Andy Samberg Marries Joanna Newsom!

Andy Samberg has a new TV show and, even more importantly, a new wife. The Brooklyn Nine-Nine star exchanged vows yesterday with Joanna Newsom, exchanging vows with his beautiful fiancee at the Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, California. “So far, it’s been nothing but stress and joy,” Samberg, who proposed in February, told Ryan Seacrest earlier in the week. “The joy is the lady herself. The stress is the planning. We tried to go small and it was just impossible. There’s too many relatives, too many friends.” But we’re sure it was all very much worthwhile in the end. We send our very best wishes to these newlyweds!

Andy Samberg Says His ‘SNL’ Departure Is ‘Open-Ended’

‘Something will get decided over the summer,’ Samberg tells MTV News during Movie Awards Sneak Peek Week. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Jim Cantiello and Josh Horowitz Andy Samberg Photo: MTV News Now that Kristen Wiig has officially left “Saturday Night Live,” many fans are wondering what the deal is with Andy Samberg and Jason Sudeikis, who are both rumored to be leaving the show ahead of its fall season premiere. It seems that fans will have to wait a bit longer to find out. When MTV News caught up with Samberg during MTV Sneak Peek Week, where he sat down to chat about his new film, “That’s My Boy,” he explained that he’s got some time before he needs to give boss Lorne Michaels his two weeks’ notice. “You know, I’ve just been focusing on the movie and all this stuff,” he explained to MTV News. “I haven’t talked to Lorne about it yet. Something will get decided over the summer. We’ll see. No matter what, it’s been a dream come true working there for me.” “I don’t know yet. But it was a fun season,” he later added during his Sneak Peek chat. “It was a crazy finale. Mick Jagger and Arcade Fire and Foo Fighters. It’s open-ended at this time.” Samberg, who hosted the MTV Movie Awards in 2009, sat down with MTV News ahead of this year’s show. Andy Samberg Confirms Saturday Night Live Departure

Confirming rumors that have been circulating for months, and which were punctuated by his performance of Lazy Sunday 2 on the Saturday Night Live season finale last month, Andy Samberg has confirmed that he’s exiting the iconic sketch show. “It’s an incredibly emotional and strange moment in my life,” Samberg told The New York Times yesterday in a telephone interview. “Obviously it’s not a huge shock, but I did officially decide not to come back.” Samberg joined SNL in 2005 and went on to become the master of the Digital Short. He can also do a mean impression of Nicholas Cage. Referring to this move as “one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made,” the comedian will next be seen alongside Adam Sandler in this summer’s That My Boy . His depature follows that of Kristen Wiig, who was given an emotional send-off on that same season finale.

Adam Sandler’s ‘That’s My Boy’ A ‘Dream Come True’ For Cast

Andy Samberg, Ciara and crew weigh in on teaming up for a Sandler comedy, during Movie Awards Sneak Peek Week. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz The cast of “That’s My Boy” Photo: MTV News Whether he’s going back to school, tapping in golf balls or hanging out with his fellow grown-ups, Adam Sandler knows how to bring the laughs. He’s especially hilarious when he’s allowed to deliver his fair share of F-bombs, which he does rather liberally in “That’s My Boy,” his new comedy about a disgraced father — that’s Sandler — trying to reconnect with his son, played by “Saturday Night Live” comedian Andy Samberg. It’s a ridiculous premise, sure; Sandler’s only 12 years older than Samberg, after all. But that doesn’t make working on “That’s My Boy” anything less of a dream come true for Samberg. As part of our Sneak Peek Week leading up to the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday (June 3), Samberg and his “That’s My Boy” co-stars joined together onstage to praise the work of Sandler, one of the Lonely Island frontman’s comedy heroes. “It was awesome to work on this,” he said. “It was a full-tilt dream come true for me to be asked to do it.” Co-star Will Forte agreed, saying, “It was such a wonderful set, because Adam, who’s also one of my comedy heroes, tells you exactly what he wants, then he lets you discover stuff on your own too. He points you in the right direction. He’s so amazing to work with.” Amazing, yes, but vulgar too. Make no mistake: “That’s My Boy” is a hard R packed to the gills with beer, bongs, boobs and bad language. “It is a dirty movie. It’s a raunchy movie,” Forte said. “If you’ve seen previews for the movie, then you have no idea what it’s about, because they need to take five seconds here and five seconds there. … It’s a dirty movie.” It’s not just comedy veterans like Sandler, Samberg and Forte who get dirty in “That’s My Boy” either. Even Grammy-nominated singer Ciara was allowed to get in on the fun, and she said she’s walking away from the Sandler experience with a desire to pursue further acting adventures. “It was so much fun. This crew is so hilarious,” she said. “From this experience, I want to do so much more. I’m determined to do more.” As for what Samberg took away from working with Ciara? “She taught me so many dance moves,” he quipped. Exclusive ‘That’s My Boy’ Clip: Hot For Teacher

