MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell is apparently a tad disappointed that the conflict between Speaker Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Robert Gibbs festered as much as it has recently. While talking to Politico’s Jonathan Martin about yesterday’s meeting at the White House between House Democrats and Obama administration officials, Mitchell lamented that the four-day uproar was “a little bit unfortunate.” “You think they didn’t need a four-day story about their infighting?” Mitchell asked sounding slightly annoyed that things escalated to that level for the Democrats. Mitchell analyzed the situation as an awkward statement that needlessly morphed into a full-blown conflict. “It just seems like Robert just answered a question on Meet the Press, and the Democrats decided to make a federal case out of it.” “But better now Andrea, in July, than October,” Martin reassured her. A transcript of the segment, which aired on July 15, at 1:25 p.m. EDT, is as follows: ANDREA MITCHELL, MSNBC anchor: Do you think that they sort of kissed and made up with “Brother Gibbs”? JONATHAN MARTIN, senior political reporter, Politico: Well I don’t think that Robert Gibbs was actually at this meeting, but I think the consensus that you hear today from Democrats, on both sides of Pennsylvania Ave., is that they are ready to move on and try and get beyond this, and try to hang together here for these next four months. MITCHELL: You think they didn’t need a four-day story about their infighting? A little bit unfortunate. It seems like, you know, Robert just answered a question on Meet the Press, and the Democrats decided to make a federal case out of it. Anyway. MARTIN: But better now, Andrea, in July, than October, certainly for them. MITCHELL: Exactly.

Yesterday, we reported that Lindsay Lohan needs a good lawyer ASAP. Well, she got one, and he’s a heavyweight: L.A.-based Robert Shapiro, who’s most famous for being part of the team that successfully defended O.J. Simpson. Robert has signed on to represent Lindsay Lohan in her saga, although his plan not to appeal the star’s 90-day jail sentence, which she must begin Tuesday. Instead, Shapiro, whose son died of a drug overdose in 2005, will try to convince Judge Marsha Revel to put Lindsay in rehab and eliminate or minimize jail. The attorney has a lot of experience at rehab facilities and has a specific plan for Lindsay, and a specific place – a live-in facility in which Shapiro is involved. Can Robert Shapiro get Lindsay Lohan into rehab instead of jail? Shapiro, 67, recently created a foundation to help people deal with drug and alcohol problems, and named it after his son – The Brent Shapiro Foundation. The troubled star is supposed to turn herself in on Tuesday. Perhaps with this new legal all-star on her side pushing for her to get help, rather than just make excuses for her, the judge will show her some mercy. Fun Fact: Another member of O.J.’s legal team was Robert Kardashian, Sr., the father of Lindsay’s pal Kim Kardashian and her many famous siblings. What do you think? Lindsay Lohan belongs in …

As Todd Phillips’s follow-up to The Hangover , the expectations for Due Date were probably pitched a bit too high to begin with — and with Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr. on board (plus a high concept conceit), it’s no wonder. Yet that hype factor aside, shouldn’t this first trailer be a little funnier?

The Sparkly Vampire Clan of Forks, WA easily topped the De-Asianed Trio of Heroes on Friday, as Eclipse pulled in more than $28 million on Friday night to add to their already sizeable $68 million opening day. That’s an impressive chunk of change that’ll buy plenty of promise rings and pre-torn jean cut-offs for the whole cast. Meanwhile, the Worst Reviewed Movie in the History of the World managed to sucker in more than $16 million its opening day, but look for that number to plummet as the weekend continues and the toxic word of mouth travels. The stalwart Toy Story 3 , the urine-soaked Grown-Ups , and the failure-flavored Knight and Day made up the rest of the Top 5. Check out the complete numbers after the jump.

I know I previously begged for a little pity on behalf of poor, beleaguered Robert Pattinson, but consider my mercy at an end. Vulture is reporting that all three Twilight stars — that’s Pattinson, Kristin Stewart, and passionate wolfboy Taylor Lautner for those of you just returning from a cave on Mars — are set to pull in a record payday for the bifurcated last chapter of the Twilight saga.

Hey, Tobey Maguire! Listen up, Robert Downey Jr., Shia LaBeouf, and the rest of you would-be action heroes! Take heed of Sylvester Stallone, who has but a few words to explain the demise of his beloved genre since its zenith in the ’80s — and indirectly or not, you are implicated.
