People Ain’t Isht: Father Popped For Smoking Crack In The Car While His 2-Year-Old Twins Sat Patiently In The Backseat

Got rocks??? Via NBC News: Police arrested a father Tuesday night after officers said he smoked crack in a car with his 2-year-old twins sitting in the back seat. According to authorities, Dennis Robinson’s wife called police after he failed to pick her up from work in Plainville, Conn. She called Robinson, 28, several times but he continued to give her excuses for not showing up, police said. Four hours later, Robinson’s wife finally got a ride home and called police to report her husband and her two children missing. Officers spotted Robinson’s 2002 Dodge Durango and tried to stop him. According to police he briefly tried to flee, but officers stopped him on Harwinton Road. Another man in the car told police the two drove to Waterbury, Conn., and bought crack cocaine with the kids in the back seat. The pair smoked the crack in the car, according to police. Man, some people should really never ever ever ever ever…EVER have children!!!!

Oogieloves Bombs With Worst Box Office Opening Of All Time, Still Planning Sequels

Oh, those Oogieloves — even a record-setting, all-time low worst box office opening of all time can’t keep ’em down. At least, according to Oogieloves mastermind Kenn Viselman, who managed to spin the G-rated kiddie pic’s abysmal $448,131 three-day take (that’s roughly $207 per screen) into something positive. Debuting to shockingly low $47-per-screen results on Wednesday, Oogieloves was headed for the wrong kind of notoriety even as business picked up ever so slightly over the long holiday weekend; by Labor Day, numbers across its 2,160-theater opening had risen to $72 per screen. Improvement! Speaking with The Wrap on Monday, Viselman, who boasted of turning the Teletubbies into a phenomenon and opened Oogieloves in wide release under his own Kenn Viselman Productions banner, embraced the silver lining: This was never about box office,” Viselman told TheWrap Monday morning. “It was about exposure. We’ve now got the notoriety we were trying to get for weeks before the film opened,” he said. He said that a financing glitch weeks before the release hurt the marketing of the film. “I won’t say we’re not disappointed, for our team and for the exhibitors who both did a great job,” he said. “But this wasn’t made to win the Academy Award — it was made to get parents to get up and dance with their kids. I know from talking with parents who did take their kids to see it, that they loved it. “The attention we’re getting as a result of this is going to help our video on demand and DVD campaigns,” he said, “and it’s going to help the next films, whether they’re theatrical releases or video.” Next films . Ahem. The “interactive” children’s adventure involves three giant candy-colored creatures called the Oogieloves trying to find five magical balloons in time for their friend’s birthday party. Along the way they cross paths with a veritable buffet of C-listers (Chazz Palminteri, Jamie Pressly, Cloris Leachman, Cary Elwes, Christopher Lloyd, Toni Braxton) who sing and dance and encourage the kids in the audience to follow suit. It’s worth noting that in spite of the plot and box office response, Oogieloves did garner some critical support. Over at Rotten Tomatoes it boasts a 32 percent Tomatometer rating; one parenting-oriented publication called it ” enthralling for preschoolers .” My friend Nick Robinson took the liberty of Tweeting his Oogieloves theatrical experience yesterday in a mostly empty theater — if singing and shouting and dancing and blowing kisses at the screen is encouraged in Oogieloves , why not live-Tweeting? If you’re not among the target demographic of parents enduring talking vacuums and Doc Brown in a sombrero for the sake of their toddlers, this might give you the best idea of what it means to live through Oogieloves : From a narrative perspective the movie is troubled because it has failed to establish why the balloons are magical. #OOGIELOVES — Nick Robinson (@Nickrob) September 04, 2012 The vacuum cleaner is mad that the #OOGIELOVES drank milkshakes and he made sure the pillow was asleep so he could flirt w/ the window.— Nick Robinson (@Nickrob) September 04, 2012 I don't even like Cary Elwes that much but I feel bad for him as a human being. #OOGIELOVES — Nick Robinson (@Nickrob) September 04, 2012 The balloons sang a song and then they set the movie up for a sequel. #OOGIELOVES — Nick Robinson (@Nickrob) September 04, 2012 THE OTHER PEOPLE JUST WALKED OUT!!!!!!!!!! #OOGIELOVES it's not Over— Nick Robinson (@Nickrob) September 04, 2012 Reward Robinson for doing this so you don’t have to by following him on Twitter . And can we all have a moment of silence for poor Cary Elwes? Here’s a clip of him in Oogieloves as “Bobby Wobbly.” It’s worse than I’d feared . Previously: So, WTF Is An Oogieloves, Anyway? SMH: South Carolina Mom Stuck With Cleanup Bill After Son Is Killed By An Undocumented Drunk Driver