Andy Samberg and his co-stars present the clip during Sneak Peek Week, leading up to this Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards. By Kara Warner Justin Weaver in “That’s My Boy” Photo: Columbia Pictures Are you ready for the raunchiest, most inappropriate-yet-hilarious father/son comedy of the year? Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg are hoping so with Sandler’s first-ever R-rated comedy, “That’s My Boy.” MTV News premiered the film as part of our second annual Sneak Peek Week ahead of the 2012 MTV Movie Awards , and a slew of the film’s stars were on hand to help present an exclusive clip to the lucky audience: Samberg, Vanilla Ice, Will Forte, Ciara, Milo Ventimiglia and Eva Amurri. The film revolves around deadbeat dad Donny (Sandler), who got his teacher pregnant when he was just a teenager and raised his son Han Solo Berger (Samberg) as a single parent until Han turned 18. After a financial mishap, Donny reappears in Han’s life on the eve of his wedding. As Donny tries desperately to reconnect with his son, who has changed his name to Todd, Donny must face the consequences of his terrible parenting. The clip provides the background — or an explanation of sorts — for how teenage Donny ended up sleeping with his teacher. In a nutshell, the teacher started it. We see teenage Donny (Justin Weaver) sitting in what appears to be detention for writing an inappropriate note about his teacher (Amurri), who asks if he has a crush on her. Donny looks visibly uncomfortable with the question, particularly after she says, “So, you don’t want me?” and takes her hair out of a ponytail and twirls it around her fingers. “No!” says Donny. “Yeah? I don’t know what I’m supposed to say right now!” “Is that gum in your mouth, Donny?” she asks, putting her hand in front of Donny’s mouth so he can spit the gum out, which naughty teacher puts into her mouth and begins to chew. As is the case with many a Sandler comedy, the scene is both funny and gross at the same time. If you enjoyed the clip, don’t miss the rest of our Sneak Peek Week action with stars from “Magic Mike” and “Rock of Ages,” all leading up to the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards live on Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET. Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudeikis And Andy Samberg: What’s After ‘SNL’?

