Rihanna’s Reb’l Fleur Spot: How Does It Compare To Other Pop-Star Fragrance Ads?

Like Britney and Mariah before her, singer has created sexy campaign for new perfume. By James Dinh Rihanna Photo: Michael Tran/ FilmMagic Following in the footsteps of a string of pop stars before her, Rihanna has expanded her empire with the release of her fragrance Reb’l Fleur . In the commercial for the perfume, the “S&M” singer turns up the mystery and allure, showcasing her naughty and nice sides as she takes a tantalizing stroll through a garden maze and falls for a tuxedo-clad seducer. RiRi hits the nail on the head by creating an ultra-sexy and sleek atmosphere for the two-minute clip. Here we review some other noteworthy pop-star fragrance campaigns. Britney Spears, Radiance Escaping the paparazzi is a day-to-day nuisance for Britney, but in the 30-second spot for her latest fragrance, Radiance, the pop princess succeeds as she flees through the back door of a glitzy event and wanders into the misty city. Dressed in a dazzling backless dress, the songstress happens upon a fortune-teller shop. Spears walks through a sparkling beaded entrance and sits down with the mystic. “Do you want me to tell you your future?” asks the fortune-teller, hovering over a magic ball. Brit declines the offer with a simple response: “No thanks, I choose my own destiny.” Mariah Carey, M The advertisement for M is a sensual clip full of sunsets and barely-there body shots. As her ballad “For the Record” plays, Mimi dabs her signature scent on her neck as scenes of her glowing figure flash before the camera. Add in a few shots of the songbird posing in the rain, and there you have it. The advert ends with Mariah lying in water as she exposes her backside and blends in with sunset scenery. Avril Lavigne, Forbidden Rose Avril takes the name of her scent to a literal meaning when she embarks on a walk in a dark forest. Entering through an iron gate, the pop-punk starlet trails deeper into the grounds to find a glowing purple rose surrounded by a white chain. As she bends down to grab the flower, the haunting background music escalates and the chain around the rose falls to the ground. Lavigne smells the rose and throws it to the camera as she says in voiceover, “Dare to discover. Forbidden Rose. The fragrance by Avril Lavigne.” Gwen Stefani, L It’s easy for Gwen to rock a pop-punk look, but it’s even easier for her to don a glamorous one as proven by the commercial for L. The 30-second spot finds the singer doing underwater flips in a dark pool. “I want you all over me,” she says. Emerging from the water in a red one-piece, Ms. Stefani then takes a dip in the pool of a luxurious mansion. Repeating the signature catchphrase again, Stefani lifts her fragrance bottle into the air and flashes a wide smile as it glistens in the sun. What’s your favorite pop-star fragrance ad? He’s actually a papillon,” the teen star explained. “We moved to a city where we didn’t really know anybody, so I wanted a friend and Sam was kind of like that friend. “My dad and I used to just go visit the different animals and stuff,” he continued, while suggesting that people get involved with the campaign. “It’s really important that people adopt. I really encourage going out to an animal shelter or a place where you can get a dog that has been abandoned or doesn’t have a home.” In his punny photo ads for the organization, the pop sensation sports his signature bangs and hoodie. Let’s just say you better get that credit card ready. Take Justin Bieber and his signature haircut that drives all the girls wild- it comes with a price tag. But given the intensity of “Bieber Fever” it seems to be money well spent. But just how much money are we talking about? Life & Style magazine reports that the Biebs spends more than $750 per haircut. Clearly it takes a lot of money to look like you don’t get your hair cut that often. That’s style, people, and the Biebs has it. And how often does he get his hair cut? Vanessa Price- the hairstylist that created his signature shaggy look- claims she makes housecalls to give the Biebs touch ups. Price says , “I usually cut his hair every couple of weeks when he’s on tour.” Now, I’m not mathematician, but that’s over $1,500k a month- ON HIS HAIR. I’m not sure if I need to find a time machine and aspire to be the next teen pop sensation, or go to cosmetology school. Decisions, decisions. Eminem and Lil Wayne Rock ‘Saturday Night Live’

Superstars team up for “No Love” and split the stage for “Won’t Back Down” and “6’7” on holiday-themed episode. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lil Wayne and Eminem perform “No Love” on “SNL” on Dec. 18 Photo: NBC Eminem and Lil Wayne sent “Saturday Night Live” viewers into the holiday season with a double dose of hip-hop over the weekend. The rap luminaries first rocked Em’s steely Haddaway-sampling joint “No Love,” backed by a live band on a set decked out in festive holiday decorations. Both MCs kept their style casually cool: Wayne rocked a white T-shirt and black plants while Em sported a brown jacket and gray beanie. Weezy spit the first verse with his signature unhinged energy, asserting his return to the live-television circuit. Em helmed the rest of the song, nimbly dropping his lyrics with abandon. The MCs split up for the final performance, with Eminem kicking things off with the Pink-assisted cut “Won’t Back Down.” Outfitted in a black jacket and cap, Em rocked the joint with the help of a hype man, spitting bars like, “How you douche bags feel?/ Knowing you’re disposable, Summer’s Eve, Massengill.” When Em wrapped up, the Detroit MC ceded the mic to Weezy, who hopped up onstage solo for the recently released “6’7″.” The live electric guitar-laced version was a super-charged departure from the Bangladesh-crafted banger, with Wayne knocking out the lyrics with his high-powered flow and vibing with a slew of similarly amped musicians. The “SNL” appearance is the latest team-up in a long list collaborations between the Shady boss and the Young Money captain. Em guested on Weezy’s “Drop the World” from the New Orleans vet’s rock-centric album “Rebirth.” Wayne returned the favor for Em’s Recovery cut “No Love.” Other hitmakers also popped up on Saturday night’s broadcast, which was hosted by “Tron Legacy” star Jeff Bridges. Akon helped Lonely Planet bust out an ode to gettin’ it on, belting “I just had sex!” Blake Lively and Jessica Alba made cameos as comely conquests as the crew gamely sang, “I’ll never go back to the not-having-sex ways of the past.” On “The Miley Cyrus Show” skit, featured player Vanessa Bayer played a giggly, hyper version of the teen starlet, and poked fun at the “Can’t Be Tamed” singer’s much-publicized salvia bong hit . Bayer’s Cyrus explained her “five-minute drug problem,” saying, “so, what happened was, I got really high — like really high.” Veteran actor Bridges also showed off his acting chops in several skits, playing an effeminate cowboy who doles out gussied-up Christmas presents, and starring in his own prank show “Jeff’d,” in which he messes with celebrity pals like Billy Bob Thornton and Maggie Gyllenhaal. ‘Glee’ Get Wistful With Wham!’s ‘Last Christmas’

