Tyler Baltierra Reacts to Outrage Over Catelynn Lowell Fat-Shaming Comments

Last week, a preview for the new season of Teen Mom featured a moment that surprised many fans of the long-running MTV reality series. Tyler Baltierra to Catelynn Lowell: You’re Not Ready to Be a Mom! In the clip above, Tyler Baltierra fat-shames Catelynn Lowell , slamming his wife over the size of her meal moments after she stated that she’d like to rejoin Weight Watchers. So it’s not like Catelynn’s weight was a problem and she didn’t realize it. And considering Catelynn went to rehab for emotional issues shortly after the scene was filmed, it’s not like she was in such a stable place that such hurtful comments rolled right off her back. Nevertheless, Tyler is reacting to the situation in the fashion beloved by reality stars who have said something stupid on camera: Basically his response to pissed off fans is, Hey, I know I’ve spent my adult life cashing in on your interest in my personal life, but now that the attention has turned negative, can you stop? On Saturday, Baltierra revealed that he’s in therapy learning how to refrain from making the types of remarks he made, because apparently that’s the sort of thing one has to learn in therapy. Shortly thereafter, however, Baltierra had a message to fans who were upset by his remarks: “When your [sic] with someone for over 10 yrs your [sic] able to speak to each other openly & honestly. That’s how we communicate,” Baltierra tweeted. “We aren’t afraid to hurt each other’s feelings, because we know how strong our love for each other is> ” If that explanation is a bit TL;DR for you, it can basically be summed up as: “STFU, people who made me famous. That’s how I ‘communicate’ with my wife.” We initially thought therapy was a bit of an overreaction, but now we’re thinking Tyler could benefit from working on his communication skills. Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley: Can They Make Co-Parenting Work?

Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley may not be back together, but that doesn’t mean they can’t raise their daughter, Leah as a team. ” Me and Gary sat on his front porch and talked about everything,” Portwood told People Magazine ahead of Teen Mom OG ‘s season premiere tonight. “[We were] like ‘Okay, what should we do?’ And we made the decision that he would take primary custody, simply because we didn’t want to take her out of her school. “She’s going to a really great school and she’s in an advanced class and I don’t want to take that away from her.” Last week, MTV shared a preview of Portwood discussing custody with her friend, Krystal.   Portwood revealed that the animosity between her and Gary was affecting the 7-year-old, so she decided to put whatever issues she has with her ex aside for the well-being of their daughter. I have her on my weekends and during the summer we had her back and forth 50/50. It was great. I would have her for like a week straight and we’re doing really good with this.” What’s even better is that Portwood and Shirley don’t have to go back to court to discuss custody.  It’s not, however, smooth sailing for this famously volatile duo. It’s going the way that everybody would think it’s going.” Portwood gushed about Leah, and what a good big sister she is to Shirley’s daughter Emily with his wife, Kristina Anderson. “She’s so smart,” Portwood said of Leah. “I know every mom says that about their kids, but she’s just excelling. She’s so beautiful; I don’t know where she gets it. It’s crazy. “She’s the greatest big sister to Emily. She loves that little girl. It’s the cutest thing. And Emily kind of looks like her when she was little. Student Who Knocked Up Teacher Awarded $6 Million Settlement

A former student who impregnated a high school teacher was awarded $6 million in a settlement, officials in Redlands, Calif., confirmed. Vince Finaldi, an attorney for the former student, said the egregious conduct of the Redlands Unified School District warranted the payment. “The size of this settlement represents the gravity of the damage done to this young victim and his family,” he said in a statement. “It also highlights the extreme malfeasance and neglect by school officials who turned a blind eye to the criminal conduct of a teacher.” Administrators, he reiterated, “failed to protect a student.”  Laura Whitehurst , 29, was arrested in July 2013 and charged with 41 felony counts of unlawful sex acts. Yes. Forty-one felony charges. That could have meant up to 29 years in prison. Ultimately, she pleaded guilty to four counts of unlawful sexual intercourse and two counts of oral copulation with a person under 18. Her sexual dalliances involved three boys at Citrus Valley and Redlands high schools during her tenure as a teacher in both locations. As part of a plea bargain in which she admitted having the student’s baby , she was sentenced to a year in jail and released after six months. On probation, she is a registered sex offender. Laura Whitehurst shares custody of the love child with the former high school student, who is now 21, according to the victim’s attorneys. In the lawsuit, attorneys for the student alleged that school officials knew of his romance with Whitehurst and failed to warn his family.  Teacher Pleads Guilty To Having Sex With Students The lawsuit also claimed that a colleague of Whitehurst’s was aware of the relationship and that school officials questioned her about it. Despite the huge payment, district officials said they were admitting no wrongdoing by settling the lawsuit, blaming Whitehurst alone. Spokesman Tom DeLapp said the district is “not pleased with this” but settled “this tragic case once and for all so we can move forward.” “We felt there could be serious damage to the reputation of a very fine school district” if the legal case were to be drawn out, he added. Throwing a bit of shade, he said they ended this before “the plaintiff’s lawyers were allowed to drag the [school] through the mud all over again.” “In the long run, $6 million is high, but it could have been much higher if this had been left to an empathetic jury in another city.” DeLapp feared a jury “looking past the facts” to find a “financial scapegoat for the unprofessional, criminal actions of one individual.” He cited the explosion of media attention, noting “there was a picture of her in the birthing suite circulated to people at the school with the boy.” View Slideshow: 24 Teachers 2 Hot 4 Students The former student who fathered Laura Whitehurst’s baby said the relationship started in 2012 when he was 16 and lasted for a year. He told authorities Whitehurst began driving him home from school functions and spending long hours with him away from the school. On a trip to Disneyland, she grabbed his hand and told him she wanted to kiss him, and shortly after the trip, things escalated. Hard. She and the boy began having repeated sexual intercourse at her apartment, he said, and Whitehurst gave birth to their child in June 2013. The boy was in attendance for the birth. He said later that Whitehurst gave him alcohol and told him it was a “miracle pregnancy” as she did not believe she could get pregnant. BOSSIP Exclusive: Insurance Co. Demands Deion Sanders Pay $43K Medical Bills For Son’s School Beatdown

