Great Moments in Baseball: The Ring’s Sadako Throws First Pitch at Japanese Game

This is officially the most brilliant ceremonial first pitch gimmick ever staged, just narrowly beating out that time Bill Murray ran the bases and slid into home at Wrigley Field: Yesterday at Japan’s Tokyo Dome, Ringu/The Ring villainess Sadako (who’s coming back for more in Sadako 3D , in Japanese cinemas this May) trudged to the mound to throw the first pitch before the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters battled the Chiba Lotte Marines. Somehow she managed to see through her signature wall of scary horror hair to toss a decent looper before the ghostly spirit took over and…well, just watch for yourself. Yep. Just about the best thing ever. (Sadako entrance at 1:30.) But wait — does this mean everyone who throws the first pitch after her is cursed? [ Movie Collection via TwitchFilm ]

Katy Perry’s Hair History: Her Best Looks … So Far!

After Perry tweeted that she’s changed up her locks (again), MTV News remembers her more daring ‘dos. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry Photo: Steve Granitz/ Getty Images Breaking news: Katy Perry has changed her hair again! The singer took to Twitter to announce that she’s found a new hair color, but her fans will have to wait to find out what it is. “You know what’s great about having poison oak?! NOTHING #itchgasm Somehow in the middle of all this… I found time to change my hair color,” she wrote. “Finally… #takeaguess #foreverawalkingpantonepalette.” Despite not sharing too much about her hair color, she did offer up this tidbit of a tease about her current look: “Pretty stoked about my 90’s The Craft meets Garbage meets Tank Girl meets early No Doubt meets Ty from Clueless lewk 4 dis wknd #ohmygoth.” Perry had famously been sporting berry-blue hair since January, changing the hue and length but maintaining indigo as the base, strutting her blue self all over carpets, hitting up events and wearing it in an ad campaign for Adidas . “Of course, being Katy, she is a lot more edgy and she’s cooler and she likes to take a lot of risks. And I love that she’s like, ‘I’m feeling a little blue, let’s go blue’ — not in her energy, just in her hair color,” Perry’s hair colorist , Rita Hazan, explained to MTV News. “I felt like it’s the perfect color for her, because her eyes are blue and she has the perfect skin tone to be a really vibrant, really cool, intense blue.” Now, it seems that Perry has once again changed up her look — and Hazan said that’s just Katy being Katy. “She’s kind of this candy-coated sort of person,” Hazan said. “It’s nice to see her experiment with different things.” Fans might have to wait to see what Perry’s latest look is, but to tide you over, MTV News has rounded up some of Perry’s wildest, most memorable hairstyles — so far. 2010 Kids’ Choice Awards Perry kept it traditionally Katy, sporting what happens to be her signature look: black hair with cropped, Bettie Page-style bangs. To make the look even more Perry-fied, she graced the carpet in a multicolored, sparkly, showgirl-style bodysuit and sparkly heels. 2011 Grammys In a particularly glam moment, Perry softened her sometimes-severe hair and went for soft waves. Sure, it was still jet-black, but the middle part and the curls fit the occasion, giving her a truly old school Hollywood look, certainly matching her angelic ensemble. “Smurfs” Premiere Later in 2011, Perry began to get more and more experimental with her hair color. Transitioning out of the black, Katy hit up the “Smurfs” red carpet in July surprisingly not in blue hair, but in an ombre look that faded from blonde to strawberry blonde. She paid homage to Smurfette by donning a sequined dress with the character’s image on it. 2011 VMAs Pulling a completely funky move on her way through the rainbow, shortly after the “Smurfs” premiere, she hit up the VMAs in late August with piercing pink hair. It was a look she adopted right before going blonde and then settling on the blue. Dressed up like a couture geisha, Perry’s lavender-hued pink was flirty and fun. 2012 Kids’ Choice Awards Throwing her blue hair for a loop, Perry hit up the Kids’ Choice Awards last month with a multihued ponytail. With touches of purple and blue, the neon hair recalled lots of the colors she had been sporting over the last few months, serving as the perfect farewell to this phase of her hair evolution. Plus, it just happened to go perfectly with her bright-green outfit. Do you have a favorite Katy Perry hair look? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Katy Perry

