Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki are getting married! The golfer popped the question to the tennis star on New Year’s Eve and she said yes. Quite the ring she got out of the deal, too … “Happy New Year everyone!” the two-time major champion Tweeted. “I have a feeling it’s going to be a great year!! My first victory of 2014 #shesaidyes!! So much for the duo being on the rocks . Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy, collectively one of sports’ higher-profile couples, have endured a lot of scrutiny since they first got together. Unquestionably one of the best golfers in the world and with the expectations that go with that, Northern Ireland native Rory, 24, had a down year in 2013. Many associated this with his relationship with Caroline, 23, the pride of Denmark who once ranked number one in the world in tennis for 67 straight weeks. Some analysts not only blamed the romance for Rory’s slump after an astounding 2012, but implied that he can’t play his best and be with a high-profile athlete. The next big-time victory will silence all of that talk from the bored media, of course, but said victory has yet to materialize for either half of Wozzilroy. Neither enjoyed the level of athletic success last season that was on par with their previous performances, but they sure were cute and happy. Congratulations to the adorable couple on their engagement and we wish them both the best of luck in their respective sports as 2014 gets underway …

Here’s hoping the old saying about cats always landing on their feet is true … or the other adage about them having nine lives. This one may be down to eight. With two-thirds of the country covered in snow in this unusually chilly December, cats are up against it in the great outdoors. It’s pretty slippery out there! Still, we expect better than this epic fail. Watch what happens as one orange feline attempts to make the leap from the roof of a snow-covered car to the roof of the garage, only to lose its footing: “Ready, aim, jump, oh s–t!” While cats are known for their ninja-like agility and dexterity (they’ll choke-slam you if you kick snow in their faces ), ice knocks us all down a peg. In this case, tumbling down onto the hood of the car and into the abyss below, outside the camera’s range and never to be heard from again. We kid. He was probably fine. At least we hope so. In any case, analysis shows the gentle slope of the car’s roof was likely the poor fella’s undoing. Stuck in no man’s hand, he couldn’t get enough traction to really push off and reach the top of the garage, nor could he backtrack before it was too late. Old Man Winter 1, All Living Things 0.

Christian Slater married his girlfriend Brittany Lopez in an impromptu ceremony earlier this week. The couple has been together for over three years. Slater’s spokeswoman says the 44-year-old actor and Lopez tied the knot at the courthouse in Coral Gables, Fla. Congratulations to the happy newlyweds! The Heathers and True Romance star was previously married to Ryan Haddon. They have two children, a son, Jaden Christopher, and a daughter, Eliana. Christian Slater, an A-lister in the ’80s and ’90s, will star in the upcoming ABC series Mind Games , as well as director Lars von Trier’s film Nymphomaniac . Slater officially announced his engagement to Brittany Lopez back in February 2013 during an appearance on NBC’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon . “Congratulations, you’re engaged!” Jimmy Fallon said to Slater, who replied, “Yeah, that’s true,” before giving the show’s audience the thumbs-up. Slater said that he met Lopez when he was staying on Florida’s Little Palm Island a few years ago, and it was an unusual way to meet your future wife. “This girl came walking along with another lady, a slightly older lady, and I was sitting in my usual spot eating my oatmeal that morning,” he explained. “So I’m a filthy old man eating my oatmeal and she comes walking along. This spot, I guess, was famous for people proposing to each other, actually.” “It was very, very nice. So she’s there with this old lady and, next thing I know, she gets down on one knee and proposes to this older lady.” “I’d seen a lot of crazy stuff down in the Florida Keys!
