Wiz Khalifa Wants To Rap Over ‘Really Tight’ Mumford & Sons Song

‘Roll Up’ MC tells MTV News he’s a fan of the rock quartet during Spring Break in Las Vegas. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Sway and Wiz Photo: MTV News Spring Break is a chance for willing college kids to try something new. So in the spirit of the yearly tradition, Wiz Khalifa — one of the performers at MTV’s Spring Break 2011 , along with Snoop Dogg, Pitbull and Lupe Fiasco — spoke to MTV News about experimenting with rhyming. We asked the “Black and Yellow” star whose music he would pick if he could rap over any other artist’s song. “Mumford & Sons, they got a really tight song that I wanna rap over,” Wiz said. “That I would totally rap over if I had the chance to ’cause usually, when I see the video or hear the song, I get it real quick but now I have to ask again. I forgot. [Editor’s note: Wiz is likely referring either to M&S singles “Little Lion Man” or “The Cave.”] “They’re tight and really musical,” he said about the West London quartet. “I like the instruments they use, like bongos. It’s tight and acceptable.” Although Wiz took to the Las Vegas stage joined by his DJ, the Pittsburgh rapper said he also had a band in mind if he needed a crew to back him: the Disco Biscuits. “They’re hard,” he explained. “It’s just sound-y. When you get that vibe and that music, it just feels good and makes you feel a certain way when you hear it.” Khalifa, an MTV News 11 for ’11 pick, is set to celebrate his major-label debut on Tuesday, when Rolling Papers arrives in stores and at online retailers. “We got a couple of surprises along the way to keep people interested,” he told MTV News last month. “But really, other than that, the album is done. We’re really excited. Everyone is excited. [Warner Music Group executive] Lyor [Cohen] came through to a session. I got so much support from the single and going into the album. So when we do drop it, I think we’ll get that response that everyone was expecting.” Catch Wiz performing in Las Vegas during MTV’s Spring Break on Monday night (March 28) on MTV at 9:50 p.m. ET. Bret Michaels Sues Tonys Over 2009 Onstage Injury

Lawsuit cites the incident as cause of Poison frontman’s near-fatal brain hemorrhage last year. By James Dinh Bret Michaels Photo: Brian Ach/WireImage Bret Michaels is suing Tony Award Productions and CBS for his stage mishap at the 2009 Tony Awards , where the rock singer slammed his head against a stage prop that descended from the ceiling. TMZ reports that the lawsuit, which was filed Friday (March 25), has Michaels alleging that he was not properly instructed on how to exit the stage following his “Nothin’ But a Good Time” performance alongside his Poison bandmates and the cast of the “Rock of Ages” musical. He claims he had to be hospitalized for a broken nose and a cut lip. However, things took a turn for the worse six months later when the rock star nearly died from a subarachnoid brain hemorrhage . And in the lawsuit, Michaels, who is suing for unspecified damages, claims that the onstage injury is in direct relation with his near-fatal hospitalization. “One of the most common causes of this type of hemorrhage is head trauma — exactly like the one Michaels suffered at the hands of the Tony Awards,” the lawsuit claims. “Through his sheer will to live, to see his children grow up, [he] was able to survive this trauma.” Bret says in the suit that producers have “failed and refused” to help aid the situation and claimed that he “missed his mark” during the performance. Reps for Michaels have previously alleged the awards show’s negligence in the incident. In a statement to MTV News days after the mishap, the singer’s reps cited a “lack of communication” between their client and “the producers, directors, stage managers and crew” of the awards show. Casey Abrams’ Save On ‘American Idol’: Fans React!

