Everybody Loves Robin: “Good Morning America” Co-Host Robin Roberts Returns To Work After Battle With Blood Disorder!

Robin Roberts’ return to “Good Morning America” Wednesday was cheered by celebs and regular folks alike. You need only look to Twitter to find the evidence: Nice Gabby… way to make something not about you, about you. But at least Robin was able to distract Gabby from the rumors of D-Wade cheating on her , riiiiight? Well it turns out Gabrielle Union isn’t the only celeb welcoming Roberts back, Oprah, the Obamas and many more also had warm messages for the now healthy morning host. Via People reports : A standing ovation from her crew greeted Robin Roberts at the door of the ABC Times Square studio of Good Morning America, even before the sun rose Wednesday – exactly five months after the anchor had a bone marrow transplant to treat myelodysplastic syndrome, or MDS, a rare blood disorder. Outside, in the street, a crowd of fans had already gathered with placards, banners and even an ebullient fellow from Dallas waving what he called the world’s largest wristband, hailing his heroine. It read, “Welcome Back Robin.” Once the show hit the air, Roberts, with her colleagues surrounding her, looked into the camera, broke into a great big smile, and announced: “Hi, it’s Robin. I’ve been waiting 174 days to do this: Good Morning America!” Said her co-anchor George Stephanopoulos: “We’ve been waiting for that drumroll. It is official now. Welcome back, Robin.” From Jimmy Kimmel and Bradley Cooper, sitting at Kimmel’s talk show desk in Hollywood: “Welcome back, girlfriend.” Also chiming in as the show played on: Oprah Winfrey, and then Hillary Clinton, who said good-naturedly she had no job prospects at the moment so would be free to watch Roberts. The rival Today show sent a gift basket and made a significant donation to the charity that facilitates finding bone-marrow matches. And from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue: “Good morning, America, and welcome back, Robin,” said President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama sitting with him. “Robin,” said Mrs. Obama, “we just want you to know that the whole Obama family, we’ve been thinking about you, and praying for you, and rooting for you every step of the way.” “You’ve been an inspiration to all of us,” said the President, “and we couldn’t be happier that you’re back here, doing what you do best.” Said Roberts, 52 – besides claiming she wasn’t wearing the froggy slippers she had sported around her apartment (“Or, am I?” she said) – “I keep pinching myself and I realize that this is real. This is really happening. “Faith, family and friends have brought me to this moment and I am so full of gratitude.” Her medical team was introduced later in the show. Before that, Roberts said, “There’s so many people that I want to thank throughout the morning, my doctors and nurses and family and colleagues and people who have sat in this chair and those who have blazed the trail before me.” “As my mother said, ‘We all have something.’ Everyone’s story has purpose and meaning and value, and I share this morning, this day of celebration with everyone.” She added later, after witnessing an impromptu jam session taking place in her honor outside the studio, “Our viewers have been incredible.” Roberts recently received the all-clear from her doctors, as tests have shown no abnormalities and she has continued to gain strength. She had already been back in the studio, doing a series of dry runs before her official return Wednesday. A special edition of 20/20 on Feb. 22 will offer a behind-the-scenes look at Roberts’s experience and those who have been inspired by her example. We’re thrilled that Roberts is back on the air and pray that she stays healthy and strong! Peep some more celebrity tweets below: Heidi Gutman/ABC

Kim Kardashian: So Exhausted from Taking Miami!

Kim Kardashian is just so tired, people. No, not from pretending she was uninvolved in a Kanye West sex tape . And definitely not from having any babies . Grade it, readers: What do you think of this Kim Kardashian fashion choice? Instead, the reality star told E! News last night that she’s “exhausted” from a week of filming Kourtney & Kim Take Miami . Good Morning America Accused of Using Robin Roberts Illness as "Promotional Opportunity"

Robin Roberts underwent a bone marrow transplant last week, as the highly respected journalist will need many weeks to recover and hopefully overcome a rare blood disorder known as Myelodysplastic Syndrome. Millions of fans out there are sending Roberts their best. Except for Tom Shales. While The Chicago-Sun Times television critic undoubtedly hopes Roberts makes a full recovery, that wasn’t the focus of an article he penned last week in which he accused Good Morning America of using Roberts’ serious illness as a”promotional opportunity.” “We all wish Robin Roberts well,” Shales wrote . “And we hope she is not being charged with sick days, considering the fact that her illness has practically become another character in the show’s cast.” As you might expect ABC News Senior VP Jeffrey Schneider responded to such a charge with a passionate defense of GMA . “To be clear, we are keeping faith with our viewers, who are deeply interested in Robin’s journey. We are also mindful that Robin derives strength from the overwhelming outpouring of love. That Tom wouldn’t understand is no surprise here.” What do YOU think? Is GMA focusing too much on Robin’s health crisis?   No, it’s news! Yes, it’s shameful! View Poll »

Robin Roberts Heads to Hospital to "Focus on Healing"

Having said goodbye to her mother for the final time last week, Robin Roberts took to Twitter this morning and bid farewell to her fans. But only for now. In light of her pending bone marrow transplant to treat a rare blood disorder, the Good Morning America co-anchor Tweeted the following note a few hours ago: Roberts is expected to miss two to three months as she deals with this surgery and subsequent recovery. In her place, GMA will seat such major names as Katie Couric, Barbara Walters and Kelly Ripa alongside George Stephanopoulos. But they are merely keeping Roberts’ spot warm, of course. She has every intention of returning to the morning program and we have every intention of tuning in once she does. Get better soon, Robin! We’re all pulling for you.

Mother of Robin Roberts Passes Away

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Robin Roberts today. The Good Morning America co-anchor – who is taking an extended leave of absence in order to receive a bone marrow transplant from her sister in response to a rare blood disorder – is now faced with a new personal tragedy: Her mother passed away last night. Lucimarian Tolliver Roberts was 88 years old and the first African American to head Mississippi’s Board of Education. Roberts flew to Mississippi yesterday to be by her ailing parent’s bedside and her GMA colleague George Stephanopoulos confirmed today that Robin did at least make it there in time to say goodbye. A note was distributed to ABC staff members last night that referred to Robin’s “beautiful and inspiring mother” and added: “It has always been clear where Robin got her strength, faith and spirit. You didn’t need to look far.”