‘American Idol’ Top Seven Rock Songs Of Today

Joshua Ledet gets a standing O and Elise Testone is declared ‘back’ on Wednesday’s show featuring music from this decade. By Gil Kaufman Elise Testone on “American Idol” Photo: Fox They may have been dressed like they were going to a prom in the 1980s, but the top seven finalists on “American Idol” finally dragged themselves into the present on Wednesday (April 11) for the “Songs From This Decade” theme night. With a playlist of tunes released between 2010 and this year, they had help from guest mentor Akon on a night that featured hits by everyone from Eminem to Pink, Bruno Mars, Kelly Clarkson and Maroon 5. After crushing it last week and cementing her status as a front-runner, country girl Skylar Laine played some small ball with the lesser-known Kellie Pickler tune “Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You.” Akon was blown away, saying he couldn’t stop thinking about Laine’s voice, which was a good sign. On a stage dressed up with flaming hobo barrel fires, Laine busted out her acoustic guitar and turned an obscure tune into another twangy tour-de-force, raising her gritty vocals skyward to match the bursts of pyro from the stage props. “This is what you should do, you could have a hit with a song like that,” said Randy Jackson, who dubbed it “crazy hot and crazy good,” not to mention pitch perfect. Steven Tyler offered up one of his all-time head-scratching compliments, praising the ladies of season 11 as only he can with the line, “the crows may crow, but the hens deliver the goods.” Right, what he said. Jimmy Iovine said Colton Dixon needed to step out of Phillip Phillips’ shadow, so he encouraged the Tennessee titan to up the ante on the song co-written for Eminem by Skylar Grey, “Love the Way You Lie.” Posting up behind a white grand piano and accompanied by a string section, Colton hit his falsetto repeatedly to up the drama. And while the big note in the middle was impressive, the soft rock arrangement came off as a bit, well, limp. As usual, though, the ladies loved it and Jennifer Lopez was again impressed with how Colton coaxed his own unique notes out the tune, which she wished would have been “more of a song.” Tyler thought it was so flawless that it could go out as a single right now, with no overdubs. At first, low-key pawn shop worker Phillips didn’t impress Akon and Jimmy with his attempt to do something a “bit different” with a strummy, DMB-ified cover of Maroon 5’s “Give a Little More.” Saxophone assist or not, Phillips managed to turn the pop tune into another one of his signature scatty, fratty jam rockers. Despite the sameness of nearly all his performances, Steven praised Phil’s melodic evolution on the show, inexplicably comparing the singer to a mix of late tough-guy actor Steve McQueen and country icon Johnny Cash. “It was a little bit underwhelming,” said Lopez, still yearning to hear Phil Squared break out and do something different. Jimmy drew a blank on “Stuttering,” the Jazmine Sullivan tune chosen by California girl Jessica Sanchez. But he and Akon were blown away by the teen’s power and control, which ‘Kon — who predicted she’d go far before the live shows started — dubbed “crazy.” Her confidence paid off, as Sanchez killed the sultry ballad, showing shades of everyone from Alicia Keys to Jennifer Hudson in a controlled, silky smooth performance that mixed elements of jazz, soul and timeless R&B. Randy loved the arrangement and said BeBe Chez set the bar at the “highest degree.” Lopez could feel Sanchez digging into the story behind the song in the middle and said the high schooler had a chance to take the “Idol” audience on a ride they’ve never been on before as next month’s finale approaches. Joshua “Mantasia” Ledet got a 20th birthday shout-out from season 3 “Idol” winner Fantasia and celebrated being almost legal by exiting the ballad barrio and rocking it out to Bruno Mars’ “Runaway Baby.” Rolling his hips, strutting his stuff and showing off some previously hidden ladies’-man moves, Ledet proved that he’s got just as much soul and grit singing uptempo as he does on the slow jams. Cleary it worked, since he got the night’s first standing O from the judges, with Tyler gushing, “you can sell us all like a work of art.” Jackson said the performance was, simply, “unbelievable,” from the fly white jacket and pink socks to the utter command of the stage. It was do-or-die week for bottom three staple Texas firecracker Hollie Cavanagh, who hoped to turn things around with Pink’s “Perfect.” Akon and Jimmy said she has the vocals, but just needs to cross the chasm from an amateur to a confident professional. Singing to an acoustic guitar, Cavanagh finally combined her powerful pipes with some controlled, heart-tugging emotion, ending with a gigantic diva-rific note that slammed an exclamation mark on the performance. “I feel you fighting. … You sang beautifully tonight,” said Lopez, though Tyler rebutted that it wasn’t, in fact, perfect, but a bit flat. Resident rocker Elise Testone closed the night with the Lady Gaga tune “Yo

