Shannen Doherty on Mari-Kari, ‘Annoying’ Optimists and Schoolgirl Violence

If you are a fan of little girls committing big, gory acts of violence , then you should check out Shannen Doherty’s latest project, the animated web series Mari-Kari premiering tomorrow on FEAR net. The anime-inspired project splits Doherty — who just this year, returned to the 90210 zip code and competed as a celebrity contestant on Dancing with the Stars — into identical twins Mari and Kari. The latter is a ghost who goes to great lengths to protect her bubbly, optimistic sister Mari from bullies at school. And as Doherty explained to Movieline last week, tapping into her “saccharine sweet” side is enough to give the actress a major headache.

Mark Ballas to Dancing with the Stars Fans: Lay Off Kate Gosselin!

Len has called her dancing “dreadful.” Bruno has called her the super bitch from hell . Tony Dovolani just wants her gone at any cost. America won’t oblige, however, at least not yet. Kate Gosselin’s controversial stint on Dancing with the Stars continues Monday. Will it be her last performance? Maybe, maybe not. But Mark Ballas, who was inexplicably eliminated first this season with Shannen Doherty, thinks er need to cut the reality mom some slack. Mark Ballas (left) is showing Kate Gosselin some love . “She’s really out of her element, thrown in the deep end,” Ballas says . “I think she’s doing a really good job, and I think people need to give her a break. I absolutely sympathize with her. She’s never done this before. It’s difficult.” This isn’t to say he thinks Kate Gosselin is even remotely good , just that we should back off a little. Until she quits her non-stop whining , don’t expect it. As for who he likes to hoist the coveted disco ball come season’s end, Mark is high on Jake Pavelka, Nicole Scherzinger, Evan Lysacek and Erin Andrews. “I like Erin and Maks together,” he said of Erin and partner / rumored beau Maksim Chmerkovskiy. “What they did with the blindfold was really creative.” Who are you rooting for on Dancing with the Stars?

Dancing with the Stars Recap: Evan Lysacek Sets the Gold Standard

Evan Lysacek is not interested in silver medals. Having already conquered the Winter Olympics in figure skating, the 24-year-old is looking to pair his gold medal with a silver Dancing with the Stars disco ball. If last night is any indication, he’s the man to beat. He and Anna Trebunskaya bested the field by a considerable margin and got a standing O for the quickstep. Also cementing their status as contenders this season were Nicole Scherzinger, the first two weeks’ top scorer , and Erin Andrews, who showed grace and poise. Despite threats from a crazy stalker , Erin is no quitter, and she and Maksim Chmerkovskiy tied Nicole and Derek Hough for Monday’s second-highest scores. At the bottom of the heap were Buzz Aldrin, predictably, and Kate Gosselin, who didn’t exactly make Tony Dovolani look like Babe Ruth with his predictions . Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya stood (and sat) alone.

Deadmau5 Wants To ‘Keep Doing New And Cool Things’

