Shyne Says 50 Cent Is ‘Desperate,’ ‘Stalking’ Him

‘He didn’t call up saying he’s Curtis Jackson,’ the Belize MC says in response to Fif impersonating a DJ to disrupt live phone chat. By Shaheem Reid Shyne Photo: Gangland Belize-born MC Shyne led a Def Jam-sponsored conference call on Wednesday that was broadcast live on XXL magazine’s Ustream. The call was supposed to have included DJs and journalists, but one of Shyne’s musical nemeses, 50 Cent, decided to crash the proceedings. In a video posted Thursday (August 12) on ThisIs50.com , 50 is seen on the phone claiming to be a radio personality: “Shawn from Radio One.” Fif then poses the question, “What’s your real issue with 50 Cent?” 50’s call was quickly disconnected and he was blocked from calling back. Later on in the video, though, 50 is seen yelling into the phone, pretending to talk to Shyne, spitting Mel Gibson-eque obscenities and declaring “you’re on an island. You can’t go to war on an island.” On Thursday, Shyne, deported last year to his native Belize , responded in a Skype interview with MTV News. “Wow. That’s like an all-time low,” Shyne said. “I didn’t know he was so desperate. He’s gone from confidential informant, witness-protection program dude, getting order [of protection] on muthaf—as. Now he’s a stalker. I was in shock. He called up saying he was ‘Jamal from Harlem.’ He didn’t call up saying he’s Curtis Jackson, Hawaii 5-0. He’s a busta. I can’t believe it. I can’t believe he would stoop to that low. Then again, a guy in the witness-protection program, he has no shame.” Shyne said he wasn’t aware that it was 50 who had called in until after he’d finished his interviews. “You know how it is. When you do these things, you always gotta expect a muthaf—a to call and he might be disgruntled. We took it as another disgruntled person. ‘Cause you know, I don’t know what his voice sounds like. I don’t listen to nothing he do. If we on the yard, and they put his video on, they change the TV in the yard,” Shyne explained, referring to his recently completed prison stint. “I don’t jack that dude on no level. I don’t know what his voice sound like. But somebody at Def Jam caught him. He’s been reaching out to one of my generals in the street begging for peace. He caught his voice too. It was after the fact. “I thought it was somebody who was having a bad day, who wanted to know the situation. It wasn’t until after everything was finished, muthaf—as at Def Jam was like, ‘That was Boo-Boo. That was Hawaii 5-0.’ I was like, ‘No. No.’ Then he put the out, like he was talking reckless. He’s a creep. Any of my comments have been honest comments. These dudes do anything, I don’t give a f—. It never bothered me. The fact that he’s sitting in New York, selling his Vitamin Water, listening to my Ustream. What the f—? You’re stalking me. Go take some steroids. Find something to do.” 50 Cent could not be reached for comment. What do you think of the situation between 50 Cent and Shyne? Tell us in the comments. Related Artists Shyne 50 Cent

Shyne Blames 1999 Shooting On ‘Survival Instincts’

