Selena Gomez ‘Stoked’ To Nab Britney Spears Song

‘It’s awesome,’ the die-hard Brit fan says of getting to record ‘Whiplash’ for her album. By Christina Garibaldi Selena Gomez Photo: MTV News With her album When the Sun Goes Down set to be released on June 28, and her first big-screen movie “Monte Carlo” hitting theaters on July 1, Selena Gomez has been on a whirlwind promotional tour (her recent hospitalization doesn’t seem to have slowed the young starlet one bit). Last week, in the midst of all that, a couple of tracks from her LP hit the Internet, including one co-written by none other than the pop princess herself, Britney Spears. MTV News caught up with the Disney star on Friday and we asked her about “Whiplash,” the uptempo Spears dance tune. Gomez, who is a die-hard Britney fan , said she was excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with one of her idols. “It’s awesome,” Gomez said of the leaked track. “It was an honor and I’m completely stoked.” But when she was initially given “Whiplash,” a track that reportedly failed to make Spears’ Circus album, the “Wizards of Waverly Place” actress was unaware that Spears had helped to write the song. “I just heard the song; I fell in love with it,” Gomez said. “They gave it to me, the producers who worked on it, and I came and sang and saw that she had co-written it, so I was very excited.” Yet the ties to Spears don’t end there for Gomez. Next month, she hits the road for her first headlining summer tour, and she’ll pay homage to the Femme Fatale. “We are working on a few cover songs. We are working on a Britney tribute ,” Gomez told MTV News earlier this year. “I wanna do a mash-up of all her songs and just go for it ‘ … Baby One More Time,’ and then I think we’re going to try to incorporate ‘Toxic’ and that phase. And then we might do some of her recent, new stuff.” Related Artists Selena Gomez Britney Spears

Selena Gomez: I Never Wanted to Be a Role Model

Selena Gomez never wanted to be a role model. However, the 18-year-old actress and singer has learned to embrace it anyway, she says in the upcoming E! Entertainment Special: Selena Gomez . “I’m human, I’m not perfect,” Gomez admits . “I make mistakes all the time, but I guess my job is to keep those mistakes to myself, which I’m already fine doing and just try to be the best I can be for those kids.” Being a role model isn’t easy when you’re still growing up yourself . “I never really said I want to be a role model. But when it happened I was so down for it,” Gomez admits, having just been hospitalized due to malnourishment and exhaustion, which led to her mom telling her to slow down . She’s doing better now, but it’s an ongoing battle. While the Texas-born beauty has enjoyed much success at a young age, she didn’t have an easy childhood and struggled with her parents’ divorce. Gomez’s high-profile romance with Justin Bieber has made headlines, making it tough to stay comfortable in the spotlight and manage her fame. “This is a very superficial job,” Gomez says. “I sit in a chair for two hours and get hair and makeup done and talk about [myself] in interviews.” “That’s a very vain thing to do. I do get caught up in it sometimes.” Give her credit for recognizing the pitfalls of celebrity at such a young age and trying to keep life in perspective as well as a teenager possibly can. We wish her all the best. For a look at Selena’s latest musical effort, follow this link and listen to ” Whiplash ,” a collaboration with Britney Spears! [Photo: WENN.com]

Paris Hilton and Cy Waits: On the Rocks?

Paris Hilton and Cy Waits, her boyfriend of more than a year now, are going through a rough patch, a source close to the couple says. So is it over? Not right now. The couple are still in love, but they are figuring out if they should break up or stay together after a recent series of spats and fights . “Paris and Cy love each other a lot. They are still together right now, but they are deciding on what to do,” the source says, citing their schedules. We’ll see if Cy Waits this thing out or heads for the hills. “Paris is extremely busy running her business empire and travels a lot. Cy is based in Las Vegas, and he has a daughter in elementary school.” “He’s a very doting dad so he doesn’t like to be away from her.” That’s understandable … as are Cy’s concerns about the World According to Paris and dating someone as high profile as the ho-tel heiress. “Basically, they have hit a rough patch. Paris’ family loves Cy, and they do genuinely love each other, but things are tough at the moment.” “Cy isn’t happy about how he is being portrayed on Paris’ reality show and truthfully, I don’t know if he can deal with living in Paris’ shadow.” “Paris and Cy are taking their time and working out what to do. They want to make a mutual decision about their future,” adds the friend. They’ve been through multiple attacks and one joint arrest, and have weathered plenty of tabloid scrutiny to boot. But can they persevere? “They both want to do what is best for each of them in the end. There is no one else involved, there is no cheating is going on, period.” That’s good at least. Here’s hoping they work it out for the best.

