Lil Wayne Wants Drake’s Thank Me Later To Sell 2 Million The First Week

‘I need him to do more than that Carter III, ‘ Weezy says in new ‘Nino Brown Story, Pt. 3’ footage. By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne Photo: MTV News Lil Wayne has huge aspirations for Young Money franchise player Drake. But hey, you don’t become as big a superstar as Wayne is by thinking small. In footage from DJ Scoob Doo’s upcoming “Nino Brown Story, Pt. 3” DVD, Weezy calls Mack Maine from prison, and they talk about the sales of Drake’s upcoming Thank Me Later. Wayne hadn’t heard the completed LP before he went to prison in March. “What that boy’s sh– sounding like?” Wayne asks Mack. “A million in a week?” “Yeah. Like a classic. Big money,” Mack answers. “A million in a week? I need him to do more than that Carter III, ” Weezy adds of his breakthrough album, which sold more than 1 million copies in its debut week. “Like 2 million in the first week. I need him to do 2 million the first week, straight up.” “Let’s get it. Ya heard me,” Mack answers with a smile. “We gotta put this out.” Wayne then goes back to asking his nearly lifelong friend about the music on Thank Me Later. “What’s it sounding like? He singing his ass off?” the YM CEO asks. “That n—a got some songs,” Mack says with excitement. “One of them he let me hear, ‘Karaoke.’ It was some singing, I was like, ‘When your part come in?’ Picture that was him the whole time. I’m like, ‘Who this n—a? When your verse come in?’ That n—a got different tones now, blood. He’s got different tones now. Sh– we ain’t never heard before. He’s killing it.” Wayne later tells Mack that his own Tha Carter IV is going to be another major project and that he wants Thank Me Later to sell 10 million copies overall. “I need [Drake] to do diamond,” Wayne says. “And I try to top that. I need him to do that. He’s gonna sell.” While in prison, Wayne is already thinking about his first performance when he comes home. “Come straight offstage with the [state] greens on and just go stupid on them,” Wayne says of what he’s going to do. “I should do it the same night I get out.” How many copies do you think Drake’s debut will sell its first week? Styles P Says The LOX Are In The Studio For Group Album, Solo LPs

‘Now that we all there at the same time, it brings better energy and better thoughts,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid The LOX Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Styles P says the LOX are cooking up a slew of products individually and collectively. All three members, Jadakiss, Sheek Louch and, of course, SP the Ghost, are recording together. “We working on the LOX right now and all the solos at once — Sheek solo, my solo, ‘Kiss solo, mixtapes. That’s our plan for the summer right now,” he said. “Since we all in the lab, we going in. Now that we all there at the same time, it brings better energy and better thoughts. Even while I’m working on my solo, I like that input: ‘All right, P, go here with it’ or ‘go there with it.’ ‘You should do that kinda song.’ I was in a Louch session the other day, and somebody was there for beats for him; he got two beats for me. It wasn’t nothing there for him in the beat session, but he heard two beats he knew I would like and go in on. It makes for a better energy and better fit. We just working and making our legacy grow. LOX forever.” Styles said there isn’t a distinct method of choosing which songs go for the LOX album or each MC’s solo project. “Follow your instincts,” he said. “The first thought that pops in your head. It depends on how it go. If I hear something, I might be like, ‘This is for the group, this sounds crazy.’ I’ll call them up, three-way: ‘Listen. You like?’ If one of them don’t like it, then I use it for myself. If they like, we use it for the group.” Although the squad is still making music, Styles said they will likely not go with the title they had revealed previously: Live, Suffer, Celebrate. “We’ll probably change it, ’cause we got a lot of ideas and thoughts in our brains. “We don’t let down when it comes to these bars,” SP added. “We really just trying to handle our business first. Business-wise, it looks like it’s being handled pretty well. We’re trying to keep our heads on our shoulders and make solid music. It’s well-known producers that’s definitely going to be out there. But we also giving a shot to anybody with mean beats that got that LOX sound that we can appreciate and the world can appreciate.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc .

