Islamophobia-obsessed Media Silent on Anti-Semitic Hate Crimes at Indiana U

Most Americans are probably unaware that Jews were the victims of more than eight times as many anti-religion hate crimes last year as were Muslims. And the reason is simple: anti-Muslim crimes receive far more media attention. Case in point: the media has been all but silent on a slew of anti-Semitic acts of vandalism at Indiana University, coinciding with the beginning of the celebration of Hanukkah (h/t Stephen Richer ): read more

A Heavy Dose of Pro-Obama Books (and Insider Favors) on the New York Times Top 100 Books List

Typically, The New York Times has released its annual book reviewers' list of the 100 Most Notable Books of 2010 , and they favor liberal authors, and most helpfully, current and former staffers of the New York Times. For people who may buy Christmas gifts or make Christmas lists based on this top-books list, Obama is still the hero. The Times recommended both The Bridge by David Remnick, editor of The New Yorker, and The Promise: Year One by Newsweek columnist Jonathan Alter, not to mention leftist Salon writer Rebecca Traister's book Big Girls Don't Cry: The Election That Changed Everything for American Women. The Times calls it “A colorful, emotional argument that 2008 gave feminism a thrilling 'new life.'” With Michelle Obama growing vegetables?

Leighton Meester Smells Delicious

I’m just assuming that Leighton Meester smells good, I don’t really know for sure, but she’s got something to do with Herbal Essence shampoo now so I can’t be far off. I’m going to have to buy some of this crap now to keep under my pillow so it feels like I’m sleeping next to someone with nice smelling hair. I guess that means I don’t have to buy anymore hair clippings from the salon around the corner to use as stuffing for my pillows. It’s probably for the best, they were beginning to creep me out with their strange looks anyway.

Willow Palin: Cyberbully or Immature Teen?

Willow Palin used homophobic slurs on Facebook, but some bloggers asked whether that makes her a cyberbully or just an immature 16-year-old. The Huffington Post rounds up reactions from bloggers including Slate’s Emily Bazelon, Andrew Sullivan at The Atlantic, and Salon’s Mary Elizabeth Williams. Sullivan, a gay conservative, took the harshest line against the posts, and wondered what they say about the Palin family. “Using the word gay to mean lame as an adjective is a different thing than calling a young man a ‘faggot.’ Willow is 16 years' old,” wrote Sullivan. “Who taught her to use language like that? And the excuse from the Palins? Not disciplining or an apology – but a defense: A source connected to the Palin family tells TMZ that Willow doesn't usually use this kind of language, but she felt like she and her family were being attacked.” Bristol, Willow's older sister, apologized for the posts Wednesday on Facebook. added by: TimALoftis

Hardball: Beck’s ‘Bandwagon of Bigotry and Fear’ Kind of Like KKK

On Tuesday, NewsBusters identified the media’s emerging strategy of discrediting Glenn Beck by pitting his religious beliefs against other Christians. Mere hours later, as if on cue, MSNBC was all over it. “Hardball” host Chris Matthews invited on liberal Salon editor Joan Walsh and Democratic strategist Bob Shrum, two people who are something less than experts on the religious right, to help him psychoanalyze conservatives. Their conclusion was all too predictable: Beck’s rhetoric is harmful to Catholics and smacks of anti-Papal Klan rallies. It has now been established by the media that Mormons like Beck are anti-evangelical, anti-Catholic, and possibly just plain anti-Christian. Prepare yourself for liberals who bash conservative Christians at every turn to suddenly care about Christians getting bashed (video below with partial transcript): BOB SHRUM, DEMOCRATIC STRATEGIST: Yes, that used to be the rule. But Beck himself clearly is riding a bandwagon of bigotry and fear to gather millions of followers and millions of dollars. He`s made anti-Muslim remarks. He`s made remarks about the president that are certainly tinged with racial overtones. So why wouldn`t he associate with an anti-Catholic? CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: OK, let me get to the roots of this because a lot of this stuff going on on the right has its roots, Joan — and you know, Bob, well — back in the old roots, way back with the “no nothings,” the KKK, the nativists. There`s a smell to this commentary by Hagee, which is anybody that has their religious vaguely from Europe or somewhere else or from Rome, that somehow, it`s bad, it`s un-American. It`s the old nativist cry against the newcomer. But we thought this was sort of dying off somewhere during World War II, when, you know, several million Catholics were fighting the bad guys. We thought this was over with, you and I and Bob. Apparently, it`s still going on with Hagee and his new buddy, Glenn Beck. JOAN WALSH, SALON: Well, you know, I`ve seen this in the mosque debate, as well. We know that, you know, our ancestors, and not very far back, Chris, our very right to participate in public life was questioned because we were supposedly, you know, the subjects of a foreign power, the pope. And so, you know, there`s been a lot of this in right-wing politics for a long time. There have been a lot of battles, and many Catholics have felt, frankly, unwelcome in the Christian right. The other thing, though, that Beck is trying to do here is to unite the Tea Party with the Christian right — MATTHEWS: Right. WALSH: — which has felt a little bit excluded by the Tea Party. If you look at polls, Tea Partiers are less into the Christian right than they are into, say, big business. And it`s been — MATTHEWS: Yes. WALSH: There`s been a little bit of waning of their power, so that`s the other thing that went on on Saturday. It was a dark day when Catholics were discouraged from civil activity because of religious beliefs, and liberals like Walsh will be sure to explain that while attacking civil activists over their religious beliefs. Would that pro-life Catholics were treated with such kid gloves at MSNBC. Or does religious sensitivity only apply to the liberal variety?