Selena Gomez Blames Poor Eating Habits For Illness

‘I’m good now, thank you. I’m so much better,’ she says on radio show in Texas. By Jocelyn Vena Selena Gomez Photo: Toby Canham/ Getty Images Selena Gomez is doing much better after her health scare last week. She appeared on the Kidd Kraddick in the Morning radio show on Thursday (June 16), days after performing in Santa Monica , appearing healthy and in good spirits and updating fans on how she’s feeling. “I’m good now, thank you. I’m so much better,” she told Kraddick in her home state of Texas. “I do eat. The problem is I don’t eat right. I love everything that’s possibly not good for me.” The singer was treated at the hospital on June 9 for food poisoning and exhaustion after becoming ill following her appearance on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.” Gomez said she’s trying to get her diet back on track and has a special someone — her mother — helping her out. “She’s definitely shoving vitamins down my throat and following me around,” she explained about the steps her “supermom” is taking to get her healthy again. “But at the same time, I was a stubborn kid, so I got to eat whatever I wanted. I have to have creamed spinach or cheese on my broccoli. I have to have something that makes it not healthy.” So, what else does she love to eat? “I love M&M’s, Kit Kats, Snickers and Goobers at the movies,” she admitted. Although fans showed support for Gomez when they found out she was ill, she confessed that sometimes it’s hard to be famous. But she’s not letting it stop her from living her life. “It’s a very hard thing because for me, it’s not about being public about anything, but I don’t want to live my life being afraid of what people are going to say about me,” she said of dating and living life in the public eye. “I lived that way for the first four years I was in the business and I was very unhappy.” Related Photos Selena Gomez Performs At The Santa Monica Mall

Christina Grimmie: Compare Me To Christina Aguilera Or Rebecca Black

‘They can compare me to whoever … Batman!’ Selena Gomez’s tourmate declares. By Christina Garibaldi Christina Grimmie Photo: MTV News YouTube sensation Christina Grimmie is having a big summer so far. The self-proclaimed “rocker chick” with the dance-pop sound just dropped her debut EP, Find Me , on Tuesday, and it’s currently #3 on the iTunes charts. Her close pal Selena Gomez is back on her feet after a brief hospital scare. And she is scheduled to hit the road next month with Selena Gomez & The Scene and All Star Weekend. The up-and-coming pop star doesn’t just credit her managers (Gomez’s parents), Mandy and Brian Teefey, for her newfound fame. She also knows she owes a lot of her success to her YouTube channel . Grimmie’s videos have been viewed more than 142 million times by fans eager to see the 17-year-old’s reworked covers of current pop songs. “It started out for fun,” Grimmie said about posting videos. “Even though singing is what I want to do, I started out like, ‘Hey, lets try this out’ kind of thing, and then it just grew into something bigger, and that’s why I’m here.” Of course, YouTube has also been a career starting point for a few other newbies on the scene, like Justin Bieber and divisive singer Rebecca Black, who gained notoriety with her infectious “Friday.” How does Grimmie feel about being compared to Black? “Comparisons are comparisons, and they’re gonna happen.” Grimmie said. “If you want to compare me to Rebecca Black, go ahead. I’m sure she’s a great girl. I don’t know her, but you know comparisons happen. … They can compare me to whoever … Batman! That would be great.” And, since starting out, she’s also gotten a super-flattering comparison. “I’ve gotten compared to Christina Aguilera,” she laughed, “which feels good, because I love her so much!”

Selena Gomez Fans Call Her ‘Role Model’ Material

‘There’s not many actresses that can really inspire little girls in the right way,’ one admirer says after teen star’s concert. By Kara Warner Selena Gomez Photo: Jeffrey Mayer/ WireImage Despite the fact that Selena Gomez had to cancel her appearance at the Santa Monica Place mall last Friday, plenty of screaming Selena fans returned to see her rescheduled performance at the mall on Monday afternoon, where Gomez thanked the crowd for their support and revealed that she was “feeling much better” after being hospitalized briefly over the weekend. Following her two-song set, MTV News caught up with a few of Gomez’s die-hard fans, who expressed their love and well-wishes for the 18-year-old star. “I really love her,” young fan Kirsten Mitchell gushed. “I still love her voice, I still love her clothing, and I love everything she did. I love her!” “She’s my role model,” Brianna Akopyn said. “She’s my inspiration.” “It’s not only that she’s famous,” Alexa Kovacs added. “Obviously, we love her because of that, but she helps people, she does things for everything, that’s just awesome to me.” “Ever since ‘Barney,’ I used to watch her on [‘Barney & Friends’] and I’ve been with her since the beginning,” Akopyn revealed. “She’s such a great role model for everyone, including little girls. There’s not many actresses that can really inspire little girls in the right way, and she can.” Speaking to Gomez’s recent illness, Alexandra Pulido said no one could really tell that Selena had been under the weather. “I heard that she was sick over the radio back home where we live, she felt nauseated and stuff,” she said. “But she sang really well today, she didn’t show any of that.” We then asked fans to send Gomez their love via our video camera. “Hey Selena, I love you so much,” Pulido enthused. “I hope you’re doing better. Say ‘Hi’ to Justin [Bieber] for me.” “We love you so much,” Kovacs added. “Thanks for everything, keep it up.” “We hope you’re doing good,” continued Akopyn. “Keep up the good work, we love you.” “Congrats on Justin,” said Kovacs with a smile. “Yeah, he’s a lucky guy,” Akopyn added.
