburgh college for the 50th anniversary of JFK’s assassination, he tweeted, but that pic of Geraldo Rivera nude nixed the gig. The selfie of Rivera shirtless in front of a mirror with a towel around his waist created an uproar when he tweeted it in July. Duquesne took notice. In a statement to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette , the university said that the photo was “inappropriate and inconsistent” with the Catholic school’s values. Spokesperson Bridget Fare told the newspaper: “We warn our students not to put anything inappropriate on social media because of potential consequences — you could consider this teaching by example.” The decision did not sit well with Geraldo at all. Rivera sounded off on Duquesne , saying that not only was he willing to speak at the school unpaid, he was informed about the cancelation by a third party. A stranger at a hotel bar introduced himself as a panelist at the upcoming event, then broke the news to Geraldo that he’d gotten the chop. Rough. Geraldo Rivera Selfie What do you think of Duquesne’s decision?

Kailyn Lowry Son Poses For Gay Rights Campaign, Jo Rivera Reacts on Twitter

Teen Mom 2‘s Kailyn Lowry is a big gay rights supporter. A photo shoot involving her son to bolster that cause has baby daddy Jo Rivera irate, however. The shoot by Kate Hedrick features Kail’s husband, Javi Marroquin , and model Wesley Watkins holding Isaac in between them, as if he were their child. “Doesn’t this make you sick?” a Twitter fan asked Rivera, to which he responded, “yes it does.” But not because of gay rights, or so he claims. Called out for being homophobic, Jo replied, “Oh no I’m all for equality. But I don’t see how that photo has anything to do with representing equality.” NoH8, for its part, issued a statement in support of Kailyn Lowry : “Children learn about love and acceptance at an early age,” a rep said, so “standing up for equality is one of the most important things a parent can do.” “Biases can be learned too, but taking the opportunity to show their child what it’s like to stand up for what’s right gives that child the ability to recognize and defy those biases.” Adds the rep for the campaign, “We’re proud to see so many parents using the NOH8 Campaign as a teachable moment in their child’s development.” Asked for her opinion on Rivera’s comment, Hedrick wouldn’t get into it, offering only, “I don’t know Jo. People are entitled to their opinions.” Do you agree with Kailyn or Jo? And do you think Jo is only upset that his son would be used in the ad, rather than by the content of the ad itself? Share your comments on Jenelle Evans ‘ not-quite-as-controversial co-star and her ongoing drama with Jo, Javi and Isaac in the comments below!

Jenni Rivera Honored at Billboard Latin Music Awards

Typically a celebratory occasion, the Billboard Latin Music Awards took on a somber tone last night, honoring the life and tragic death of Jenni Rivera. The singer died in a December plane crash . Posthumously, however, Rivera took home six trophies at the ceremony, including Regional Mexican Album of the Year (for “La Gran Señora”) and Artist of the Year. “You are my diva,” Rivera’s father, Pedro Rivera, said in accepting the awards. “May God bless you, my daughter.” The awards also paid tribute to Rivera via a montage of clips from her live performances and her reality-TV show, I Love Jenni . Her brother Juan Rivera even sang “No Llega el Olvido,” accompanied by a mariachi band. Don Omar, meanwhile, led the field with 18 nominations and an incredible 10 wins.

Jenni Rivera Dies in Plane Crash; Singer Was 43

Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera was killed in a plane crash Sunday. Authorities in Mexico have confirmed that the wreckage of the small plane, which went down shortly after takeoff, had been found in Nuevo Leon State. There were no survivors; seven people were believed to be on board. Officials have not officially declared Jenni Rivera dead, but it appears hopeless. “There is nothing recognizable, neither material nor human” in the wreckage, investigators said, adding that the impact was such that the remains “are scattered over an area of 250-300 meters.” “It is almost unrecognizable.” The Learjet carrying the 43-year-old lost contact with air traffic controllers after it took off from Monterrey, Mexico, at 3:15 a.m. following Rivera’s concert there. Contact was lost about 60 miles away, Mexico’s transportation ministry said. It was scheduled to arrive in Toluca, outside Mexico City, before sunrise. Tragically, it crashed to the ground and claimed the lines of everyone on board. Rivera, a native of Long Beach, Calif., sold more than 20 million albums worldwide and was one of People En Espanol ‘s 25 most powerful women. She was also the star of I Love Jenni , a reality show that aired on Telemundo’s mun2 documenting the singer’s jet-set life as an entertainer and mother of five children. Her publicist, lawyer and makeup artist were also on the plane with her. Earlier this month, ABC tapped Rivera to star in her own show, a self-titled comedy, Jenni , that would feature her as a strong, middle-class, single Latina woman raising a family. R.I.P.
