Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell made headlines recently when he officially decided to run for mayor of Miami-Dade County, FL. Campbell is hoping to use his business savvy to help the city. Campbell stopped by WLRN-FM, a local station owned by the Miami Herald, to talk about his run for office. He repeatedly talked up his business savvy and how he brought new industry to Miami. “My business enhanced economics in this town,” Campbell told radio host Phil Latzman. “There was no music business here in South Florida in 1986 when I started off. We created a business. We employed people. We educated people.” We couldn’t help but chuckle at the 2:34 mark in the video when Campbell states that the mayor of Miami needs to have vision. It reminded us of that classic scene in Willie Dynamite … Spotted @ The Miami Herald RELATED: Uncle Luke Officially Joins Miami Mayoral Race RELATED: Uncle Luke Lands Assistant Coach Job At Miami High School
Compton-born Young Money MC will join host Sway and take your questions on New West-themed edition of the show on MTV.com. By Alvin Blanco Tyga Photo: Christie Goodwin/ Getty Images Tyga will join us on this Wednesday’s special New West edition of MTV News’ “RapFix Live.” The Young Money rapper will only chat it up with host Sway, but we’ll have an in-depth look at some of the Cali rap acts that are making L.A. a go-to hip-hop destination once again. As always, we’ll also be taking your questions! Last year, the Compton, California, rapper caught an inadvertent hit when his Chris Brown collabo, “Deuces,” from their joint mixtape, Fan of a Fan, burned up the airwaves, landing at #1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Tyga and Brown went on to earn a Grammy nomination in the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration category for the song he co-wrote, and he’s now prepping his forthcoming album, Careless World. Before connecting with the YMCMB, Tyga was already making a name for himself on the L.A. rap circuit. In 2008, he dropped his debut single, “Coconut Juice,” which featured his cousin Travie McCoy. Soon Tyga became acquainted with Lil Wayne — the two appeared together on a remix to Fall Out Boy’s “Arms Race” — and signed on with Young Money a year or so later. Tyga cemented his place in the crew by contributing to Young Money’s hits “BedRock” and “Roger That.” Tyga is hoping to prove his patience will pay off as he’s waited in the wings for fellow YMCMB teammates Drake and Nicki Minaj to launch their careers. The first singles from Careless World, “I’m On It,” featuring Lil Wayne, and “Really Raw,” featuring Snoop Dogg and Pharrell, have heads checking for the project’s release. And earlier this year, Tyga revealed a Drake collaboration will be included on it too. We’ve already spotlighted Nipsey Hussle and Casey Veggies and our New West coverage will continue on “RapFix Live” with closer looks at the movements of Black Hippy (Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul and School Boy Q) and Odd Future. Apart from the insight into the diverse underground rap sounds coming out of L.A., we’ll also be examining its party and dance scene . Find out what else is in store from Tyga and the rest of the YMCB crew when he sits down for his interview on the “RapFix” couch. The “Deuces” rapper will be taking questions from the audience via Twitter, @MTVRapFix with the hashtag #rapfixlive. Fans can also upload video questions for Young Money’s next star via Your.MTV.com . Tune in on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. Stick with us all week as MTV News turns the spotlight on the New West, including a special edition of with Cali’s own Tyga on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. We’re bringing you the next wave of hip-hop acts helping restore faith in the L.A. rap scene. From groups like Odd Future to rising MCs like Dom Kennedy, we’ll bring you up close and personal to these artists as they carve their own lanes in the post-gangsta rap era. Keep it locked here for the next week for more on the West Coast up-and-comers! Related Videos Tyga Is Coming To ‘RapFix Live’ Related Artists Tyga
There’s been talk about passing an “anti-sagging law” for years now, which would prevent men from wearing their pants below their waist and exposing their underwear in public. Now, Florida senators are in the midst of passing the law that boys can’t expose their underwar in public and especially in school settings. State Senator Gary Siplin has been working on the bill which would be targeted towards school’s dress codes and he is close to making it a law after six years of fighting. SB 228 and House version, HB 61, makes it against the law when boys wear their pants so low that you’re able to see their underwear. This rule applies to both boys and girls. Kevin Gordon, a principle in a Florida school, says school administrators are sending a message on what is appropriate in the workplace. He stated: “ If you are not dressed appropriately, then you’re not ready for school. If you are not ready for school, you’re not ready to be successful.” What do you think? Do you think the way that you dress affects your success level? Do you think that the government has a reason to regulate how people dress? Read the full story at Bossip.com. Really? A bill?? We don’t want to see men’s underwear either but the government is going to tell people how to dress now??? State Senator Gary Siplin has been working on a bill aimed at a school’s dress code policy for six years and he’s close to making it law. SB 228 and House version, HB 61, makes it against the law when teens wear their pants so low you can see their underwear. The proposed rule under the school code of conduct applies to boys and girls. The Senate version passed without any dissenting votes. The saggy pants fashion among teens is bad enough to inspire this song on American Idol a couple of seasons ago. The opening lyrics say, “Pants on the ground. Pants on the ground, looking like a fool with your pants on the ground.” Florida lawmakers agree with “General” Larry Platt’s song and are fast approving a bill banning clothing that shows underwear in public schools. Mike Davis, a senior at Gibbs High School in St. Petersburg, says he supports the bill. “You should dress appropriately for school. It’s a business. It’s the place training you to become the person you will be in life.” A local school principal agrees wholeheartedly: Principal Kevin Gordon says school administrators are sending a clear message on what’s appropriate for school and the workforce. “If you are not dressed appropriately, then you’re not ready for school. If you are not ready for school, you’re not ready to be successful,” says Gordon. He adds, “Those are patterns students get into. We try to create patterns that are going to be patterns of success.” Do you think the government has a right to dictate how people dress?? Source

It’s good to see that people are still keeping Haiti’s needs on their mind. Colombian singer Shakira danced with students in Haiti on Thursday as she celebrated the renovation of a historic Catholic girls school damaged in the country’s devastating 2010 earthquake. With her song “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” playing over loudspeakers, the Grammy-winning, hip-shaking pop star grooved with students from the Elie Dubois high school in downtown Port-au-Prince. Her Barefoot Foundation, which helps child victims of violence and disasters, and the Inter-American Development Bank each donated $400,000 to restore the high school. “I’m convinced that the key to a dignified future for Haiti is through education,” said Shakira, 34, wearing a black T-shirt and matching jeans. The nine-classroom, 250-student school was built in 1913, and was the first in Haiti to provide vocational training for girls, officials said. Construction is expected to begin in two months and will take up to 14 months to complete. Organizers have yet to put out bids. Said one student of the sexy Colombian’s charitable donation: “It’s so nice that we have a star coming and that she’s coming to help the school,” said Joselourdes Jean-Paul, a 19-year-old student. “With the new school, we’re going to learn more and learn better.” This is a beautiful gesture and we hope more people follow suit as Haiti has a long way to go before they full recover from the destruction they’ve suffered.
