Hundreds of mourners gathered this weekend to pay their final respects to the late Lil Snupe at the emerging rapper’s funeral. He was only 18. According to the Shreveport Times , the funeral service was held Saturday at Jonesboro-Hodge High School in Snupe’s hometown, Jonesboro, La. Mourners reportedly began arriving three hours before the service began. Rapper Meek Mill, who had signed Lil Snupe (born Addaren Ross) to his DreamChasers record label last year, was among the many funeral attendees. Also last week, a 36-year-old man suspected of murdering the teen surrendered to Louisiana police. Tony Holden has been charged with first-degree murder. RIP Snupe.

Via NY Post reports : A young thug was sent silent and sullen to prison today for the random Harlem murder of high school basketball star Tayshana “Chicken” Murphy — instead, his vile Facebook posting from an hour after the shooting spoke for him. “Ville up hoe,” Tyshawn Brockington, 23, had snarled online, a reference to Manhattanville Houses, which was at war with Murphy’s Grant Houses, leaving her as a bloody, innocent casualty in her building’s fourth floor stairwell two years ago. By “Ville up,” the killer had meant that in Murphy’s death, Manhattanville had just notched a one-up victory in the two projects’ senseless war, prosecutors explained. And “Hoe” was the killer’s final blow to the stranger who was his victim — again senseless given her undisputed virtues as a sister, daughter, friend and athlete. “Killing her was not enough,” prosecutor Jeffrey Levinson said of Brockington at the emotional Manhattan Supreme Court sentencing. “He has to call her a pr0stitute, or a sl*t, or a wh*re.” The judge, too, decried Brockington’s Facebook posting before giving him a 25-to-life sentence, the maximum allowed. “Certainly the vile comment – “Ville up hoe” — made an hour later, showed some kind of abhorrent pride in what he had accomplished,” said Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Thomas Farber. Four rows of the fallen basketball stars’ family members, friends and coaches attended the emotional sentencing. “You took her breath,” mom Tephanie Holston said in a victim impact statement, her voice dignified but quavering as she faced her daughter’s murderer. “She wasn’t yours.” Murphy, a senior at Murry Bergtraum High School, had been considered one of the country’s top female point guards. Her dream was to make it big — by shattering the gender barrier in the NBA, the prosecutor said. “She set her sights on playing with the NBA with the men… and she made the promise that once she got there, she was going to bring everybody with her,” he said. Watching the trial had been painful, said the judge. “This is about young people killing other young people. And this is really really tragic to me,” he said. “Sitting through the trial, and watching the videos and thinking about these two housing projects … What could that be,” he said of the bloody rivalries between the two projects, “other than some desire to create a sense of self worth by creating a sense of otherness against people who should be your brothers and sisters. “That to me is incredibly tragic,” he added. “Those bullets ended your life in a significant way as well,” judge told the perp. “I try never to sentence out of vengeance,” he said. “We’re desperately in need of kinship rather than otherness. But I can’t impose in in a case like this any sentence other than the maximum sentence.” Two lives have been effectively lost to gun violence: an 18-year-old girl who died far too young, and a 23-year-old man, who could spend the rest of his life in prison for her murder,” said Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance, Jr., in a written statement issued after the sentencing. “My office will continue to work with communities across Manhattan to put an end to the gang and gun violence that was one of the contributing factors to Ms. Murphy’s untimely death.” SMH. Signs have been pointing all season to Bob trumping Pete for relevance at Sterling Cooper & Partners, and it seems Pete has finally found his counter-attack. But more importantly, we finally know what the hell is up with Bob Benson. After learning that Bob speaks fluent Spanish, and is entirely capable of dropping that placating smile in favor of a more stern, self-assured demeanor, Pete discovers that Bob is not who he says he is. Of course, Pete has some experience with this, having discovered the same thing about Don in Season 1. Bob lied about his upbringing, his education, and his experience, and instead of firing him on the spot, or bringing this to the attention of the Partners, Pete decides to use it to his advantage. Pete certainly is skilled at looking out for himself, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Bob ends up being significantly more cunning that Pete, who has proven that all his self-concern rarely amounts to actually getting ahead. While Pete has basically told Bob that he has to be his slave (and no, not in the way that Bob would have hoped last episode), Bob may show up in the next episode with a smile and a plan to destroy Pete. Mad Men loves taking