Katy Perry To ‘Engage All Your Senses’ On Tour Next Year

She also reveals she’s in no rush to drop another song since she’s ‘too happy’ about current single ‘Teenage Dream.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by James Montgomery Katy Perry Photo: Steve Granitz/WireImage Katy Perry is still riding high off the successes of her first two Teenage Dream singles: the VMA-nominated “California Gurls” and “Teenage Dream.” Now fans are hankering to know what she might release next from the album, but Perry is keeping that detail under wraps. “The third single I can’t reveal yet, because I’m too happy about ‘Teenage Dream,’ ” she told MTV News on the VMA white carpet. “And I love secrets.” But she did leave fans with a hint, describing the video for the next single as “touching.” With an emotional track lined up, Perry also has some plans to tour sometime next year. “I hope that it’s going to engage all of your senses: sight, sound, smell, taste, touch,” she explained, adding that she had a warning for anyone who has been trying to take a bite out of her scented cotton-candy album cover. “It smells good, but you can’t eat the album. I’ve had people eating the album, and I can’t take responsibility for that.” Perry also revealed how excited she’s been with the response to the album and its singles. “There’s not many more places to go than #1,” she said. “There’s number zero, but that could be a Catch-22.” Perry seemed most excited for her next big goal, which she intended to address right after the VMAs: “[I need] some sleep, because I’m really sick,” she said. “Nursing that cold!” What single do you want Katy to release next? Lady Gaga’s Statement-Making Speeches: A Timeline

Eight-time VMA winner Gaga cries, shouts and stands up for causes whenever she hits the stage. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lady Gaga accepts the Video of the Year award during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Lady Gaga’s eight wins at the 2010 Video Music Awards not only broke yet another record for the budding icon but delivered more of the signature Gaga sound bites the singer is known for unleashing. When she nabbed the first two Moonmen of the night on Sunday, she brought the American military’s controversial “Don’t ask, Don’t tell” policy into the limelight. Gaga gave a shout-out to “all the gays for remixing this video over and over,” when “Bad Romance” snagged Best Female Video . And when she was handed the coveted Video of the Year for the song, she revealed the title of her hotly anticipated third effort, Born This Way, and even belted out a lyric.

VMA Firsts: Gaga’s Wins, Chelsea’s Hot Tub Pregnancy And More

The meat-suit-wearing Gaga became biggest single-night female winner in VMA history. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga at the 2010 VMAs Photo: Mark Ralston/ Getty Images We here at MTV News like to think that history is made every time we put on a Video Music Awards ceremony. Over the course of nearly three decades, we’ve provided you with some of the most indelible images in pop music history, from the Britney-Madonna kiss to last year’s Kanye/Taylor Swift moment and dozens of others in between. Sunday night’s show was no exception, with another flood of VMA firsts provided by eight-time winner Lady Gaga , West and, of course, randy host Chelsea Handler. Here are some of our favorite VMA firsts from the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. Meat suit : Artists have worn anything and everything you can imagine to the VMAs over the years, but nobody has ever worn a dress made out of what looked like some choice cuts of meat, accented by a meat hat, flesh purse and steak boots. Gaga raised the ire of PETA when she first modeled the suit on the cover of Vogue Hommes Japan, and likely did it again when she slipped into the outfit to accept her night-capping Video of the Year win for “Bad Romance.” The singer subsequently visited the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” to explain the meaning behind her carcass couture. Hot tub : We’ve had a lot of odd things on the stage over the years, from Britney’s snake to giant puppet theaters, but never, it turns out, a hot tub. Leave it to the cast of “Jersey Shore” to bring their signature hang-out spot of choice to the festivities. Setting up onstage, the cast invited VMA host Chelsea Handler to join them in the tub, which she reluctantly did. Pregnancy : Though last year’s VMAs were the first we can recall that resulted in an engagement (between host Russell Brand and Katy Perry ), Sunday night’s show had the distinction of being the first where a host was impregnated during the broadcast. OK, technically, it was a gag and you can’t get pregnant just floating in the “Jersey Shore” Jacuzzi, but still. D-bag : Kanye West was on his best behavior this year, but that doesn’t mean the Louis Vuitton Don minded all his p’s and q’s. Closing the show with the starkly funktastic debut of “Runaway,” Kanye broke new ground by becoming the first artist to debut a new song featuring a chorus employing the go-to insult of the moment: douche bag. Hats off, Kanye! Meet cute : The VMAs have played host to some unique pairings over the years (Sting and Diddy, anyone?), but it has never featured a first-time onstage pairing by a couple of artists who’ve already scored a radio smash without ever meeting. That was the case Sunday when B.o.B took the stage with Paramore’s Hayley Williams for a run through his “Airplanes” just a day after finally meeting for the first time face-to-face. Octo-win Lady Gaga became the most decorated female VMA winner in the history of a single VMAs show on Sunday night when she took home eight Moonmen. While she still has a way to go to match the all-time VMA champ, Madonna, who has 20 total wins, in just her second year of VMA eligibility, Gaga quickly jumped into a tie for fourth place with Green Day for all-time wins at 11. She also set a record for the second most wins in a single VMAs broadcast, nearly usurping Peter Gabriel’s seemingly untouchable mark of 10 in 1987 for his groundbreaking “Sledgehammer” video. Bike lane : Performers have arrived at the VMAs on yachts, fire trucks, semis and in any number of tricked-out vehicles, but 30 Seconds to Mars set a new eco-standard on Sunday when they rolled up to the pre-show on their custom bicycles, paying homage to the theme of their VMA-winning “Kings and Queens” video. He said, she said : An unprecedented incident calls for an unprecedented response. That might explain why both Kanye West and Taylor Swift seemed to make pointed comments on last year’s run-in with the new songs they debuted during the show. While Swift took a conciliatory route with her as-yet-untitled song, in which it appeared she forgave Yeezy for his indiscretions, West appeared to flagellate himself for his rash actions (see “D-bag” entry above). The Moonmen have all been handed out and the stars have gone home, but there’s plenty of 2010 MTV Video Music Awards news, interviews, behind-the-scenes scoop, party reports and more still to come, so keep it locked on MTVNews.com. Nicki Minaj Says Pink Friday Is Her ‘Heart And Soul’

