Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston Discuss Box-Office Showdown With Justin Bieber

Their ‘Just Go With It’ opens against ‘Never Say Never’ this weekend. Yet Sandler, Aniston and their co-stars projected nothing but warm vibes as they made their way past a massive throng of photographers and toward an equally long line of TV and print journalists. Days from now, this new flick — a comedy of errors in which Sandler convinces Aniston to pretend to be his wife in a wild scheme to secure the affections of Brooklyn Decker — opens up against Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never.” This weekend at the box office is setting up to be a compelling clash between teen heartthrob and established big-screen players, but Aniston is approaching the whole thing blissfully unaware — or so she liked to joke when MTV News asked her about the face-off. “Who?” she asked when the topic of Bieber came up. Sandler stepped in with a little intro to the “Never Say Never” star. “Nice little kid. He sings,” he explained. “He grew up in front of our eyes. He’s a handsome boy.” “Very handsome,” Aniston added, suddenly finding herself with a case of Bieber Fever. For moviegoers on the fence this weekend, Sandler suggested catching a double feature at the multiplex. “We don’t start fights with people. You can go to both,” he said. “We’ll go to Justin’s movie. We’ll show some respect to that kid and his family — get him some more money.” “Yeah! I hear he’s hurting,” deadpanned Aniston. Others in the cast were more forthcoming about the prospect of opening up against “Never Say Never.” “It’s hard. We’re nervous,” Decker admitted. “I love myself some Justin Bieber, so I’m not going to bash anyone who goes to see that movie. I will say I love our movie!” Dave Matthews, who co-stars as Nicole Kidman’s absurdly pretentious husband, was even more blunt. “That’s going to blow everything out of the water. Justin Bieber is going to blow everything out of the water for a few years,” he told us. “That’s what I expect — and deservedly so. What better than Bieber to blow everything out of the water? I expect nothing but my daughter’s devotion to him and I will support it absolutely.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Just Go With It.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Katie Holmes In Talks For Adam Sandler’s ‘Jack And Jill’ Cast

Sandler plays both title roles in the film; Holmes would play Jack’s wife. By Adam Rosenberg Katie Holmes Photo: Soul Brother/ Getty Images Adam Sandler plays both of the title roles in his upcoming comedy “Jack and Jill,” but he’s making room for one more: Katie Holmes. The “Batman Begins” star is in talks to join the cast as Sandler’s wife, The Hollywood Reporter reveals. The Thanksgiving-set story centers on Jack (Sandler), a family man whose twin sister (also Sandler) pays a holiday visit and then doesn’t leave. In a bizarre twist, the movie also stars Al Pacino … as himself. “Jack and Jill” will be directed by Dennis Dugan, a longtime Sandler cohort. He most recently directed the former “Saturday Night Live” comic in “Grown-Ups,” “You Don’t Mess With the Zohan” and “I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry” but their relationship extends as far back as “Happy Gilmore.” The story comes from an idea and a script from Ben Zook, and Robert Smigel and Steve Koren have both done work on it as well. Sandler is producing the film with his “Happy Madison” partners Jack Giarraputo with Todd Garner. Holmes has led a pretty low-key existence since her 2005 roles in “Batman Begins” and “Thank You for Smoking.” She starred in the 2008 indie comedy “Mad Money” and appeared in one episode of the short-lived sitcom “Eli Stone” that same year. She also has a pair of 2010 indies in her corner: the Kevin Kline/ Paul Dano-starring comedy “The Extra Man,” which was released earlier this summer, and the ensemble drama “The Romantics,” which arrives in September. Holmes has a busy year ahead of her though. In addition to “Jack and Jill,” which is expected to be released next year, she also stars in Guillermo del Toro’s horror remake “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” and the upcoming miniseries “The Kennedys,” in which she plays Jackie Kennedy. Holmes is also set for director Dito Montiel’s “Fighting” follow-up, the crime thriller “The Son of No One.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

‘Grown Ups’ Stars Adam Sandler, Chris Rock Won’t Pick Fights With Vampires

At their red carpet premiere, the comic stars say they’re not even trying to compete with ‘Eclipse.’ By Eric Ditzian Chris Rock and Adam Sandler Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — It is hard to express just how humid it was under the tent outside the Ziegfeld Theatre on Wednesday evening at the red-carpet premiere of “Grown Ups.” Yet, as Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek and the rest of the cast dripped with sweat and made their way through the shouting reporters, they were zinging jokes and having a grand old time. “Grown Ups” (in theaters Friday) is a comedy, after all, and everyone was there for a celebration. It was a celebration in the midst of a summer movie season jam-packed with vampires, werewolves, superheroes and 3-D-assisted blockbusters. Still, Sandler and his crew are not worried about the chances that their flick — about five childhood friends who meet up with their families for a weekend at their favorite lake house — can survive at the cinema. They’re just going to pick their fights wisely, which means avoiding any sort of throwdown with the “Twilight” folks, whose third movie, “Eclipse,” opens next week. “I don’t want no piece of that fight!” Rock told MTV News. “No, don’t even think of that!” added Sandler with a laugh. “We’re in a different division.” No, the strategy for the “Grown Up” cast is to stay exactly where they are and let the laugh-seeking audience come to them — which seems like a savvy strategy, since their movie is projected to gross between $30 and $40 million this weekend. “We just do our own thing,” said co-star Kevin James. “We’re in a bubble. We stay in a bubble where it’s warm. No, I don’t go out into the ‘Twilight’ world. We don’t go near there.” That sentiment was echoed by co-star Rob Schneider. “I don’t want to put us against anybody. Our movie stands on its own,” he said. “I think the five of us could probably take out Iron Man’s ankle. We’ll find out his weakness and take advantage of it. All we can control is, ‘Did we have a good time, did we make a funny movie and would we want to see it?’ ” While the men of “Grown Ups” are doing everything they can to avoid a big-screen brawl with vampires and superheroes, their female cohorts are primed and ready for all comers. “What’s so great about our movie is it’s a family film,” Maria Bello said. “I know people say that, but this is really kids and men and women and grandparents. It’s moving and funny at the same time, and everyone will relate to it.” Added Hayek, “It’s so funny. It’s so funny!” Check out everything we’ve got on “Grown Ups.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
