30 Seconds To Mars Call Into The Wild Tour ‘A New Beginning’

‘It’s a massive celebration for us and our fans,’ Jared Leto says. By James Montgomery 30 Seconds to Mars Photo: EMI Music They just wrapped their first-ever run of arena shows in Europe, shot a combat-themed music video for “This Is War” and kicked off the U.S. leg of their Into the Wild tour . So why, with so much forward momentum, does Jared Leto consider everything 30 Seconds to Mars are doing to be a gigantic step back to square one? “I’ve said this before, but the most exciting thing about being in this band right now, is that it feels like the beginning again. Making this album, we rediscovered ourselves, and we emerged as something different,” Leto told MTV News. “We did the tour of Europe, which was a new beginning for us, and now, we’re touring America. And to have not toured here in three years, it’s a massive celebration for us and our fans. We feel like we’re beginning the journey again, here in this country.” The journey actually began on Friday in Las Vegas, when 30STM launched their Into the Wild trek at the Palms Casino Resort’s Pearl Theater. The tour will crisscross the country until mid-May, at which point the band will actually take about a month of before heading back to Europe for the summer fest circuit) — though, as Leto points out, they’re not taking a break willingly. “We’re just really excited, and we don’t want to stop,” he laughed. “This band is never exhausted. We’ve been able to play the songs on [ This Is War ] for audiences in Europe, and now we’re getting to play them for fans here. And right now, that’s what’s most exciting … to have people hear it and experience it.” And just what can fans expect on the U.S. leg of Into the Wild? Leto’s not saying. You’ve got to come out and see the show for yourself. “Like I said, it’s a celebration, it’s emotional, it’s a big, loud show,” he explained. “But, really, you’ve got to come out and see it. That’s the best way to put it.” Are you going to see 30 Seconds to Mars on tour this spring? What song are you looking forward to hearing live? Share your excitement below! MTV’s Musical March Madness Final Four Preview: My Chemical Romance

After a hard-won victory over 30 Seconds to Mars, MCR face Muse in the Final Four. By James Montgomery My Chemical Romance Photo: Chapman Baehler/Getty Images/MTV News Who : The last band standing in the certifiably wild West region in MTV’s Musical March Madness tournament , My Chemical Romance have to be considered the favorites to win it all at this point, based on the bands they’ve bested and the help they’re getting from their friends in 30 Seconds to Mars (more on that in a bit). Up until the departure of drummer Bob Bryar , My Chem were one of the few bands in the tournament who could field an actual basketball team (there were five of them) but even when playing a man down, they’re a formidable squad, with the Way brothers running the show from the guard positions, Frank Iero scoring from the wing, and the indomitable inside presence of Ray Toro. Dude can totally dunk. How They Got Here : My Chem’s tournament was really a story of two halves — everything leading up to their Sweet 16 tilt against 30 Seconds to Mars and everything after it. MCR entered the field as a #5 seed and bounced opening-round opponent Gorillaz with relative ease. In the second round, they were pitted against formidable #4 seed Pearl Jam, and to the surprise of pretty much everyone, they positively rolled them, winning 63-37. That set up the now legendary Sweet 16 bloodfest against 30STM, a battle of bands with unyielding, fervent fanbases (the MCRmy and the Echelon, respectively). It was a back-and-forth affair, and in a fitting twist, it ended up tied, with each band grabbing 50 percent of the vote. After more than 50,000 ballots were counted, MCR were declared the winners (by a scant 327 votes). Though defeated, 30STM threw their support behind My Chem, which resulted in them absolutely destroying Panic! at the Disco in the Elite Eight. The Outlook : With the power of 30 Seconds to Mars behind them — not to mention the might of the MCRmy — there’s really no stopping My Chemical Romance, and a trip to the championship game seems a mere formality at this point. It almost doesn’t matter that they haven’t released a note of new music in more than a year or that their still-untitled fourth album has been in the works for nearly as long (or that they might not have a drummer right now). MCR are balanced, determined and tournament-tested. They’ll face off against Muse in the Final Four and, call us bandwagon-jumpers, but we like their chances. Throughout the day, we’ll be breaking down the four bands still standing in MTV’s Musical March Madness tournament. Voting on the Final Four opens Friday (April 2) on the Newsroom blog and runs until Sunday night. Related Photos Who Will Win MTV’s Musical March Madness?! 30 Seconds To Mars Talk Upcoming North American Tour

Next leg of Into the Wild Tour begins in Las Vegas on April 9. By Kyle Anderson Jared Leto and Tomislav Milicevic of 30 Seconds to Mars Photo: MTV News 30 Seconds to Mars have been a band for over 10 years, but they’re just coming into their own as an elite touring force now. On February 19, they’ll head to the U.K. to begin the first leg of their Into the Wild Tour, which will have them touring all over Europe. But American fans need not worry, as lead singer Jared Leto told MTV News that they’ll be back in North America on April 9 for a show in Las Vegas. “From Elvis to Cirque du Soleil to 30 Seconds to Mars — you’ve got your pick,” Leto says dryly of the band’s visit to the Entertainment Capital of the World. Despite their decade-long existence, the thrill of touring hasn’t waned for Leto and his cohorts. “We did a lot of shows to 20 people in a bar who were more interested in cheap drinks than they were the band,” Leto says. “We’re really excited and we’re grateful for it, and we don’t take it for granted at all.” “I remember just a few years ago there was a show where we sold 800 tickets and we couldn’t believe it,” Leto adds. “The very first show on this tour is 8,000 people, and the next day there’s gonna be 11,000 people there. I’m going to have to get my voice in shape!” “We’re about to go on our first arena tour — we’re crazy excited,” says guitarist Tomislav Milicevic. The inspiration for the name of the tour comes from a lyric from “The Mission,” a song that Leto wrote back in 1999 that appeared on the group’s self-titled debut. “When you go out on the road, it is kind of a venture into the wild. You’re with this group of pirates, from your crew to your bandmates, and you share this insane journey around the world. It’s quite unlike anything else.” “Plus, acceptable levels of hygiene go down when you’re on tour,” Milicevic quipped. Related Artists 30 Seconds To Mars
