Chicago Teen Murdered After Facebook Argument With Another Girl Over Boyfriend Via ChicagoTribune A 14-year-old girl shot and killed another 14-year-old girl because of an argument over a boy, Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said today as murder charges were filed. The gun used to kill Endia Martin had been stolen from a car on April 13, McCarthy said, adding that two other people, including a 24-year-old uncle of the suspect, face charges as police investigate how the girl got the gun. “What would have been, under any other circumstance, probably a fistfight between 14-year-old girls, because they were fighting over a boy, turned into a murder,” McCarthy told reporters. “You introduce a firearm and you have a murder.” In addition to Endia, those responsible for that firearm being on the premises are being held responsible as well. He said that one of the suspects facing charges may have brought the gun to the scene “because there was going to be a fight,” and the other suspect then may have tried to get rid of it. The 14-year-old girl who is charged in the case was arrested about 4:50 p.m. Monday, about 20 minutes after the shooting, police said in a news release Monday. She pulled the gun from her waistband and fled the scene before the arrest. Endia’s stepfather, Kent Kennedy, said Endia and the suspect had been feuding on Facebook. “They had words and she gunned our daughter down. For what? What reason would another girl gun down another child? “It’s senseless,” he added. “Kids are dying so young nowadays. It’s senseless. Parents shouldn’t have to bury no child.” Kennedy said the family recently moved Endia from one school to another closer to home to keep her safe. Endia was killed about half a mile from her South Side home. “No place in Chicago is safe for teenagers nowadays,” he said. “No place is safe.” Thoughts and prayers go out to both families. Teen Dies Saving Girlfriend In California Train Accident This is so sad. The young man lost his life trying to save his girlfriend on their way to the Sadie Hawkins dance. According to SF Gate: A Northern California town was reeling Saturday after learning that a teenage boy was killed and a teenage girl was seriously injured after they were hit by a freight train while walking to a Sadie Hawkins Day dance. The accident Friday evening occurred near Marysville’s only high school and a little league park where a game was being played. Investigators told KCRA-TV the teens were walking southbound on the tracks — the same direction as the train. Relatives told the station the 16-year-old girl, Mickayla Friend, and her boyfriend had planned to take a short walk to the Dollar Tree store to buy some food before heading to the dance at their school. “It’s her first boyfriend, and her first love,” Alithya Friend said. “And she just got it taken away from her in an instant.” The boy died at the scene, and the girl was airlifted to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with traumatic injuries, CalFire Capt. Dennis Hunt said. Friend said her sister remained in critical condition Saturday. People who were at the game said they heard a long blowing of the train’s horn, and many raced to the scene as the train came to a stop. “The engineer was on the horn,” witness Sean Stark said. “Then finally, they both looked back at the same time.” He said the boy made a split second decision. “They would have both been underneath that train if he didn’t push her out of the way at the last second,” Stark said. At least two people were killed and nearly two dozen injured Wednesday by a Harlem explosion reportedly triggered by a gas leak, Mayor Bill de Blasio said. Harlem Explosion The mayor, speaking to New York reporters at the scene, said finding those still missing is a top priority, but cautioned that many may have simply fled to safety. The N.Y. City Fire Department said at least 22 people were hurt, including two with life-threatening injuries and four with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Both fatalities were women. More than a dozen people are unaccounted for after the explosion leveled two buildings in Harlem and ignited a massive fire. “This is a tragedy of the worst kind because there was no indication in time to save people,” de Blasio told the media . “We have lost two people already.” He promised a thorough search of the rubble after the 200 firefighters, who began arriving on the scene in two minutes, bring the fire under control. The buildings housed a Spanish Christian Church and a piano repair store at the East Harlem address on Park Avenue between 114th and 116th Streets. “It felt like an earthquake rattled my whole building,” said a witness. “There were glass shards everywhere on the ground; all the stores had their windows blown out.” The mayor said the explosion occurred at 9:31 a.m. ET, only minutes before a Con Ed utilities team arrived on the scene to check on reports of a natural gas leak. As Harlem residents gathered near the scene of the explosion, white smoke still billowed up from the debris in waves and left a chalky taste in the air. Traffic is blocked off and Metro-North service into and out of Grand Central Terminal was suspended due to the debris on the elevated train tracks. Story developing …
And we STILL can’t get real gun control reform passed in this country 3 Dead In Baltimore Mall Shooting Via NYDailyNews Three people have been confirmed dead — including the suspected shooter — after gunfire rang out at a mall in suburban Baltimore, local authorities said Saturday. According to the Howard County Police Department, three people were found gunned down at the the Mall in Columbia, with one of the deceased located near a gun and ammunition. The dead have not been publicly identified. The police department said via Twitter around 12:36 p.m. that the scene is believed to be secure. A news conference is expected at 1:15 p.m. The Howard County Police said that the fire department and police are currently on the scene. The police department announced via Twitter around 1:26 p.m. that two more victims with “minor injuries” that were not directly related to the shooting were transported to a local hospital. In the dispatch call they placed upon reaching the tragic scene, responders to Saturday’s Paul Walker crash made it obvious that he was dead immediately. The first firefighters arrived less than three minutes after a 911 call alerted them, and one of their first communications was “two fatalities” … and “DOA.” Paul Walker Accident: First Responders Call The first responders on the scene also informed the dispatcher right away that Walker’s death was a “Code N” incident, in other words, a newsworthy event. One should be handled with extra care by authorities. Several of Paul’s friends were on the scene and most likely told firefighters the actor was in the vehicle, even if his remains had to be ID’d with dental records. Despite reports that Walker attempted to escape the car, firefighters had no doubt Paul and his friend Roger Rodas, who was driving, died immediately. This is messed up. NYPD Officer Ran Over And Killed By Truck The officer was just doing his job and got killed in a freak accident. SMH. According to Newsday: A uniformed NYPD traffic enforcement agent was struck and killed by a large truck on a bustling Manhattan street Saturday afternoon, police said. Kalyanarat Ranasinghe, 71, was pinned beneath the Freightliner industrial vacuum truck at about 2:30 p.m. on East 44th Street between Fifth and Madison avenues, witnesses and colleagues said. The Queens resident was pronounced dead at the scene. The midtown accident brought traffic to a halt in the busy retail district on one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Fellow traffic agents cried and consoled one another, mourning their fallen colleague. “The officer was on the roadway doing his job,” said NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly. “This underscores how dangerous the job can be. “These officers don’t make a lot of money, are out there in heavy traffic, in the worst possible weather day and night,” he added. “Unfortunately, things like this happen.” Anthony Trinidad, a doorman at a building on East 44th Street, said he saw the enforcement agent talking on his cellphone in front of the parked truck when the driver suddenly pulled out and ran over him. “It was a freak accident,” Trinidad said. “The driver was pulling out and didn’t see him. People were yelling for him to stop.” NYPD Deputy Chief Kim Royster said Ranasinghe was struck by the right side of the truck, which is used to pump out water or debris. Minutes after the accident, a coach bus collided with the truck, police said. No other injuries were reported. Ranasinghe “was on duty, but it is undetermined what he was doing” at the time of the accident, Royster said. Police did not release other details of the accident.