The Barbie promises debut LP will deliver so ‘every woman in this world can understand it,’ in Paper magazine. By James Dinh Nicki Minaj in “Paper” magazine Photo: Paper magazine Having collaborated with everyone from Trey Songz to Jay-Z, Young Money darling Nicki Minaj has already made a name for herself, even before dropping an album. Minaj recognizes how fortunate her journey to stardom has been, and in the September issue of Paper magazine, she opens up about her success and what her upcoming debut, Pink Friday, will represent. “This album is my heart and soul,” the rapper told the magazine. “This is me explaining every single relationship that I’ve ever been in and explaining it in a way that every woman in this world can understand it.” The LP, set for a November 23 release, will likely be saturated with Minaj’s colorful rap flow, which she explained that she learned during school. “The line was, ‘Tis monstrous’ — period. And the second line was, ‘Iago, who done it’ — question mark. Then we read it without punctuation. ‘Tis monstrous Iago who done it,” which basically gives the story away,” she recalled of an assignment reading Shakespeare’s “Othello.” “The fact that punctuation can change what you’re saying, I guess that’s why I love hip-hop — being able to say the same thing but it meaning a different thing.” But the Harajuku Barbie admitted that not everyone was always a fan of her signature rap style. “My first manager told me, ‘Stop playing around with your words, stop being funny, nobody’s going to take you seriously. You shouldn’t sound smart.’ I don’t know. I just started saying things,” Minaj said. Her unique style has of course helped fuel her rise, making her hip hop’s leading lady. And Minaj’s MTV VMA nomination for Best New Artist only highlights that fact. (She’ll go head-to-head with artists like Ke$ha and Justin Bieber in the category.) “Three years ago all my underground hip-hop heads thought I was crazy when I said this would happen but … it will happen,” she predicted. “I’m going to be in Tokyo, Paris — I’m going to go everywhere you can imagine. I’m going to own London, I mean, the sky’s the limit, and you watch what I say, I refuse to lose. I don’t know how to lose.” What do you think of Nicki’s success so far? Let us know in the comments! Lady Gaga, Chris Martin Help Apple Announce New Products