Rapper shares his feelings about Diddy in September cover story of XXL. By Jayson Rodriguez Shyne on the cover of the September 2010 edition of XXL Photo: XXL Expatriated rapper Shyne graces the September cover of XXL, and in the issue, the formerly jailed star talks about his gun case, Diddy and the decision he made more than 10 years ago that changed his life forever. “In my life, when I make decisions to roll, I roll,” Shyne told the magazine about firing a gun while partying with Diddy and the mogul’s then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez at Club New York. “And I don’t give a f— what the consequences are. If I’ma defend myself, I’ma defend myself. If somebody tryna kill or hurt one of my partnas or my comrades, that’s with me, there is no, ‘Yo,’ or, ‘Damn, well, if I pull this sh– out, this is what’s gonna happen.’ No! I don’t wanna die. I don’t wanna be laid up in no f—ing hospital with a tube runnin’ through me, hurtin’ and sufferin’. Pain is real. So you know what? I’m not doin’ that. You gon’ do that, mother—-er. You gon’ roll and say hi to Satan, not me. And that’s that. “Your survival instincts tell you to protect and preserve, and you deal with whatever later,” he explained of his actions. Shyne and Diddy were both charged in the December 1999 incident, and the two later went to trial separately with different legal representation. Diddy was aquitted , but Shyne was found guilty of first-degree assault, among other charges, and sentenced to 10 years in prison. After the trial, his relationship with the Bad Boy Records CEO soured. Shyne lashed out in interviews against his former mentor, claiming Diddy turned his back on him. Though he’s still not in agreement with the way things were handled, Shyne appears more measured in his personal take on Diddy’s actions. “You can always say, ‘Man, that ain’t the way to handle the situation,’ ” he told XXL. “Sure, I know in my soul that the situation was supposed to be handled in a different way. But it ain’t really a matter of disappointment or letdown, ’cause I never really … I grew up never having sh–, never having anybody. So I never was that dude to depend on a mother—-er. Obviously, the actions is not something that you condone or that you’re happy with. Not at all.” After serving almost nine years of his prison sentence, the Brooklyn-bred rapper was deported to his native Belize. Since then, he has re-joined Def Jam’s roster. The rapper has only provided a small sampling of material in the months after inking with the label, including “Messiah,” in which he raps with a noticeably drawn-out flow, a variation from the tighter delivery he displayed during his Bad Boy days. The Shyne interview is the first in a three-part series on the rapper set to run in forthcoming issues of XXL. Young Jeezy also graces the split cover of the magazine’s 13th anniversary issue, is set hit newsstands on the first week of August. XXL ‘s September issue hits stands August 10. Check out video coverage from the issue on the “Sucker Free Countdown,” Sundays at noon on MTV2. Do you think Shyne will be able to put the past behind him and create new music? Snoop Dogg, Kid Cudi Join Forces For ‘That Tree’ Video

Dressed like Cheech and Chong, the rappers get goofy in their ode to evergreens. By James Montgomery Snoop Dogg and Kid Cudi in “That Tree” Photo: Capitol Records Great minds think alike. So, when Snoop Dogg and Kid Cudi — two men who share an affinity for, shall we say, herbal remedies — get together on a track called “That Tree,” it’s a pretty safe bet neither of them were thinking about conifers. If they were thinking at all. “Tree,” a new cut off the reissue of Snoop’s Malice in Wonderland album, isn’t about forestry at all. It’s a classic stoner jam, a light ‘n breezy ode to the sticky green stuff, featuring a hazy, loping beat courtesy of Diplo. The accompanying just-released video is appropriately laconic and bedheaded. Directed by Erick Peyton, the clip for “That Tree” is basically a four-minute stoner comedy, featuring brightly colored, slightly goofy set pieces like dancing two-dimensional trees, women dressed as lumberjacks and a big, shiny sun. You know, the kind of stuff that looks like it was lifted from some smoked-out dude’s dreams. It’s a sly interpretation, made even more impressive when you realize that Snoop and Cudi are actually dressed like Cheech and Chong, circa “Up in Smoke” (no word on if their van is made entirely of weed). And, much like all great stoner comedies, there’s (sort of) a plotline involving the accidental ingestion of pot, a misplaced vehicle and a deer. Or something like that. These things tend to make more sense when you’re baked. The video is also amazing because it’s the kind of thing you usually don’t see from Snoop: It’s goofy and good-natured. In the past, even when he was being positively ridiculous (like, for example, his VHS-ified video for “Sensual Seduction”), there was a snarl to his performances, a bit of the braggadocio. In “Trees,” he seems content to just grin and watch the world drift by. And he looks like he’s having a blast doing it. And, really, who can blame him? Never underestimate the power of the trees, after all. Related Videos Snoop Dogg’s ‘That Tree’ Video Premieres Related Artists Snoop Dogg Kid Cudi

As for his wooing on “Un-Thinkable,” the Brooklyn slugger raps, “When we first met, I was an outlaw/ Never pretended to be anything but a roller from the streets/ Saying I should change, Ma, I gotta eat/ Ain’t gon’ be no peace till the blood get a piece.” Shyne was sentenced to 10 years in prison for two counts of assault as well as reckless endangerment and gun possession in a 1999 shooting and was released late last year. He is working on his new album for Def Jam.
