Robin Roberts Leaves GMA To Prepare For Surgery via TMZ Robin Roberts will begin her medical leave from “Good Morning America” on Friday … so she can undergo bone marrow transplant surgery. Earlier this year, Roberts announced she was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) … a disease that attacks the blood and bone marrow. Roberts says her sister is the bone marrow donor … explaining, “[She] is a perfect match and she’s been spending a lot of time with me. She’s been taking shots to help her prepare.” Roberts says the procedure is scheduled for Tuesday … and says she plans to return to work following her recovery. “I know I’m going to have a job when I come back.” As TMZ previously reported, “GMA” is planning to use a roster of star-studded subs to fill in for Roberts during her absence. Robin Roberts previewed her upcoming leave of absence from Good Morning America last night, as the anchor will soon be taking a break to undergo treatment for a rare blood disorder . “It’s fascinating-slash-scary how to prepare yourself for something like this,” Roberts, who has already survived breast cancer, said at the Television Critics Association press tour. She will be off the air for awhile, starting late next month, to receive a a bone marrow transplant meant to treat myelodysplastic syndromes, a disease of the blood and bone marrow. How is she feeling at the moment? Roberts admitted to “moments of fatigue,” but she cited her program’s recent ratings as a major elixir. “The run that we’ve had has truly energized me,” Roberts said. “It’s pretty good medicine, I gotta say, to be taking!” As for the “wonderful friends” who will be occupying this anchor’s seat? Roberts said she looks forward to Barbara Walters, Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric and others sustaining the show’s momentum alongside George Stephanopoulos. We do, too. But we most look forward to the day a happy and healthy Roberts is back in that chair.

In the wake of President Obama’s support for gay marriage , his all-but-certain Republican foe in the 2012 presidential election reaffirmed that he is opposed to it. Mitt Romney said he is opposed to both civil unions and same-sex marriage, in fact. The former Massachusetts governor told Denver Fox affiliate KDVR-TV: “Well, when these issues were raised in my state of Massachusetts, I indicated my view, which is I do not favor marriage between people of the same gender, and I do not favor civil unions if they are identical to marriage other than by name.” “My view is the domestic partnership benefits, hospital visitation rights, and the like are appropriate but that the others are not,” added Romney. Obama’s support came following Tuesday’s passage of North Carolina Amendment One, a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, civil unions and domestic partnerships, and Vice President Joe Biden support for gay marriage. He made the end of his “evolution” on the topic official in an interview with ABC News’ Robin Roberts, which aired on Good Morning America today. “Over the course of several years, I have talked to friends and family and neighbors, and I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together,” he said. “When I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.” President Obama on Gay Marriage As the Republican nominee, Mitt Romney supports a federal constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman, according to the National Organization for Marriage pledge he signed. He also pledged to defend the Defense of Marriage Act in court, in contrast to the Obama administration, which does not defend DOMA as it thinks the 1996 law banning federal recognition of gay marriage is unconstitutional. After the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled that gays had the right to marry in 2003, Romney initially said he would follow the ruling while seeking a constitutional amendment to overturn it. The Good Morning America host remained calm and reasonable in the face of Nancy Grace’s condescending absurdity today, as he tried to get Grace to admit that she shouldn’t have wondered about whether or not someone pushed Whitney Houston’s body under water in her hotel room last Saturday. What prompted Grace to hint at that possibility? Nothing in this case, merely her experience as an attorney overall, which gives her a unique view on what comes next. Nancy Grace on Good Morning America “There is nothing delicate or nice about a murder, a death, an unexpected death, or an autopsy,” Grace said. “What that means in the real world, not the ivory tower of Harvard Law School… an autopsy, of why her body was transported to the Coroner’s Office, is to determine cause of death whether it be overdose, natural causes, accident, or homicide. It is not a homicide and I am thankful for that, but I still want the truth.” Okay. That makes her the same as about 100 million other Americans. Why utter a word about anyone shoving Whitney’s head under water? Abrams tried to get his guest to focus on this specific question. “I’m arguing with you over going on television and making a comment that I think was rightfully viewed as inappropriate,” he says in the video above. “And sometimes there’s a time to say ‘you know what, I shouldn’t have said that in retrospect. A nicer way to say that, or a more accurate way to say that, would have been x, y, or z.'” Of course, Grace remained obstinate, and Robin Roberts ended the segment with a simple, obvious point. Well… an obvious point to anyone not looking cash in on a well-publicized death. Why not just wait until the autopsy results are released before commenting at all?

After Chris Brown’s explosive blowup at “Good Morning America” last week, it’s reported that ABC wants to book him in a sit down interview with none other than ex-girlfriend Rihanna. Wow. The network hopes that they will be able to pull this off since the restraining order Rihanna had against Chris was lifted a few months ago. According to Popeater.com , a source close to ABC News told E! that they wanted to “milk this event for everything that its worth.. it’s all about the ratings.” Another rumor is that the network is thinking about offering Chris a reality show even though E! shut that rumor down right at the source, saying “No, that would never happen.” What is more likely to happen according to sources close to the network is having Chris and Rihanna sit down and talk for the first time, on television. E! says that if ABC is able to pull this interview off, Robin Roberts (the same women who Chris sat down with during his Good Morning America interview before he went off in the dressing room), will be the woman orchestrating the television special. Sources tell the New York Post that the two decided to end their business relationship. Who could blame her for bailing?