Coldplay frontman played unreleased song, ‘Wedding Bells,’ while Gaga, via video, introduced Ping social network site. By Gil Kaufman Coldplay’s Chris Martin Photo: Justin Sullivan/ Getty Images For Apple geeks, the sight of company CEO Steve Jobs is akin to a rock star encounter, because they know that whenever he takes the stage in his signature black turtleneck for the company’s annual new-product-announcement event, they’re going to be blown away. But on Wednesday in San Francisco, Jobs brought along some actual star firepower in the form of Coldplay singer Chris Martin and Lady Gaga to announce the new line of iPods and a musical social networking site called Ping. Jobs rolled out the iPods first, showing off the revamped iPod Shuffle, which brings back finger controls, and the tiny Nano, which ditches buttons for a touch screen. Then, according to reports, Martin came out and played the new tune “Wedding Bells,” which he said might never come out. “This is the beginning of a story kind of thing that starts sadly,” he explained, telling the audience it might be the only time they ever hear the composition. “Those wedding bells ringing up upon that hill/ And I don’t want to swallow such a bitter pill/ You keep on movin’, while I stay still/ But I always loved you and I always will,” Martin sang intensely while gently playing piano. Martin also played such well known Coldplay hits as “Viva La Vida” and “Yellow” before Jobs brought out another big gun, Lady Gaga, to introduce Apple’s latest innovation. With 160 million potential users from day one, the company’s music-focused social network, Ping, will be included in the upcoming iTunes 10 update. Jobs brought up a Lady Gaga page to demonstrate the service, described as “Facebook and Twitter meets iTunes.” Users can follow their favorite artists and friends, see what they’re listening to and downloading, post opinions and thoughts on music and browse concert listings on the new service. Gaga appeared via pre-taped video from the studio to hype the new product. But the biggest buzz about her drop-in after the event centered on reports that Apple had allegedly scrubbed some of her tweets celebrating the recent overturning of anti gay-marriage legislation Proposition 8 in California in a promo screenshot of a Gaga Ping page, according to Gawker. Cee-Lo Drops Official "F— You" Video

New retro clip replaces previous placeholder video. By Gil Kaufman Cee Lo in his “F— You” video Photo: Arista You were surely charmed by the low-tech, bold-font viral video that helped launched Cee-Lo’s f-bomb-dropping smash single, “F— You.” But after demand for the undeniably catchy throwback kiss-off song spiked over the past week, Cee-Lo quickly got on the stick and recorded an official video for the tune (warning: strong language). It kicks off with a graffiti-style rendering of the title over a neon sign, topped with a woman in a polka-dot dress raining bills down from a stack of cash. In keeping with the Motown vibe of the song, the video’s setting is of an old-school diner, with a trio of arm-waving, shimmying backup singers in shiny green dresses kicking off the action. Then a youngster identified as “Young Cee-Lo Green” marches into the greasy spoon with his parents, pumping his arm, and calls out the signature four-letter chorus slam. The camera pans to a trio of fellow tweens in a booth snaking along to the music, with one adorable girl identified as “the Heartbreaker.” The real Cee-Lo, wearing a black suit with a white and black checkered tie and shades pops up to sing a bit. Waving around a toy garbage truck, the young lothario tries to impress his target, but she clearly has the “Ferrari” of the lyrics in mind over his junk hauler. With the diner cleared out that night, Cee-Lo is revealed to be wearing a snazzy black suit with a long coat as the backup singers take their place on the counter in elegant white gowns with matching feather boas. Young Cee soon finds out what he’s up against when he approaches the table and sees that his rival is dressed in a sharp suit and has, yes, a toy Ferrari that puts Cee’s garbage rig to shame. The backup singers then pop up behind the Heartbreaker to snap about how she’s a grade-school gold digger. The scenario flashes forward to the “High School Years,” and our luckless lover is now a dishwasher at the diner, still crooning the song’s lyrics and dancing over to the object of his affection with some flowers. But a bespectacled kid in a Mohawk thwarts him by dropping a basket of greasy fries on which CL slips, landing his floral gift in the lap of a nerdy, unintended female target. By the time he’s in college, the lothario, Cee-Lo dressed in red specs and a checkered jacket, is still trying to work his girl by huddling with his now foxy nerd girl and working on his musical charms (which include a keyboard and a music theory book). But the Heartbreaker seems unimpressed when he sends over a plate with a hot dog and a heart-shaped arrangement of ketchup. She makes her feelings clear by smashing a basket of greasy fries on his shirt as the scene explodes into a montage reminiscent of the opening to the classic ’70s sitcom “Good Times.” Cee-Lo gets his revenge in the end, though, when he turns into “the Ladykiller,” rolling up in his vintage ride as everyone dances to his music while his grade-school love is stuck sweeping up at the diner. Ain’t that a … well, you know. What do you think of Cee-Lo’s official “F— You” video? Let us know in comments below. Related Artists Cee-Lo