‘I keep setting the bar for myself,’ the ‘Ghosts N Stuff’ dance hitmaker says. By Adam Stewart Deadmau5 Photo: MTV News You probably know his music from the promo for “America’s Best Dance Crew” and might even have fallen in love with the sinister sound — but who is behind the infectious beats and anthemic sounds? Meet Deadmau5. Pronounced “dead mouse” and known to his family and friends as Joel Zimmerman, the Canadian born, Grammy-nominated producer is one of the hottest dance acts around, and his headlining appearance at the Winter Music Conference’s Ultra Music Festival in front of 100,000 fans has only further solidified the fact that the Mau5 is here to stay. But who is the man behind the mask that has become so iconic in the dance-music community? “Long story short, a mouse went into my computer and died, and I found him in there when I was changing my video card,” he explained. After word spread on the Internet through various chat rooms and blogs, “everyone just statted calling me ‘that dead mouse guy’ because of he story, and it just stuck. And the 5 was because I couldn’t spell out D-E-A-D-M-O-U-S-E because it was too long to have as a name in the chat room, so I had to trim a character, so I was just like, whatever, and I put a 5 in there and it stuck.” A computer buff turned international dance-music superstar, Deadmau5 has had a rapid rise to success. Just four years ago at Winter Music Conference 2007 he was peddling his CDs and stickers on the street like scores of other DJ and producer hopefuls do each and every year. “It’s incredible to see someone catapult from obscurity to stardom in less than two years,” said David Waxman, longtime DJ and current Ultra Records executive. “He’s taking art to a new level. He’s not just a DJ remixing on the fly, but more of a musician and a producer — he makes it a lot more interesting.” Indeed, Deadmau5 has not only become an icon to the electronic music novice and fanatic alike, but he is also redefining what it means to produce dance music. And his shows have become legendary in the dance-music community, as he works with a lavish intricate array of mixers, MIDI devices and computer software — all while wearing his unmistakable evil “Mau5Head.” With the massive success of “Ghosts N Stuff” from the “ABDC” promo, Deadmau5 insists there’s more to him than that one track. “I’ve just got to keep doing new and cool things and being on par with that, because I really, really don’t want to be this ‘Ghosts N Stuff’ guy, you know what I mean? So I really got to, like, I keep setting the bar for myself and sort of, like, screwing myself because I’m like, ‘Oh man, I’ll never do that again, something on that level,’ and that’s kind of cool because it just pushes me to come up with something like that.” Coming off of a massive year with his smash release For Lack of a Better Name with singles like the aforementioned “Ghosts N Stuff” along with “Strobe” and killer Kaskade collaborations “I Remember” and “Move for Me,” ‘Mau5 has solidified himself as an electronic music star whose frenzied fans have put him on the top of his game, often imitating his signature mau5head. “Dude, I’ve been at some shows and some kids rock out these mau5heads that are better than mine!” he said. However, he’s planning to debut his brand-new, one-of-a-kind mau5head at the upcoming Coachella festival in Indio, California. “It’s just like an HD, LED matrix that’s insanely huge all in a big mau5head, so it’s, like, no longer a mau5head — it’s a compound spherical video surface. It’s the only one in the world!” With his new album on the horizon and set to be released before summer, Deadmau5 assures us he has some surprises in store. Unveiling Tommy Lee as his surprise drummer at Ultra Music Festival at the end of March, who will he pair up with next? “I’m working on my wish list right now and I don’t want to give it away, because I’m working with these artists and everyone knows who they are and everyone is going to go, ‘WHAT!?!?’ but it’ll sound good — don’t worry, it’s not Justin Bieber or anyone crazy!” ‘Mau5 joked. Nicole Scherzinger Brings ‘Slapstick’ To ‘Dancing With The Stars’

‘We’re taking it old school,’ she says of performance plans with partner Derek Hough. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Nicole Scherzinger at her “Dancing with the Stars” rehearsal on Friday Photo: MTV News Last week Nicole Scherzinger scored the highest of all the celebrity dancers on “Dancing With the Stars,” receiving a near-perfect total of 28. When the fans voiced their opinion, it was Shannen Doherty who was voted off the show , leaving Scherzinger to dance another week. So what should fans expect to see when they tune in this week? “We had the quick step. We decided to take a risk and do something that we wanted to do on our own,” Scherzinger told MTV News recently about her partner’s strategy. “We’re not really playing by the rules necessarily.” Scherzinger and dance partner Derek Hough plan to try out some more unconventional dance moves with a routine that will be anything but strictly ballroom. “We’re taking it old school. We’re going back to the basics of, like, sheer entertainment and being performers, kind of like slapstick comedy,” she shared. “And [we’re] just having a good time. I don’t know if the judges are gonna necessarily like it so much. We’ll see.” The Pussycat Doll is used to all the hard work thanks to her strenuous pop-star schedule, but her “DWTS” routines are definitely the hardest thing she’s had to do in a long while. “I didn’t anticipate, honestly, that it was going to be so challenging,” she said. “I’m used to hard work, being on tour with the Pussycat Dolls and going non-stop, but this style of dance is so foreign to my body. It’s quite frustrating at times.” Are you looking forward to seeing Nicole and Derek perform again on “Dancing With the Stars”? Tell us in the comments below! Erin Andrews has endured a rough year, one that keeps revealing difficult passages. This month (and after our interview) it was revealed that Andrews had received death threats for over six months. Now, as Andrews waltzes and quicksteps on the 10th season of Dancing with the Stars , she talks with Movieline about moving on from the hellish court proceedings, finding new confidence, those romantic rumors with her dance partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy and the other ESPN personality she’d like to see on DWTS .