While it will be a big loss for the show, we think all three can move on to strong careers. By John Mitchell Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudeikis and Andy Samberg Photo: Getty Images The news that Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudeikis and Andy Samberg may leave “Saturday Night Live” at the end of the current season has fans wondering why their favorite stars are looking to jump and how they’ll fare once they’ve departed the safety of the sketch-comedy institution to pursue TV and movie stardom. Neither Sudeikis nor Samberg has commented on the rumors , but on Alec Baldwin’s podcast Monday, Wiig did address the departure talk, though she neither confirmed nor denied the chatter. “I don’t know,” Wiig told Baldwin when asked if her tenure as one of the most beloved “SNL” performers was nearly up. “Everyone has to leave … and I will say that when I do leave, it’s not because I’m sick of it and not because I see something better or anything like that. It’s just that it’s time. When I do leave, it will be the hardest thing.” While some “SNL” performers have had shaky post-show careers, plenty have had great success, and there’s no reason to think Wiig, Samberg and Sudeikis won’t do the same. All three have plenty of projects lined up and a history of behind-the-scenes work that makes us think they’ll be just fine. Let’s take a look at what these three have cooking: Kristen Wiig Wiig is arguably the biggest star of the current “SNL” cast. She’s been on the show for nearly seven years and has received three Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy nominations for her performance on the show. Her characters Gilly and the Target Lady and her impersonations of Kathie Lee Gifford, Nancy Pelosi and Taylor Swift are among the show’s most well-known. If she does leave, it will be a major loss for the show, but like Wiig told frequent “SNL” host Baldwin, “Everyone has to leave.” Like many successful comediennes before her, Wiig honed her comic talents as a performer and writer with the Groundlings comedy troupe. The latter talent served her particularly well last year, earning her an Oscar nomination for co-writing the screenplay to her hit film “Bridesmaids,” which grossed nearly $170 million in the US. Perhaps in preparation for her inevitable “SNL” departure, she’s recently been taking on dramatic parts — as in the just released “Friends With Kids” and the upcoming “Freezing People Is Easy” — and even her planned laughers skew away from the screwball comedy where she made her name, including “Imogene,” about a playwright who stages a suicide to win back her ex but ends up in the custody of her gambling-addict mother, and “The Comedian,” which will be directed by Sean Penn and co-star Robert De Niro. Prediction : Pretty, smart and an undeniable double threat, Wiig will be just fine. She’s got a long list of promising projects in the works, indicating that while she’s already a household name, she’s probably set for even bigger things. Jason Sudeikis Like Wiig, Sudeikis is currently enjoying a surge of interest from the film community. While his recent “Good Old Fashioned Orgy” was a miss, Sudeikis found modest box-office success with the comedy “Hall Pass” and scored an even bigger smash last summer with “Horrible Bosses,” which was a $117 million-grossing hit in the U.S. and pulled in another $92 million overseas. Sudeikis has found himself in some pretty ideal company if he’s looking to launch a long-term career in big-screen comedies. He already has “The Campaign,” co-starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis, in the can, as well as a still-untitled short-film compilation (think “Paris, je t’aime”) that co-stars, in some fashion, everyone from Kate Winslet and Hugh Jackman to Elizabeth Banks and Emma Stone. The actor is also carving out quite a TV niche, appearing regularly on HBO’s acclaimed “Eastbound & Down” and as a voice on the animated “Cleveland Show.” Prediction : Sudeikis’ reputation for being easy to work with should not be underestimated here. Comedians are notoriously touchy subjects, so it’s not surprising that his easygoing nature has quickly made him a go-to for directors looking for a handsome funny guy. And let’s face it: There will always be a role for the handsome funny guy. But if he wants to prove himself to be more than a one-trick pony, he needs to take on a dramatic role in the near future. Might we suggest an ensemble pic from a director like Paul Thomas Anderson, Steven Soderbergh or David O. Russell? That way, if he’s good, critics will call him a “scene stealer,” but if he’s not great, he would blend into the background. Andy Samberg Samberg’s departure is perhaps the biggest risk of the three “SNL” castmembers reportedly looking to fly the coop. Unlike Wiig and Sudeikis, he has not been the lead or major featured player in a successful film. Indeed, he’s been a supporting player in a number of misfires and is a hard sell as a leading man. He’s going to make a go of it with the upcoming Sundance Film Fest crowd pleaser “Celeste and Jesse Forever,” and there seems to be a lot of interest in his upcoming summer comedy with Adam Sandler, “That’s My Boy.” But Samberg’s problem may lie in the very thing that’s made him famous: his goofball shtick. The Digital Shorts he brought to “SNL” with his Lonely Island crew have been insanely popular, but Samberg has so far been at his best in small doses. To make a strange analogy, there’s a reason Leslie Knope is the lead character on “Parks and Recreation” instead of Ron Swanson or Tom Haverford. It’s because wild and crazy works for supporting characters, but leads have to be able convey far more depth and connect with audiences. Samberg has yet to prove he can do that. Prediction : He may have a rough go of things until he finds his footing, but if he’s able to bring the kind of creativity and innovation to his post-“SNL” career as he did to his time on the show, he’ll figure things out. He really needs to dial it back and prove he can be more than the zany sidekick. Which “SNL” star do you think will have the most success after leaving the show? Let us know in the comments below!

