The sun is warming your melanin skin and you are surrounded by lots of other party goers ready for a good time. You hop from boat to boat, partying, drinking, connecting. The music is blaring, the drinks are flowing, you are surrounded by paradise. While there is fun in Croatia, beauty in Greece, and you can never go wrong with Montenegro, Kelsy Horton realized there was a major miss for people of color: no Yacht Week focused on an African or Black experience. Thus, three years ago, Yacht Week East Africa was born. Talk about sailing for the culture! Source: Alexandra Wontorra / EyeEm / Getty This Yacht Week sets sail in the Seychelles where guests can spend two days on land learning about the Seychelles and experiencing the culture prior to setting sail. There are options for attendees to sight see, go shopping and learn more about the islands. During the actual sailing experience, there are options as well. Guests will be able to go on a tropical rainforest hike, snorkel, fish, bike riding, exploring and more. It’s more than just a boat and water! Source: Courtesy of Yacht Week East Africa / YachtWeekEA.com We caught up with Kelsy Horton, Founder and Host of Yacht Week East Africa , who got candid with us regarding why he started East Africa Yacht Week, things you need to know, and more. Starting a business can be daunting, what placed Horton up for the task? He told Hello Beautiful , “I started Yacht Week East Africa to provide an Afrocentric alternative to the sailing events that take place in Europe and the Americas. I also wanted to showcase the beauty and culture of East Africa, which is under the radar for many people.” Source: Courtesy of Yacht Week East Africa / YachtWeekEA.com In addition to East Africa being under the radar for many people, sailing isn’t something that Black people are culturally involved in on a large basis. Horton has been sailing since he was a child, “My first sail took place when I was a kid in Chicago, on the waters of Lake Michigan,” he shared with Hello Beautiful. How he got from sailing to a kid to running a yacht week was a little more complex. “In 2015, I moved to Tanzania, which sits on the Indian Ocean, and has a strong sailing community. I started sailing with friends for birthday parties, when guests were in town, and other special occassions. It was at this point that sailing became one of my passions.” Source: Courtesy of Yacht Week East Africa / YachtWeekEA.com And passionate he is! Horton is hosting three different trips in 2019. Currently, there is room to register for two more trips occurring in September and October. The first one is August 30th to September 8th, 2019 and the second one is October 11th – October 20th, 2019. Anyone can attend! Horton shared, “We celebrate Black culture and we welcome anyone from any background to join us.” If you are worried that you can’t swim, don’t be. Horton assured, “You don’t need to know how to swim to attend Yacht Week East Africa. Swiming during the event is totally optional.” Just wear a floatie girl and get ready to slay some serious beach photos! Source: Courtesy of Yacht Week East Africa / YachtWeekEA.com If you are someone that has been to other Yacht Weeks and wondering what makes this one different, Horton reveals, “in addition to sailing, beautiful beaches, and partying, our emphasis on culture and cuisine separates us from the rest. Our sailing locations are also off of the beaten path.” So yes, you will have a one of a kind experience with unique photos focused on our culture. While personally, I have never been to East Africa, Horton was able to help me understand what makes this region so special. “East Africa calms your spirit and is good for your soul.” He boldly boasts, “There’s a strong change that East Africa is more beautiful than your favorite vacation spot.” Wow! He also adds that “the people are extremely welcoming and the culture is very accommodating,” which is also a plus for people traveling while Black. Source: Courtesy of East Africa Yacht Week / EastAfricaYachtWeek.com I was looking through images and the company’s Instagram page and I noticed one thing: there were so many Black women in attendance! It made me wonder if Horton was focused on our demographic and behold, he is most definitely catering to Black women. (Come on, Black man!). “There is something that is very appealing about a beautiful woman in her best swimsuit, laid out on a yacht in the middle of the ocean without a care in the world,” he swoons. What makes this trip so attractive to us? Horton explains, “Add a beautiful backdrop like the Seychelles, plus the fact that the event is curated with them in mind, and our Sisters are ready to sign up!” Source: Courtesy of Yacht Week East Africa / YachtWeekEA.com As mentioned, the company has been around for only three years; however, they are already thinking of expansion. Horton is looking closely at routes in other countries as well as land-based events in Tanzania and Kenya. He tells us to “stay tuned!” …and we are. We end our interview with Horton encompassing Yacht Week East Africa, “It is for us, by us, and we sail for the culture.” Source: Courtesy of Yacht Week East Africa / YachtWeekEA.com You can find out more about Yacht Week East Africa on their website, here . Currently, you have until February 28th, 2019 to book for the August/September or October trip. Get on it! Rosie Huntington-Whitely for Self of the Day

