Ryan Seacrest to Cover the Summer Olympics on NBC

Will Ryan Seacrest be taking over for Matt Lauer on The Today Show ? The American Idol host addressed that rumor this morning… to Matt Lauer on The Today Show . After joking about taking both Lauer’s job and that of weatherman Al Roker, Seacrest revealed that, yes, he has signed a new deal with NBC Universal. But Lauer can rest easy. “The plan is for me to join the NBC family and continue to have a role at the E! network,” Ryan said. “The first assignment will be to join the prime time team for the Olympics on NBC.” From there, who knows. But one thing is certain: this appearance by Seacrest will garner far less criticism for The Today Show than yesterday’s ratings stunt of having Sarah Palin co-host .

Sarah Palin on Today: Talking Politics, Getting Grilled By Matt Lauer

Sarah Palin appeared on Today this morning, first as a guest and then as a co-host, in what was a mostly enjoyable stint on the NBC morning show institution. Matt Lauer did ask her some tough questions, though nothing about how Levi Johnston got Sunny Oglesby pregnant . Hey, no journalist is perfect. The mood was jovial as Palin opened with a story about a stranger who, when she was headed to NBC’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza, said she knew Palin was Tina Fey. Lauer’s interview with Palin about the Republican presidential race – voters in Wisconsin, Maryland, and D.C. vote today – quickly turned more serious. Sarah Palin on Game Change: Hollywood LIES!

In HBO’s new film Game Change , Sarah Palin is portrayed by Julianne Moore as unstable, unprepared and ill-informed on world affairs and basic world history. The former GOP V.P. candidate is none too pleased about all this, even though the film is based on John Heilemann and Mark Halperin’s page-turning bestseller. A non-fiction bestseller. Of course, Palin will never actually see it, but dag gone it, “Hollywood lies are Hollywood lies,” she says of Game Change and its window into the 2008 election. Palin accuses Jay Roach, the director, and his collaborator, Danny Strong, of trying “[To] drum up their money and their machine and their machine happens to be very pro-leftist, pro-Barack Obama … there at HBO.” The one-time Alaska Governor lambasted its “false narrative” also noted that any of the campaign staffers who contributed to revealing behind-the-scenes information for Game Change should feel “shame and… embarrassment.” Palin’s PAC slammed the film , debuting tomorrow night, as “historical fiction.” The PAC claims that despite the alleged 25 sources consulted, “none are on record nor is their level of involvement in the campaign disclosed. Not one source is on the record in either the book or in the movie and it is clear why.” Never mind that much of the film involves Moore reenacting scenes that took place in real life, on TV … or that the film might not even be that negative. The L.A. Times describes Game Change as a “surprisingly kind film about Sarah Palin,” and NPR argues that the movie actually goes too easy on her. Or as they put it (to Fox News), Game Change is “fair – and balanced.” Check out the trailer for the much-talked-about film right here: Game Change Movie Trailer

Some Bolitics Swirl: Sarah Palin Wants Black Republican Allen West To Be Considered For GOP VP Nomination

Hmmmm… Several high-powered names have been bandied about for a possible No. 2 on the GOP presidential ticket. Sarah Palin, the Republicans’ last VP nominee, on Saturday threw out a new one – Florida Rep. Allen West. “I would like to see considered for the VP Col. Allen West,” she told Fox News. “In this tumultuous time … he served in the military and has intimate knowledge of the way the military works and should work by having a close family member serve. Someone like that.” Palin isn’t ruling out another run herself on the ticket, should she be asked. “It is not a no. I’m not saying no. But what I am saying is if I were in a GOP presidential candidate’s shoes, I would look to Col. Allen West.” Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie are among the other names that have been floated as potential running mates. Palin, who has been consistently undecided about her favorite in the presidential race, on Saturday also said she would support Mitt Romney if he is the nominee. Despite lingering discontent in some corners of the party with Romney, he is still the clear delegate frontrunner. “Anybody but Obama. Mitt Romney’s proven himself as a businessman and as a governor. He’s been the CEO of the state and understands amendment and states’ rights that Barack Obama doesn’t understand.” Palin stopped short of an endorsement. She also praised Rick Santorum for his efforts to bridge the gap between conservatives and independents and union workers in Michigan. But, she had a message for all the candidates: “I think that observers of the GOP process do get tired of some of the pettiness that goes on in the campaigns.” Meanwhile, Palin told Fox News she has no plans to see the new HBO movie “Game Change,” which is based on the 2008 McCain-Palin campaign. The movie trailers depict the Palin character as unprepared. “I am not going to see the movie and neither is Senator John McCain. Hollywood lies are Hollywood lies,” Palin told Fox News. “They are going to do what they can to drum up their money and machine and that happens to be a pro-leftist, pro-Barack Obama.” This Allen West character is known to kick it with Sarah Palin’s former swirly chop down buddy Glen Rice so perhaps that’s why she wants him nominated! Mary Jo Buttafuoco and Stu Tendler: Married!

Mary Jo Buttafuoco married Stu Tendler in Las Vegas Saturday. MJB, who was infamously shot in the face by her husband’s teenage lover, Amy Fisher, nearly 20 years ago, used her maiden name in the ceremony (Connery). Stu Tendler reportedly manages a print shop in Vegas. Long divorced from Joey Buttafuoco, Mary Jo underwent numerous surgeries and lost her hearing in one ear as a result of the shooting. She later wrote a book about the ordeal entitled, “Getting It Through My Thick Skull.” At least she has a sense of humor. Amy Fisher served seven years in prison for the shooting, then went on to become an amateur porn star. Joey Buttafuoco did six months for statutory rape. Congrats to Mary Jo and Stu! ESPN Apologizes for Racist Jeremy Lin Headline

We all make mistakes. Especially at 2:30 a.m. But ESPN made a doozy early this morning. Following the New York Knicks’ first loss with phenom Jeremy Lin starting at point guard – at home, to the woeful New Orleans Hornets, with Lin turning the ball over nine times – the self-proclaimed World Wide Leader in Sports plastered its mobile homepage with the following headline: The Asian epithet – which is meant differently in the context of that phrase, of course – was removed after about a half hour and the network then released this statement: Last night, ESPN.com’s mobile web site posted an offensive headline referencing Jeremy Lin at 2:30 am ET. The headline was removed at 3:05 am ET. We are conducting a complete review of our cross-platform editorial procedures and are determining appropriate disciplinary action to ensure this does not happen again. We regret and apologize for this mistake. The Knicks had won seven straight games heading into last night’s contest, with Lin’s record-breaking play earning praise around the country. Sarah Palin even talked about the Harvard graduate … for some reason.

Adele Sex Tape Story Sparks Legal Threat from Singer

Adele is best known for her blockbuster hit, “Rolling in the Deep.” But was the singer once rolling in the hay… on camera? Yes, a French tabloid hilariously claims, as the latest issue of Public is running a cover story that alleges Adele and the ex about whom she penned songs from the album “21” once pulled a Kim Kardashian/Ray J . The magazine even includes photos with the report. In response, Adele has hired Schillings law firm to represent her in a possibly lawsuit against the tabloid. “We are informed that the French magazine Public has today published images which it claims show our client in a sex tape,” one of Adele’s attorney says. “Our client has not appeared in a sex tape as claimed in the article. Our client does not appear in the photographs. Such claims are grossly defamatory. Our client is taking legal action in relation to this matter.” Darn right. In this instance, rumor has it… wrong.