Insurance Company Says Deion & Pilar Sanders To Blame For Son’s Brutal Assault Deion Sanders and his ex-wife are solely to blame for their son’s brutal attack on a school employee – who suffered such severe injuries he had to undergo spinal surgery. That’s according to the school’s insurance company, which is demanding the NFL legend be ordered to pay $43,000 for the costs of their employee John Darjean’s medical bills. Darjean, an employee at the Dallas high school that Deion’s son attends, sued Deion and his ex-wife Pilar in Dallas County Court demanding mire than one million dollars in damages for the brutal attack at the hands of their offspring. Darjean said in court papers that he tried to confiscate Deion’s teenage son’s cellphone – which was being used despite school rules banning the use of the device – and it caused the kid to go nuts and brutally beat down the employee. The alleged assault was so bad he needed to go to a local hospital and ended up having spinal surgery. Earlier this year, the man’s insurance company filed suit over the attack and is seeking $26,000 from the former couple to reimburse the payout they sent Darjean following the attack. The company has accused Deion’s son of having a history of reckless conduct and have blamed his parents for not doing anything to fix his behavior. That lawsuit is still pending and Deion nor Pilar have responded to the suit in court. Deion has publically said the allegations are false and the man accusing his son of attacking him is a liar and called out the man’s character as being shady. But the school employee filed suit in Dallas County Court on June 20th, just days after Deion publically called him out for targeting his family due to their wealth. Darjean said he acted in a reasonable and rational manner when asking Deion’s son for his cellular phone, but Shilo Sanders response was to physically assault him, causing him severe and permanent injuries including permanent neurological injuries and damage to his cervical spine. He blames Deion and his ex-wife Pilar  of failing to supervise their child and failing to raise him to not act like a savage in public.

Oprah Winfrey And Ava Duvernay Reject “Diversity” Oprah and Ava may have made their careers championing the stories of Black people and women…but they say that they are not here for the term “diversity.” Via THR : Ava, you’ve expressed strong distaste for the term “diversity,” but Oprah has made use of it. How do you both characterize the concept now in terms of the overall conversation in the industry? DUVERNAY We aren’t sitting around talking about diversity, just like we aren’t sitting around talking about being black or being women. We’re just being that. WINFREY I will say that I stand corrected. I used to use the word “diversity” all the time. “We want more diverse stories, more diverse characters …” Now I really eliminated it from my vocabulary because I’ve learned from her that the word that most articulates what we’re looking for is what we want to be: included. It’s to have a seat at the table where the decisions are being made. DUVERNAY That was your take on it. WINFREY When Sidney Poitier came to my school [in South Africa], he gave a gift of 550 movies to the girls. He thought if you watch these 550 movies, they’ll be your education for life. He wrote to the girls that his dream for them was to be able to sit at the table of the future where the world’s decisions would be made. I realize now that what he was saying is to be included, to be valued as a person who has something to contribute. And part of that inclusion is making Black stories a part of a larger narrative, rather than making “Black movies.” Because you can’t rely on a White writer to capture or understand And you think we’ve not seen those scenes because the writers often are white? DUVERNAY Yeah, they render it through their lens, so you will see that scene, and it will be with white people. All lives can’t matter to folks who are not us if you don’t know us, if you don’t understand [us]. I don’t make anything as education for anyone; I make it as a love letter to the characters: These are black people; this is a black family. It’s a window into that. The same way when I go see A Separation, an Iranian film about an Iranian family, or when I go to see a Korean film, it is a window into that world, and I see them, and I start to understand and value them. They begin to matter to me. WINFREY In the early years of The Oprah Winfrey Show, I was doing an episode about single parenting. I had a black father on, and we had gone to his house and done a taped piece about him putting his two little girls to bed and reading to them. This was around 1989 to 1990, before email, and the white audience wrote letters saying, “I didn’t know black men did that.” That struck a nerve. Then I realized that the best way to show that black people are just like everybody else, or that gay people are just like everybody else, is not to do a show about gay people or black fathers raising their children [but] just to include them in a story about raising children. For Discussion: Spelman College Considers Allowing Transwomen To Enroll

Spelman College May Allow Transgender Students Spelman College, a prestigious HBCU located in Atlanta, GA, is considering shaking up tradition in a major way in the near future. The all-womens’ institution has called together a task force to evaluate the pros, cons, and assess the need for allowing transgender women to enroll in the University. Naturally, we assume this would mean that the students would also be permitted to stay on campus in the all-womens’ dormitories, use the womens’ restroom facilities, locker rooms, etc. as well. Via AJC : Spelman College’s president is convening a task force to provide recommendations on whether the all-women’s, historically black college will admit transgender students. President Mary Schmidt Campbell included the information in a welcome back letter to the campus community on Thursday and posted on the private school’s website. Spelman is the latest prestigious women’s college to consider admitting transgender students. Other institutions, including Barnard College in New York City and the other members of The Seven Sisters association of historical woman’s institutions in the northeast have already enacted policies admitting those students. Of course…a lot of people have A LOT of thoughts about this one — just check social media. Spelman’s all-male “brother school” Morehouse College has already had it’s own controversy with setting dress codes for “cross-dressers” years ago, and it’s doubtful that transwomen would be admitted or at all well-received at that institution…so this seems like an attempt at a solution for students looking to study peacefully among the gender they identify with at the AUC.
