CBGB Biopic Adds Stars, Will Shoot in Georgia, Naturally

Casting news continues to trickle out for the film based on the wild life and times of CBGB, none of which is quite as eye-opening as word that the story of one of New York City’s most legendary, lamented live-music venues will be filmed largely in… Savannah, Georgia. So it goes! We get some stuntbozo driving a sportscar into a Sbarro for Jerry Bruckheimer, and Savannah gets Malin Åkerman as Debbie Harry , Rupert Grint as Cheetah Chrome, Joel David Moore as Joey Ramone, and Alan Rickman in the aforementioned role of club proprietor Hilly Kristal, all reviving the dawn of punk and new wave in the edgy metropolis where the Girl Scouts were founded Hollywood honchos go to self-immolate . Rock on, bitches : All of the movie’s interior shots will be done at Meddin Studios, which will be transformed to look like the iconic New York club, said director Randall Miller. “We’re going to build the interior of the club on the stages here,” Miller said. “Then the plan is we’ll do some shooting on the streets of downtown Savannah — and finally a few days in New York. “We’re using both Georgia and New York for New York,” he joked. “Savannah has a kind of downtown area that could really work for so many cities,” Miller said. “That translates pretty well in what we’re doing.” Fine, do what you’ve gotta do. By which I mean cast James Franco as Richard Hell already . [ The Strut , Savannah Morning News via EV Grieve ]

MTV Movie Awards’ Best Kiss Must Be ‘Powerful,’ Robin Thicke Says

‘You have to build up the tension, because the kiss is the release,’ crooner tells MTV News. By Fallon Prinzivalli Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” Photo: Summit Entertainment The Best Kiss award at the MTV Movie Awards is arguably the fans’ favorite category to vote on. For the past three years in a row, the honor has been bestowed upon “Twilight” co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart for their smooches as Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. This year, they’re up against some hefty competition: Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” Emma Watson and Rupert Grint in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum in “The Vow” and, their biggest opponents, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson in “The Hunger Games.” While the winner is anybody’s guess, we’re wondering which couple deserves the award. There’s no one better to answer our question than Robin Thicke, who’s managed to croon his way into the hearts of many ladies. The musician tells MTV News that the Best Kiss award should go to the most “powerful” smooch. “You have to build up the tension, because the kiss is the release,” the “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” singer said. “The kiss is the moment when the strings come in, and all of the danger and the anger and the frustration and the loss — the kiss becomes redemption. It takes you out of purgatory and into the gates of heaven. A kiss has to be that powerful, in my opinion.” If fans honor Thicke’s definition when they vote, it sounds like Hutcheron and Lawrence could take home the coveted golden popcorn. Their characters, Katniss and Peeta, are in danger while they’re stuck in a cave, she could lose him if he dies from his injuries, and he’s frustrated and angry that she wants to head into the bloodbath of the Cornucopia to save him. With a single kiss, all that tension is released. Sounds like they’re a shoe-in, right? You decide! The power is in your hands. Vote now through Saturday, June 1, at MovieAwards.MTV.com , and stay tuned for more Movie Awards coverage right here on MTV News! Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET. Who gets your vote for Best Kiss? Share your pick below! ‘Harry Potter’ Stars Miss ‘Family’ Atmosphere

‘I miss hanging out with the guys,’ actor Oliver Phelps tells MTV News at Wizarding World of Harry Potter event. By Josh Wigler Rupert Grint Photo: MTV News ORLANDO, Florida — ” Harry Potter ” fans, you’re not the only ones who adore Daniel Radcliffe , Emma Watson and the rest of the Hogwarts gang. The film series’ co-stars share your feelings. When MTV News visited the Wizarding World of Harry Potter’s celebration of the ” Deathly Hallows Part 2 ” DVD and Blu-ray release, we asked your favorite actors what they miss most about working on the eight-film fantasy epic. The answers we received were unanimous: the “Potter” cast miss one another. “I miss hanging out with the guys,” lamented Oliver Phelps, one-half of the hilarious Weasley twins. “A Harry Potter film isn’t like a normal movie. It’s stretched out for nine months, it’s big-budget … but we’d all just have fun, though. It’s not like there’s all this stress to do anything. I miss hanging out with everyone all the time. But we still keep in contact and I know we’ll continue to do that.” “It was a really nice atmosphere,” agreed Jesse Cave, who played Ron Weasley’s obsessive stalker Lavender Brown. “And I’ve worked in some horrible atmospheres. This was like being on a holiday. It was nice to be treated nice!” For actors Devon Murray and Alfie Enoch, who starred in all eight “Potter” movies as Gryffindor supporting players Seamus Finnigan and Dean Thomas, respectively, leaving the franchise behind was like saying goodbye to family. “It was a real family, to use a clich

Harry Potter’s Warwick Davis on Wand Choreography, George Lucas and What He Won’t Miss About Potter

Even though you may not immediately recognize the name Warwick Davis, you are familiar with his work. That’s because the English actor has been involved with two of the most storied franchises in all of film history — the first being Star Wars , where Davis made his onscreen debut as Wicket in Return of the Jedi at the tender age of 13. Nearly three decades (and title roles in Willow and the six-part Leprechaun series) later, Davis helps close the door on the Harry Potter franchise, where he has played Hogwarts charms master Professor Flitwick and Gringotts goblin Griphook for 10 years.

Rupert Grint Plays My Favorite Scene: Harry Potter Edition

This weekend, most of the Harry Potter cast and filmmakers flew down to Universal Orlando’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter to fête the home release of Deathly Hallows — Part 2 , the final installment in the film series based on J.K. Rowling’s beloved books. At a Potter-themed party in Hogsmeade Village Saturday night — complete with a performance by the frog choir, endless rounds of butter beer served by wizards and fireworks — franchise star Rupert Grint took a moment to play a round of ‘My Favorite Scene’ with Movieline.

Rupert Grint Got His Harry Potter Part the Hard Way

Ah, memories: “I was a fish in Noah’s ark in the school play, and now I’m in Harry Potter. It’s a big step. I first found out about the auditions in Newsround. They said to send in some information about yourself and a photograph. So I sent one in and waited weeks and weeks and weeks, and nothing happened. I really wanted this part because I was the biggest Harry Potter fan at the time. I went on the website of Newsround, and some of the kids had been sending in videotapes of themselves reading from the book. So I made a videotape. First, I dressed up as my drama teacher, who’s a girl, so that was kind of scary. Then I made this rap song of how much I wanted to be in the film.” [ Moviefone ]
