We all know what the Muppets did for Joe Biden , but what might a wincingly cute monster doll do for the new thriller Splice ? How about making it the most adorable bloodthirsty genetic freak in movie history? Seriously, as evinced by actress Delphine Chanéac at this week’s Los Angeles premiere, nothing beats a well-placed plush mutant — particularly one that grows up to become perhaps a little too intimate with its creators/default parents. Even Robert Downey Jr. showed up, and he was the second cuddliest creature on the carpet. OK — third cuddliest, after Joel Silver and Dren the Plush Monster. Where’s mine, Warners? [ IMDB ]

Empire State Building Jumper from Yale

Authorities have reported an apparent suicide as a 21-year-old man jumps off the Empire State Building. Currently, there are no suspects or reasons to believe that this is anything more than a suicide as the man seemed to have jumped off on his own. The Empire State Building Jumper is dead as he plunged to death from the Empire State Building. The man jumps off Empire State Building is said to be a student from Yale. It was near the Rockefeller center. It is not yet known if he spoke to anyone at the Empire State Building ( esb ) prior to jumping off to his death. The singer, who was joined on stage by Jay-Z , pre-taped performances that is scheduled to air on New Year’s Eve as part of NBC’s “New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly.” Covered from head to toe in a white fur coat, Rihanna took the stage before freezing fans a little after 7:30 p.m.

Senate Democrats reach tentative deal on public option

Senate Democrats reached a tentative deal on the public option Tuesday night. In exchange for dropping the contentious provision, medicare will be expanded for those of age 55+ (may start in 2011), a national insurance plan would be administered by the same federal agency that oversees the respected Federal Employees Health Benefits Program(the insurance options within that plan would be offered by private, nonprofit entities) and finally, a national public option would kick in if insurance companies did not meet certain coverage standards (aka a trigger)
