Libertarian Journalist Came For Kamala Harris’ Weed Smoking, Got Facts Wrong

Source: Power 105 / Power 105 In the wake of Sen. Kamala Harris announcing a run for president , a growing chorus of dissent has risen from both the Left and the Right. A Libertarian journalist took aim at Harris’ admittance that she smoked weed while in college and tried to blow holes in her timeline, but the presidential hopeful never said what she’s being accused of by her critics. Crooks and Liars report : Turns out Nick Gillespie’s timeline calculations are a little off. He claims Harris says she smoked pot while listening to Snoop Dogg in college. She didn’t. Nick Gillespie followed up his lie with a lot of concern trolling about who Kamala Harris locked up while she was Attorney General of California. It’s fascinating how they can push the “Democrat open borders leads to MURDER” and the “Kamala Harris was a meanie prosecutor” memes at the same time. I’m sorry to break it to the tighty-whitey guys at Reason Magazine, but Kamala Harris is not talking to you. Thanks to the good sleuth work of Keith Boykin, it’s shown that Sen. Harris never said she listened to Snoop Dogg in college. She did say she smoked weed and listened to 2Pac and Snoop but she never offered a timeline nor linked it to her time in school. Further, she’s said she’s since stopped toking. In fairness, Harris still has her fair share of critics who won’t rest until they find a breaking point. In fact, some are noting under Boykin’s tweet that Harris was already working in her field and still lighting up but again, nothing has been confirmed. How high did @KamalaHarris get while smoking weed in college? High enough to claim she listened to Tupac and @SnoopDogg as a student, though their debuts came after she graduated college ('86) and law school ('89). As with her former position on legalization, she's scamming — Nick Gillespie (@nickgillespie) February 12, 2019 No, Kamala Harris didn’t tell @breakfastclubam she listened to Snoop Dogg and Tupac before they came out. She acknowledged she smoked weed in college. She never said that was the only time she ever smoked. Later when asked if she ever listened to Snoop while high, she said yes. pic.twitter.com/UNCbbl5fC6 — Keith Boykin (@keithboykin) February 13, 2019 — Photo: Power 105

Tamar Braxton’s Ex Vincent Herbert May Have Royalties Seized To Pay Debt

Source: Michael Bezjian / Getty Vincent Herbert , the ex-husband of Celebrity Big Brother star Tamar Braxton, might have to let go some of his royalties to settle a $65,000 debt. Herbert has worked behind the scenes with the likes of Toni Braxton , Destiny’s Child, and others. The Blast reports : According to court documents obtained by The Blast, a company named Manhattan Leasing Enterprises is taking steps to collect the money owed to them from Herbert. They sued him for allegedly breaching a 2016 Rolls Royce lease and were awarded a $65,138.02 judgment in the case. Since being awarded the judgment, they claim to have not been paid a dime from Herbert on the debt. Manhattan Leasing recently subpoenaed American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) to find answers about Herbert’s royalties and music income. Manhattan specifically wants to know about royalties that Herbert is collecting for his work on the Toni Braxton songs “How Many Ways” and “Please,” multiple tracks by JoJo, Destiny’s Child, Mindless Behavior, Montell Jordan, Bryson Tiller and even music from Gloria Gaynor. A hearing in the matter will be held next month. — Photo: Getty

The Rewind: ‘Glass’ Comes With A ‘Trigger Warning’

Source: iOne Digital, The Rewind / IOne Digital Video Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise return with another week of your favorite series, Global Grind’s “The Rewind”. Like we always do at this time, we’re giving you your much-needed dose of recap reality. Every week we revisit some of the pop culture trends, movies, viral moments and music from the week before and give our hot takes. Our experts Landon Lavarius and DJ Franchise share their opinions, sprinkle in some facts and then when it’s all over and done with, provide a rating of 1 to 10. We listen to the songs, watch the movies, scour the internet, and do the hard work so you don’t have to. This week, Landon and Franchise will be discussing the M. Night Shyamalan flick, Glass . The film is a sequel to the previous movies,  Unbreakable , which came out in 2000, and Split , which was released in 2016. It stars Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson and of course, James McAvoy, who reprises his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within. Glass hit theaters on January 18, 2019, and was met with mixed reviews. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a mere 36% score while IMDB was more forgiving with a 7 out of 10 rating. Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise got to check out the movie and rate it for themselves. Knowing what you know about how hard these two are to please, what do you think they thought of Glass ? Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise also dig into the new Netflix series, Trigger Warning , hosted by Killer Mike. Trigger Warning hit the Netflix platform on January 18 as well. On the show, the Atlanta native uses various scenarios to confront important social issues and cultural taboos. The first season of the show is six episodes long and has already picked up steam on social media. An episode in which Killer Mike teaches a young grade school student about white privilege quickly went viral just hours after Trigger Warning was available for streaming on Netflix. Killer Mike uses nontraditional approaches to explore the human condition and examine the “what ifs” and “why nots” that limit how people operate in the world. Social media is already fascinated with the show but do you think Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise were feeling it? Our resident critics share their thoughts on the new show and let us know whether or not it’s worth the hype. Find out what they rated these topics and more when you press play on episode 29 of The Rewind up above.