Drake ‘Didn’t Respect’ Lil’ Kim Dissing Nicki Minaj

‘That just wasn’t G to me at all,’ he tells MTV’s ‘Sucker Free’ of Kim’s onstage comments. By Shaheem Reid Drake and Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News Drake said that, even without an album, Nicki Minaj is the best female MC to ever do it. So the 23-year-old MC was pretty ticked off at Lil’ Kim and Ray J’s recent onstage comments that Minaj is biting Kim’s style and that Nicki needs to pay homage to her. Drake elaborated on his anger while talking to DJ Envy on MTV’s “Sucker Free” over the weekend. “I feel like Lil’ Kim is a G in the game. I feel like you’re a part of an era that’s classic, that we’ll never forget as young kids, me and Nick,” he said of his Young Money family member. “You don’t have to do that. You don’t have to get onstage and tell people to pay homage; that’s a given. I’ve watched Nicki pay homage time and time again. I didn’t respect [Kim’s comments] at all. Whoever else was onstage with her, I didn’t respect that at all. You just wearing your heat on your sleeve. You’re showing that you’re upset. Nobody’s done that to me yet. I would never expect Jay or ‘Ye to get onstage and be like, ‘Pay homage to me. You need to respect me.’ They know they command my respect with their music and talent. I feel that’s signs you’re just losing it. I really did take that personally. That bothered me. I really don’t get caught up with the Twitter and Internet stuff, but I did see it. And I feel like you’re supposed to be a G. That just wasn’t G to me at all.” For her part, Lil’ Kim told Philadelphia radio host Kendra G on Philly 100.3 on Saturday that “all females that come in the game, we need to stick together, and I always try my best to embrace them. But what happens is, when they come in the game and they realize that I’m not going away, and my fans are still here and they can’t just step on me, they get upset, and then they don’t want to be my friend anymore. I think that’s really childish and stupid. Because all I ask for is respect, and I show the same respect back. Pay homage. At the end of the day, a lot of things go on behind the scenes that people don’t know about. It will be aired out, because you can’t hide the truth.” Nicki hasn’t spoken in public about Kim’s comments, but she has hinted on her Twitter page that she is taking the high road. “Raise ya hand if u don’t have 2 diss ppl to feel better about urself,” she wrote on Thursday. “Jealousy is a disease. It kills @ a fast pace. Kisses 2 my bad bi—es” Do you think Lil’ Kim was out of line in her comments to Nicki Minaj? Let us know below! Related Artists Nicki Minaj Drake

Full clip premieres Saturday at midnight on MTV. By Shaheem Reid Eminem in “Not Afraid” music video Photo: Interscope The rollout for Recovery is in full swing. Eminem’s new video for “Not Afraid” premieres Saturday at midnight on MTV, and a 15-second clip from the video has hit the Web. In the preview, Marshall Mathers seems to have trouble on his mind. We see him standing on the ledge of a roof, in a basement throwing a chair against the wall and walking the streets of Newark, New Jersey. Em, of course, is no stranger to the Brick City. He used to run heavy with NJ rap collective the Outsidaz, which included Young Zee, Pace Won and Rah Digga. “Not Afraid” debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 a few weeks ago and has been well-received by fans . Em has been overseas promoting Recovery, which drops June 22. On Friday morning (June 4), while speaking to BBC’s Radio 1 , he briefly delved into why he wanted “Not Afraid” to be the lead single from his new project. “It was one of them records that, as soon as it was finished, I felt like it should be the one,” he said on the show. He also revealed why he wanted Rihanna on a track called “Love the Way You Lie.” It was one of them songs I felt like it would be more special with her on it. Rihanna is super talented too.” While in France a few days ago, he opened up about the upcoming album’s next single, “Won’t Back Down,” revealing that Pink was added to the track after it was completed. “When I did the song that I did with Pink, I laid my parts first and kind of heard her on the record and felt that she would smash this record,” Em said. Drake, The Game Say Album Leaks Can Be A Good Thing