Justin Bieber Vs. Jonas Brothers Hair-Off: ‘Camp Rock 2’ Stars Vote

‘Well, there are three Jonas Brothers versus one Bieber …,’ co-star Chloe Bridges reasons. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Robyn Beck/ Getty Images Demi Lovato told us recently that the littlest Jonas brother, Frankie, has swag like Justin Bieber . And as it turns out, the elder Jonas Brothers, namely Joe, Kevin and Nick, and Justin Bieber are all known for something they have in common, and we’re not talking about their bustling careers. We’re referring to their incredibly famous and all-important heads of hair. While Bieber is known for his signature swoop, the brothers Jonas are recognized for their curly mops. This fascinating paralell raised a question: Who has better hair, the Jonas Brothers or Justin Bieber? Their “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam” co-stars weighed in on this battle for the ages. “I’m friends with the Jonas Brothers [and] I do have to see them later on, but I know that Bieber has this whole thingy, the swoop thingy,” Jasmine Richards pondered. “I’m gonna have to say Jonas Brothers only ’cause their hair’s great. … But Bieber … can I be in the middle?” Nick Jonas’ “Camp Rock 2” love interest, Chloe Bridges, compared the decision-making process on this issue to choosing a favorite summer sweet. “Well, there are three Jonas Brothers versus one Bieber. So I don’t know,” she explained. “They might win, however, they both have good hair. It’s hard to say. It’s like vanilla versus chocolate — do you like the straight or the wavy? It’s like ice cream flavors.” Anna Maria Perez de Tagle seemed to have the decision locked: “Oh, the Jonases, for sure! I mean, they all have different hairstyles, which is awesome,” she said. “Justin Bieber has the one hairstyle. For sure, the brothers!” Who do you think has better hair, Justin Bieber or the Jonas Brothers? Tell us in the comments! Related Photos JoBros, Demi Lovato, More At ‘Camp Rock 2’ Premiere

Tim Burton Reuniting With ‘Ed Wood’ Writers For ‘Addams Family’

Team is also developing ‘Big Eyes,’ based on artist Margaret Keane and her portraits of big-eyed children. By Adam Rosenberg Tim Burton Photo: Tony Barson/ WireImage One of filmmaker Tim Burton’s strongest efforts of the past 30 years is, ironically, “Ed Wood,” a biopic charting the life of the famed director of 1959’s “Plan 9 From Outer Space,” a work widely regarded as the worst film of all time. It’s great then to see that Burton is reuniting with the writing team behind the 1994 release. Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski will join Burton in developing a script for the planned stop-motion adaptation of Charles Addams’ famed comic strip, “The Addams Family,” Deadline reports . Burton will also produce with Chris Meledandri for Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures. The same article reveals that Burton will also produce the writing duo’s fact-based drama “Big Eyes,” which is “based on artist Margaret Keane’s struggle to get credit for the line of paintings of big-eyed children that became wildly popular in the ’60s.” Alexander and Karaszewski wrote the script with the intent of directing themselves. The “Addams Family” news comes several months after reports surfaced that Burton would direct a 3-D stop-motion adaptation of the famed comic strip. In a statement made to MTV News at the time, Burton’s reps stated, “There is no truth to the story. Tim has not lined up any of his upcoming projects.” It was clear even then that Burton could settle on “Addams Family” next. He still could direct, too. Deadline reports that he will “direct a film that is one of the plum projects on Meledandri’s slate for Illumination,” which of course now includes “Addams Family.” “Big Eyes” came up while Burton was in discussions with Alexander and Karaszewski about the comic strip adaptation. “It turns out he’s a big fan of Margaret and has commissioned artwork from her,” Alexander told Deadline. It doesn’t hurt that the actual story is a remarkable truth-is-stranger-than-fiction tale. Walter Keane, Margaret’s husband, became a celebrity in the 1950s, riding a wave of success from his mass-produced prints of big-eyed children. Though the images bore his signature, Margaret was the one with an aptitude for making art. When the two eventually divorced and Margaret tried to make it known that she was the artist, Walter sued. The case that followed culminated in a dramatic showdown in which the judge ordered that two easels be set up in the courtroom, staging what essentially amounted to a paint-off. No release window is listed for either project, though IMDb’s listing for “Big Eyes” is labeled 2011. With the script already written, a budget that is reportedly “in the teens” and Burton producing, it is certainly possible that the Keane pic will be ready for next year.