things at a glacial pace, and hammering home themes through subtle repetition. So the parallels between Bob and Don are intriguing. Pete has always been the guy waiting in Don’s wings. And we’ve all hated him for it. But by introducing someone with such a parallel past to Don, especially at a time when Don himself seems to be regressing rapidly, we may just be in store for a major shakeup between these three characters. The show opens and closes with Don looking mighty fetal. He’s helpless. He’s lost. He’s destroying everything around him. Couple that with the heavy Rosemary’s Baby themes this week, and we’ve got a big old devilish baby Don on our hands. So what has he destroyed this week? Well, despite his best intentions, he continues to alienate Ted and Peggy, once again placing her in the middle of their subtle feud for influence. Peggy’s boiling point seems nearly reached. She was obviously the bad kind of shocked when she learned of the merger earlier in the season, and now she’s more or less got all of her fears justified. Don is a cancer, and she needs to get away from him. Then in Don’s personal life, Megan continues to sense that something is wrong with Don, but somehow can’t figure out what it is (she should be able to take a pretty good guess given his past). Then there’s Sally, who his indiscretions with Sylvia have given the boarding school bug. Sally continues to flirt with rebellion, inviting Glen to bring some booze and pot to her overnight stay at the school. As much as we may expect it, however, Sally proves that she’s not simply looking to “piss off her dad,” as it were, when she rejects Glen’s friend Rolo’s advances out of jealousy that Glen might be fooling around with one of the other girls. But, Sally gets the award for best line of the episode (maybe the season) when Betty coyly suggests that her father has probably given her a beer, and she responds with “My father has never given me anything.” The slow burn of Mad Men gets a little trying at times like this, but next week’s finale is sure to tie up some of these frayed ends in an intriguing way. We’ve had lots of imagery of crime, of accidental violence (now’s probably a good time to mention the opening with Ken getting shot in the face—holy hell!), of intentional violence on a national scale, of collapsing facades, of romantic relationships dying at every turn, of failure and disappointment and endless poor decisions. I can’t help but think that Bob and Megan will be big factors in the finally. We’ll just have to wait and see.
“What will they think of next?” Rich Thompson: Government Assistance Programs Keep Minorities From Voting Republican In yet another desperate attempt to blame anyone but themselves for the lack of support from minorities , a GOP advocate from Georgia recently proclaimed that the African-American and Latino population’s “dependency” on government assistance programs is indirectly responsible for more minorities not voting Republican. via Think Progress Minority voters are too dependent on the government to understand what’s good for them, and that’s why they don’t vote for Republicans, according to a panelist at the influential Faith And Freedom Coalition Conference’s minority outreach discussion. On Friday, Rich Thompson, the founder of a Georgia-based 100 Dads — an organization that advocates for “school choice” — spoke on a panel entitled “The True Rainbow Coalition: Building an Organization in Minority Faith Communities.” There, Thompson suggested that the reason Republicans couldn’t make inroads with voters of color “are being paid by the government” with benefits. He argued that the best thing for Republican minority outreach would be understanding this dynamic, and thus figuring out how to cut federal benefit programs and make minority voters more pliable to free-market views: I learned from a pastor probably over a decade ago who said there’s only three things on this Earth that defy logic: Who’s friends with who, who’s related to who and who’s paying who. So before we leave today I would like each of you to contemplate these things when it comes to reaching out to diverse minority communities. If we speak to the latter, who’s paying who, right now an extremely disproportionate number of people of color are being paid by the government. Therein lies a serious problem. We can’t just cut everybody off instantaneously. But we have to have a serious conversation about how we get people to being producers and not receivers.” So, let’s get this straight. In a nutshell, minority citizens are so thirsty for government assistance that they just can’t turn away from the lure of the Democratic party who makes it all possible…and that’s the reason for the lack of minority Republican voters. Where Are Your Parents? Hopefully not chopping down your friends! Via Mail Online reports : An 11-year-old boy in New Zealand has fathered a child with the 36-year-old mother of his schoolfriend. The revelation has prompted sexual abuse counsellors to call for a reform in the country’s r@pe laws after details of the case first emerged when the boy informed the principal at his school, in