#BlackAIDSDay: How You Can Live With HIV With No Shame

Source: Aryah Lester / Aryah Lester This post originally appeared on  A Girl Like Me , a blog for women and girls on  The Well Project , and is part of collaboration with HelloBeautiful for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day . “I still have a dream,” said Martin Luther King, “it is deeply rooted in the American Dream.” Earlier in history, Henry David Thoreau was quoted as saying: “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.  Live the life you’ve imagined!” Dreams that are tied to a confident, better you, tied to career goals and an impact in society, are of the few remnants of our innocent and wondrous childhood fantasies. However, in reality, many of us see career goals bringing personal happiness as fictional as wishing on stars. Discrimination, HIV stigma and social statuses seem to plant us in mud, with a generous percentage of people just achieving enough to manage the next breath. There are times that hope shines through the dense polluted clouds of realism, and we find ourselves thinking that by chance a rare opportunity is afforded to our lives.  An unforeseen position, promotion or opportunity teases us with the goals of fantasy coming into the waking light and telling our stories in all facets of public health. If only for a moment, the thought of living our ‘lottery of life’ enters the mind and holds root within the desert of desperation. The dream continues to be just that: an occurrence within our minds that never quite translates into our reality. Hope can be manufactured into dreams coming true, outside the realm of “princesses castles’ and ‘heroes destined to change the world.” My own foray into the world of HIV advocacy and activism for an underserved and vulnerable population has so far seen many of my dreams come true, while at the same time having no visibly viable resources to speak of to many in my community. I now find myself to be the Deputy Executive Director of the Transgender Strategy Center , devoted to the needs of my community, in an area where, historically, there has never existed anything like what we created. It had only previously existed in my dreams. Here are the main ten steps that could assist you with achieving the same for yourself. Simplify your life. Don’t hesitate for opportunities within your ability. Join HIV committees/boards. Volunteer. Network socially. Network online. Network. Make relationships with organizations with a similar mission. Form a coalition. Find volunteers/pro-bono contractors. Search for sponsors to conferences and trainings. Realize realistic time factors. Whatever you do, just don’t give up. Source: Ciarra / Courtesy Ciarra This post originally appeared on  A Girl Like Me , a blog for women and girls on  The Well Project , and is part of collaboration with HelloBeautiful for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day . I have made a few mistakes in my life. Who am I kidding? I have made MANY mistakes in my life. And I ain’t even been alive that long. Some of those mistakes, I can effortlessly push underneath that figurative rug somewhere and pray I lose the memory. That way, no one else knows about the mistake. I can just act as though it never happened. And keep it moving. But then you have those others. You know, those other mistakes, which are a little more difficult to conceal. They loud. They make themselves known. There ain’t no running or no hiding from these type. Contracting HIV is one of those mistakes for me. This one I can’t escape. Sure, I could have kept the secret to myself. But in order to live healthy and well, I would have had to address it at some point. It wasn’t noooo hiding, shoving, or pushing this one, nowhere. I call it a mistake because I knew I should have used a condom. But I didn’t. I call it a mistake because people had attempted to guide me to safer choices. But I opted to do my own thing. And as a result, I contracted this virus. I contracted this dumb, stupid, ugly virus. If only I had done this or that, I would not be HIV positive today. For other people it may look like: … if only I had studied for that test, I would have passed that class. … if only I had ordered a rideshare that night, I would not have to serve the sentence attached to a DUI. … if only I had used a condom, I might not have contracted chlamydia. Look. I am not ashamed of my HIV positive status because, we have all made mistakes. They may not all look the same, but a mistake is a mistake is a mistake. Right? We all have done something that we wish that we could take back. The HIV mistake makes itself known daily. The reminder comes in the form of a once-a-day pill that I struggle to swallow. Other people may still be able to push their biggest mistakes to the back of their mind. I can’t. I gotta face mine. I’m tryna live and sh*t. Anyways, I’m sure that if we could go back and avoid making these mistakes, we would. And to me, that sounds like growth. So I must ask, what is there to be ashamed of in growth? ‘LHHNY’ Recap: MariahLynn Steps Up For Sidney Starr

