Skylar Laine, a young southern gal best known to American Idol fans so far on season 11 for her energy and lively personality on stage, simply stood at the microphone last night and belted out a beautiful version of Bette Midler’s “Wind Beneath My Wings.” It was the sort of rendition we’d have expected from Jessica Sanchez , but Skylar proved her versatility with it, causing us to agree with Jennifer Lopez, who was on the verge of tears by the time Laine completed the cover and told her: You “can sing with the best of them here.” Amen, J. American Idol was chock full of surprises last night. Fans were treated to Skylar Laine slowing things down for once and singing a beautiful rendition of ” Wind Beneath My Wings ” to close the show, while Hollie Cavanagh took to the stage prior and went in the opposite direction. Mixing up a performance from her usual ballads, Cavanagh went with “What a Feeling” from Flashdance and shook her booty right in front of the judges’ table at one point. It was a welcome change, although it came across as a bit forced. Hollie didn’t seem comfortable in her fringed dress, moving and shaking instead of just… singing. What did you think? Tyler Perry’s claim earlier in the week that he was a victim of some not-so-civil treatment by Atlanta police has led to an internal department investigation. The comedian and producer spoke out, in light of the Trayvon Martin case , about racial profiling he allegedly suffered from two officers during a traffic stop. Perry claimed he was questioned unreasonably because he is black, and spared further trouble only after a black officer showed up and recognized Perry. Perry says racial profiling should be a federal offense . While that may never happen, Atlanta police are looking into his claims of misconduct in this case. The Good Deeds director described his version of events in detail on his Facebook page on Sunday, writing that he was driving to the airport at the time. Perry was pulled over for turning left from a right lane, a maneuver he attempted to ensure he wasn’t being followed, as he was without his security detail. According to Perry, who described the ordeal on Facebook, the officer who approached his window asked, “Why do you think someone would follow you?” After which, he wrote, another cop banged on the passenger-side window. The second officer, Perry wrote, asked repeatedly, “What’s wrong with you? Why do you think someone is following you? What’s wrong with you?” Perry claims that the pair of officers continued to badger him about why he might be followed. “It was so hostile. I was so confused,” he wrote. “It was happening so fast; I could easily see how this could get out of hand very quickly. I didn’t feel safe at all. One officer stopped his questioning and said, ‘We may not let you go. You think you’re being followed, what’s wrong with you?'” “At this point, I told him that I wanted to get out of the car. I wanted the passersby to see what was happening.” When he got out, Perry wrote, another officer pulled up – a black male officer – and “took one look” at Perry, “an ‘oh no’ look on his face.” “He immediately took both officers to the back of my car and spoke to them in a hushed tone,” he continued. “After that, one of the officers stayed near his car while one came back, very apologetic. Clayton Osbon, a JetBlue pilot, had to be restrained Tuesday after suffering a panic attack on board a flight from New York’s JFK airport to Las Vegas. The FAA called the incident a medical emergency. The unruly captain was subdued by at least five passengers after his co-pilot locked him out of the cockpit after displayed potentially dangerous behavior. The flight was diverted to Amarillo, Texas. JetBlue Pilot Flips Out, Subdued by Passengers Osbon, a commercial pilot since 1989, was not at the controls but “began acting erratically, flipping switches in the cockpit and appearing confused.” Sources say that his co-pilot tricked him into going to the passenger area to check something, then locked the door and changed the security code. “The captain of the plane just went berserk,” passenger Wayne Honlnes said. “He came out of the other end of the plane … came running back to the cockpit and he was shouting out numbers … 500 something. He started banging on the cockpit door.” While Osbon was in the cabin, an off-duty JetBlue pilot traveling on the flight managed to enter the cockpit and help land the plane in Texas. JetBlue said in a statement: “Another captain, traveling off duty, entered the flight deck prior to landing at Amarillo, and took over the duties of the ill crewmember once on the ground.” “The aircraft arrived Amarillo at 10:11 am CT, and the crewmember was removed from the aircraft and taken to a local medical facility.” Passenger David Gonzalez, a former corrections officer from New York City, said he was sitting in the second row of flight 191 when he saw the captain storm out of the cockpit and rush toward an occupied bathroom. Flight attendants struggled to control him and Gonzalez, 50, said the captain began moving in the direction of the plane’s emergency exit. Gonzalez said he had gone to help the flight attendant and asked the captain what his problem was. Gonzalez said the pilot replied, “You’d better start praying right now,” and was shouting about Al Qaeda, a bomb, and the plane crashing. “I was actually the one that took him down. I noticed he was very erratic,” Gonzalez said. “He was pinned against the door. I was afraid he was going to knock down the door. I was able to put a choke hold on him.” “I was able to get him weak from cutting his wind pipe.” “When he buckled, I realized I had him where I need him. So I put a little more pressure, and that’s when he almost passed out. So I threw him to the floor.” “That’s when the team came in and started helping me … I just didn’t want him opening up that door. I knew if he got in there, we wouldn’t be sitting here now.” Gonzalez felt the man get weak and he passed out about three minutes later. The men, who took off their belts to tie his legs, as Osbon was reportedly able to break through plastic handcuffs, sat on the pilot until landing.

These fools were trying to get it poppin by any means necessary: The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an internal review of operations after a maximum-security inmate crawled into the cell of a female prisoner for a sexual tryst. Sheriff Kevin Joyce said during a press conference Monday that Arien L’Italien, 23, of Biddeford, was spotted early Saturday morning by a corrections officer as L’Italien tried to get back to his cell block after a consensual encounter with inmate Karla Wilson. L’Italien is being held on federal charges of attempted murder of a federal officer and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was arrested in January following a shootout on Mellen Street with the U.S. Marshals’ Violent Offender Task Force. He was being sought by the task force in connection with a New Year’s Day stabbing in Biddeford. Wilson, a 25-year-old from Portland, is awaiting trial on four counts of gross sexual assault and two counts of aggravated assault. Joyce said L’Italien was out of his cell for about an hour before he was spotted early Saturday morning. L’Italien made his bed to look as if it was occupied and used some kind of material to prevent the lock of his cell from latching properly, Joyce said. Wilson also used material to keep her cell lock open, the sheriff said. He said officers later were able to manipulate a cell lock to stay open using paper towels and a credit card. Joyce said L’Italien and Wilson, who knew each other, somehow arranged their tryst using the jail’s ventilation system. He said that likely involved other prisoners passing messages. The sheriff said he was particularly concerned about the security breach because of the danger L’Italien – or any inmate unexpectedly out of a cell – poses to corrections officers. “That’s a huge issue. This guy is not a good guy, that’s why he’s in here,” Joyce said. The internal investigation is being conducted to see if any policies were violated and what policies should be changed as a result of the incident. Joyce said it is too soon to say if any corrections officers will be disciplined. Joyce said L’Italien and Wilson will likely face disciplinary action at the jail, but not criminal charges. Waka Flocka Flame will have to perform his next few concerts in North Carolina without his security team. The State of North Carolina Protective Services Board has issued a cease and desist letter to Waka, saying Flocka’s security is unlicensed in the state . According to TMZ , the Protective Services Board mentioned the past incident with Waka Flocka’s security returning gun fire to various cars after their tour bus was shot at . North Carolina refuses to allow Waka Flocka to have any members of his entourage in any security detail in public or private while they’re in the state. If Flocka or his team defy the state regulations, Flocka and company will face criminal charges. People close to Waka Flocka’s camp say the Protective Services Board is just trying to harass the rapper.
