Ronnie Ortiz-Magro has many things to worry about these days beyond gym, tanning and laundry. The veteran Jersey Shore personality is instead concerned with personal responsibility, strong mental health and, above all, the well-being of his 10-month old daughter. This is what Ronnie has emphasized in his recent interview with Us Weekly, excerpts from which have been released often over the past few days. First, the reality star revealed that he just got out of rehab, having checked in to a facility for assistance with Depression and a dependence on alcohol. “I decided to go to treatment because I wanted to be a better person, a better father for my daughter,” the 33-year-old told this tabloid, explaining further: “Eventually, all the bad decisions I was making were going to lead me to places that I didn’t want to be. “I wanted to be led to the place that I am now — that’s happy, healthy and the best role model for my daughter.” Pretty admirable, right? The guy needed help — and he realized as much toward the end of filming on Jersey Shore: Family Vacation Season 2. “I just had to surrender and say, ‘I don’t have control over this.’ I don’t know who I am anymore. I don’t know what to do,” Ronnie said about how far he had recently fallen. One subject Ronnie has not talked about, however? Until now at least? His effed up relationship with Jen Harley. The two are parents to an adorable little girl named Ariana… but have viciously gone at it ever since she was born. There have been social media meltdowns, arrests and physical altercations as recently as New Year’s Eve. Where does the romance stand right now? Can Ronnie say he’s officially and fully done with the woman who allegedly hurled a glass ashtray at his face in December ? Nope. “She’s always going to be the mother of my child, at the end of the day,” Ronnie says , avoiding the question of whether they’re a couple right now and adding: “All I can do is control myself. I can’t control her, I can’t control my daughter. Well, for right now I can, but not when she gets older.” Well, sure. Of course Ronnie can’t literally control Harley. But he can control whether he keeps going back to her or not — and it certainly appears as if the two are not right for each other. If Ronnie were to truly commit to a non-romance, perhaps the tension would cease and he and Jen could find a way to peacefully co-exist as the co-parents of adorable Ariana. What about therapy or rehab for Harley? Would Ronnie suggest that to his tempermental, occasional partner? It sounds that way. But it’s not something Ortiz-Magro will say directly. “I hope that it encourages a lot of people, whether it’s her or people in my family, or my friends,” he tells Us Weekly of his decision, concluding for now: “I don’t want to be this person that’s this angry and resentful and just has so many regrets. “I want to be that positive person that people want to be around – joking, laughing and just having a good time and enjoying life.”