Sandler is ‘off the rails and cursing every other word’ in new red-band trailer, co-star Andy Samberg teases. By Josh Wigler Adam Sandler in “That’s My Boy” Photo: Columbia Pictures Most movies about long-lost fathers reconnecting with their estranged sons don’t include overweight strippers launching fruit from their you-know-wheres. Then again, most of these movies are not “That’s My Boy,” the new comedy from Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg hitting theaters in June. MTV News has your exclusive first look at the NSFW red-band trailer for “That’s My Boy,” and if there’s one major takeaway, it’s this: There is no sign of the family-friendly, PG-safe Adam Sandler in sight. “It’s a hard R, which is extremely exciting, just in the fact that I don’t know that Sandler has ever done a hard R before, not with Happy Madison,” Samberg told MTV News in an exclusive interview. “The cut that I saw, which I loved, is what I thought the movie was going to be: the Happy Madison sensibility with a much edgier R-rating.” Indeed, we’d say that ending the trailer with a wedding dress covered in vomit and other bodily fluids fits the bill Samberg’s talking about. And if the Lonely Island frontman can be taken at his word, we still haven’t seen anything yet. “Sandler was having a lot of fun, doing stuff he hasn’t done since, really, his early albums, which is when I first became obsessed with him,” the “Saturday Night Live” performer said. “It’s certainly classic Sandler. He’s doing a Boston accent the whole movie; he’s off the rails, cursing every other word. We were dying the whole time we were shooting.” Part of the reason Samberg’s so excited to have been a part of “That’s My Boy” is his longtime status as a Sandler fan. “I’ve been joking that I’ve been carrying around this face my entire life, basically leading up to this moment where somebody says, ‘Hey, there’s this movie where someone has to play Adam Sandler’s kid, but he’s closer in age to Sandler than a normal kid would be,’ ” he laughed. “As soon as I read the script, I knew I wanted to do it. It sat for a while, but right around last fall, I heard that they were maybe thinking of doing it again. I told Sandler I’d love to do it, and he said, ‘We’ll see if we do it!’ And we did it! It was the happiest call.” “That’s My Boy” hits theaters June 15. For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

‘SNL,’ Andy Samberg Sued By Producers Over ‘Like A Boss’

St. Louis production duo claim they wrote music for ‘Saturday Night Live’ skits ‘Shy Ronnie’ and ‘Like a Boss.’ By Gil Kaufman Andy Samberg Photo: Getty Images A St. Louis production duo who claim they created the tracks that became the “Saturday Night Live” digital shorts “Like a Boss” and ” Shy Ronnie ” have filed a lawsuit against the show and cast member Andy Samberg claiming they haven’t been properly paid for their work. StarStrukk Production members Aleric “Rick tha Rular” Banks and Monique “Foxx StarStrukk” Hines filed a lawsuit in New York Federal court last week against NBC Universal, Samberg, The Lonely Island, and Universal Republic Records for willful copyright infringement and unjust enrichment. According to The Hollywood Reporter the suit alleges that Samberg’s band, The Lonely Island, recorded the tracks submitted by the duo “verbatim,” and then added lyrics on top. Samberg performed “Like a Boss” with Seth Rogen on “SNL” on April 4, 2009 and in December of that year he got together with Rihanna for the Emmy-nominated “Shy Ronnie.” The pair told a local paper that they hooked up with Samberg through a mutual connection in California in 2008, when they submitted tracks to Lonely Island for the band’s debut album. “Like a Boss” was featured on the trio’s 2009 disc Incredibad , while “Shy Ronnie 2: Ronnie & Clyde” was featured in this year’s Turtleneck & Chain . In August 2010, StarStrukk told a local paper that they were excited about being nominated for an Emmy for the “Shy Ronnie” skit, which they said featured a beat they tried, unsuccessfully, to sell to local acts like City Spud and Yung Ro as well as Young Jeezy. But after not getting the credit they felt they deserved or being paid appropriately, they filed suit. Banks claims he signed a form sent by the Universal Music Group in which he stated that he was a 50 percent owner of the copyright on “Like a Boss” as the writer and producer of the tune. According to the suit, he received a response letter that only gave him 25 percent interest in the tune. But, so far, Banks says he hasn’t gotten any producer royalties or profits from the songs. A spokesperson for NBCU could not be reached for comment at press time.
