Vienna Girardi: Jake is a Fame-Obsessed Liar!

Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi’s emotionally-charged reunion is still days away from hitting the small screen on The Bachelorette, and it’s already ugly. Taped last Thursday, the former couple’s combative, instantly infamous joint interview is set to air July 5, and some new, heated details have emerged. According to a new ABC press release, Vienna Girardi and Jake Pavelka acknowledge that their romance is unfixable, and proceed to exchange insults. Bachelor host-pimp Chris Harrison can only look on in awe. The Jake and Vienna Circus rolls on. [Photo: PacificCoastNewsOnline.com] The gist: Girardi tells Jake Pavelka he’s a “liar” and a “fame whore,” while Pavelka says she’s jealous and undermines him. The Bachelor stars argue about who initiated the breakup, and Girardi denies she cheated with Gregory Michael. At one point, the airhead Floridian bursts into tears and stomps off the set, while reports from witnesses say that an enraged Jake makes a fist at her. Another insider who observed the confrontation told Us Weekly that Pavelka “couldn’t get a word out – it was very reflective of their relationship .” Mediator Harrison often had to tell Girardi, “Vienna, let him talk.” But “Vienna was on the defense,” a source adds. “She was trying to play victim.” As we see it, we’re the true victims in all of this.

‘Knight And Day’: Run Time, By Kurt Loder

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz in an over-amped but underpowered spy tale. Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz in “Knight and Day” Photo: Twentieth Century Fox and Regency Enterprises Anyone who’s ever been trapped on a plane flight from Hell — squashed by sprawling seatmates, battered by passing backpacks, besieged by squalling brats — will appreciate the elegant simplicity of Tom Cruise’s solution to similar problems: He kills everybody. Literally. But then they were trying to kill him. Even the pilots. Which is why they’re dead, too. Emerging from the loo, Cameron Diaz is surprised to find that she and Tom are now alone, unless you count corpses as company. And she’s worried — the plane is diving fast. Tom will handle that. (“No need to panic.”) But then what? The answer to that question has been clear in every espionage-romance dating back at least to Hitchcock’s “The 39 Steps.” The answer is: Run! If only “Knight and Day” gave these two much else to do. Playing rogue CIA agent Roy Miller, Cruise deploys his smooth charm to ravishing effect — we’re reminded again of what a supple comic actor he can be. And as innocent bystander June Havens, Diaz, with her eager eyes and engulfing grin, is adorable throughout. But the script, by first-time screenwriter Patrick O’Neill, doesn’t have enough of the breezy wit that makes a classic spy-chase movie like “North by Northwest” so pleasurable. There are some good lines. (Noting that trouble-magnet Roy has been wounded at one point, June deadpans, “You have to go to the hospital. Prison, maybe.”) But director James Mangold (“Walk the Line”) is mostly intent on goosing the action along from one nifty set of stunts to the next. The stunts are pretty great — especially a heavy-damage highway chase (which seems fresher than usual here) and a wild escape through a Spanish bull-run stampede. But we miss the stylish downtime that would allow us to catch our breath. And we miss the romance. Cruise and Diaz have real chemistry, but the script doesn’t enable them to do much with it. (Although there is a cute moment when she wakes up in a bikini she wasn’t wearing when she passed out. Too bad this sexy tease doesn’t build into anything interesting.) In the traditional way, the story is a flimsy thing; and in the traditional way, that doesn’t matter. Roy is being chased by a team of his former CIA colleagues led by an inscrutable character named Fitzgerald (Peter Sarsgaard). Fitzgerald is convinced that Roy has lost his mind and absconded with an ultra-powerful device called the Zephyr. (“The biggest thing since the sun,” Roy says.) The determined spooks chase Roy and June — who has fallen into this mess by sheerest accident — from Boston to the Azores (where Roy maintains a private island) to Austria (look out for the assassin!) to the Spanish villa where an international arms dealer named Antonio (Jordi Moll

