Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston recently got engaged . Again. While we don’t doubt that the parents of 18-month-old son Tripp are genuine in their feelings for each other, they’re clearly milking the reconciliation for all it’s worth, even putting celebrity gossip coverage ahead of family. In a poignant sit-down with Us Weekly , Bristol Palin reveals that her mother Sarah Palin “doesn’t really approve” of her surprise engagement to Levi. Perhaps because she wasn’t told beforehand? Just a guess. “She’s apprehensive and concerned. She doesn’t want to see me get hurt again,” says Bristol. “My mom is not 100 percent backing us up right now.” How did Bristol and Levi break the news to Sarah? Over the phone. “She knew Levi and I had been talking, but she wanted to know if Levi was really sincere about this,” says Bristol, admitting Us knew before her folks . “I told her we were working on our relationship for Tripp, and she told me, ‘Actions speak louder than words.’ She’s going to wait to see if he changes.” “People are more worried for me than excited for me,” she confesses. Last month, Miley Cyrus made one of the most confusing, ridiculous comments on record, saying there’s a double standard at work between the negative reaction she receives on stage and the praise heaped upon Zac Efron in movies. However, Miley also showed love for the former High School Musical star, telling Billy Bush: “Zac has a special place in my heart. If it wasn’t creepy and he wasn’t my friend, I would have posters of him on my wall.” After being shown this interview, Efron had the following to say to Access Hollywood about Cyrus: “I’ve known her since she was a little girl. It’s amazing what she’s done. She’s blossomed into this beautiful lady and taking the world by storm. I’m so proud of her.” In other words: Zac is the anti-THG when it comes to Miley Cyrus. As he tours the country in promotion of Charlie St. Cloud , meanwhile, Efron stopped by the Mall of America in Minnesota yesterday. Over 7,000 fans came out to meet and greet this handsome actor. Levi Johnston’s feud with Sarah Palin was well documented. We’ll see if his own mother makes that look like child’s play. The Playgirl model’s mom, Sherry, and his sister, Mercede Johnston , are not pleased at the way in which they learned of Levi and Bristol’s second engagement. That would be via celebrity gossip publications … naturally. “You would think that a normal family would call you and say, ‘We’re getting married.’ We found out through the media, which is heartbreaking and rude,” Mercede, who recently started up an anti-Palin blog , told Inside Edition . Mercede Johnston, middle with Sarah Palin and Sherry Johnston. After first hearing about her son’s decision to walk down the aisle in a tabloid magazine, drug dealer Sherry even fears she won’t be welcome at the nuptials. “I would be absolutely devastated if I wasn’t invited to the wedding – it would be the last straw. They should elope if they can’t have both the Johnstons and the Palins together. But don’t leave us out of it. That would kill me,” she says. Speaking of the Sarah Palin, she must have been too busy making up words and comparing herself to Shakespeare, because she was out of the loop as well. She said in a vapid statement about the news: “Bristol at 19 is now a young adult. We obviously want what’s best for our children. George W. Bush’s linguistic difficulties , such as “Is our children learning,” “If the terriers and barrifs are torn down, this economy will grow” and “They misunderestimated me” made him the butt of many a joke back in the day, especially since they used to be played on cable news channels. Yet the current occupant of the White House—not to mention his vice president—does not seem to have found the media’s funnybone. Even Barack Obama’s teleprompter problems never got that kind of coverage, neither did that fact that his speeches are written at two grade levels below Bush. Then there was the time in Februrary, when Obama mispronuncicated “corpsman” as “corpse-man” and the media ignored it, or when he said he had been to 57 states and they excused it, the media has jumped all over Sarah Palin’s invention of the word “refudiate.” The word was coined on Fox News July 14, in response to the proposed Cordoba Center in New York City, a $100 million community center and Mosque three blocks from the World Trade Center site, but developed into a full-blown meme Sunday when she posted to Twitter: “Ground Zero Mosque supporters, doesn’t it stab you in the heart as it does ours throughout the heartland? Peaceful Muslims, pls refudiate.” The Los Angeles Times noted that the tweet was quickly edited to say “refute” instead of “refudiate,” writing “While not correct, ‘refute’ was a step up—it can actually be found in the dictionary.” “Fergalicious,” “truthiness,” “blatherscythe,” “bloviate,” and “sternutation” can also be found in the dictionary—although one might need the unabridged Oxford English Dictionary for that last one. The merciless mocking of Palin by the mainstream media, which began when John McCain selected to be his running mate in 2008, has led to Keith Olbermann almost constantly calling her an “idiot” and a false item from a blog claiming she thought that Africa is a country. The same media outlets which have suddenly become such ardent defenders of the English language and attacked Palin with verbal vorpal blades, have never cared whenever Obama erred in his oratory, rarely bothering to post it in their blogs like they have done with “refudiate.” Jacob Heilbrun at The Huffington Post wrote “Palin isn’t simply trying to bring down big government, but the English language as well.” Liberals, of course, have never tried to coin new words, they just change the definitions of existing ones.

