Senate panel rejects a ‘public option’

In a vote of 15-8 the Senate Finance Committee rejected efforts to include the public option in it's HCR proposal. It is the only proposal that is without such an option in the House or Senate

Senate passes measure to allow gun transport on Amtrak

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Amtrak would lose its federal subsidies if it doesn't put a system in place by early next year to check and track firearms so that passengers can legally put the weapons in their checked baggage, the Senate voted Wednesday. More…

Baucus HCR proposal: Worth the Wait?

Senator Max Baucus of the Senate Finance Committee released his committee's health care reform proposal .Though it would meet most of President Obama's goals, it does not supply a government insurance option (as other Senate packages do) or an alternative to one. Originally, the proposal was supposed to be bi-partisan, however it seems only Olympia Snowe of Maine will support it. The proposal is under fire from Democrats, such as Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va), who believe the package is not strong enough.

The US oil and gas lobby are planning to stage public events to give the appearance of a groundswell of public opinion against legislation that is key to Barack Obama's climate change strategy, according to campaigners.