Jon Gosselin Smitten With Ellen Ross, Seeks Return to Television

Remember when Jon Gosselin tried to make sure his eight kids were kept off TV because, supposedly, he thought it was detrimental to their health? Yeah, that didn’t take. Largely because the only reason he did that was that TLC wanted to keep him off TV. He’d love to get back on screen, too. “It would be nice to have a job on television again,” he told Us Weekly . “I’m not so sure about reality. I’m just exploring my options right now.” “I’ve been meeting with certain people about different ideas. I can’t talk about it; you have to stay tuned.” Oh, you better believe that we will. As for rumors that Kate Gosselin may be getting a dating show? “I saw some stuff on the Internet about The Bachelorette , and I saw stuff about our own dating show, but our spokesperson says it’s not true,” he said. “At this point, I don’t really mix in her business. We talk about: ‘Hey, I’m going to pick up the kids at 2. Is there gas in the van? That kind of thing.” Ellen Ross is Jon’s latest girlfriend – and it’s going well . As for his own love life, Jon Gosselin said he couldn’t be happier with his Ellen Ross, 23, whom he met on a blind date and got along with right away. “We just kind of hit it off, backyard barbeques in Pennsylvania, hanging out, good times. She knew of me [and still] saw me as a normal person.” The relationship is “really different for me,” he added, noting that despite reports that she hates kids , she makes every effort to bond with his brood. “You have to find ways to occupy time, especially if it rains!” he said. “I was like, ‘What are we going to do?’ So she got Monopoly, board games.” Well played, Ellen Ross . Well played. On multiple levels. He says he’s taking their romance “day by day. I have a hard time talking about my personal life because of everything that happened last year.” “I just stray away from it. We just want to be left alone.” Just give him a new TV show, though. Please! Anyone?

‘Glee’ Yearbook Superlatives: We Name The Best Of The Season

The best Rachel solos to the most ridiculous story lines, we’re honoring the show’s breakout moments and stars. The cast of “Glee” Photo: FOX New Directions may not have won regionals on the season finale of “Glee,” but the misfits of McKinley High certainly gave their rivals a run for their money. And since they didn’t actually take the trophy, we’ve come up with our own way of honoring the hard-working Gleeks: Some yearbook-style superlatives that we feel perfectly sum up the first season. Best Music We’ve known Rachel could sing from the first note of “Les Miz,” but with so many numbers to choose from, it’s hard to decide which was her best. Mercedes also got a lot of solo time, but her greatest moment wasn’t the show-stopping “Dreamgirls” number you’d expect.

Rihanna Says Boyfriend Matt Kemp Keeps Her ‘Sane’

Pop star dishes about her current relationship and her past year in Elle magazine. By Mawuse Ziegbe Rihanna Photo: Michael Tran/ FilmMagic From the dramatic fashion statements to the sharp-edged radio hits Rihanna has evolved over the past year from pop princess to rock star. While last year her personal life was the source of much chronicled drama, the singer recently revealed that these days it’s her romance with boyfriend and L.A. Dodgers player Matt Kemp that keeps her grounded. “I have a boyfriend. I’m so happy. I feel really comfortable, and it’s so easy,” Rihanna gushes in the latest issue of Elle magazine. “I have such a chaotic life, but at the end of the day, that is just my peace. It keeps me sane, really, talking to him and talking to my family.” Rihanna has spent most of the past year reinventing herself as a boundary-pushing artist; abandoning her sunny pop jams and good-girl charm in favor of gritty hits and a highly stylized image. Earlier this week, “Love the Way You Lie,” her collaboration with Eminem that laments the torturous cycle of an abusive relationship, leaked to the Internet. And in the interview with Elle, the singer opened up about her emotional state over a year ago when she sustained the now infamously brutal attack at the hands of former boyfriend Chris Brown. “A year ago, I was very confused,” the star revealed to Elle. “Because he was my best friend. All of a sudden, one night changed our whole lives — not only our friendship, but our lives. I wanted to wake up one day and just not have that pain anymore. I wanted to be with him again or get over him — it was either-or. I just didn’t want to feel the pain, the confusion.” The superstar talked about the moody, black-and-white album art of Rated R, which she released in the wake of her “life-changing” experience with Brown. “I wanted pictures that represented strength and fearlessness but still femininity — a strong woman who can be vulnerable. Every woman is made up of vulnerability and strength; no matter what race you are, no matter what you’ve been through in your life.” After lighting up red carpets with her daring fashion choices, inspiring legions of girls to lop off their locks to match her evolving pixie cut, Rih Rih is known as much for her style as her sound. When it comes to designers, the star said she favors labels with an equally intrepid approach to fashion. “I respect designers who aren’t afraid to go outside of the box,” she said. “I went to a Jean Paul Gaultier show, and I saw girls who are thicker than me, beautiful and voluptuous and different ethnicities. That made me so excited. I thought, ‘OK, I can work that, for sure.’ ” What is your favorite of Rihanna’s recent looks? Let us know in the comments. Related Artists Rihanna

Lady Gaga’s ‘Alejandro’ Video Might Not Top ‘Telephone,’ But Why Should It?

