Wiz talks to MTV News on the set of his Jake Davis-directed video. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Matt Elias Wiz Khalifa on the set of “Roll Up” Photo: MTV News Oh, that Wiz Khalifa is so clever. The “Black and Yellow” star followed up his breakout single, which reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, with “Roll Up.” When he spoke to MTV News late last year, he teased the song as a nod to his favorite pastime — his album is called Rolling Papers , after all. “The next single is called ‘Roll Up,’ surprisingly,” he coyly explained with a laugh. The song, however, is anything but smoke inducing: It’s more of the skirt-chasing variety. “I was trying to be funny, be clever as possible,” Wiz told us recently on the set of the video for “Roll Up.” “It’s for the chicks. It’s for guys to sing to chicks. And it’s just a fun song.” In the clip, directed by Jake Davis (Drake and Trey Songz’s “Successful”), Wiz said he is “courting a female that I’m into.” Instead of real-life love interest Amber Rose, however, the Pittsburgh rapper has his sights set on the female lead in the video, Bad Boy recording artist Cassie. “It’s really, really awesome,” Wiz said of her casting. After being named one of MTV News’ 11 for ’11 celebrities to look out for in the new year, Wiz has managed to put a lot on his plate. He’s gracing the cover of the new Rolling Stone , he’s scheduled to start the Green Carpet Tour next month, and he and Snoop Dogg are finishing up their “High School” movie and music joint effort. But first, Wiz has to drop his album — Rolling Papers , his major-label debut, is set for a March 29 release — after a long rise to stardom for the former underground favorite. “I been waiting to put an album out for a long time,” he said. “But I feel like now my sound, at this point, has grown and matured and it’s right where it needs to be at for people to get that perfect pull and debut album from me. I’m ready to deliver.” Are you awaiting the release of Rolling Papers ? Tell us below! Related Artists Wiz Khalifa

This has gotta be tough on the kid. It isn’t like he sexually assualted someone or committed a crime, just a lil hanky-panky with his girlfriend. Sticking to principles appears to carry a steep cost for the nation’s third-ranked college basketball team. A day after Brigham Young University dismissed center Brandon Davies from the team for violating the school’s strict honor code, the No. 3-ranked Cougars were throttled Wednesday by unranked New Mexico. “The honor code really reflects who we are as a university. It defines us and it does make us different,” BYU spokeswoman Carrie Jenkins told CNN affiliate KSTU-TV. Davies, a 6-9 sophomore from Provo, was the team’s top rebounder and third-leading scorer. He received the Cougars’ Academic Excellence award last season, according to an online profile. BYU had been gunning for a high seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament, but the team’s fortunes took a tumble with Wednesday night’s 82-64 loss to New Mexico. University officials said Davies admitted violating the honor code at BYU, which is owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as the Mormon Church. The honor code requires all faculty, staff and students to: Be honest; Live a chaste and virtuous life; Obey the law and all campus policies; Use clean language; Respect others; Abstain from alcoholic beverages, tobacco, tea, coffee and substance abuse; Participate regularly in church services; Observe dress and grooming standards; Encourage others in their commitment to comply with the honor code. The code forbids homosexual behavior and bars members of the opposite sex from going beyond the lobby of the school’s single-sex dormitories. The dress and grooming standards forbid beards, tattoos and piercings for men and short or form-fitting clothes or bare feet in public for women. The university did not say which part of the code Davies violated, but it did say he had not committed a crime. Davies’ future as a student at BYU and his status for next season have yet to be determined. Ah c’mon give the kid a break! A lil poon-tang ain’t never hurt nobody (long as he wore a Jimmy!) Do you feel that BYU has a right to ask players not to have sex as a condition of playing for the team or going to the school??? Source

And Snoop can thank his eldest son for bridging the generation gap between the artists. Last year, parents of students in failing California public schools were given a reason to be hopeful when Sacramento politicians passed something called the “parent trigger” law. The way the law works is that if 51% of parents at a failing school sign a petition, they can turn the school into a charter school, replace the staff or simply use the petition as a bargaining chip to initiate a conversation… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : Reason Magazine – Hit & Run Discovery Date : 02/03/2011 18:49 Number of articles : 2
‘A lot of girls look up to guys who embody that,’ she tells MTV News of her character’s questionable taste in guys. By Kara Warner Photo: CBS Films As we’ve learned from promos and teaser trailers for “Beastly,” the movie is a modern take on the classic fairy tale “Beauty and the Beast.” Co-starring Vanessa Hudgens and “I Am Number Four” leading man Alex Pettyfer , the basic premise is the same, but there’s a key difference in this long-delayed adaptation. In “Beastly,” Hudgens’ character, Lindy, is a high-schooler operating on the outskirts of the cool crowd when she develops an attraction to Pettyfer’s bad boy, Kyle, who has yet to have his movie-star looks marred by any spells. When MTV News caught up with the “High School Musical” star recently, we asked what she thought about her character’s attraction to the proverbial bad boy. “I feel like a lot of girls think it’s easier to go under the radar, to not really stand up and let their true selves be known,” Hudgens explained about Lindy’s desire to stay in the background. “And I feel like when that happens, a lot of girls look up to guys who embody that, who are just truly out there and, of course, my character falls for that, as a lot of other girls would,” she said. Hudgens went on to say that while the “opposites attract” idea initially draws Lindy to the school’s most popular guy, she senses that there’s more to him and eventually connects to Kyle’s softer side. “Slowly, she falls in love with him, not for his appearance, which I think is the most beautiful part of it,” she said. “Beastly” hits theaters on Friday. As much as we appreciate the strides that have been made since the Civil Rights movement in terms of racial equality, there are a few realities that remind us that equality is still a goal. The discrepancy between the number of athletes on the field and the number of Blacks in front office positions is a grand example of how covert discrimination plays out in many corporate environments. Are there seriously not enough Blacks interested in the business end of sports? This is just one of the points that Dr. Thabiti Lewis, a professor at Washington State University in Vancouver, examines in his book “ Ballers of The New School: Race and Sports in America. ” Continued at The Atlanta Post