Rachel and Finn turn to the 1984 classic for a melancholy moment. By Aly Semigran Cory Monteith and Lea Michele in “Glee” Photo: FOX For all the Christmas songs out about mistletoe and merriment, there seems to be just as many, if not more, about loneliness and loss (’tis the season!). While this week’s Christmas-themed episode of “Glee” was heavy on the warm, fuzzy aspects of the holiday, things were anything but for newly split couple Rachel (Lea Michele) and Finn (Cory Monteith). And in the midst of a tree-shopping excursion, the crestfallen duo (with some backup help from their fellow “Glee”-mates) sang Wham!’s 1984 classic “Last Christmas.” Michele and Monteith are hardly the first to cover the wistful pop song, but no artists could have ever put their own touch on it without its originators, George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley. The English duo released “Last Christmas” as an A-side with “Everything She Wants” on Epic Records in December 1984. It would eventually appear on the pair’s third and final album, Music From the Edge of Heaven. George Michael may have been mending a broken heart with this song, but the release of “Last Christmas” (which he wrote) marked a banner year for the musician. Earlier in the year, Wham! released two other Billboard chart-toppers, “Careless Whisper” and “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.” The song, which was released not soon after the Band Aid fundraiser smash “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” (which also features Michael), has the dubious distinction of being one of the biggest songs in U.K. chart history that never actually reached #1. But it has proved to have staying power and currently ranks at #14 on the Billboard Holiday Songs list. “Last Christmas” has since shown up on several Christmas compilations (including All Time Greatest Christmas Songs and Now That’s What I Call Christmas!: The Signature Collection ) and is a radio go-to throughout the holiday season. So, it’s no surprise that other artists have jumped on the opportunity to cry, “Last Christmas, I gave you my heart/ But the very next day, you gave it away/ This year, to save me from tears/ I’ll give it to someone special.” Taylor Swift, Jimmy Eat World, Ashley Tisdale, Carrie Underwood, Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay, Hilary Duff, Manic Street Preachers, Cascada, Whigfield, Billie Piper, Travis and Crazy Frog are just a select few of the notable names of those who left a note saying “I love you” and meant it. Now, the “Glee” cast is part of the ever-growing list, and as expected, it’s already spun some gold. The show’s Christmas album , which also features covers of other classics such as “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” “Jingle Bells” and “O Holy Night,” which is #10 on this week’s Billboard 200 and climbing to #4 on next week’s. Which was your favorite holiday song on this week’s “Glee”? Talk about it in the comments. Related Artists Wham!

Kurtis Blow Busted For Marijuana At Airport

Rap pioneer was caught with the drug after a pat-down at Los Angeles International Airport. By Mawuse Ziegbe Kurtis Blow Photo: Bill Pugliano/ Getty Images Legendary MC Kurtis Blow just caught a tough break: The rapper was busted with marijuana at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday (December 2). The rap pioneer was caught with a small amount of weed as he went through a security screening around 5:45 a.m., according to E! News . After a body scan uncovered “an anomaly” in his clothing, the MC was subjected to a pat-down, which revealed a bag of pot. The Harlem spitter, who was born Kurtis Walker, had less than an ounce of the drug, so he was slapped with a misdemeanor citation and the weed was confiscated. Since kicking off his career in the ’70s, Blow has been lauded as a hip-hop pioneer, with a slew of firsts under his belt. He is credited with becoming the first rapper to release a major-label album, and his signature 1980 single, “The Breaks,” became the first hip-hop song to be certified gold. He is also credited as the first to head out on a national and international hip-hop tour while the culture was still in its infancy as a mainstream force. While hip-hop artists hawk everything from sneakers to beer these days, Blow was the first rapper to sign an endorsement deal. Aside from helping to push hip-hop from a local New York City movement to a global phenomenon, Blow’s legacy as a rap game-changer endures. Contemporary hip-hop stars still turn to his catalog for inspiration. Case in point: His track “If I Rule the World” was covered by Queens MC Nas. With his music career behind him, Blow has since turned to religion, helming services at his Hip Hop Church in Harlem.