Chris Matthews – ‘Obama is Almost Perfect’; Joan Walsh – ‘He’s the American Dream’

Chris Matthews almost got another tingle up his leg on national television Tuesday talking about how wonderful Barack Obama is. So did Salon’s Joan Walsh, In the opening segment of “Hardball,” the host and his perilously liberal guests concluded by trying to figure out why conservatives don’t like the current White House resident. In the end, and sadly predictable, the conclusion was the color of Obama’s skin. But before that, the sycophantic praise and exultation for the object of their affection was literally breathless (video follows with transcript and commentary): CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: It’s about being an American, and the wonderful thing about this country is you can grow up to be basically what, you know, it’s a Great Gatbsy country, you can actually create your own identity and become a person. This guy Barack Obama, not to get too basic about it, did everything right. JOAN WALSH, SALON: Yes. MATTHEWS: He studied hard in school. He obeyed the law. He raised a family. He took care of his family. He was an excellent student. He was on the Harvard Law Review. He did everything. He went through the democratic process. He didn’t go out and make a lot of money on Wall Street. He gave himself to his community. This guy is almost pluperfect and they don’t like him. WALSH: He is the American dream. He lived it, he embodies it, and somehow he did something wrong, I don’t know what it is, but it is a little to do with the color of his skin. MATTHEWS: He didn’t show up at Glenn Beck’s House of Love, or whatever it is. BOB SHRUM: They might have made him sit in the back row. Did you hear Matthews almost panting when Walsh called Obama the American dream? Makes you wonder if studio assistants had to come in and give him a sponge-bath during the commercial break.

Kim Kardashian After-Wax Face of the Day

Here are some pictures of Kim Kardashian leaving the salon where she reportedly “Indulges in gettting waxes” because ethnic girls tend to be hairy as fuck, especially when they are jacked with male hormones like this bitch, at least that’s what her face wants us to believe and I guess this is just is another example of useless bullshit pieces of information I don’t need to know in my life…even if there was a period in my life that I was envious of bikini waxers cuz of all the pussy they got to see and I went so far as to apply for a job as a waxer without any formal training because of all the pussy they got to see before realizing that hairy pussy on fat bitches may never get boring, but can get messy, especially with the law suits that come when I start using my mouth instead of wax on them, cuz really I have no standards….but for some reason thinking about Kim Kardashian’s hairy black cock filled pussy getting ravaged by asians doesn’t really turn me on…especially when I know she was getting her mustache waxed and they just spun the story on me but I guess it’s not about me, but about you…so enjoy using your imagination on this one…since bitch doesn’t need to degrade herself and post the video of the shit like she used to…She’s changed for the worse. Fame’s really made her dull….

Kim Kardashian’s Industrial Strength Leggings

I was on high camel toe alert this morning when I found these pictures of Kim Kardashian leaving the salon in her tight leggings, but so far I don’t see anything. I’m still amaze she can stuff her big ass into these kind of thing. She must get some sort of military grade spandex shipped in from Indonesia to make them. I bet the stitching is made of Kevlar . Whatever they’re made of, I like it. Now turn around and show daddy your money maker.

Salon Writer Wants More Abortion on TV

What does Salon think American TV needs more of? Abortion, and lots of it. In a July 20 “Broadsheet” article , Salon writer Mary Elizabeth Williams addressed Fox’s decision to release the highly controversial “Family Guy” abortion episode as a stand-alone DVD feature this September. Williams crassly compared the comedy show’s efforts to make money off a “Banned From TV” episode to “having an abortion and getting your baby too.” The episode’s controversy revolved around character Lois Griffin questioning whether to go through with a pregnancy as a surrogate mother for a couple who died in a car crash. Williams used the network’s move as a springboard for her real complaint: the lack of abortion on American airwaves. Williams called TV a “timid” medium for “barely” discussing abortion, saying it was “insane” that TV could introduce viewers to the Dharma Initiative in “Lost” but couldn’t confront the “legally acceptable procedure” of abortion. Aside from the “Family Guy” episode, Williams mentioned 10 shows that “managed to slip” abortion through to viewers but criticized their evasive treatment of reproductive choice, with the exception of “Friday Night Lights.” Not surprisingly, Williams joined the flock of media that praised “FNL,” noting how “encouraging” the show was in its inclusion of “sensitivity and mixed feelings” for abortion. Meanwhile, Williams disparaged the other shows for giving their characters a change of heart towards abortion. After mentioning abortion scenes on “Sex and the City” and “Felicity,” Williams mockingly portrayed the characters’ sudden pro-life decisions as “last-minute realization(s) of the magic of motherhood.”