Sarah Palin has weighed in over a planned mosque near New York’s Ground Zero – an idea she took to her Twitter page to encourage Muslims to refudiate. Yes, you read that right. Refudiate. “Ground Zero Mosque supporters: doesn’t it stab you in the heart, as it does ours throughout the heartland? Peaceful Muslims, pls refudiate,” she Tweeted. No word if she refudiates the engagement of Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston , but last week, she coined the term regarding NAACP allegations of racist elements within the Tea Party movement, saying “[The Obamas] could refudiate” them. After much mockery, she then Tweeted this: “‘Refudiate,’ ‘misunderestimate,’ ‘wee-wee’d up.’ English is a living language. Shakespeare liked to coin new words too. Got to celebrate it!” Yes. However jokingly, Sarah Palin has compared herself to Shakespeare. Perhaps more amazing than her non-word choice was the message of the Tweet, seen by some as a cynical effort to stoke ugly anti-Muslim sentiment. The building’s planners, the American Society for Muslim Advancement and the Cordoba Initiative, say it’s modeled on religious and community centers. The 13-story, $100 million building will include an arts center, gym and a swimming pool, as well as a mosque, two blocks away from Ground Zero. CBS and NBC nixed an ad opposing it from the National Republican Trust PAC that melded footage of the 9/11 attacks with sounds of Muslim prayer. A recent poll showed a majority of New Yorkers oppose the plan. However, an aide in Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s City Hall hit back at Sarah , Tweeting: “@SarahPalinUSA mind your business.” “@SarahPalinUSA whose hearts? Racist hearts?” Zing! The aide, Andrea Batista Schlesinger, deleted both tweets after posting them, with Bloomberg’s staff stating she was expressing her opinion alone. She later explained: “Deleted post bc I regretted curt response. But fact is, I believe this city belongs to everyone – and no one more than another” “Unlike @SarahPalinUSA, I was born here grew up here. Was showing off to a visitor today. Look at how beautiful and diverse my city is. I felt pain of 9/11, the trauma.” “I got through it by believing in my city. Not through fear and hate.” Bloomberg has defended the plan, arguing that blocking it would impinge on religious freedom, and has denounced calls to look into its funding.

Yesterday, we reported the joyous engagement of the previously-engaged, then estranged, then reconciled tandem from Alaska, Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston . It’s a wonderful thing, couples doing what it takes for love, for a child. But given who we’re talking about, there are cynics who suspect other motives at work. Seriously, when’s the reality show announcement? Next week? The week after? We stress again, this is just a rumor started by cynics. Yet it wouldn’t shock us. Think Bethenny Getting Married meets Northern Exposure meets the RNC! Gawker floats the following theory : “Within the next 4-6 weeks Palin’s PR people will releases news that Bristol and Levi will ‘star’ in a new reality show.” “All about young parenting. And yes, they will also work up to a wedding.” One they will remain abstinent prior to, of course. Because they’re like that. “This is part of the planned ‘story arc.’ Levi will be promoted as young, decent, salt of the earth guy. Bristol will be seen dealing with ‘challenges’ of young motherhood.” “Willow will be on a lot, maybe some Piper thrown in. They’ll attempt to boost rankings the first few episodes by having Sarah cameos, but the rest of the time will be a ‘conservative young marrieds who just happen to already have a baby’ theme.” Is such a scenario that crazy? Think about it. Levi’s on the hook for $1,700 a month in child support – or like $3,000 per month before taxes – a sizable sum even if he weren’t tied to the state of Alaska or lacking for a college degree. We’re just saying. The reality show would give him a salary, get the Palins get off his back, and get everybody on the same page as far as hyping the mythical exploits of Sarah Palin and her brood. Foolproof if you think about it. Reality show or not, will they last?