Chamillionaire, Paul Wall also agree that artists can’t blame poor sales on early bootlegs. By Shaheem Reid Chamillionaire and Paul Wall Photo: MTV News Drake has been anointed by many fans and journalists alike as hip-hop’s new golden master of ceremonies, but he is not exempt from the same problem plaguing most musicians these days. Bootleggers leaked his much-anticipated Thank Me Later LP earlier this week, but the Toronto MC took it stride, tweeting, “I gave away free music for years so we’re good over here.” Drake told TheLifeFiles.com that the word of mouth won’t hurt him. “It’s a honor to make this dream come true for Wayne, and I’m excited to start my journey,” he said of the new album, which he previewed for the press on Wednesday. “I always say, if I would have put out an album that was poor quality, I think the leaks would have hurt me. Because a lot of the feedback has been great, it can only help.” The Game spoke about the inevitability of leaking when he stopped by the MTV Newsroom on Wednesday. “Every album is getting leaked from now until the duration of hip-hop,” he said. “It’s just once it hits the plant, or once a radio station gets their promo, somebody is gonna leak the album. You can look forward to it being leaked a week early or whatever. It’s gonna get leaked.” Chamillionaire and Paul Wall weighed in as well. And though they agreed that an MC’s ire is definitely raised when his album leaks early, for the most part, it doesn’t hurt too much. “You can’t not be bothered by that,” Cham told MTV News. “Because you wonder, is that a sale that I could have made? You hate to see all your hard work that you went to the studio doing. We done seen bootleggers riding 28s. We like, ‘Man, they eating good off of us.’ But we understand; you just gotta give them that music. If it’s dope, they gonna come buy it. I don’t think Drake or anybody else should worry if it’s dope. If people want it, it’s gonna create enough hype. 50 Cent, even Lil Wayne, everybody suffered from leaks and some people benefited from it.” Wall agreed that leaks can do as much good as they do harm. “If the album don’t sell good — that’s just not Drake, this is every artist — then [they say], ‘Oh, it got bootlegged.’ If it does great, then they’ll be like, ‘Oh, it does great ’cause the bootleg got out, and it let everybody know this was legit.’ It goes both ways.” Game suggested that any artists who complain that leaks hurt their sales should stop making excuses and make better music. “Lil Wayne showed me that,” Game said. “His album leaked four weeks before Tha Carter III was supposed to come out, and he sold a million the first week. That’s just an excuse. … It’s no longer acceptable because people are still selling.” Do you think leaks can help as much as they hurt? Talk about it in the comments. Rick Ross Says Diddy Is Bringing Him To ‘Bigger And Better Things’

‘Book deals, endorsements, clothing lines, films, books,’ are some of the possibilities mogul has brought to Ross. By Shaheem Reid Rick Ross Photo: MTV News Rick Ross said he and Diddy are considering their professional bond more of a partnership. Ross says he didn’t really need a regular manager. “Me and my brother, Gucci Poochie — I came up from the streets with him — we really been doing this ourselves for the last few years,” Ross explained. “Gucci is me; really, I would say I was self-managed because my partner Gucci is me, we been doing it ourselves for so long. So the small, everyday managerial things, that was unnecessary [to involve Diddy in] at this point. “It was the even bigger and better things that are on the horizon, which continue to present themselves every day — things I never considered up to this point. Book deals, now we’re considering liquor endorsements, clothing lines, films, books. Me and F. Gary Gray [who directed Ross’ “Super High” video ] are talking about doing some things. I just wanna make sure I make the right decisions when those things present themselves. “The more time you spend with [Diddy], you understand the importance of relationships,” he added about what he’s learned from the legendary businessman. “In these few weeks, just the moves we’ve made have been big. Just us pulling off this F. Gary Gray video …” Diddy also produced some tracks on Ross’ forthcoming Teflon Don album , due July 6, and weighed in on other tracks as well. “I had a listening session just for our immediate circle: Diddy was in there, F. Gary Gray was in there,” Ross explained. “[Bad Boy Executive] Harve [Pierre], DJ Khaled, [Diddy’s manager] James Cruz, Gucci was in the building. We went through so many records. Just to hear Diddy’s input on the smallest things, from percussions, to snares, the production of the production. That’s what I want. That’s what I respect.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Rick Ross Related Artists Rick Ross (Hip-Hop) Diddy

