Ice Cube is making a full time move to TV with his new show “Eye For An Eye.” In addition to starring in the vigilante drama series, Cube will work as the executive producer. “Eye For An Eye” will air on FX, and here’s how Deadline.com describes it: “Eye For An Eye” centers on a complex man, played by Ice Cube, who is a veteran paramedic. After too many years of leaving the scenes of violent crimes with a victim struggling to live in the back of his ambulance, he snaps and starts going eye for an eye. When his thirst for revenge proves addictive, his personal life spirals out of control as he tries to reconcile it with his newfound life as a vigilante. Cube will continue to executive produce “Are We There Yet?,” his film-turned-sitcom that airs on TBS. Since “Eye For An Eye” hasn’t gone into production, a premiere date has not yet been set. ‘It was necessary, because these are the things that happen in real life,’ director Chris Robinson tells MTV News. By Rob Markman Lil Wayne Photo: MTV News The lyrics of Lil Wayne’s ballad “How to Love” are probably best described as romantically tragic, but after Weezy premiered the video online Wednesday, the song took on a more dire meaning. The Chris Robinson-directed clip tells the story of an abused mother, who unintentionally leads her daughter to relive her own vicious cycle. “I have a daughter, Wayne has a daughter, and he really wanted to tell the story,” Robinson told MTV News. “We were talking about statistics of abuse in our community. We were talking about really telling this story for every young woman in the world.” The video follows the life of a mother, who is beaten by her boyfriend while her baby daughter watches. As the little girl grows older, she visits her father in prison, and then as a preteen, she is molested by one of her mother’s lovers. From there, the young lady, played by model/actress Chanta Patton, grows up to become a stripper and eventual prostitute who contracts HIV. The cautionary clip is heavy in its message and not necessarily easy to watch. It wasn’t easy to film, either; Robinson talked about the difficulty of filming the molestation scene, where we see the young girl wearing pigtails trying to fight off her adult attacker. “That was a harsh scene; it was difficult for us to shoot,” the director said. “It was necessary, because these are the things that happen in real life. And you can see the trajectory of where that took her.” The video in some ways is reminiscent of TLC’s 1995 video for “Waterfalls,” in which the song drives a narrative with a deep message. Weezy’s performance shots are almost an afterthought. “Speaking to Wayne, his performance — actually seeing him — was secondary to him,” Robinson explained. “He really wanted to communicate what his thought was, what he really felt when he wrote these lyrics, and that was the priority for us.” In fact, it was the rapper’s lyrics that drove the story home. Key scenes fell in sync with Tunechi’s rhymes. “For me, I think Wayne’s performance, we really showed him when he said these poignant lines, things that really connected,” the director explained. “The concept is more a narrative. It’s a story about two paths in someone’s life and how one small choice that you make can affect your whole life.” Lil Wayne, who hits the stage as a performer at Sunday’s VMAs , will drop Tha Carter IV at midnight after the big show. The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. Columbia University announced Thursday that Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson will join the Pulitzer Board, which gives out the renowned journalism awards each year. Robinson, who won a Pulitzer for his coverage of the 2008 presidential race, will strengthen the leftist complexion of the board, which already has a meager presence of conservative minds. In fact, Wall Street Journal editorial page editor Paul Gigot seems to be the only “openly” conservative member of the board. read more

Video premieres March 11 on MTV. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne and Eminem on the set of their video for “Drop The World” Photo: Young Money Entertainment Lil Wayne has been recording music and filming videos at a feverish pace as he waits — and waits — to begin his one-year prison term in New York, which has been delayed three times and is now scheduled for Monday . One of the most anticipated videos Weezy has on deck is Rebirth’s “Drop the World,” featuring Eminem . A preview of the Chris Robinson-directed clip has appeared online. The video is scheduled to premiere March 11 on MTV. In the clip, the superstar rappers can be seen together during Em’s portion; Wayne serves as the hypeman to Slim Shady as they both mug for the cameras while standing in front of a green screen. Robinson spoke to MTV News about the video, which he promised would be aggressive and use new technology. In another scene, Wayne is seen performing in front of a riot occurring behind him. The broken glass, fire, and commotion fit with the track, a raucous collaboration that finally sees Wayne and Em collaborating on a song that features just the two of them (they previously collaborated on Drake’s “Forever”) . Robinson, who’s worked with Wayne in the past, said Eminem brought a comic relief to the set, which was filmed in one day on the eve of the 2010 Grammy Awards. “He was a down-to-earth dude, very funny,” Robinson told MTV News. “He was cracking jokes all the time. Sometimes on a set it can get grueling, but I found Em’s whole crew to be cool.” It was the first time Robinson had worked with the Detroit rap star. Robinson had a long list of credits, including most of T.I.’s standout videos. The director also has a movie credit under his belt, again working with Tip, for his debut “ATL.” But the veteran director said working with Eminem was its own unique experience, noting that it made him feel like a fan again. “It was the first time I ever met Em and I felt like I was 18 again,” Robinson explained. “I was like, ‘I’m here with Lil Wayne and Eminem!’ Still, to have that kind of feeling, Wow, I’m shooting with these guys, it was good. It wasn’t just another day, it felt very special.” Related Videos Lil Wayne’s ‘Road To Rikers’ Related Photos Lil Wayne Heads To Rikers Island Related Artists Lil Wayne Eminem