Katy Perry’s ‘Part of Me’ Video: Five Things We Want To See

Perry is set to premiere the clip on ‘MTV First’ tonight at 7:23 p.m. ET, followed by an MTV.com Q&A. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry in her “Part of Me” music video Photo: Capitol We’re just excited as you are about the premiere of Katy Perry’s “Part of Me” video tonight at 7:23 p.m. ET on MTV. But before Katy herself introduces the video and answers your questions on MTV.com following the debut, we have a wish list of five things we’d love to see in the visuals. Directed by Ben Mor and filmed at the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base in Oceanside, California, in February, the clip promises to show Perry in full combat mode. So what do we want from the sure-to-be-feisty video? Katy Perry Getting Tough She’s always been pretty fierce, but seeing her crawl around in the dirt and maybe even shoot a gun? Well, that’s a side of the singer we have yet to see. But given how aggressive she is in the video teaser, we know she can live up to the challenge. Katy Perry in Night Vision Who hasn’t imagined what the California Gurl would look like in the green light of night vision? Based on the tease, it seems Katy Cats can see Perry in a whole new, um, light. Katy Perry In Uniform Of all the looks we’ve seen from Ms. Perry (which have even included a bra that shoots whipped cream ), getting a glimpse of Perry in a uniform would be a whole new style. And given that she usually looks impeccably feminine and super glossy, it could be fun to see this new, more lo-fi side of the star. Katy Perry With Black Hair Sure, we love Katy’s blue hair , but have we missed Katy in her signature jet-black hair? Yes! It’s her look, and we can’t imagine a video for a song as dark as this would include candy-colored locks. Katy Perry Kissing Off a Former Lover Given the fact that the song is all about saying “buh-bye” to a dude who doesn’t deserve you, we hope that story line pops up in the video somehow. How that ties into the Marine theme of the video? Well, that will remain a mystery until the premiere, but we can’t help thinking about the old adage about not messing with a woman scorned … Following the premiere, the singer will talk all about her new projects, including Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, during a 30-minute interview with MTV News’ James Montgomery on MTV.com. Don’t miss “MTV First: Katy Perry” tonight, when the pop star will debut her long-awaited video for “Part of Me” at 7:23 p.m. ET on MTV. Then head over to MTV.com for an exclusive 30-minute interview with Katy herself! Related Videos Get Ready For ‘MTV First: Katy Perry’

50 Cent and Eminem Join Forces At SXSW

50 Cent performs his 2003 album “Get Rich or Die Tryin'” with some help from Marshall Mathers. By Nadeska Alexis 50 Cent and Eminem perform March 16 Photo: Sam Hendrick/ MTV News 50 Cent made a rare appearance in Austin, Texas on Friday night to perform his classic 2003 album Get Rich or Die Tryin’ in its entirety, and fans who were hoping for that rumored Eminem performance were not the least bit disappointed. The opening lineup at the SXSW Shady 2.0 Showcase included 50 Cent’s new G-Unit artists Paris and Kidd Kidd, plus Action Bronson, Black Hippy’s Schoolboy Q, Don Trip and Big K.R.I.T. Yelawolf was forced to cancel his appearance due to an injury but his fellow Shady Records signees, Slaughterhouse, took the stage before Fif dishing out freestyles, in addition to singles like “Hammer Dance” from their upcoming album welcome to: Our House . 50 Cent hit the stage shortly after 11pm, launching into “What Up Gangsta?” decked out in an appropriately nostalgic outfit–a camouflage bullet-proof best and Yankees cap. Throughout the week there had been whispers of an Eminem guest appearance during Fif’s set, and Marshall Mathers confirmed those rumors on the second song of the night. Fifty rolled right into “Patiently Waiting,” spitting his first verse and within seconds Em burst onto the stage, delivering the hook and his verse, casually decked out in jeans a baseball cap and his signature hoodie. At times, Fif’s commentary during the show was just as entertaining as the actual songs. “It’s been 10 years. That album sold 13 million copies,” he told the crowd, marveling at the success of Get Rich or Die Tryin.’ “The money came so fast, I couldn’t f— it up,” he added, getting some laughs from the crowd. “I was trying everything I could think of.” Tony Yayo hung by Fif’s side as the crowd continued to go wild for tracks like “Many Men,” and “In Da Club.” And although the Queens rapper was in great spirits, he still managed to get in a bit of a rant, taking aim at some of his critics. “I guess it’s not what have I done, but what have I done for you lately, is that right?” he said, the annoyance evident on his face. Still, Fif treated fans to a few more songs, including an encore performance and a freestyle over Eminem’s “Till I Collapse,” which commanded another Shady appearance on stage. “Wanksta” was the closing number of the night, and though fans stayed put, expectantly, for another few minutes, that was it folks. iPad 3: What Does It Mean For Movies?

