‘The Situation’ Jokes About Slavery At Comedy Central Roast

Originally posted here:

At Donald Trump’s Comedy Central Roast last night, Jersey Shore cast-mate Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino, got up on stage to attempt some stand up comedy. As I suppose you would expect from someone who spends their days GTL’ing (gym, tan, laundry) and proudly proclaims, ‘I’m hooking up with this girl, your girl’s girl, and your girlfriend’s girlfriend’s girlfriend. Somebody’s gotta do it’, he took the low road. According to The Frisky , The Situation, addressed Donald Trump and Snoop Dogg (who openly smoked a huge blunt while on stage), and said; ‘hey, Snoop Dogg, Donald Trump and your ancestors had a lot in common — they owned real estate, and your ancestors were property! … This is my first time doing comedy!’. Seriously? I would never have guessed. What a fool. I’m sorry, but joking about the slave trade, and calling Black people property isn’t funny. Thankfully, the crowd at the gala didn’t think so either, and booed him off stage, making him the first roaster to be booed in over 10 years. Sadly, people trying to make light of slavery, seems to be a trend (remember Chelsea Handler at the VMA’s?). I’m all for not judging people for others mistakes and trying not to dwell on a situation, but it really does bother me when White people try to make light of the African American struggle for freedom and equality. What do you think? Is it becoming acceptable for someone, especially a White person to make jokes about slavery? Former Philly HS Basketball Star Gets 230 Years For Serial Rapes

Two Hundred and Thirty Years!! Domenique Wilson said nothing and showed no remorse before he was sentenced today by a Philadelphia judge for a series of brutal rapes in late 2008. Then again, he now has almost five centuries to think about it. Wilson, 25, a power forward for West Philadelphia High School’s basketball team in 2003 who went on to play for Lock Haven University, was sentenced to 84 to 230 years in prison by Common Pleas Court Judge Charles J. Cunningham III – on top of the 70 to 196 years he is serving for rapes at Lock Haven. Cunningham called Wilson a “serial rapist” and said he stacked the sentences to ensure “there is never a day when he is out.” In November, a Philadelphia Common Pleas Court jury found Wilson guilty of rape and related charges in two attacks in late 2008. By then, however, Wilson had already begun serving what is essentially a life prison term on rape and sexual assault convictions from attacks on three Lock Haven University women in February 2009. Wilson did not testify at his Philadelphia trial and so the jury did not know about the Clinton County cases. The city jury, however, had no difficulty convicting Wilson for the two attacks here in 2008. In the first, the jury found that Wilson forced his way into an apartment on Clinton Street in Center City on Oct. 22, 2008. He then raped and robbed a 25-year-old woman at knifepoint and tied up, robbed and assaulted her 29-year-old boyfriend, the victims told the jury. Wilson was also found guilty of forcing his way into a Spruce Street apartment on Dec. 19, 2008. The 24- and 22-year-old University of Pennsylvania female students told the jury that Wilson terrorized them with a gun and knife, covered their eyes, mouths and wrists with duct tape and repeatedly raped one. Wilson was not identified in the Philadelphia cases until after the Clarion County conviction when his DNA profile matched that of the rapist in the cases here. Later, prosecutors found an ATM security camera in West Philadelphia that showed Wilson using the victims’ bank cards to make multiple withdrawals of cash and the Philadelphia victims picked him out of a photo array. Wilson was arrested in April 2009 and charged with the assaults there. Authorities said Wilson’s motel room contained a mask, duct tape and other items the Philadelphia victims said he used in the assaults. Cunningham heard powerful statements from the Philadelphia victims in which they described how they remain traumatized by the attacks. Assistant District Attorney Mark Cipolletti called Wilson’s acts of “absolute brutality, depravity and coldness to all the victims.” Man, this is getting to be too much! We can’t even take it. A “Lil Positivity”: Ambassador Susan Rice Speaks To Young Women’s Leadership School In Harlem

Ambassador Susan Rice, the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, marked the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day on March 8 in East Harlem, New York. There she urged tomorrow’s strong woman leaders, the 11th- and 12th-grade classes of The Young Women’s Leadership School (TYWLS) of East Harlem, to continue to win their future through education. Ambassador Susan Rice speaks to roughly 120 students and staff from The Young Women’s Leadership School of East Harlem on March 8, 2011 These young women, primarily low-income students of color, have a remarkable legacy to uphold: for ten straight years, every single senior at TYWLS of East Harlem has been accepted to college with significant financial aid. Ambassador Rice spoke to roughly 120 students and teachers who gathered in the school’s multi-purpose gymnasium on 106th Street. “There is no greater source of empowerment and success,” she said, “than to have, and to insist upon getting the best education.” After the event, Ambassador Rice met and snapped photographs with Jo’Nella Queen Ellerbe, Marjana Chowdhury, and Tiara Kittrell, seniors who have been accepted to prestigious universities and who delivered introductory and closing remarks on Tuesday. Together with their classmates, these young women carry on with their “most important asset,” as Ambassador Rice called it: “the education that you are getting, and the education that you will continue to get when you leave this great school.” Source

MTV Says Kanye’s “Monster” Video Not Banned

See the rest here:

MTV has responded to reports that they have banned Kanye West’s “Monster” video after being pressured by a women’s rights organization. The cable channel says they are still waiting on edits to be made to the video before it will air. “MTV has not banned Kanye West’s ‘Monster’ video,” the network said in a statement. “We have been in constant communication with the label regarding this matter. However, we are still awaiting the edits we requested in order for the video to be suitable for broadcast.” “The mainstreaming of videos like this increases desensitized and callous attitudes toward violence against women,” said Melinda Tankard Reist, of Change.org, the group that led an effort to have the video banned.. “Young people are seeing images and absorbing harmful messages which glamorize misogyny and brutalize women. Women are reduced to sex-doll like playthings. So great is the level of desensitization that the barbaric treatment of women and girls is seen as normal and to be expected. We decided to run this campaign because we wanted to challenge the status quo.” Spotted @ HipHopDX RELATED: Women’s Rights Activists Prevent Release Of Kanye’s “Monster” Video RELATED: Is Kanye West Going Back To School?
