This selection from Have Yourself a Movie Little Christmas gives us a horror hit that forever changed portrayals of Christmas — not to mention the MPAA : On a trip to New York City, unsuccessful inventor Rand Peltzer (Hoyt Axton) searches for a Christmas present for his son Billy (Zach Galligan), and in Chinatown he finds an adorable creature known as a mogwai. The old shopkeeper (Keye Luke) refuses to sell it, but his grandson secretly lets Rand have it for $300. There are rules to be followed in keeping the creature: Keep it away from bright light, don’t let it get wet, and don’t feed it after midnight.

Leighton Meester Planning To Leave ‘Gossip Girl’

The actress tells E! News that she’ll spend ‘two more years’ on the CW show. By Jocelyn Vena Leighton Meester Photo: David Livingston/ Getty Images It seems that Leighton Meester won’t be gossiping on the small screen for too much longer. The actress recently dished to E! News that she would be bidding her role as Blair Waldorf a fond farewell and leaving “Gossip Girl” behind after “two more years.” The singer/actress had a really good reason why she has such a specific time frame for when she’s plans to exit the CW show. “Because we’re under contract,” she explained. The actress, who appears in the upcoming Gwyneth Paltrow flick “Country Strong,” added that while she’s ready to leave the series behind, she “obviously enjoys working on the show and living in New York.” She maintained that producers are supportive of her decision, as well as the choice of her other castmates to pursue outside interests. “It allows you to be ready for when the show’s over,” Meester said, adding, “I don’t know [if the series will end when I leave,] but I think there’s that old saying about wanting to go out on top.” Fellow “Gossip Girl” starlet Taylor Momsen recently was put on indefinite hiatus from the program. The actress, like Meester, has been busy pursuing a music career — with her band the Pretty Reckless — and also is the face of Madonna’s Material Girl clothing company and John Galliano’s latest perfume campaign. Meester has a long-simmering solo album in the works, and has several films under her belt, including “Monte Carlo” with Selena Gomez and Corey Monteith and “The Roommate” co-starring lookalike actress Minka Kelly. While her move from the small screen to the big screen is already under way, that doesn’t mean she wouldn’t consider returning to TV. “Um, I never say never,” Meester said. “It would have to be the right show just like it would have [to be] the right movie.” What do you think about Meester’s plans to leave “Gossip Girl”? Tell us in the comments.

Community Casts Hilary Duff for Mean Girls Spoof

That Community is planning on doing a Mean Girls spoof shouldn’t surprise you, but who the series is bringing aboard to play the Queen Bee just might. Hilary Duff will join the cast of the NBC comedy during November sweeps as a member of a clique that torments our favorite study group. That’s great and all, but really: No room for Lizzy Caplan? Lone Star Gets Devoured in the Ratings

Despite near unanimous praise — and Movieline’s approval — a paltry 4 million viewers tuned in to watch the series premiere of Lone Star last night, which is a shame for anyone who likes good network television and not fat jokes . Speaking of which, Mike & Molly was viewed by over 12 million people making it the biggest premiere of the night and moving us one step closer to the end of days. Good choices, everyone! [ HitFix ]

Megan Fox Says Seeing ‘Transformers 3’ Will Be ‘Weird’

‘I might be a little jealous when I see somebody kissing my Shia,’ Fox tells MTV News. By Mawuse Ziegbe Megan Fox Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images Megan Fox may have left the cast of “Transformers 3,” but that doesn’t mean she’s completely snubbing the franchise. In fact, when MTV News caught up with the actress at the Toronto Film Festival, Fox insisted that she plans to check out the latest installment of the fantasy juggernaut. “I will see it,” Fox said. “I’m gonna see it.” The actress did admit that watching the battle of the ‘bots continue on without her will be fairly odd. “I might be a little jealous when I see somebody kissing my Shia [LaBeouf], wearing my jeans that I … already had been fit for,” Fox conceded. “It’s kind of weird, actually.” Fox also observed that her replacement, onscreen newcomer and Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley , won’t work the leading-lady role quite like her. “She’s 6 feet tall also, so maybe they’re not the exact same jeans,” Fox quipped about the ad-campaign vet slated to play LaBeouf’s love interest Carly . “But it will be strange.” As much as the actress admits that a Fox-free “Transformers 3” will be a little hard for her to handle, her former co-star has pined for her presence as well. While filming the 2011 release, LaBeouf commented earlier this year that he missed Fox’s contributions to the series. “I love Megan and I miss the girl,” LaBeouf said . “But Sam and [Fox’s character] Mikaela became one character, and here … you have discovery again from a new perspective.” Despite the headline-grabbing cast shake-up, many details about the upcoming “Transformers” film have remained under wraps. However, director Michael Bay has insisted that the third installment, which will be released in 3-D and will abandon the “dorky comedy” aspects, will likely signal the end of the series. “As a trilogy, it really ends,” Bay said. “It could be rebooted again, but I think it has a really killer ending.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Transformers 3.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Real Housewives of New Jersey Reunion Part 2: By the Numbers

Bravo closed the curtain on the Real Housewives of New Jersey ‘s second season last night, and there were tears, fake apologies, and (best of all) one dramatic weave-pull re-enactment courtesy of Andy Cohen and Danielle Staub. In the tradition of last week’s Real Housewives of New Jersey recap, Movieline is again applying the By the Numbers scorecard to Staub’s last episode on the series ever . Here are our findings:

What’s On: To the Moon, Padma!

Let’s talk about how wacky tonight’s Top Chef challenge is: It’s so bizarre that the show may lose the dignity it accrued by winning the Best Reality Competition Series Emmy. You might even call the challenge “out of this world.” And you would be correct. Literally.

Marxists Take Piranha 3D’s Side Against James Cameron

” We ourselves are the ‘piranhas,’ ogling after this commodified flesh,” writes Jacques de Molay, a Marxist professor of neurosemiotics who went long — but not quite Mark Canton long — on the economic metaphors of the T&A gorepalooza Piranha 3D . “Here one begins to appreciate the sophistication of [director Alexandre] Aja’s vision, in comparison to the similarly 3D-mad James Cameron.” Ha! Take that, Jim! You did not invent piscine dialectics. [ Libertas ]