This is just horrible… A drunk driver killed this woman’s son last year and she got stuck with the cleanup bill. A South Carolina woman faced tragedy last June when a drunk driver killed her oldest son. But the still-grieving mother, Loretta Robinson, is now being billed for the various charges associated with the accident, including a $50 charge to clean her son’s blood off the road. Justin Walker, Robinson’s deceased son, was not found at fault for the accident. The accused driver, Anna Gonzalez, tearfully pleaded guilty in court last Tuesday, the Daily Mail reported. According to MSNBC, the undocumented woman had been living in the United States for 12 years, but never got a South Carolina driver’s license. Gonzalez was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Robinson was on hand in court to express her outrage at the bills she’s received since losing her son. “I had to pay to have the vehicle towed. I had to pay for the vehicle to be removed and to clean up the street from Justin’s blood,” Robinson said. According to WYFF, Robinson also paid to have the wrecked car stored for months in case there was a trial. The South Carolina State Office of Victims Assistance offers a combined total of up to $15,000 for medical, funeral, counseling and wage compensation for the families of victims of crime. According to NBC Greenville, Robinson received some money from the victim’s assistance office, but it did not cover the costs of cleanup or storage. There has been some recent controversy about the crime rate among undocumented immigrants in the United States. In March, the Scott Gardiner Act, a bill that would authorize the deportation of any undocumented immigrant convicted of drunk driving, was reintroduced to Congress by Representatives Sue Myrick and Mike McIntyre, News 14 Carolina reported. “We have to be able, as a country, to figure out a way with people here who are illegal and commit crimes,” Robinson told WYFF. We really feel for Ms. Robinson. Our prayers are with you. R.I.P. Justin! Source WYFF

Green Lantern: Get To Know DC Comics’ New Gay Icon

‘Earth 2’ writer James Robinson tells MTV that Alan Scott, returning to DC Universe as a gay man, is ‘proud of who he is on every level.’ By Josh Wigler Green Lantern Photo: DC Comics The original Green Lantern, Alan Scott , is back in the DC Universe for the first time since last year’s companywide reboot. He’s courageous, charismatic and powerful, the same hero fans have loved and adored for decades, with just a few notable modifications — the most controversial of which involves his sexuality. DC Comics announced Friday (June 1) that Scott has been reimagined as a gay man, marking a significant change to the hero who has been around since the 1940s. His sexuality will be revealed in the pages of writer James Robinson’s “Earth 2” #2, and ahead of that, the scribe has been making the rounds, speaking with outlets all about the new Green Lantern. For those of you just tuning in, here are five things you need to know about DC’s newest gay icon: Like Son, Like Father Robinson revealed to MTV Geek that Scott’s new sexuality was partly inspired by the character’s gay son, Obsidian, who no longer exists in the rebooted DCU. “The only thing that bothered me about rebooting the character and making him younger again was that we lost his son Obsidian, who was gay — the original version, obviously, when he was an older man, with a son,” Robinson said about creating the new Green Lantern. “And then, with that in mind, I thought, ‘Well, why not make Alan Scott gay. Why not make the leader of the Justice Society gay?’ It worked on every level. I suggested it to [DC Comics co-publisher] Dan DiDio, and to be fair to Dan, there wasn’t a moment’s hesitation. He said, ‘Yeah, great, great idea.’ ” Original Green Lantern Is Gay, DC Announces Fighting for Acceptance Scott is certainly one of the more prominent gay characters in the DC Comics catalog, and even though many fans are accepting him with open arms, he’ll have his fair share of social hurtles to overcome. “One of the unfortunate things about the United States is that some states are less willing to [let] people have their personal freedoms,” Robinson told Geek. “So, in ‘Earth 2,’ some of those things are obstacles a gay person might face. But Alan Scott is a force of nature, so he would never let that stand in his way. He’s proud of who he is on every level.” Alan Scott, Media Mogul Speaking of every level, there are many layers to the new Alan Scott beyond his sexuality. One of the most important elements to the rejiggered character is that he’s in charge of a major media empire, for instance. “He’s a giant of the media industry,” the writer said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly . “By getting involved in communication, the news, and the Internet, he’s become a billionaire. He’s kind of a cross between Mark Zuckerberg and David Geffen. The original Alan Scott owned a radio station in the ’40s and ’50s, so he was a media giant then. He was this bold, heroic, brave man who took control, who would risk his life for you and be this emerald knight that was always there to protect the world.” James Robinson Speaks With MTV Geek About Green Lantern’s Sexuality An A-List Superhero Scott isn’t just a media mogul or a solo-operating superhero, either: The Green Lantern of “Earth 2” is a leader of men — specifically, the Justice Society. “He will be very much the leader of the Justice Society and a figurehead,” Robinson said in an interview with the Huffington Post . “Often, I think, gay characters, with the exception of Batwoman, are part of a team but are often aside, somewhat. Alan’s going to be at the forefront of this team, leading it, being someone that is loved and admired by the people of Earth 2. So that’s a subtle difference that I will be adding: trying to not just present a positive gay role model but someone that is a type-A superhero.” He’s Not Alone One of Robinson’s major goals for “Earth 2” is to present a cast that’s as diverse as humanly possible. To that end, the writer promised that Scott isn’t the only homosexual character in the comic. “There is another character down the line, but that character won’t be appearing for some time, so it’s probably a bit too early to talk about that,” he told the Advocate . “But this book will definitely have a diverse cast. Alan Scott won’t be the only gay character in ‘Earth 2’ — I promise you that.” Tell us what you think of the new Green Lantern in the comments section!