Source: Amanda Edwards / Getty Rich is still dealing with his baby mama’s prison saga on tonight’s episode of Love and Hip-Hop New York, but we don’t yet know what the outcome of that situation is. Maino and his girl, Maggie, pop back up again and their situation is that Maggie wants to get on a song that Maino has about bad chicks. She feels like it’s only right that she’s on the song since she’s Maino’s girl and she’s bad. Maino reluctantly agrees, but he really wants her to do something other than music, like be a businesswoman. He’s not trying to shut her dreams down just for the heck of it, he’s coming from a place of knowing how hard it is to make it in the music industry. But Maggie doesn’t care. Sidney Starr finally consults with a surgeon about gender reassignment surgery. Later on, Sidney tells MariahLynn about it. Unfortunately, Sidney Starr doesn’t have the $30,000 for the procedure. However, MariahLynn is supportive and springs into action trying to figure out what Sidney can do to get the money. MariahLynn’s advice is that Sidney needs a record, but not just any record, she needs a bop, something to get the people excited. In related news, Nya Lee goes to Rich Dollaz and talks all about the drama that went down with Sidney. Rich is swayed by Nya Lee’s testimony that Sidney can’t be taken seriously and he’s ready to sever business ties. Later on, Sidney Starr and MariahLynn present a new record to Rich Dollaz. It’s Sidney and it sounds much better than previous stuff and even makes Rich decide to give her another chance. Basically, MariahLynn should have been the one to groom Sidney this entire time. Back to Maino. Now we find him in the studio with Alexis Skyy and plays the track from earlier for her. Then Maino’s girlfriend walks in the middle of this because Alexis invited her to her studio session to hear the fire track. Awkward. Alexis gets a sense of what’s going on and now she’s irritated that Maino had entertained the track with Maggie first. Alexis excuses herself so that Maino and Maggie can talk. Maino repeats that he didn’t really think Maggie was serious about music and frankly, he wishes she would pursue more stable options than music, like launching businesses (she already has a boutique and he wishes she would focus on that and other, non-music related things). But Maggie is going to do what she wants and what she wants is music. Maggie decided to break away from Maino and link up with Hollywood Play, a rapper she met over a decade ago. They record their song, but less than 12-hours after recording, Hollywood Play is gunned down. So, a celebration of art turns into a vigil for the slain rapper. Finally, the episode concludes with Juelz proposing to Kimbella, you know the proposal. It’s the one we saw go viral a couple of months ago. Isn’t that sweet? Ride or die for years for someone who doesn’t really treat you right and then after they lose their teeth to a drug addiction and are on the verge of going to jail they’ll propose. Congrats? Ok, I couldn’t resist being shady but let’s reconvene next week. ‘HTGAWM’ Recap: Nate’s Master Plan Might Be Brilliant After All

Source: Richard Cartwright / Getty Annalise is now roped into Nate’s plan to pin his father’s murder on the governor. Tonight’s episode of How to Get Away With Murder finds her trying to keep him out of jail. The feds have him pegged as a suspect, especially since he is unhinged and acting erratically. Things get worse when Asher tells Annalise that he’s not the only one who knows that Nate killed Ron. In other words, her kids know too since Asher’s punk arse snitched. Nate has been doing his own sleuthing, as we know. He meets with one of the jurors from his father’s death case to get the scoop. The juror tells him they made a ruling based on evidence they got in a packet from the bailiff. Shady boots. Basically, Miller may have given the jury fake evidence and Nate got a copy of it. Gabe ends up getting questioned about the voicemail he left for Miller. You remember the whole, “I screwed up, they found out who I am” bit. He claims he was helping Miller investigate Annalise because they thought she was involved in a lot of criminal activity. He says he hadn’t seen Miller in two months. The examiner then specifically asks, “So you didn’t see him at the wedding?” and he lies. This is not going to go well. Hold that thought. Nate presents the potentially fake evidence to Annalise and the theory that Miller tampered with it. Annalise tells him he doesn’t have concrete proof and that he’s digging his own grave as a suspect. Nate tells her to either have his back or get out. What do you think she did? Meanwhile, Bonnie is struggling with her guilt over helping to kill Miller. Like, struggling struggling, to the point where she tries to kill herself. She sits in her car in a garage and tries to let the carbon monoxide take her out. Luckily Frank finds her, realizes what’s going on and stops it. Finally, we get to the moment when Nate is questioned by the feds. Annalise calls him to see where he is. She offers to come down to help but he tells her not to because she can’t come near this. Annalise implores him not to answer their questions but this is part of his master plan. He let them take his DNA so that they can run it against the gun they claim had his father’s DNA—you know, the gun they said his dad tried to grab. Fast forward a bit, and we find out that the feds investigating Nate gave Tegan an immunity deal for..we don’t know but she’s up to something too. Finally, we cut to Annalise telling her kids that Nate had a smart plan to pin the crime on the gov and that she needs them on board. Annalise deciding to go along with Nate’s plan might have something to do with the next scene. It’s Nate meeting with the feds again. This time they tell him that he was right because his DNA doesn’t match that on the gun so someone did tamper with evidence! Then they say they have someone in custody in connection with the crime. Now we cut back to Annalise. She gets a call from prison saying they have someone in custody who claims she’s their lawyer. You guessed it, it’s Gabriel. He got himself in a world of trouble. Next week we find out exactly why he was arrested. Because you know there’s always twists and turns.