Shape Magazine is usually a magazine that features girls who aren’t actually in shape, in a studio setting, that they photoshop to shit…in efforts to make them look like they are in shape…because if they didn’t do that…and if you saw how out of shape most of the people they feature are…it would be pretty hard to call yourself shape…especially because the out of shape famous people sell magazines in an era when nothing sells magazines… As a reference point…Shape has had Oprah on the cover… Oh fuck…this is SELF Magazine…forget everything I just wrote…and remember that Rosie Huntington-Whitely is not Oprah…and she is amazing..while Sailing…or while posing in lingerie…or while naked for fashion editorials…or while starring in Michael Bay movies that require no real talent…She’s one of my favorites…and I’m not even a bald dude into girls who have dated bald dudes…because they give me hope…I just like her look…especially while pulling that sail between her legs..what a slut.. China’s Coast Under Siege By Massive Algae Slick

Soldiers struggle to clean the Qingdao coast during a similar algae bloom in 2008. Image credit: AP Photo/Ng Han Guan Qingdao, China, is famous for its temperate sea air and “Tsingtao” beer but, during the summer, the gentle coast becomes a fertile bed for massive, smelly, algae blooms. The last major bloom occurred in 2008 and threatened the sailing competitions of the Beijing Olympics. This year, another bloom as blossomed—and has grown by 50 percent in less than a week…. Owl City’s Adam Young Calls Sky Sailing Project ‘A Dream Come True’

‘I can’t tell you what it means for people to want to hear the Sky Sailing songs,’ Young tells MTV News. By James Montgomery Owl City Photo: Universal Republic Adam Young never dreamed people would want to hear the songs he made under his Owl City moniker, let alone the ones he made before that. And yet, thanks to the startling success of the song “Fireflies,” and Owl City’s Ocean Eyes album , he’s now getting the chance to release those early tunes — which he recorded as Sky Sailing — and, much like everything that’s happened since OC broke, he can’t really believe his luck. “Initially, these were just ideas that I had in my head that I wanted to get out,” Young told MTV News on Friday (June 18). “I had no plans other than making a MySpace page and maybe letting my friends hear [the songs]. Fortunately, Owl City took off, and they had to take a backseat. But I’m really excited to have people hear them now.” The songs collected on Sky Sailing’s An Airplane Carried Me to Bed (due July 27) were actually recorded back in summer 2007, well before Owl City became the phenomenon it is today. And now that he’s officially between OC albums, Young figured he’d revisit the songs, “re-polish them” (as he put it) and let his legions of fans have a listen. “It’s a bit ironic in terms of a timeline, because Sky Sailing took on its own form and shape before Owl City was ever conceptualized,” Young said. “A few months after I had recorded them, I started to write synth-pop songs that were different from the acoustic stuff I was doing with Sky Sailing. So it was pretty clear early on that there were going to be two avenues and two projects. I just didn’t know if this one would ever be heard.” And with Bed just around the corner, and a new Owl City record currently in pre-production, Young really can’t believe much of anything going on in his life these days, but he’s pretty happy they are. “Really, everything that’s happened, and is happening, I can’t believe it for a second. I never imagined any of my songs would have done what they’ve done,” he said. “And I can’t tell you what it means for people to want to hear the Sky Sailing songs, either. It’s a dream come true. It’s a priceless feeling.” Will you check out the upcoming Sky Sailing album? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Owl City

Legal ruling delays 14-year-old’s attempt to sail solo round the world

Dutch court extends supervision order for Laura Dekker, who is a ward of the state, amid concerns for her safety A Dutch court has extended a supervision order on a 14-year-old girl, further delaying her quest to become the latest and youngest teenager to sail solo around the world. Laura Dekker was made a ward of the state last year amid concerns that her plan to set sail aboard her small yacht would endanger her physical and social welfare. She was 13 at the time. The decision comes after 16-year-old Abby Sunderland had to be rescued in the Indian Ocean after a similar attempt last week, prompting widespread criticism of her parents for allowing her to undertake such a dangerous journey alone. Sunderland’s voyage ended when waves snapped her mast, prompting a 20-hour international rescue operation. In Holland, Dekker has taken on an intense period of training to try to convince the authorities she is capable of completing the journey, her lawyer Peter de Lange told the court. She has passed a first aid diploma, become accustomed to lack of sleep and arranged to do schoolwork online. But the court in the southern Dutch city of Middelburg ruled that she should remain under state supervision for at least another month. Social workers had asked for a two-month extension of the order. Under the conditions of the ruling, Dekker has been allowed to live at home but her parents have had to consult child protection authorities about all major decisions. Dekker lives with her father, who is encouraging her record-breaking plans, while her mother has objected. The couple are separated. Last December, out of apparent frustration at the court order, Dekker fled alone to the Dutch Caribbean island of St Maarten. When she returned two days later, she was interviewed by the police. The unofficial record for the youngest round-the-world sailor belongs to 16-year-old Australian Jessica Watson , who completed her voyage last month.