Gaga may have reached a point in her career where not even she can top herself, in Bigger Than the Sound. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga in “Alejandro” Photo: Interscope Records Sometimes, being Lady Gaga must be a bummer. Take the Tuesday premiere of her much-anticipated “Alejandro” video : Though it features more odes to Brecht than a six penny opera and singlehandedly broke Twitter when it debuted, it’s being called a Madonna knockoff by some (check the comments on this Entertainment Weekly story ), “pretentious” by others (see the comments on this CNN.com piece ) and even a “disappointment” by some fans. While I don’t think those reactions are particularly warranted (or particularly fair), they prove what Gaga is up against these days. After a meteoric, improbable rise to the top of the pop universe, she may have finally reached the point in her career where not even she can top herself. It happens to all the greats — it’s just never happened this quickly. Case in point, people’s biggest qualm with “Alejandro” seems to be that it’s not “Telephone.” They complain that it’s long, redundant and self-indulgent — and all these things are funny to me, because they’re the same problems people had with “Telephone” when it was first released. Only now (in the span of just three short months), it’s viewed as her classic, the one against which all other Gaga clips shall be judged. Shoot, “Alejandro” doesn’t even have the product placement “Telephone” did (remember how much people raged about that ?), and yet folks are already rushing to bury it. Of course, the “Telephone” comparisons aren’t fair. After all, the videos have nothing in common aside from the fact that they were released consecutively. But they do carry some weight, because it’s entirely possible that that video represented Gaga at the absolute peak of her powers and abilities. After months of hype, it premiered live on E!. It stretched past the nine-minute mark. It was violent. Gratuitous. Insane. Not to mention awesome. Certainly the most memorable video in recent memory. People talked about it for weeks. Analyzed every frame. Debated its content. It was sensational. And a sensation. “Alejandro,” although a fine, arty and expensive-looking thing, drew the unenviable task of having to follow all that. Which is not to say that it’s not a great video, because it certainly is. And to that end, if any other artist released it, they would have been lauded as brilliant for breathing life back into music videos. But since it’s Gaga’s name at the top, “Alejandro” was greeted with muted applause, perhaps even a stifled yawn or two. This is what happens when you’re (arguably) the biggest pop star on the planet, and you’ve made a career out of titillating, tweaking and breaking boundaries. People are always going to be wondering what’s next. And eventually, well, you reach a point where nothing you do can top your last stunt. And, yes, I realize that the majority of Gaga’s “little monsters” positively loved “Alejandro.” But then again, they love everything she does. They don’t really count in the grand scheme of things. Take a look at the bigger picture. It really seems that, for the first time I can certainly remember, a fair amount of critics and fans — be they casual or die-hard — are willing to step forward and say that they were less-than-impressed. This is a key moment in Lady Gaga’s career. Short of setting herself on fire in her next video — probably something she’s considered — I don’t know what she can do for an encore. And even then, people will probably say she’s just doing the same thing she did in the “Bad Romance” video. It’s not really fair, nor is it justified, but one day after its premiere, for all its gloss and glamour, “Alejandro” is already looking like it could be Lady Gaga’s first shark-jumping, fridge-nuking moment. Perhaps even her first misfire. This is the downside to continually churning out jaw-dropping work. Eventually, the jaws just don’t drop as far as they used to. Gaga has spent the past two years becoming an international icon, the first truly massive star of the 21st century. Now, she might have to deal with the reality that she just can’t impress forever. Then again, let’s just wait three months for the premiere of her next music video — I can’t wait to hear what people will be saying about “Alejandro” then. Heavy is the head that wears the crown. Or steampunk-inspired harness. Whatever. Questions? Concerns? Hit me up at BTTS@MTVStaff.com . Related Photos The Evolution Of: Lady Gaga