We break down the new screen resolution and how it will change watching films on a tablet. By Kevin P. Sullivan Apple CEO Tim Cook presents the iPad 3 on March 7th Photo: Getty Images For its third incarnation, Apple’s iPad is going high-definition. Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled the new tablet in front of a crowd of industry insiders and bloggers Wednesday (March 7) in San Francisco. One of the biggest updates to the gadget is an upgrade to a retina display with double the resolution of the iPad 2, touting a 2048×1536 screen and 264 pixels per inch. With such a significant change to the tablet’s screen, the new iPad is sure to change the way we watch movies on tablets. With the iPad’s display upgrade comes the possibility of 1080p screen resolution, something that has, up until this point, never been done on a tablet before. The move to 1080p on the iPad coincided with a much larger upgrade across the iTunes Store. Movies purchased or rented from the iTunes Store not only come in the up-scaled 1080p resolution, but also are shareable across Apple devices with the help of the file-sharing service iCloud. Movies and TV shows are now shareable through iCloud and can be re-downloaded across all devices. This includes an updated version of Apple TV, which brings your iTunes-purchased video to your home entertainment system, now in 1080p. The Apple TV interface also added a recommendation feature based on what you’ve previously bought and viewed. The new iPad also upgraded the back camera, now called the iSight camera. The new lens and features will allow 1080p video recording. Additionally, Apple 4G LTE capabilities to bust download speeds. The new iPad will be available for purchase in the United States on March 16 in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models.

Diggy Simmons Debuts Unexpected Arrival For NYC Crowd

Teenage rapper unveils his major-label debut, filled with feel-good tracks that prove he can hold his own against more seasoned MCs. By Rob Markman Diggy Simmons Photo: Andrew H. Walker/ Getty Images NEW YORK — Diggy Simmons took one step closer to his Unexpected Arrival when the teenage rapper unveiled his album for press, the music industry and their daughters, nieces and little sisters Tuesday night at Tribeca Cinemas in New York City. Team Diggy served up his signature Jetsetters non-alcoholic drink to the teenage crowd who gathered to take the first listen to the rap rookie’s major-label debut, which is due out March 20. Last week, at the rehearsal for BET’s upcoming “Rip the Runway” fashion and music show, MTV News caught up with Diggy to talk about his anticipated debut. “It’s just going to show the world,” he told us at the February 28 shoot. “People have gotten different pieces of me doing my thing from the freestyles to the mixtapes and different things, but this is a full project of original music and it’s just me taking that to the next level of what people really aren’t expecting. The title really speaks for itself.” Unexpected Arrival begins with a spoken-word intro and leads into the rock-tinged “Hello World.” It’s a chest-pounding proclamation befitting of the son of rap legend Run, but young Simmons is without a doubt his own artist. Diggy proves he can spit with the best of them. On “88,” he manages to hold his own against LOX luminary Jadakiss. He pulls similar lyrical stunts on songs like “Tom Edison” and “The Reign” while still catering to the teenage girls squealing at the front row of his shows. The LP’s first single, “Do It Like You” featuring Jeremih, is already a proven winner, currently at #13 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart and still rising. On “4 Letter Word,” Diggy explores L-O-V-E with a youthful, wide-eyed optimism, and on “Special Occasion,” he celebrates like a young man should. It isn’t all perfect though. “Unforgivable Blackness” is an honest attempt at depth, but the socio-politically charged track seemed to stick out like a sore thumb on an album filled with feel-good music. But on Tuesday night, the starstruck crowd gushed in approval at each track. Among his true fans, Diggy could do no wrong. Related Artists Diggy Simmons