Most commenters thought the ‘Idol’ judges made the right decision to keep the quirky, bearded contestant on the show. By Gil Kaufman Casey Abrams Photo: FOX Casey Abrams looked like he was going to be sick when the “American Idol” judges announced on Thursday night that they had no doubt that he deserved this season’s one-and-only save. The bearded bass plucker tried to look happy, but the shock of the moment nearly dropped him to his knees, even as Randy, Jennifer and Steven explained to him that they were equally surprised he was this week’s lowest vote getter and that they couldn’t let such a prodigious talent slip away so soon. Based on the comments you made after Thursday night’s suspense-packed elimination show, most of you are on Team Casey, as well. “The people in America should recognize when they have tremendous artists like Casey and don’t vote them out just like that,” wrote Sharon. “The judges [were] completely right, CASEY deserves to be there, he is a unique [and] talented artist. CASEY YOU ROCK!!!!!” Peggy Sue couldn’t have agreed more, writing, “I’m glad the judges used their save on Casey. The save is meant to keep a flub-up happening such as someone going home too early, and the only other person I would want to save is James [Durbin] (maybe Jacob [Lusk]). It’s a good reminder for America to vote for their favorites, whether you think they are safe or not. Casey is a little bit unsteady — he is clearly very musical and fun and creative. He needs to use all of that to show us how he could entertain us in the big world, not in his backyard show.” Seeing Casey on the brink of elimination was a total shock for Sweetum29, who said Abrams deserved another chance thanks to his unique voice and winning personality. If anything, Sweetum wondered just what in the heck was wrong with America’s voters, opining, “This man always sings great and gives the audience a show instead of just standing in one spot blowing out a tune.” Among the dissenters was Scooter_88, who wrote that while Abrams and Paul McDonald are among the most talented musicians on season 10, “[they] do not have pop voices, so they will probably never win this show.” Sheila seconded that emotion, while adding, emphatically, that there was “nothing so special with his voice!!! he always yell[s] or scream[s] … very irritating.” Others referred to the bearded, J.Lo-anointed sex symbol as a “cheap imitation of [forgotten season-five winner] Taylor Hicks, but at least Taylor could sing. I think the judges wasted their save.” Perhaps Candy summed up the hirsute singer’s polarizing effect on some voters best with the pointed response, “Casey as the lowest is no surprise to me. His performances have been weird, he looks weird, he sounds weird, he acts weird, and he IS weird.” Reader Rimersh pointed out one of the long-running ironies of “Idol” voting, that “when someone is a clear favorite many will not vote,” which could explain how the heavily hyped Abrams ended up near the abyss. Whether waiting for his next endearing words of encouragement or recapping his numerous outlandish and creative expletives , America is having as much fun watching Tyler as he seems to be having himself. And aside from Tyler’s newfound fans, via “Idol,” no one is more thrilled for his resurgence in popularity than his daughter Liv. When MTV News caught up with her while promoting her new film “Super” recently, we asked for her thoughts on her dad’s new gig. “I haven’t been watching every single [episode], which I feel really bad about, but I’ve been watching a lot and I love it,” Tyler revealed. “I feel really proud of him and happy for him. He’s had a rough few years, a couple of years in particular, and I’m really happy for him that he’s enjoying himself so much,” she said.” Liv went on to say that she always knew how much fun he was, but she is glad everyone else is getting to see the other side to his rock-star persona too. “He’s so happy and naturally good at what he’s doing, it’s really nice,” she said. “It’s so funny for me, everybody keeps coming up to me going, ‘Your dad, he’s so sweet and he’s so funny!’ And of course it’s the man that I’ve known my whole life, who tells all those kinds of jokes and has that big heart,” Tyler said with a smile. “I’m really happy for him.” Don’t miss “Idol Party Live” every Thursday on MTV.com, following the “American Idol” results show, for analysis, celebrity guests and even some karaoke — get in the conversation by tweeting with the hashtag #idolparty ! Taylor Momsen is So Obvious of the Day

Taylor Momsen was on some website I’ve never heard of, but that clearly does better than me, because it gets interviews with Taylor Momsen, who I assume is out doing press for her Rock and Roll bullshit album that lead her to being as scandalous as possible before she turns 18 and everyone realizes she looks like Lady Gaga…. I get that her act is contrived bullshit teen angst, designed by a team of people, and I don’t find any of it all that hot, but I do write her on TWITTER demanding she piss in my mouth…she just ignores me…cunt…cuz she’s not Rock and Roll, this is just another role she does badly…but not that badly…cuz she’s wearing lingerie in public….and saying CUNT….

Nicki Minaj Says It’s ‘Crazy’ To Have Her Own Set On I Am Still Music Tour

‘I remember coming on, doing 30 seconds of ‘Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop,’ ‘ she recalls to MTV News of her first Young Money performances. By MTV News staff Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News After her spirited set during Wednesday’s opening night of Lil Wayne’s I Am Still Music Tour in Rhode Island, it’s hard to imagine Nicki Minaj ever getting butterflies onstage. According to the Young Money queen, the performance was a far cry from her humble beginnings onstage when she used to perform mixtape cuts alongside Wayne. For starters, she was far less jittery. “It’s funny, because I remember coming on, doing 30 seconds of ‘Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop’ [from Lil Wayne’s Da Drought 3 ],” Nicki recalled to MTV News. “I was nervous for 30 seconds, and then when I came back [on tour], I was doing three minutes. Now to have my own set, it’s crazy!” After the show, the Queens lyricist spoke about finally performing a full set of her own songs. “It’s the first time I get to show me: my theatrics, my craziness, my sense of humor. A lot of times when I was doing features, I didn’t feel that it was my place to kinda interject certain things. I don’t wanna be rude to anyone’s set.” On Wednesday, Nicki seized the opportunity, as she emerged from underneath the stage to begin her 30-minute slot. The rap bombshell thrilled fans as she ran through songs like “Roman’s Revenge,” “Right Thru Me” and the current single from her Pink Friday debut, “Moment 4 Life.” She even gave a male fan a lap dance while Sean Kingston’s “Letting Go” played through venue’s speakers. Even with all the excitement, Nicki promised that the show will only get better as the tour goes on. “It was exhilarating,” she said. “This is actually the first show, so what you saw tonight is nothing close to what the show is going to be.” Will you check out Lil Wayne’s I Am Still Music Tour?