South Auckland. The schoolboy and the baby are now both believed to be in care and Justice Minister Judith Collins has said she will look into present legislation which makes it impossible for a woman to be accused of r@pe. She said the case raised an ‘important point’, adding: ‘I will seek advice from officials on whether or not a law change is required,’ The Weekend Herald has reported. The current law states only a man can be accused of r@pe when they force sex. Women who have sex without consent can be charged with sexual violation. Both carry a maximum sentence of 20 years. Child Youth and Family confirmed it was dealing with a case at the school which was going before the courts. The paper has reported the boy approached his principal about two-thirds of the way through the 2012 school year. The contact is understood to have started in April last year when the boy and his friend took a day off school. They spent the day at the friend’s home where the woman gave the boy alcohol and took part in a sexual encounter with him. It is understood the contact lasted for a number of months and the boy had turned 12 by the time the child was born. A CYF worker, who has since retired, told the paper the agency was involved in the case, adding the police would also be making inquiries, although the woman denied the sexual contact. Ken Clearwater, manager of Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse, said if the allegations were true the woman should be held accountable, adding the gender-dependent laws should be changed. Meanwhile, family lawyer Jeremy Sutton said the boy would not have rights to the child unless he was present at birth and that he would have to make a case for access. Teen Dies In Car Accident On The Way To High School Graduation A North Carolina teenager who was riding in the car with his older brother on the way to his high school graduation tragically lost his life before he could reach the ceremony. His mother and family sat in the audience waiting for him to walk across the stage, only to be informed of the fatal crash shortly afterwards. via Techyville A mother’s worst nightmare came into fruition as she sat in the audience of her 17 year old son’s graduation only to be pulled away from the ceremony to hear devastating news. Her two sons, 17 year old Deonta and 24 year old Anthony had been in a fatal car accident on their way to the ceremony. Sandra Williams McGlone, and a host of other family members, were waiting to see her son Deonta Whitaker walk across the stage at his Bertie High School graduation to get his diploma, but instead she was told of the tragedy. “I just can’t describe it. It’s unbelievable. It’s like it’s a dream that I want to wake up from,” said Williams-McGlone. Highway Patrol troopers said that the older brother Anthony was driving the younger brother Deonta to the high school graduation ceremony when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into trees on the road they were traveling. It is suspected that both young men died on impact. The mother, Williams-McGlone stated that Deonta was headed to Elizabeth City State University and he was a scholar. Teacher Arrested For Having Sex With 14-Year-Old Boy According to Mail Online An elementary school teacher and mother-of-two has been charged with performing sex acts on a boy under the age of 14. Malia Brooks, 32, surrendered at Simi Valley police station in California on Tuesday after it was alleged that she had been having sexual relations with a male student at her school. The divorced mother of a young boy and girl is being held on $2million bail after prosecutors dubbed her a flight risk. She pleaded not guilty when she was arraigned on Wednesday at Ventura County Superior Court. The 32-year-old has been charged with one count of a lewd act upon a child, one count of oral copulation of a person under 14 and three counts of genital penetration by a foreign object with a person under 14 years of age when the suspect is more than 10 years older than the victim. Her attorney said outside court that she was suffering from a mental illness and was now receiving treatment, according to NBC. Brooks had taught the 6th grade at Garden Grove Elementary School since 2004, authorities said during a press conference on Wednesday. A police spokesman said: ‘Although a suspect has been arrested, the information is limited in the interest of the victim, his family and the integrity of this investigation.’ The school district had informed the police about the alleged inappropriate relations between a child and teacher on February 22. The teacher was removed from the classroom immediately and later resigned. Police do not suspect that there are any other victims. Garden Grove Elementary School has provided counseling for any children affected by the events. One distraught mother, whose daughter attends the school, told KTLA: ‘My daughter has a good relationship with that teacher and I still don’t believe it.’ She said that parents had been aware that an investigation was taking place and said the school had her full support for ‘trying to minimize the impact on their children’.