Rick Ross Talks About ‘Secrets’ Shared With Kanye West

Pair collaborated on ‘club banger’ called ‘Live Fast, Die Young’ for Ross’ Teflon Don LP. By Shaheem Reid Rick Ross Photo: Akshay Bhansali The respect level between Def Jam labelmates Rick Ross and Kanye West is so (super) high, that the two just don’t collaborate on songs, they share in-studio recording secrets, musician to musician. Ross went to Hawaii earlier this year to work with West on his Teflon Don LP, due July 6. “It was my first time there,” Ross said about his trip to West’ island sanctuary. “Just to see how beautiful it was — how serene it was. Just to walk into this orbit — I like to call it — which Kanye creates his music in. We both were having breakfast one morning and we were talking, we both were telling each other just recording secrets, things that artists don’t usually share with each other.” The Bawse said Kanye dropped a gem on him that was remarkable and unexpected. “One of the most incredible things he said — or really that I’ve heard in my whole career — he told me and showed me how to hear sounds in colors,” Ross said. “I was mesmerized, but I don’t wanna go too deep into it. We came up with a record called ‘Live Fast and Die Young,’ I can’t wait for it to hit the streets. You’re going to hear it real soon.” Despite the serious title, Ross said the tune will bring people out to the dance floor. “Most definitely!,” the Miami MC promised. “It’s gonna be most definitely a club banger, but it has that edge to it. That’s how ‘Ye loves to make music, he loves to take it to the edge. That’s where we went with it. It makes you feel like if you had that one record the rest of your life to play, that’s it right here. It’s really gonna make you feel good. We both talk about seeing the pitfalls in our rearview [mirror]. It’s a feel-good record.” “Live Fast and Die Young” is under serious consideration to be Teflon Don ‘s second official single, following up the Ne-Yo assisted “Super High.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Rick Ross Related Artists Rick Ross (Hip-Hop) Kanye West

Is ‘Sex And The City 3’ On The Way? Kim Cattrall Weighs In

‘I think there’s more stories to be told,’ she tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kim Cattrall Photo: MTV News The second “Sex and the City” movie hasn’t even hit theaters yet, but that doesn’t mean fans aren’t wondering if the girls will get together for a third flick. Kim Cattrall said the only person who can decide the fate of the franchise is writer/director Michael Patrick King, and if he wants her to come back again to play man-crazy PR maven Samantha Jones, she’s there in an instant — as long as she doesn’t have to come up with the story line. “That’s totally not up to me, thank God! Thank God I don’t have to write that third script,” she told MTV News while promoting “Sex and the City 2,” which hits theaters Thursday. “That would be so daunting, but that’s up to Michael.” While the decision isn’t hers, she certainly is rooting for there to be another flick. “I don’t know if there will be a third,” she said. “I hope there will be. I think there’s more stories to be told. That’s totally his call.” So when will they stop? “Well, I think the only way it will continue is if Michael feels there’s more to be said. I think once we start repeating ourselves, it’s time to say goodbye,” she said. “Maybe that’s in five years, maybe that’s in 10. Who knows? I hope we can do it for as long as the audience is there and the characters are interesting and growing and changing.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Sex and the City 2.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Pill Preps First Gangsta Grillz Tape, Holds Off On Debut

‘I don’t want to rush it,’ the Atlanta MC tells Mixtape Daily of taking his time on The Medicine. By Steven Roberts and Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Rahman Dukes Pill Photo: Atlantic The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Pill is going for the trifecta next week. The rapper burst onto the scene last year thanks to his frantically-paced anthem “Trap Going Ham.” Since then, he’s released two “pharmaceutical”-themed mixtapes, 4180: The Prescription with DJ Burn One and 4175: The Refill with DJ Skee. Now, Pill is upping his prescription when he drops his first Gangsta Grillz mixtape with DJ Drama, 1140: The Overdose, on June 1. “Me and DJ Drama, it will be a Gangsta Grillz. Get that on your mind right!” Pill told Mixtape Daily. ” 1140: The Overdose. I got few features, but I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag just yet. You could look for it to be along the same lines of The Prescription or The Refill. I just try to keep it going the way I usually do it. I don’t want to switch it up, because I made it this far doing what I do, so I’m going to keep doing what I do.” Pill’s previous tapes have mixed original material with jacked beats from a wide array of artists like Destiny’s Child and the Notorious B.I.G. The Overdose continues in that tradition: Freestyles over Ludacris’ “How Low” and T.I.’s “I’m Back” have already leaked to the Web. His tapes have helped Pill win a spot on XXL ‘s 2010 Freshmen 10 . Despite his quick rise, Pill said he won’t rush his aptly titled debut album, The Medicine. “I don’t want to rush it, because you know how a lot of people get signed and they drop an album ASAP, and nobody knows who they really are? I don’t want to fall victim to that,” he said. “[I’ll] probably drop another two mixtapes and then be looking forward to the album. I don’t want to drop it on them. I want them to be like, ‘We need that Pill album,’ so I can give them The Medicine. ” Other Heat This Week
